The non-atherosclerotic vasculopathies are an uncommon group of disorders, with diverse etiopathogenesis, involving younger patients when compared with atherosclerotic disease. Clinical presentation varies from acute vascular events - ischemic or hemorrhagic- to uncharacteristic neurologic syndromes. Although the cerebral angiography is the gold standard diagnostic method due to its high sensibility, its specificity is low mainly when compared to imaging evaluation of the arterial wall with carotid and vertebral ultrasound-doppler. Understandably, these chronic disorders have now replaced infectious diseases as the most important public health problem and economic burden to society in most countries. Treatment of metabolic risk factors in order to prevent cardiovascular disease requires an enduring approach with multiple drugs, which can be associated with considerable costs, side effects, and a low rate of therapeutic compliance due to lack of symptoms until later stages of the disease. Since vaccines have proven to be a powerful and effective approach to preventing infectious diseases, attempts to expand the therapeutic use of vaccines into the context of highly prevalent diseases has been attracting increased research interest. Vaccination strategies for chronic diseases in particular are an exciting area of research, with new treatment targets and strategies on the horizon. Pregnancy is a specific stage in women’s life, a time when they face physiological and biomechanical changes that, without proper monitoring, lead to the emergence of musculoskeletal discomforts. Most of these issues are associated with postural changes, balance, ligament laxity, body weight increase and cardiorespiratory disorders. The Pilates method provides several benefits such as increased respiratory capacity, improved muscle strength and the strengthening of torso-stabilizing muscles, flexibility, spine mobility, postural alignment, coordination, proprioception, balance and motor control. Given the specific condition of pregnant women and the variations derived from such condition, Pilates may positively contribute to these women's health within their physical and psychological limitations. The aim of the current study is to address the importance of Pilates, clinical guidelines and physical activities practiced in the main pregnancy periods (trimesters) through a bibliographical analysis. Pregnant women are known for the several physiological changes they go through; thus, Pilates can make important contributions to their health, such as the promotion of quality of life and wellbeing to improve their adaptation to each gestational week.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi otimizar parâmetros para o cultivo de Lichtheimia corymbifera (mesófilo) e Byssochlamys spectabilis (termofílico) para a produção de βglicosidases e comparar as propriedades catalíticas e termodinâmicas das enzimas parcialmente purificadas. A quantidade máxima de β-glicosidase produzida por L. corymbifera foi de 39 U / g de substrato seco (ou 3,9 U / mL) e a de B. spectabilis foi de 77 U / g (ou 7,7 U / mL). O pH e a temperatura ótimos foram 4,5 e 55° C e 4,0 e 50° C para a enzima L. corymbifera e B. spectabilis, respectivamente. A β-glicosidase produzida por L. corymbifera manteve-se estável em pH entre 4,0 e 7,5, enquanto a enzima de B. spectabilis manteve-se estável em pH entre 4,0 e 6,0. Em relação à termoestabilidade, a β-glicosidases produzida por B. spectabilis permaneceu estável por 1 ha 50° C, e a de L. corymbifera foi ativa por 1 ha 45° C. A determinação dos parâmetros termodinâmicos confirmou a maior termoestabilidade da enzima produzida pelo fungo termofílico B. spectabilis, que apresentou maiores valores de ΔH, energia de ativação para desnaturação (Ea) e meia-vida t (1/2). As enzimas eram estáveis na presença de etanol e eram inibidas competitivamente pela glicose. Estas características contribuem para a sua utilização na sacarificação e fermentação simultâneas da biomassa vegetal. β-glycosidases are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of cellobiose, the glucose dimer resulting from the action of cellulolytic enzymes on the cellulose molecule, releasing free glucose that can be used in fermentative processes to produce ethanol, these enzymes are capable of breaking bonds glycosides of terpenes found in the grape, increasing the volatility of these compounds, and in the deglycosylation of isoflavones present in soybean, favoring the absorption of these compounds by the human intestine. The objective of the present study was to optimize parameters for the cultivation of Lichtheimia corymbifera (mesophile) and Byssochlamys spectabilis (thermophilic) for the production of β-glycosidases and to compare the catalytic and thermodynamic properties of the partially purified enzymes. The maximum amount of β-glycosidase produced by L. corymbifera was 39 U / g of dry substrate (or 3.9 U / mL) and that of B. spectabilis was 77 U / g (or 7.7 U / mL ). The optimum pH and temperature were 4.5 and 55 ° C and 4.0 and 50 ° C for the enzyme L. corymbifera and B. spectabilis, respectively. The β-glycosidase produced by L. corymbifera remained stable at pH between 4.0 and 7.5, while the B. spectabilis enzyme remained stable at pH between 4.0 and 6.0. In relation to thermostability, β-glycosidases produced by B. spectabilis remained stable for 1 h at 50 ° C, and that of L. corymbifera was active for 1 h at 45 ° C. The determination of the thermodynamic parameters confirmed the higher thermostability of the enzyme produced by the thermophilic fungus B. spectabilis, which presented higher values of ΔH, activation energy for denaturation (Ea) and halflife t (1/2). The enzymes were stable in the presence of ethanol and were competitively inhibited by glucose. These characteristics contribute to its use in simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of plant biomass.

