Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of personal information management (PIM) of graduate students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahwaz from three aspects of knowledge, attitude and seven activities of personal information management (including retrieval, storage, organization, maintenance, information flow management, measuring and evaluation, and sense making) based on Jones's model. Research has been a survey of descriptive-analytic type. Methodology: This study was a descriptive-analytic survey and Amuzandeh’s modified questionnaire (2011) was used for data gathering. The research population consisted of 4422 graduate students of Shahid Chamran Univerity of Ahvaz that 354 of them were selected based on Krejcie-Morgan sample size table. Of the 354 distributed questionnaires 304 were filled and returned (85.87% response rate). For data analysis, descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) as well as inferential statistics (t-test and variance analysis) were used to determine the significance of differences. Results: The descriptive findings of the research showed that the means of knowledge, attitude and total of seven PIM activities of students were 3.20, 3.97 and 2.86 respectively, and the total mean of their PIM activities was 3.2 and at moderate level. . In this research, the effect of four variables of gender, age, faculty and educational level on the students’ PIM activities was examined and it was found that there was a significant difference between the students’ PIM activities among the different faculties with the significance level of 0.04 while there were no difference regarding gender, educational level, and age group.

Purpose: we aimed at the identification of the current social status of Knowledge and Information Science discipline from librarians’ viewpoint in Ahvaz city of Iran. We then analyzed that which of the main factors has the principal effect on the status. Methodology: This research is an applied survey in which the data were collected by a researcher-made questionnaire. Validity of the questionnaire has confirmed by related KIS professionals and reliability of it have been appraised by confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha with coefficient 0/95. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics (Binominal, Mann-Whitney, and Kruscal-Wallis tests). Findings: Findings showed that 6 factors have effective role in the social status of Knowledge and Information Science (KIS): 1- personal characteristics of professionals; 2- specialism; 3- occupational economy; 4- professional standards; 5- skill learning practice and 6- social need to the profession. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that two of them have meaningful effect: specialism and social need to the profession. Also, there were significant differences among viewpoints in terms of respondent’s educational degree, professional background, type of the library, and occupational position. However, viewpoints have not been significantly different in terms of type of employment and field of activity. Originality/Value: It seems the research to be worthwhile because of its endeavor to show main factors engaging in social status of KIS discipline. Also, we suggested that there is an urgent need to be care of two important factors: specialism and social need to the discipline.

Purpose: This paper aims to evaluate the security of web-based information systems of Iran Public Libraries Foundation (IPLF). Methodology: Survey method was used as a method for implementation. The tool for data collection was a questionnaire, based on the standard ISO/IEC 27002, that has the eleven indicators and 79 sub-criteria, which examines security of web-based information systems of IPLF. Four web-based systems of IPLF evaluated. Evaluation criteria includes: Security Policy; Organization of information security; Asset management; human resources security; physical and environmental security; communications and operations management; access control; Information systems acquisition, development and maintenance; Information security incident management; business continuity management, and compliance. Findings: Results show that security level of "Reading grid system" and "my book system" with an average of 0/68 was high. Security level of “Payam Mashregh system” and “Farzin statistical system” with an average of 0/60 and 0/53 was middle. Indicators such as "business continuity management", “prepare, develop and maintain information systems' strongest points”, “information security policy” and “information security organization” are among the most vulnerable areas of information security systems of IPLF And there were significant differences between viewpoints of experts about indicators of Information Security systems of IPLF. Originality/value: We designed a systematic approach for the immunization of data exchange environment by evaluating web-based systems of IPLF by some criteria derived from accepted information security management standards. This article identified the strengths and vulnerabilities of the mentioned systems.

Information and knowledge management has emerged as major tools for collecting and regulating available data to spread over an entire organ.The present study is to identify the links and boundaries between the two management systems. Co-word analysis method is obtained as research method since along with other scientometric techniques is a parameter for content analysis. Articles accepted for domestic journals and conferences constitute the population of this study. The current research findings indicate that there are 230 and 123 keywords in the field of knowledge management and information management, respectively; among which only 8 words are of shared use. In other words, the lexical boundary is 8.52%. More specifically, the boundary is made up of the concept of recorded knowledge. The results also showed that knowledge management provides the ground for all management areas to some extent; on the other hand, information management prepares the situation for studying on areas such as medical records or science. We found that information science can be considered as a shared boundary between the two studied areas. Extracting documented keywords for these two management areas is still another finding of this study.

