Abstract

Fund accounting tree design in computer-based accounting systems has been around for nearly 25 years. This is not new, however how we use this system has changed dramatically. The information needs of the Library Administration, Subject Librarians, Acquisitions, Collection Development, and college departments are diverse. We are no longer able to group materials into just the basic categories of monographs and serials. Reports must now accommodate the multiplicity of library material formats: e-books, streaming video, CDs, DVDs, etc. The accounting tree and the use of mnemonics in the fund code design enables reporting that tracks expenditures precisely and makes reporting those expenditures more convenient.

2. What Difference Does It Make? One Study of Student Background and the Evaluation of Library Instruction.

Discussion of course-related library instruction focuses on a study at Wichita State University (Kansas) that indicated little relationship between students' demographics, previous library instruction, or prior use of library resources and how they evaluated library instruction for an undergraduate anthropology course. ABSTRACT. Ensuring bibliographic access to a university research institute's technical report series demands that the reports be cata- loged, input into OCLC, and sent to relevant indexinglabstracting services. Librarians at Wichita State University implemented stan- dards and procedures to process a technical report series produced by h e University's National Institute for Aviation Research. This paper includes: a history of the Institute, the development of the report series, selected indexinglabslracting services, details of a cala- loging pilot project, and a description of current cataloging proce- dures with MARC fields. 5. What difference does it make? One study of student background and the evaluation of library instruction

Abstract

The results of a six-year study indicate little relationship between students' demographics, previous library instruction, or prior use of library resources and how they evaluated library instruction for one undergraduate anthropology course. There is a more positive relationship between subject interest and evaluation of the instruction. These results suggest that librarians should be less concerned about students' prior experience and more concerned with ensuring that course-related library instruction focuses on specific goals and reinforces student interest in the subject.
