11. Effect of temperature on resonant electron transport through stochastic conduction channels in superlattices

Abstract

We show that resonant electron transport in semiconductor superlattices with an applied electric and tilted magnetic field can, surprisingly, become more pronounced as the lattice and conduction electron temperature increases from 4.2 K to room temperature and beyond. It has previously been demonstrated that at certain critical field parameters, the semiclassical trajectories of electrons in the lowest miniband of the superlattice change abruptly from fully localised to completely unbounded. The unbounded electron orbits propagate through intricate web patterns, known as stochastic webs, in phase space, which act as conduction channels for the electrons and produce a series of resonant peaks in the electron drift velocity versus electric field curves. Here, we show that increasing the lattice temperature strengthens these resonant peaks due to a subtle interplay between thermal population of the conduction channels and transport along them. This enhances both the electron drift velocity and the influence of the stochastic webs on the current-voltage characteristics, which we calculate by making self-consistent solutions of the coupled electron transport and Poisson equations throughout the superlattice. These solutions reveal that increasing the temperature also transforms the collective electron dynamics by changing both the threshold voltage required for the onset of self-sustained current oscillations, produced by propagating charge domains, and the oscillation frequency., Comment: 8 figures, 12 pages

Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study of the characteristics of phase synchronization between electrocardiography(ECG) and electroencephalography (EEG) signals during night sleep. Polysomnographic recordings of eight generally healthy subjects and eight patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome were selected as experimental data. A feature of this study was the introduction of an instantaneous phase for EEG and ECG signals using a continuous wavelet transform at the heart rate frequency using the concept of time scale synchronization, which eliminated the emergence of asynchronous areas of behavior associated with the "leaving" of the fundamental frequency of the cardiovascular system. Instantaneous phase differences were examined for various pairs of EEG and ECG signals during night sleep, and it was shown that in all cases the phase difference exhibited intermittency. Laminar areas of behavior are intervals of phase synchronization, i.e., phase capture. Turbulent intervals are phase jumps of 2 π. Statistical studies of the observed intermittent behavior were carried out, namely, distributions of the duration of laminar sections of behavior were estimated. For all pairs of channels, the duration of laminar phases obeyed an exponential law. Based on the analysis of the movement of the phase trajectory on a rotating plane at the moment of detection of the turbulent phase, it was established that in this case the eyelet intermittency was observed. There was no connection between the statistical characteristics of laminar phase distributions for intermittent behavior and the characteristics of night breathing disorders (apnea syndrome). It was found that changes in statistical characteristics in the phase synchronization of EEG and ECG signals were correlated with blood pressure at the time of signal recording in the subjects, which is an interesting effect that requires further research. Abstract

Two types of phase synchronization (accordingly, two scenarios of breaking phase synchronization) between coupled stochastic oscillators are shown to exist depending on the discrepancy between the control parameters of interacting oscillators, as in the case of classical synchronization of periodic oscillators. If interacting stochastic oscillators are weakly detuned, the phase coherency of the attractors persists when phase synchronization breaks. Conversely, if the control parameters differ considerably, the chaotic attractor becomes phase-incoherent under the conditions of phase synchronization break., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

A universal mechanism underlying generalized synchronization conditions in unidirectionally coupled stochastic oscillators is considered. The consideration is carried out in the framework of a modified system with additional dissipation. The approach developed is illustrated with model examples. Abstract

Сучасні соціокультурні умови суттєво впливають на зміни та перетворення в системі освіти України. Ціннісний вимір освіти констатує зниження всіх показників, що впливають на кількісну та якісну сторони освіти. Метою статті є аналіз педагогічних (організаційно-виховних, методичних і дидактичних) проблем української освіти. Методологія дослідження ґрунтується на загальнонауковому, науково-педагогічному та філософському методах визначення показників якості вищої освіти. Тому сучасні виклики системи вищої освіти України вимагають акумулювання зусиль усіх учасників освітнього процесу (викладачів, студентів, адміністраторів) для подолання негативних впливів на якість освіти. Modern socio-cultural conditions significantly affect changes and transformations in the education system of Ukraine. The value dimension of education states a decrease in all indicators affecting the quantitative and qualitative aspects of education. The purpose of the article is the analysis of pedagogical (organizational and educational, methodical and didactic) problems of Ukrainian education. The research methodology is based on general scientific, scientific-pedagogical and philosophical methods of determining quality indicators of higher education. Therefore, the modern challenges of the higher education system of Ukraine require the accumulation of efforts of all participants in the educational process (teachers, students, administrators) to overcome the negative effects on the quality of education.