The mechanisms involved in such association are not fully understood. It was demonstrated in previous studies by our group that there is an autonomic modulation imbalance before the development of hypertension in people with a positive family history of hypertension. This project evaluates the impact of combined oral contraceptives on anthropometric (BMI, abdominal circumference), hemodynamic (blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac outflow and total peripheral resistance), metabolic (serum glucose, total cholesterol and triglycerides) and autonomic (serum cathecolamines, heart rate variability) in normotensive and in hypertensive women (18 to 35 years of age) under combined oral contraceptives. We did not observe any significant change in blood pressure, hemodynamic and autonomic variables in the normotensive group under second and third generation of combined oral contraceptives. The same with hypertensive women under drospirenona (DRSP) and etinilestradiol (EE). Concerning the metabolic variables (against the control group), the normotensive women under combined oral contraceptives showed an increase in both means of total cholesterol (165.95 ?? 29.21 vs 189.11 ?? 28.96) and triglycerides (72.62 ?? 23.44 vs 110.07 ?? 40.60). Hypertensive women under DRSP+EE had also a significant increase in triglycerides when comparing basal (72.62 ?? 23.44 vs 110.07 ?? 40.60) with the later 6 month period( 72.62 ?? 23.44 vs 110.07 ?? 40.60). Moreover, in this same group of hypertensive women under Drospirenone-containing oral contraceptive, no change was found in potassium levels, the aldosterone-renin-angiotensin system or pharmacological interactions with anti-hypertensive drugs. Our conclusion is that second and third generation combined hormonal oral contraceptives causes no significant change in blood pressure or hemodynamic and autonomic variables. Also, DRSP+EE demonstrates a safe profile when used by young hypertensive women under anti-hypertensive drugs. No detectable variations in blood pressure and neuro-humoral activation, no hydro electrolyte imbalance and no metabolic change (except for a slight triglycerides augmentation) was encountered. Os mecanismos envolvidos ainda n??o est??o totalmente elucidados. Estudos pr??vios do nosso grupo demonstraram que h?? um desequil??brio na modula????o auton??mica, mensurada pela an??lise da variabilidade da frequ??ncia card??aca, antecedendo o desenvolvimento de HAS em filhos de hipertensos. No presente projeto, avaliamos o impacto do uso de CHOC em par??metros antropom??tricos (??ndice de massa corp??rea, circunferncia abdominal), hemodin??micos (press??o arterial, frequencia card??aca, d??bito card??aco e resist??ncia vascular perif??rica), metab??licos (glicemia, colesterol total e triglic??rides), e auton??micos (dosagem s??rica de noradrenalina e variabilidade da frequ??ncia card??aca) em mulheres normotensas e hipertensas usu??rias e n??o usu??rias de CHOC, na faixa et??ria de 18 a 35 anos de idade. Como resultados, n??o observamos mudan??as significativas na press??o arterial, vari??veis hemodin??micas e auton??micas na coorte de mulheres normotensas usu??rias e n??o usu??rias de CHOC de segunda e terceira gera????o, bem como no estudo prospectivo de mulheres hipertensas usu??rias de drospirenona (DRSP) mais etinilestradiol (EE). Com rela????o ??s vari??veis metab??licas, comparado ao grupo controle, a coorte de mulheres normotensas usu??rias de CHOC apresentou valores m??dios de colesterol total (165,95 ?? 29,21 vs 189,11 ?? 28,96) e triglic??rides (72,62 ?? 23,44 vs 110,07 ?? 