Abstract

MIMOSIS is a CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor developed to equip the Micro Vertex Detector of the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR/GSI. The sensor will combine an excellent spatial precision of $5~\mu m$ with a time resolution of $5~\mu s$ and provide a peak hit rate capability of $\mathrm{\sim 80~ MHz/cm^2}$. To fulfill its task, MIMOSIS will have to withstand ionising radiation doses of $\sim 5~ \mathrm{MRad}$ and fluences of $\sim 7 \times 10^{13}~\mathrm{n_{eq}/cm^2}$ per year of operation. This paper introduces the reticle size full feature sensor prototype MIMOSIS-2.1, which was improved with respect to earlier prototypes by adding on-chip grouping circuts and by improving the analog power grid. Moreover, it features for a first time a $50~\mu m$ epitaxial layer, which is found to improve the performances of the non-irradiated device significantly. Abstract

The Micro Vertex Detector (MVD) is the most upstream detector of the fixed-target Compressed Baryonic Matter Experiment (CBM) at the future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR). It enables high-precision low-momentum tracking in direct proximity of the target. Reaching the stringent requirements for the MVD, a material budget of~$0.3\,-\,0.5\%\,X_0$ per layer, operating the dedicated CMOS MAPS~(`MIMOSIS') in the target vacuum, the strong magnetic dipole field, and a harsh radiation environment~(5\,Mrad, $7\times10^{13}\,n_{\text{eq}}/\text{cm}^2$ per CBM year), poses an unprecedented integration challenge. Abstract

This paper presents development and characterization of a 3.2 Gb/s serial link transmitter for CMOS image sensors. The transmitter incorporates Reed-Solomon code to achieve low error rate in the harsh environment of subatomic physics experiments. Pre-emphasis is implemented in the transmitter, allowing data transmission over low-mass cables. It is fabricated in a 0.18 $\mu m$ CMOS image process as a standalone chip to characterize its performance, with the core area of 1.8 $mm^2$. A frame data rate of $3\cdot10^{-12}$ with a confidence level of 94.5$\%$ was measured through an FPGA based receiver. The measured nominal power consumption is 135 mW. The transmitter functions normally after irradiated with 4.5 Mrad TID.

Abstract

CMOS Pixel Sensors are making steady progress towards the specifications of the ILD vertex detector. Recent developments are summarised, which show that these devices are close to comply with all major requirements, in particular the read-out speed needed to cope with the beam related background. This achievement is grounded on the double- sided ladder concept, which allows combining signals generated by a single particle in two different sensors, one devoted to spatial resolution and the other to time stamp, both assembled on the same mechanical support. Abstract

Swift, high resolution CMOS pixel sensors are being developed for the ILC vertex detector, aiming to allow approaching the interaction point very closely. A major issue is the time resolution of the sensors needed to deal with the high occupancy generated by the beam related background. A 128x576 pixel sensor providing digitised outputs at a read-out time of 92.5 us, was fabricated in 2008 within the EU project EUDET, and tested with charged particles at the CERN-SPS. Its prominent performances in terms of noise, detection efficiency versus fake hit rate, spatial resolution and radiation tolerance are overviewed. Abstract

A high resolution beam telescope, based on CMOS Monolithic Active Pixels Sensors (MAPS), is being developed under the EUDET collaboration, a coordinated detector R&D program for a future international linear collider. A very good spatial resolution < 5 [micro]m, a fast readout time of 100 [micro]s for the whole array (136 x 576 pixels) and a high granularity can be obtained with this technology. A recent fast MAPS chip, designed in AMS CMOS 0.35 [micro]m Opto process with 14 [micro]m epitaxial layer and called MIMOSA22, was submitted to foundry. MIMOSA22 has an active area of 26.5 [mm.sup.2] with a pixel pitch of 18.4 [micro]m arranged in an array of 576 rows by 136 columns where 8 columns have analog test outputs and 128 have their outputs connected to offset compensated discriminator stages. The pixel array is divided in seventeen blocks of pixels, with different amplification gain, diode size, pixel architecture and is addressed row-wise through a serially programmable (JTAG) sequencer. Discriminators have a common adjustable threshold with internal DAC. MIMOSA22 is the last chip (IDC-Intermediate Digital Chip), before the final sensor of the EUDET-JRA1 beam telescope, which will be installed on the 6 GeV electron beam line at DESY. In this paper, laboratory test results on analog and digital parts are presented. Test beam results, obtained with a 120 GeV pion beam at CERN, are also presented. In the last part of the paper, results on irradiated chips are given. Index Terms--CMOS devices, position sensitive detectors, semiconductor detectors, solid state tracking detectors.

