The use of tools such as MHealth may benefit the physical and psychological health of adolescents with CF. Therefore, this study aims to examine the benefits of MHealth in adolescents with CF through a systematic review. A search of the scientific literature following the PRISMA guidelines was conducted in the ProQuest Central, PubMed, Web Of Science, Embase and ínDICE databases, resulting in 186 studies, of which seven were selected (based on inclusion and exclusion criteria). Two blinded evaluators conducted the searches, the selection and data extraction process and the quality evaluation of the studies. The agreement between evaluators was excellent in all cases (Kappa ranged from .78 to .96). 214 pediatric CF patients (61.71% female) participated in the final analysis. The mean age was 12.76 years. The studies evaluated different types of mHealth tools, with greater homogeneity in the independent and dependent variables. The quality of the studies analyzed was poor, since these had small samples selected for convenience, conducted non-experimental and low-quality designs, recorded few variables, and their statistical analyses were not sufficiently robust. Further research is needed in this field, improving research designs and considering physical and psychological adjustment variables, as well as patients and family members in the process of health improvement.

Background: As a result of national lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak, teachers were forced to suspend their classes and replace them with online teaching and home schooling. Additional stressors such as competing family responsibility have increased their worries and mental health problems. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of COVID-19-related worries on teachers' emotional symptoms, considering the mediating role of several protective factors. Methods: A total of 614 Chilean teachers (94.60% women) participated in this study using a cross-sectional design and incidental sampling method. Self-report data was collected assessing emotional symptoms, COVID-19-related worries, life satisfaction, affect balance, and resilience. Descriptive analyses, Pearson's correlations, hierarchical regressions, and mediation models were conducted. Results: The results indicated that emotional symptoms were associated with prepandemic physical and mental health problems, higher levels of worries and negative affect, as well as lower levels of life satisfaction and resilience. Results from the mediation models showed that the negative impact of COVID-19-related worries on emotional symptoms was alleviated by affect balance and resilience. Conclusions: These findings highlight the importance of addressing the risk and protective factors for teachers' mental health during exceptional situations such as the ongoing pandemic.

To provide an overall picture of the relations of emotional intelligence and well-being, both the traditional monotonic effects and the non-monotonic effects of emotional attention on well-being were explored in relation to stress prediction. The purpose was to develop an accurate understanding of the different emotional conditions and states of well-being that may be associated with adolescents' stress. The participants included 132 adolescents (mean = 12.73 years, standard deviation = 0.72, 51.5% girls) who completed the Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24, the Satisfaction With Life Scale, the Scale of Positive and Negative Experiences, and the Perceived Stress Scale-4. Hair samples were collected to assess physiological stress. Emotional intelligence and well-being explained between 36% and 39% of the variance in perceived and physiological stress. Emotional attention seems to operate in the same way regardless of its conceptualisation as monotonic or non-monotonic. In general, decreased attention and increased clarity and well-being should be the aim of adolescent interventions to achieve better health.

SS can have a negative impact on family dynamics, causing stress and psychopathology. Poor adaptation by the family caregiver negatively affects the pediatric patient. Our objective was therefore to study the adjustment of the main family caregivers of pediatric patients with SS, analyzing the factors influencing it. One hundred and ten primary family caregivers of pediatric SS patients from hospitals in Valencia, Spain, participated. Parental stress (Pediatric Inventory for Parents), anxious and depressive symptoms (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), family functioning (Family Cohesion and Adaptation Scale), and adult attachment (Adult Attachment Questionnaire) were evaluated. Fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) was performed. The caregiver's age, anxiety, and attachment variables are significant when predicting the main family caregiver's adaptation to the stress caused by the diagnosis. These results will help improve adaptation to the diagnosis, since healthcare personnel will be able to establish that caregivers and/or families present a greater risk of mismatch more quickly and apply the necessary intervention.

The lockdown due to COVID-19, has affected the mental health of the population. Recent literature suggests a greater psychological impact on adolescents regardless of their cultural background.

