Abstract

Bayesian networks (BNs) are used for inference and sampling by exploiting conditional independence among random variables. Context specific independence (CSI) is a property of graphical models where additional independence relations arise in the context of particular values of random variables (RVs). Identifying and exploiting CSI properties can simplify inference. Some generative network models (models that generate social/information network samples from a network distribution P(G)), with complex interactions among a set of RVs, can be represented with probabilistic graphical models, in particular with BNs. In the present work we show one such a case. We discuss how a mixed Kronecker Product Graph Model can be represented as a BN, and study its BN properties that can be used for efficient sampling. Specifically, we show that instead of exhibiting CSI properties, the model has deterministic context-specific dependence (DCSD). Exploiting this property focuses the sampling method on a subset of the sampling space that improves efficiency.

Abstract

A key challenge within the social network literature is the problem of network generation - that is, how can we create synthetic networks that match characteristics traditionally found in most real world networks? Important characteristics that are present in social networks include a power law degree distribution, small diameter and large amounts of clustering; however, most current network generators, such as the Chung Lu and Kronecker models, largely ignore the clustering present in a graph and choose to focus on preserving other network statistics, such as the power law distribution. Models such as the exponential random graph model have a transitivity parameter, but are computationally difficult to learn, making scaling to large real world networks intractable. In this work, we propose an extension to the Chung Lu ran- dom graph model, the Transitive Chung Lu (TCL) model, which incorporates the notion of a random transitive edge. That is, with some probability it will choose to connect to a node exactly two hops away, having been introduced to a 'friend of a friend'. In all other cases it will follow the standard Chung Lu model, selecting a 'random surfer' from anywhere in the graph according to the given invariant distribution. We prove TCL's expected degree distribution is equal to the degree distribution of the original graph, while being able to capture the clustering present in the network. The single parameter required by our model can be learned in seconds on graphs with millions of edges, while networks can be generated in time that is linear in the number of edges. We demonstrate the performance TCL on four real- world social networks, including an email dataset with hundreds of thousands of nodes and millions of edges, showing TCL generates graphs that match the degree distribution, clustering coefficients and hop plots of the original networks., Comment: 11 pages

Abstract

Selecting a wind farm layout optimization method is difficult. Comparisons between optimization methods in different papers can be uncertain due to the difficulty of exactly reproducing the objective function. Comparisons by just a few authors in one paper can be uncertain if the authors do not have experience using each algorithm. In this work we provide an algorithm comparison for a wind farm layout optimization case study between eight optimization methods applied, or directed, by researchers who developed those algorithms or who had other experience using them. We provided the objective function to each researcher to avoid ambiguity about relative performance due to a difference in objective function. While these comparisons are not perfect, we try to treat each algorithm more fairly by having researchers with experience using each algorithm apply each algorithm and by having a common objective function provided for analysis. The case study is from the International Energy Association (IEA) Wind Task 37, based on the Borssele III and IV wind farms with 81 turbines. Of particular interest in this case study is the presence of disconnected boundary regions and concave boundary features. The optimization methods studied represent a wide range of approaches, including gradient-free, gradient-based, and hybrid methods; discrete and continuous problem formulations; single-run and multi-start approaches; and mathematical and heuristic algorithms. We provide descriptions and references (where applicable) for each optimization method, as well as lists of pros and cons, to help readers determine an appropriate method for their use case. All the optimization methods perform similarly, with optimized wake loss values between 15.48% and 15.70% as compared to 17.28% for the unoptimized provided layout. Abstract

El crecimiento poblacional generado por el aumento de las actividades económicas y turísticas en los últimos años en el municipio de Acacias, departamento del Meta, ha creado una necesidad de expandir su infraestructura con la ejecución de todo tipo de proyectos de vivienda, estos proyectos buscan suplir la demanda habitacional de los pobladores y a su vez traer desarrollo y progreso para la región. Cabe resaltar también que para generar un impacto positivo en el ámbito constructivo estos proyectos deben ser novedosos e innovadores en cuanto a su proceso constructivo como diseño arquitectónico. Por lo anterior, la constructora Paxco entendiendo la necesidad anteriormente mencionada, decide llevar a cabo el proyecto denominado “Conjunto Altos de Araguaney”, el cual se compone de cinco torres de apartamentos compuestas a su vez de ocho pisos cada una, entendiendo también la necesidad de llevar a cabo un proyecto novedoso e innovador, decide realizar apartamentos de 74 m2 aprovechables en su totalidad comprendidos en tres habitaciones, dos baños, sala, comedor y cocina, además de un amplio balcón para apreciar la maravillosa vista del municipio de Acacias y siendo el primero de los conjuntos en implementar un parqueadero de dos plantas comprendiendo aproximadamente 1000 m2 para la comodidad de sus habitantes. En este documento, se evidencia el proceso constructivo de la estructura de las torres 1 y 2 del proyecto denominado “Conjunto Altos de Araguaney”, donde se mostrará detalladamente el proceso llevado a cabo desde el inicio (cimentación) hasta el final de la estructura (vigas de coronación). The population growth generated by the increase in economic and tourist activities in recent years in the municipality of Acacias, department of Meta, has created a need to expand its infrastructure with the execution of all types of housing projects, these projects seek to supply the housing demand of the inhabitants and in turn bring development and progress to the region. It should also be noted that in order to generate a positive impact in the construction field, these projects must be new and innovative in terms of their construction process and architectural design. Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the transfer of residues of five β-lactam antibiotics (ampicillin, penicillin G, cloxacillin, dicloxacillin and cephalexin) and two tetracyclines (tetracycline and oxytetracycline) in the processing of cheese and whey powder, evaluating the effect of the processes and the final concentration in each product generated. Raw milk was fortified at two concentration levels with the seven antibiotics. The first concentration level (C1) was chosen according to the maximum residue limit (MRL) of each antibiotic (ampicillin and penicillin G: 4 µg kg−1; cloxacillin and dicloxacillin: 30 µg kg−1; cephalexin, tetracycline and oxytetracycline: 100 µg kg−1). The second concentration level (C2) was spiked as follows according to each antibiotic: 0.5 MRL (cloxacillin, dicloxacillin, cephalexin), 0.1 MRL (tetracycline and oxytetracycline) and 3 MRL (ampicillin and penicillin G). The antibiotics were analyzed by LC-MS/MS. No ampicillin or penicillin G residues were found in cheese or whey powder, although they were detected in whey at concentrations similar to those added to raw milk. Cephalexin was mostly distributed in whey between 82% and 96%, being the antibiotic that presented the highest concentration in whey powder (784 ± 98 µg kg−1) when milk was spiked at the MRL. The whey distribution of cloxacillin and dicloxacillin ranged from 57% to 59% for cloxacillin and from 46% to 48% for dicloxacillin, and both concentrated in whey powder. Tetracyclines were the antibiotics that concentrated in cheese, with retentions between 75% and 80% for oxytetracycline and between 83% and 87% for tetracycline. The distribution of antibiotics in the dissimilar stages of the cheese and whey powder production processes, as well as their concentration in the final products, depend on each type of antibiotic. Knowledge of the transfer of antibiotic residues during the process and final disposal is an input for the risk assessment of their consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
