Six-minute walk test ,Doppler echocardiography ,LV function and dyssynchrony ,Diseases of the circulatory (Cardiovascular) system ,RC666-701 - Abstract
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to prospectively examine echocardiographic parameters that correlate and predict functional capacity assessed by 6 min walk test (6-MWT) in patients with heart failure (HF), irrespective of ejection fraction (EF). Methods In 147 HF patients (mean age 61 ± 11 years, 50.3% male), a 6-MWT and an echo-Doppler study were performed in the same day. Global LV dyssynchrony was indirectly assessed by total isovolumic time - t-IVT [in s/min; calculated as: 60 – (total ejection time + total filling time)], and Tei index (t-IVT/ejection time). Patients were divided into two groups based on the 6-MWT distance (Group I: ≤300 m and Group II: >300 m), and also in two groups according to EF (Group A: LVEF ≥ 45% and Group B: LVEF Results In the cohort of patients as a whole, the 6-MWT correlated with t-IVT (r = −0.49, p Conclusion In patients with HF, the limited exercise capacity, assessed by 6-MWT, is related mostly to severity of global LV dyssynchrony, more than EF or raised filling pressures. The lack of exercise predictors in HFpEF reflects its multifactorial pathophysiology.

- Abstract
Background: Thoracocentesis of pleural effusion is a simple technique for pleural fluid examination through cytology. In addition to cytological examination to assess the nature of pleural fluid content, we can also perform more detailed examinations through cytoblocks of residual fluid. These paraffin-embedded cytoblock samples are important because we can perform examinations as in other bioptic samples. In these samples, immunohistochemical and molecular analyses can be performed., Methods: Two hundred fifty-five cytological samples from patients with pleural effusion were examined. In cases in which the presence of malignant cells was identified in the cytological examination, as well as cases that were suspicious but not definitive for the presence of a malignant effusion, a cytoblock was prepared. Histological examination and immunohistochemical analysis were performed., Results: Among 255 cases with pleural effusion, 152 had the presence of malignant cells and 6 cases were suspicious, but uncertain for the presence of malignant cells, while 86 cases had inflammatory pleural effusion or other pathologies but were not malignant. After histological analysis of the cytoblock and immunohistochemical analysis, we identified 82 malignant tumors of the lung, 8 malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, 15 malignant tumors of the breast, and 6 malignant tumors of the female genital tract, as well as 24 tumors of undetermined origin., Conclusions: Cytoblocks are important for the diagnosis of the primary nature of malignant pleural effusions. The highest importance is primary lung tumors, as well as those tumors in which the primary site of the tumor cannot be determined clinically., (© 2023 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

- Abstract
Health anxiety (HA) refers to excessive worries and anxiety about harbouring serious illness based on misinterpretation of bodily sensations or changes as signs of serious illness. Severe HA is associated with disability and high health care costs. However, the impact of parental HA on excessive concern with their children's health (health anxiety by proxy) is scantly investigated. The aim of this study is to investigate HA by proxy in mothers with severe HA. Fifty mothers with severe HA and two control groups were included, i.e. mothers with rheumatoid arthritis (N=49) and healthy mothers (N=51). All participants completed self-report questionnaires on their own HA and illness perceptions and on illness worries and illness behaviour related to their children. The results showed that mothers with severe HA reported significantly more negative illness perceptions and more HA on behalf of their child (i.e. by proxy) compared to both control groups. HA by proxy may be an overlooked treatment target in mothers with severe HA, and improving our understanding of this condition can have important preventive and clinical implications., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. - Abstract
Background: The sense of empowerment that comes from good health based on an ability to manage daily challenges is something that needs to be developed and supported from childhood into adulthood. This early empowerment may help to maintain a healthy lifestyle of young people, especially in places which have recently suffered severely from high social tension and stress., Methods: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the associations of sense of coherence (SOC), physical activity (PA), and the role of gender and age in young adolescents from Kosovo. A total of 1296 adolescents aged 13-16 years from randomly selected schools in the seven major municipalities of Kosovo participated in the study in 2014. SOC was determined with a short version of a SOC-13 questionnaire with its three components: manageability (SOC-Ma), meaningfulness (SOC-Me), and comprehensibility (SOC-Co). The level of PA was determined with a Physical Activity Screening Measure. The associations were examined by a three-way hierarchical regression., Results: The analyses indicated that young Kosovar boys with strong SOC were characterized by a higher level of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). There was no such effect in girls. Interactional effects were noticed for Kosovar boys for meaningfulness and comprehensibility sub-components of SOC and the level of MVPA. Strong meaningfulness was associated with higher MVPA. For girls, we showed differentiation according to age groups, we noticed that older adolescent girls with strong meaningfulness also had higher MVPA. No significant associations were found in the two other sub-components of SOC., Conclusions: The association between global SOC, gender and age indicated the interactions with the level of MVPA. People with higher SOC are characterized by a higher level of MVPA, but the relation is gender sensitive. This versatility should be taken into account in planning future PA intervention, specifically in societies with high ethnical and religious strains.