Abstract

Abstract Background Mantle cell lymphoma is a lymphoid entity characterized by adenopathy, blood and bone marrow involment which only recurrent mucosal localisation is the lymphomatoid polyposis. Few other mucosal infiltrations have been already reported. Results We report here the first case of a unique tracheal localisation of mantle cell lymphoma at presentation of the disease. The presence of classical t(11;14)(q13;q32) confirmed the diagnosis of mantle cell lymphoma by eliminating MALT or cancer localisation. Conclusion This case illustrates the necessity to ensure the diagnosis of mucosal lymphoma versus MCL since these diseases need different treatment regimens and prognoses.

The transmitter features the inclusion of Reed–Solomon codes to achieve low transmission error rate. A CML driver with pre-emphasis in the transmitter allows serial transmission over low mass cables. The critical digital circuits are triplicated to resist SEU. The transmitter is fabricated in a 0.18μm CMOS Technology. A power consumption of 135 mW was measured at a typical setting. A frame data rate of 3⋅10−12 with confidence level of 94.5% was obtained through a FPGA based receiver, corresponding to a payload BER of 1.2⋅10−14 with confidence level of 94.9%. The transmitter functions well after being irradiated with 4.5 Mrad TID.

1. Introduction Since chromosome banding techniques have been applied to the analysis of chromosomal aberrations in leukemia and cancer, several hundreds of recurring chromosomal breakpoints have been identified. They also [...], The development of the bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) system was driven in part by the human genome project in order to construct genomic DNA libraries and physical maps for genomic sequencing. The availability of BAC clones has become a valuable tool for identifying cancer genes. We report here our experience in identifying genes located at breakpoints of chromosomal rearrangements and in defining the size and boundaries of deletions in hematological diseases. The methodology used in our laboratory consists of a three-step approach using conventional cytogenetics followed by FISH with commercial probes, then BAC clones. One limitation to the BAC system is that it can only accommodate inserts of up to 300 kb. As a consequence, analyzing the extent of deletions requires a large amount of material. Array comparative genomic hybridization (array-CGH) using a BAC/PAC system can be an alternative. However, this technique has limitations also, and it cannot be used to identify candidate genes at breakpoints of chromosomal rearrangements such as translocations, insertions, and inversions.

Abstract

The International Large Detector (ILD) is a concept for a detector at the International Linear Collider, ILC. The ILC will collide electrons and positrons at energies of initially 500 GeV, upgradeable to 1 TeV. The ILC has an ambitious physics program, which will extend and complement that of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A hallmark of physics at the ILC is precision. The clean initial state and the comparatively benign environment of a lepton collider are ideally suited to high precision measurements. To take full advantage of the physics potential of ILC places great demands on the detector performance. The design of ILD is driven by these requirements. Excellent calorimetry and tracking are combined to obtain the best possible overall event reconstruction, including the capability to reconstruct individual particles within jets for particle ow calorimetry. This requires excellent spatial resolution for all detector systems. A highly granular calorimeter system is combined with a central tracker which stresses redundancy and efficiency. In addition, efficient reconstruction of secondary vertices and excellent momentum resolution for charged particles are essential for an ILC detector. The interaction region of the ILC is designed to host two detectors, which can be moved into the beam position with a push-pull scheme. The mechanical design of ILD and the overall integration of subdetectors takes these operational condition s into account. Abstract

Inv(16)(p13q22) and t(16;16)(p13;q22) are cytogenetic hallmarks of acute myelomonoblastic leukaemia, most of them associated with abnormal bone marrow eosinophils [acute myeloid leukaemia French-American-British classification M4 with eosinophilia (FAB AML-M4Eo)] and a relatively favourable clinical course. They generate a 5'CBFB-3'MYH11 fusion gene. However, in a few cases, although RT-PCR identified a CBFB-MYH11 transcript, normal karyotype and/or fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analyses using commercially available probes are found. We identified a 32-year-old woman with AML-M4Eo and normal karyotype and FISH results. Using two libraries of Bacterial Artificial Chromosome clones on 16p13 and 16q22, FISH analyses identified an insertion of 16q22 material in band 16p13, generating a CBFB-MYH11 type A transcript. Although very rare, insertions should be searched for in patients with discordant cytological and cytogenetic features because of the therapeutic consequences.
