Durante la pandemia, las medidas de distanciamiento social afectaron las relaciones personales y las plataformas digitales se consolidaron, lo que podría haber generado un posible aumento en las experiencias de sexting en ciertos sectores. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar los cambios en la frecuencia del sexting durante el confinamiento por COVID-19 en jóvenes mexicanos, así como identificar diferencias según sexo, edad y experiencia sexual. Se contó con la participación de 1423 jóvenes de diez estados de la República Mexicana, de los cuales 1142 habían tenido experiencias de sexting. La edad promedio de estos jóvenes fue de 20.49 años, y cerca de la mitad de ellos fueron mujeres. Dadas las medidas sanitarias, la aplicación de los cuestionarios se llevó a cabo mediante una plataforma en línea y se diseminó con el apoyo de un panel de encuestas. Los resultados mostraron un incremento en las prácticas de sexting, principalmente entre la población más joven, sin experiencia sexual y en los hombres, aunque los efectos fueron moderados. Los hallazgos se discuten en virtud de las formas en que se ha evaluado el comportamiento de sexting, así como las medidas adoptadas en México durante la pandemia.

Resumen: Introducción: La pH-impedanciometría esofágica es una herramienta para el diagnóstico de reflujo gastroesofágico en en nĩnos, la posición del sensor de pH es crucial para una lectura confiable, las fórmulas existentes para el cálculo de la inserción del catéter no son tan precisas; el objetivo de este estudio fue desarrollar una nueva fórmula para la adecuada inserción de dicho catéter. Material y métodos: Estudio transversal, de niños pacientes pediátricos a los que se realizó pH-impedanciometría y control radiográfico posterior para estimar la longitud de distancia de inserción correcta del catéter; se registraron las variables de: edad, sexo, peso, talla, distancia narina-tragus, tragus-horquilla esternal y horquilla-xifoides, así como la longitud inicial de inserción determinada por fórmulas de Strobel e intervalos de talla. Se realizó un análisis de regresión multivariada para predecir la longitud de inserción final y se obtuvieron ANOVA de la regresión y R cuadrado ajustado de Pearson. Resultados: Se realizaron 45 pH-impedanciometrías, el 53% fueron masculinos. Las variables edad y peso no mostraron distribución normal. En el modelo de regresión inicial las variables sin correlación significativa con la longitud de inserción final fueron: sexo (p 0.124), longitud determinada por Strobel o intervalos de talla (p 0.078), distancia narina-tragus (p 0.905) y distancia tragus-horquilla (p 0.404). La ecuación final: 5.6 + (talla en cm * 0.12) + (distancia horquilla-xifoides * 0.57) alcanza un R2 de 0.93 (p 0.000). Conclusiones: Esta fórmula puede ser considerada como una opción válida para la colocación del catéter de pH-impedanciometría en pediatría. The final equation: 5.6 + (height in cm * 0.12) + (sternal notch to xiphoid process distance * 0.57) produced an R2 of 0.93 (P 0.000). Conclusions: This formula can be considered a valid option for placement of the pH-impedance monitoring catheter in pediatrics.