- Abstract
Aim: This study aimed to investigate how were the peer and physical education (PE) teacher variables associated with moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) among Kosovar teenagers (13-15 years of age), and the role of age and gender in these associations., Methods: Cross-sectional data was gathered through a study conducted in seven major municipalities of Kosovo. 632 girls (aged 14.3 ± 0.8) and 664 boys (aged 14.2 ± 0.8) were examined using the adjusted Classmate and Teacher Support Scale and the Physical Activity Screening measure. A three-way (support*age*gender) ANOVA was used to compare the individuals' MVPA level with the different levels of support they received, with different age in groups of girls and boys., Results: Boys reported higher levels of MVPA than girls in all age categories. A higher level of MVPA was reported by boys receiving high or medium support from classmates. In case of PE teacher support, high, medium and even low support correlated with high MVPA in all age categories. In girls only 13 year olds reported receiving high levels of both classmate and PE teachers support which correlated with a higher level of MVPA., Conclusions: It appears that engagement in MVPA among young Kosovar adolescents is relatively high in boys, regardless of the level of classmate or PE teacher support, whereas in girls the level of MVPA decreased over their time at school. Support from both classmates and PE teachers turned out to be the most significant factor in 13 years old girls, before they moved from primary to secondary school. This issue requires more detailed insight, considering traditional ethnical and religious barriers to engagement of young female adolescents in physical activity.

- Abstract
The aim of this paper is to examine the role of physical education (PE) teacher and classmate support in relation to sex and BMI status in adolescents' physical activity (PA) in Kosovo. A Classmate and Teacher Support Scale (with additional questions) was used on a cross-sectional sample of 608 girls and 620 boys aged 15-18, randomly selected from secondary schools of seven major municipalities in Kosovo. PA level was determined with a Physical Activity Screening Measure questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and a three-way ANOVA, along with Tukey's HSD post hoc test, were employed. The findings showed the levels of teacher and classmate support to be important factors in stimulating adolescents' PA. It was found that boys with normal weight, high support from teachers, and medium or high support from classmates were more physically active, compared with girls.

- Abstract
Purpose: The current study examined the prevalence and correlates of somatic distress (SD) in the aftermath of war, and the role of a process hypothesized to contribute to posttraumatic stress: experiential avoidance., Methods: Civilian war survivors (n = 163) from Kosovo were assessed in structured interviews, reporting on average more than ten types of traumatic war exposure., Results: One in eight (12.9%) of the participants meet criteria for SD, which was associated with greater psychological distress, experiential avoidance, and lower quality of life after accounting for the effects of war-related variables, demographic variables, as well as posttraumatic stress disorder and major depressive episode. Experiential avoidance partially mediated the association between SD and psychological distress and quality of life., Conclusions: The results indicate that SD is prevalent among war-exposed civilians and that experiential avoidance may be a significant factor in understanding and treating traumatized people who are experiencing SD.