A great part of the research in adolescent popularity is based on sociometric methods, not always distinguishing between social preference (acceptance or likeability) and perceived popularity (visibility or salience), which has practical and theoretical implications. The aim of this work was to analyze the features that a sample of 406 Spanish adolescents (53.2% girls, M = 16.76 years) and their teachers (n = 26, 50% women) associated with perceived popularity. The data analysis established three main themes that categorize perceived popularity: behaviors, developmental traits, and other resources, which include both peer-valued and not valued characteristics. Qualitative and quantitative comparisons indicated differences between male and female popularity, mostly from the point of view of the students. Our findings suggest that perceived popularity is consistent with gender stereotypes, and that positive and negative popularity perceptions coexist with a denial of popularity as a real phenomenon.

Background. T1DM is a significant chronic condition that necessitates regular medical monitoring, dietary and physical activity supervision, and daily blood glucose monitoring and insulin therapy. The management of this disease and the transition to adolescence often have a significant psychosocial impact on the individual and their family. Objective. The objective of this correlational study was to examine the reciprocal influence between adolescents and their caregivers, with a particular focus on the beneficial effect of receiving psychological support sessions from family members and adolescents with T1DM in a pilot study. Methods. An indicator variable was developed to facilitate an analysis of changes occurring prior to, as well as following, the administration of the treatment in question. Family caregivers received two therapy sessions, and we analyzed their perceived caregiver stress. Adolescents had five sessions, and the reduction in emotional distress was studied in them. Results. The sample comprised 15 adolescent–family caregiver dyads. All parents were mothers of adolescents, with a mean age of 47.67 and 13.47 years, respectively. Descriptive statistics and Spearman correlations were conducted. Following the completion of the psychological counseling sessions, the data revealed a significant positive correlation between the perceived reduction in global stress experienced by the caregiver and the adolescent's emotional distress, with correlation coefficients of 0.74 and 0.61, respectively. Furthermore, a positive relationship was observed between the reduction in existing difficulties in family role adjustment and the reduction in emotional distress among diabetic youth, with correlation coefficients of 0.72 and 0.57. The frequency of emotional distress of the caregiver also correlated with adolescent emotional distress, with a coefficient of 0.60. Conclusions. The findings of this study provide evidence for the circularity of family systems change. A positive emotional contagion effect is observed in the improvements in stress and emotional distress experienced during adolescence and in the family's adjustment to T1DM, as reported by caregivers and their children who received psychological support sessions. Research on adolescents suggests that decision-making styles, emotional experiences, and life satisfaction play a crucial role in emotional and behavioral difficulties and the development of prosocial behaviors. This study analyzed the relationship between decision-making styles, prosociality, and difficulties among adolescent offenders, as well as the mediating role of life satisfaction and emotional experiences in this relationship. A total of 457 adolescents aged from 14 to 19 years (M = 16.23; S.D. = 1.31; 32.2% female) participated in this study. The variables of interest were assessed using self-reports and descriptive, reliability, correlational, predictive, and mediation analyses were performed. A significant association was found between the study variables. Non-rational decision-making styles and negative emotional experiences influenced difficulties, whereas rational decision-making, life satisfaction, and positive emotional experiences influenced prosocial behavior. Furthermore, the results show that the relationship between rational decision-making and prosocial behavior is mediated by life satisfaction, emotional balance, and positive emotional experiences. Similarly, negative emotional experiences mediated the relationship between a hypervigilance decision-making style and emotional and behavioral difficulties. The results of this study indicate the importance of intervening in decision-making styles, emotional management, and life satisfaction in offending adolescents to decrease behavioral and emotional difficulties and favor prosocial behavior. The present study aims to determine the effects of an intervention program based on Mayer and Salovey's (1997) model of emotional intelligence. A total of 250 university students participated in this study ("mean" = 21.89; "standard deviation" = 2.60; 75.20% women), who were randomized to experimental group ("number of subjects" = 63) and control group ("number of subjects" = 187). The emotional education program comprised seven 2-h sessions during 2 months. Participants completed the trait meta-mood scale, basic empathy scale, satisfaction with life scale, scale of positive and negative experience, mood questionnaire, and depression anxiety and stress scale. Results showed that the intervention program significantly increased emotional intelligence, empathy, and positive mood, as well as subjective well-being at post-intervention. These changes disappeared at follow-up. No significant moderators were found, neither demographic variables nor initial levels of emotional symptoms. Implementing intervention programs at universities for developing student's emotional competence might be beneficial for their subjective well-being and mental health.