Purpose: The present paper tries to study and evaluate the status of Khuzestan public libraries in relation to the existence of a special section for blind and semi-blind users, and the compatibility of the existing situation with standards for resources, facilities, and labor force. It also aims to examine the expectations of staff. Methodology: The present study is a descriptive survey. The research population consists of three libraries: Saamen al Aemmeh, (Abadan), Shaheed Sharif (Khorramshahr), and Central Library (Ahwaz). Data have been gathered via observations by researchers, via interviews with authorities in Behzisti office in Khuzestan province, and through the employment of a collection of relevant standards. The standards being employed are: The National Standards of Library Services for the Blind (Taavoni, 1379), and the Regulation on How to Develop the Blind users’ Section of Public Libraries (General Office of Public Library Services, Iran Public Libraries Foundation, 1389). The first standard introduces the services required for blind and semi-blind users in libraries, and the second standard is a guideline to develop and expand a special section for these people in public libraries, with an emphasis on Iran Public Libraries Foundation’s policy. Findings: Results demonstrate that environment currently available in the special section for the blind and semi-blind in the libraries studied is not suitable, and that these libraries are incompatible with some of the standards. Originality/value: To the best of our knowledge, no research work has been carried out to compare the special section for the blind and semi-blind users in Khuzestan public libraries with regard to standards and guidelines.

Topic maps are an ISO standard (ISO 13250) that is used for presenting the information about information resources structures. The initial idea of this standard was raised in 1991 and due to its strength; it turned into an ISO standard. This paper investigates concepts and model of topic maps and aims to mention applications of this standard in library and information science (LIS) realm. A topic map, as a type of document is defined as XML or SGML technically. Research show that this standard is compatible with some of LIS techniques and rules especially in knowledge organization, but it attempts to use these rules in the web. So it can be said that according to some challenges that LIS field faces in adapting traditional techniques for knowledge organization in the Web, topic maps standard can help in solving such problems and challenges and this is what some experts of LIS tried to do.

The present study endeavored to analysis the scientific publications that were indexed in the Web of Science database as the information management records and the visualization of science structure in this field during 1988-2009. The research method was scientometrics. During the study period, 1120 records in the field of information management have been published. These records were extracted in the form of plain text files and stored in a PC. Then they were analyzed by ISI.exe and HistCite softwares. Author's coefficient collaboration (CC) was grown from zero in 1988 to 0.33 in 2009. Average coefficient collaboration between the authors was 0.22 which confirmed low authors collaboration in this area. The records have been published in 63 languages. Among these records the English language with 93.8 % possessed the highest proportion. City University London and the University of Sheffield in England had the most common publications in information management field. Based on the number of published records, T.D. Wilson with 13 records and 13 citations ranked as the first. The average number of global citations to 112 documents has been equal to 8.78. Despite the participation of different countries in the production of documents, more than 28.9% of records have been produced in the United States. According to results, 10 countries have published more than 72.4 percent of the records. City University London and the University of Sheffield have had highest frequency in this area. 15 journals have published 564 records (50.4%) of the total productions. Finally, by implementation of scientific software HistCite map drawing clustered and authors, articles and four effective specific subjects were introduced..

Purpose: This research has been carried out with the aim of comparatively studying Iranmark format and Unimark handbook for serials and making some suggestions for resolving the existing deficiencies in worksheet of national document organization and national library of Iran, in Rasa software. Methodology: This research has used library study. Samples to be studied included fields, markers, and the subsidiary fields of Unimark and Iranmark, whose classification and types were extracted from Unimark handbook. Also, 14 specific fields for serials were extracted from Unimark 2000 handbook as well as the updates 4 and 5 in this handbook, and translated. Afterward, the suggested format was prepared considering the specific fields identified by the researcher, mandatory fields of Unimark for all library resources, and general fields, in concordance with Rasa worksheet to assure that the desired fields have been applied to organization’s worksheet. This worksheet consisted of 102 fields. Findings: The study findings revealed that the five fields including fields 400 (series), 411(subsidiary series), 225 (series), 104 (paper identifier), and 073 (international paper code) in Unimark handbook do not exist in serials worksheet of national document organization and national library of Iran, and should be added to it. Additionally, findings showed that several fields have been changed in title, definition, application, and subsidiary fields, while there are several other fields with wrong translation which must be corrected. Finally, a worksheet is suggested whose 102 fields consist of 14 serials specific fields, 5 mandatory Unimark fields, and 83 general fields. Originality/Value: Journals are among the most important information resources essential for researchers and visitors of libraries and information centers, and librarians make effort for their selection and preparation, and providing appropriate services by them. Information value of journals is due to the point that typically the latest news and results of scientific studies are reflected in these resources. Hence, it is necessary to properly organize such resources in a coordinated way and pay sufficient attention to their distribution and accessibility similar to printed monographs.

The present research studies the level of information literacy among librarians of public libraries in Khuzestan province with the purpose of identifying their potential strengths and weaknesses. The statistical population in this study includes all librarians of public libraries in Khuzestan province. The findings indicate that the mentioned librarians are at desirable level in following skills: correct understanding of their information needs; the ability of combining new information with previous knowledge and generating new knowledge; evaluating the result of search process with regard to satisfying their information needs; and level of commitment to copyright and to legal and social limitations for making use of information. Additionally, the librarians under study are at undesirable level in following skills: information search strategies in electronic format; taking advantage of online and offline information databases; making use of facilities and characteristics of search engines, discussion groups, and news groups in internet; referencing printed and electronic resources; design and selection of the most appropriate and effective method for access to information; and determining the level of consulting with other librarians and subject specialists in information retrieval.