40,60) superiores aos observados no grupo das n??o usu??rias. As mulheres hipertensas usu??rias de DRSP+EE, tamb??m apresentaram valores m??dios de triglic??rides superiores estatisticamente significantes comparado ao momento inicial (124,3 ?? 57,7 vs 174,7 ?? 70,6), respectivamente basal e ap??s 6 meses. Ainda no grupo de hipertensas, o uso de CHOC contendo drospirenona n??o se associou a mudan??as na atividade do sistema renina angiotensina aldosterona, n??o alterou os n??veis s??ricos de pot??ssio, nem apresentou intera????es medicamentosas com medicamentos anti-hipertensivos usados. Conclu??mos que o uso de CHOC de segunda e terceira gera????o n??o causou altera????es significativas na press??o arterial, par??metros hemodin??micos e auton??micos, com modesto impacto negativo sobre o perfil lip??dico. E a DRSP+EE apresenta um perfil seguro quando usado como contraceptivo num grupo de mulheres hipertensas jovens j?? em uso de anti-hipertensivos, considerando-se que: n??o foram detectadas varia????es nos valores de press??o aretrial e de ativa????o neuro-humoral, n??o ocorreram dist??rbios hidro eletrol??ticos, e nem altera????es em par??metros metab??licos, execeto um leve aumento nos n??veis de triglic??rides.

O hortelã-pimenta é um hibrido triplo, Mentha x piperita, utilizado de forma medicinal no tratamento de náuseas, cólicas gastrointestinais, flatulências, cálculos biliares, icterícia, ansiedade, expectoração e expulsão de vermes intestinais. Na micropropagação, o BAP (6-benzilaminopurina) e KIN (cinetina) têm sido as fontes de citocininas mais empregadas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de reguladores vegetais na multiplicação in vitro de hortelã-pimenta. Explantes constituídos de segmentos nodais provenientes de plântulas já estabelecidas in vitro com aproximadamente 0,5 cm foram inoculados em meio MS, suplementado com diferentes associações de BAP e KIN, em adição de 30 g L-1 de sacarose. As concentrações de citocininas utilizadas foram 0,0; 1,0 e 2,0 mg L-1 de BAP e 0,0; 0,5 e 1,0 mg L-1 de KIN. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com nove tratamentos consistindo de cinco frascos cada um, sendo que cada frasco continha quatro explantes. A utilização de 2,0 mg L-1 de BAP promove a multiplicação in vitro de hortelã-pimenta, porém, diminui o índice de sobrevivência. O uso de citocininas aumenta a massa fresca e seca dos explantes e a ausência destes reguladores propicia o alongamento nesta espécie. Peppermint is used for medical treatments of nausea, gastrointestinal cramps, flatulence, gallstones, jaundice, anxiety, sputum and expulsion of intestinal worms. In micropropagation, BAP (6-benzylaminopurine) and KIN (kinetin) have been the most widely used sources of cytokinins. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of plant growth regulators in multiplication of peppermint. Explants consisting of nodal segments from seedlings already established in vitro with approximately 0,5 cm were inoculated on MS medium supplemented with different combinations of BAP and KIN and 30 g L-1 of sucrose. The concentrations of cytokinins used were 0,0; 1,0 and 2,0 mg L-1 of BAP and 0,0; 0,5 and 1,0 mg L-1 of KIN. The experiment was set up in a completely randomized design with nine treatments consisting of five bottles each, and each vial contained four explants. The use of 2,0 mg L-1 of BAP promotes the in vitro multiplication of peppermint, but decreases the survival rate. Cytokinins increase fresh and dry weight of explants and the absence of these regulators provides the elongation in this specie.