Background: Based on Mayer and Salovey's model of emotional intelligence, this study examined whether perceived stress mediates the interplay of emotional intelligence and life satisfaction for girls and boys during early and middle adolescence. Methods: Using multigroup structural equation modeling with questionnaire data from a sample of Spanish adolescent students (N = 800; M[subscript Age]T1 = 14.02, M[subscript Age]T2 = 15.00, SD = 1.21) in 2 waves (T1 = March 2015; T2 = December 2015). Results: Results of multigroup structural equation modeling indicated no group differences between boys and girls in early adolescence (7th and 8th grade) and middle adolescence (9th and 10th grade), as stress function as mediator between emotional intelligence and life satisfaction for all groups. However, latent mean comparison indicated that girls not only perceive and understand emotions better than boys, but they also perceive higher amounts of stress at an older age. Conclusion: Results indicate the potential risk of perceived stress that might drop the protective effect of emotional intelligence on life satisfaction. These findings have implications for future research and educational practice considering combined prevention programs for adolescent's health and well-being.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the impact of bronchial asthma‐related factors on the emotional well‐being of adolescents with bronchial asthma and their primary caregivers. Background: Bronchial asthma is a common chronic disease in childhood and adolescence that can have a psychological impact on both patients and their primary caregivers. Methods: The study used a cross‐sectional design and included 150 patient–caregiver dyads diagnosed with bronchial asthma, aged between 12 and 16 years and collected between 2018 and 2020. It assessed the emotional adjustment of both patients and caregivers and recorded variables related to the disease. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted to perform statistical analyses. Results: Caregivers had higher anxiety and depression scores than patients. Good adherence to treatment was necessary for the emotional adjustment of the dyad. Controlled asthma, good adherence to treatment and a reduction in medical treatment were the primary predictors of emotional adjustment. Conclusions: The study highlights the importance of assessing anxiety and depression levels in both patients and caregivers because the presence of these symptoms can lead to the misuse of medication, inadequate inhalation techniques, the omission of medication and reduced confidence in controlling asthma symptoms. Certain variables related to asthma, such as its degree of control, severity, duration of diagnosis and adherence, have been linked to adjustment to the disease by the adolescent–caregiver dyad. The aim of this study is the relationship between psychological variables and adjustment to the disease in patients and their primary family caregivers to analyze the possible existence of emotional contagion between them. A total of 150 caregiver–patient dyads participated. The results indicate higher levels of anxious-depressive symptomatology in the caregiver than in the patient. The caregiver's presence of anxiety and depression is related to lower scores in quality of life, self-esteem, and a more significant perceived threat of illness. The caregivers' emotional adjustment is predicted by their own variables (stress, need for approval and hostile conflict resolution) and by those of the patient (self-esteem, threat of illness and quality of life). In the patient's case, their adjustment was mainly explained by their own variables and caregiver's perceived stress. Parents and other primary caregivers provide attention, care, and love and can promote a safe environment for emotional adjustment in patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ongoing pandemic has dramatically disrupted daily life, increasing the risk of developing psychiatric disorders and poor mental wellbeing. The compound effects of social, political and psychological stressors have increased psychological symptoms among adolescents and young people, with worries about COVID-19 playing a central role in the clinical course of their mental health problems caused by the pandemic. The aim of this cross-cultural study was to examine the social psychological effects of COVID-19 on adolescents' and young people's mental health and wellbeing in Ibero-American population. Participants involved 6,283 adolescents and young adults from five different Spanish-Speaking countries (83.7% female) aged between 12 and 30 years (M = 18.79; SD = 3.48). Participants completed the Worries about COVID-19 and its Consequences Scale (W-COV), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Descriptive analyses, multivariate ANOVAs and Pearson correlations were performed, as well as Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) testing a mediational model. The results indicate cross-cultural difference in COVID-19 related worries, emotional symptoms and life satisfaction. Results from SEM confirmed the overall indirect effects of COVID-19 cases, political response and participants' conditions during lockdown on depression, anxiety, stress and life satisfaction mediated by COVID-19 related worries. These findings suggest that the social psychological factors underlying psychological symptoms could be partly explained by increased worries about COVID-19 and its personal, social, economic and political consequences, which may offer guidance to policy makers and health services for safeguarding youth mental well-being.