Resumen: Introducción: En 2019 surgió el SARS-CoV-2, que tuvo un gran impacto a nivel mundial, y el área de endoscopia sufrió grandes cambios, provocando una reducción del número de procedimientos y sus indicaciones. Objetivo: Comparar la cantidad, la indicación y el tipo de procedimientos del 2019 contra 2020. Método: Estudio observacional, analítico, transversal y retrospectivo obteniendo la información del registro de endoscopia. Se utilizó la lista de cotejo STROBE. Análisis estadístico: Variables cuantitativas analizadas con estadística descriptiva (medidas de tendencia central y dispersión) y para las categóricas, frecuencias y porcentajes. Para comparar se utilizó la t de Student/U de Mann-Whitney para las variables cuantitativas; tablas de contingencia con prueba Ji cuadrado o exacta de Fisher para categóricas. Resultados: En el 2019 se realizaron 277 procedimientos en comparación de 139 en 2020. La media de edad en el 2019 fue de 98.53 meses (DE: 61.46) y para el 2020 la media fue de 77.02 meses (DE: 59.81). Tipo de procedimiento en 2019: 352 fueron procedimientos diagnósticos y 136 terapéuticos, mientras que, en 2020, 51 fueron diagnósticos y 88 terapéuticos. Introduction and aim: SARS-CoV-2 emerged in 2019 and had a huge impact on the world. The area of endoscopy suffered great changes, causing a reduction in the number of procedures and its indications. The aim of our study was to compare the quantity, indication, and type of procedures in 2019 with those in 2020. Method: A retrospective, observational, analytic, and cross-sectional study was conducted, obtaining information from the endoscopy registry. The STROBE checklist was employed. Statistical analysis: The quantitative variables were analyzed with descriptive statistics (measures of central tendency and dispersion) and the categorical variables with frequencies and percentages. The quantitative variables were compared, using the Student’s t test/Mann–Whitney U test, and the categorical variables with contingency tables, using the Fisher’s exact test. Results: In 2019, a total of 277 procedures were performed, compared with 139 in 2020. Mean patient age was 98.53 months (61.46 SD) in 2019 and 77.02 months (59.81 SD) in 2020; 352 diagnostic procedures and 136 therapeutic procedures were carried out in 2019, compared with 51 diagnostic procedures and 88 therapeutic procedures in 2020. Antecedentes: Mediante exploraciones en el centro-sur de Sinaloa y revisión en iNaturalistMX se detectaron ejemplares de una Jatropha arbustiva con hojas 3-5 lobadas que no correspondía con las especies conocidas. Preguntas: ¿Son las poblaciones de Jatropha del centro-sur de Sinaloa una especie nueva? ¿Cuántas y cuáles son las especies de Jatropha presentes en Sinaloa, México? Especies de estudio: Jatropha. Sitio y años de estudio: Sinaloa, México; 2021-2024. Métodos: Colectas botánicas y fotografías en campo de Jatropha sp. nov. y J. purpurea. Revisión de literatura, ejemplares de herbario y iNaturalistMX. Láminas comparativas, mapas de distribución y una clave de identificación de las especies arbustivas de Jatropha con hojas 3-5 lobadas en el occidente y noroeste de México. Resultados: Jatropha marquezii es una especie nueva endémica de Sinaloa. Es similar en habito a J. purpurea, pero se diferencia por su corola verde-amarillenta con tricomas largos en la parte interna, con lóbulos conspicuamente reflexos y prácticamente sin glándulas estipitadas. De Jatropha bullockii se diferencia por sus estambres uniseriados y corola cupulada. Se contabilizaron 14 especies de Jatropha para Sinaloa, de las cuales Jatropha marquezii es la de menor área de distribución (< 30 km2) y J. purpurea la de hábitat mayormente amenazado. Conclusiones: Jatropha marquezii sp. nov. se parece a J. purpurea y las especies de la sección Fremontioides. Se recomienda incluir a J. marquezii y J. purpurea en la categoría En Peligro de la Lista Roja de la UICN.

Abstract Background: Medications currently used to treat pain are frequently associated with serious adverse effects and rapid development of tolerance. Thus, there is a need to develop more effective, and safer medicines for the population. Blocking NMDA receptors (NMDAR) has shown to be a promising target for the development of new drugs. That statement is due to NMDAR activation and glutamate release in the spinal cord which affects chronic pain modulation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the possible spinal antinociceptive activity of PnTx4(5-5) toxin. The peptide is purified from the venom of the spider P. nigriventer and its affinity for NMDAR and sodium channels Nav1.2-1.6 has already been established. Methods: We compared its effect and safety with MK-801 (NMDAR antagonist) and evaluated its influence on glutamate and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in CSF. PnTx4(5-5) was administered intrathecally in the Formalin test and co-administered with NMDA in the Spontaneous pain test. After three minutes of observation, mice cerebrospinal fluid was collected to measure glutamate and ROS levels. Results: The spider peptide inhibited nociception as post-treatment in the inflammatory phase of the Formalin test. Furthermore, it inhibited spontaneous nociception induced by NMDA, being more potent and effective than MK-801 in both models tested. A glutamate rise level in the CSF of mice was significantly reduced by the toxin, but ROS increase was not affected. The animals’ motor skills were not affected by the tested doses of NMDAR inhibitors. Conclusion: In conclusion, the results suggest PnTx4(5-5) may mediate its antinociceptive effect in the spinal cord not only by inhibiting postsynaptic receptors but probably also by acting on autoreceptors. This effect does not affect the motricity of mice at the highest dose tested, which suggests that it has therapeutic potential and safety for use as a painkiller.

Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is a frequent normal phenomenon in children of any age. It is more common in infants, in whom the majority of episodes are short-lived and cause no other symptoms or complications, differentiating it from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The diagnosis and management of GER and GERD continue to be a challenge for the physician. Therefore, the aim of the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología was to adapt international documents to facilitate their adoption by primary care physicians, with the goal of standardizing quality of care and reducing the number of diagnostic tests performed and inappropriate medication use.The ADAPTE methodology was followed, and the recommendations were approved utilizing the Delphi strategy. The executive committee carried out the review of the guidelines, position papers, and international reviews that met the a priori quality criteria and possible applicability in a local context. The recommendations were taken from those sources and adapted, after which they were approved by the working group. The consensus consists of 25 statements and their supporting information on the diagnosis and treatment of GER and GERD in infants. The adapted document is the first systematic effort to provide an adequate consensus for use in Mexico, proposing a practical approach to and management of GER and GERD for healthcare providers. Resumen: El reflujo gastroesofágico (RGE), es un fenómeno frecuente y normal en niños de cualquier edad, siendo más común en lactantes, donde la mayoría de los episodios son breves y no causan otros síntomas ni complicaciones, lo que lo diferencia de la Enfermedad por Reflujo Gastroesofágico (ERGE). El diagnóstico y manejo del RGE y la ERGE siguen siendo un desafío para el médico; es por esto qué la Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología tuvo como objetivo adaptar los documentos internacionales, para facilitar la adopción por parte de los profesionales de atención primaria, con la intención de estandarizar la calidad de la atención y reducir el número de pruebas diagnósticas y el uso inapropiado de medicamentos.La metodología que se siguió fue ADAPTE y para la aprobación de las recomendaciones se utilizó la estrategia Delphi. El comité ejecutivo realizó la revisión de guías, documentos de posición y revisiones internacionales, que cumplían a priori, los criterios de calidad y posible aplicabilidad al contexto local, de los cuales se extrajeron y adecuaron las recomendaciones que posteriormente fueron aprobadas por el grupo de desarrollo. El consenso contiene 25 enunciados junto con sus consideraciones de sustento, para el diagnóstico y tratamiento del RGE y de la ERGE en lactantes. El documento de adaptación representa el primer esfuerzo sistemático por adecuar un consenso para su uso en el contexto nacional, propone un enfoque y manejo prácticos de RGE y ERGE para los proveedores de atención médica.

Fungal melanonychia is an uncommon condition, most typically caused by opportunistic melanin-producing pigmented filamentous fungi in the nail plate. In the present study, the clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with fungal melanonychia were analyzed through a systematic review of cases reported in the literature. The MESH terms used for the search were “melanonychia” AND “fungal” OR “fungi” through four databases: PubMed, SciELO, Google scholar and SCOPUS. After discarding inadequate articles using the exclusion criteria, 33 articles with 133 cases were analyzed, of which 44% were women, 56% were men and the age range was between 9 and 87 years. The majority of cases were reported in Turkey followed by Korea and Italy. Frequent causal agents detected were Trichophyton rubrum as non-dematiaceous in 55% and Neoscytalidium dimidiatum as dematiaceous in 8%. Predisposing factors included nail trauma, migration history, employment and/or outdoor activities. Involvement in a single nail was presented in 45% of the cases, while more than one affected nail was identified in 21%, with a range of 2 to 10 nails. Regarding the clinical classification, 41% evidenced more than one type of melanonychia, 21% corresponded to the longitudinal pattern and 13% was of total diffuse type. Likewise, the usual dermoscopic pattern was multicolor pigmentation. It is concluded that fungal melanonychia is an uncommon variant of onychomycosis and the differential diagnosis is broad, which highlights the complexity of this disease.

Orange processing generates peel by-products rich in phenolic compounds, particularly flavanones like hesperidin and narirutin, offering potential health benefits. Utilizing these by-products is of significant interest in supporting Spain’s circular bioeconomy. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the fermentation of orange peels by different lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains and its impact on phenolic composition and antioxidant activity. Three different LAB strains, two Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, and one Levilactobacillus brevis were utilized. The phenolic compounds were measured by HPLC-ESI-TOF-MS, and antioxidant activity was assessed using DPPH and ABTS methods. The growth of the LAB strains varied, showing initial increases followed by gradual declines, with strain-specific patterns observed. Medium acidification occurred during fermentation. A phenolic analysis revealed an 11% increase in phenolic acids in peels fermented by La. plantarum CECT 9567-C4 after 24 h, attributed to glycosylation by LAB enzymes. The flavonoid content exhibited diverse trends, with Le. brevis showing an 8% increase. The antioxidant assays demonstrated strain- and time-dependent variations. Positive correlations were found between antioxidant activity and total phenolic compounds. The results underscore the importance of bacterial selection and fermentation time for tailored phenolic composition and antioxidant activity in orange peel extracts. LAB fermentation, particularly with La. plantarum CECT 9567 and Le. brevis, holds promise for enhancing the recovery of phenolic compounds and augmenting antioxidant activity in orange peels, suggesting potential applications in food and beverage processing.

Background: According to the World Health Organization, Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is a risk for cardiovascular diseases that cause millions of deaths in the world, making it essential to prevent and control it. Primary SAH is associated with behaviors that affect the cardiovascular system and with physiological hyperarousal derived from anxiety, anger, or excessive stress in frequency, duration, and intensity. Secondary SAH is related to underlying pathologies. The etiology of SAH involves taking antihypertensives and modifying behaviors longitudinally. Self-efficacy as a mediator and predictor of healthy behavior has been relevant in the health context, particularly in hypertension as an asymptomatic disease. This condition requires treatment based on a valid and reliable instrument tested with hypertensive Mexicans. Objective: Analyze the psychometric properties of the self-efficacy scale for medication adherence, revised (MASES-R). Design: Instrumental. Sample: 250 hypertensive patients: 146 (58.4%) were women and 104 (41.6%) men, with a mean age of 59.58 years (SD = 9.250). Instrument: The MASES-R scale was analyzed by three experts in behavioral medicine, who approved the translation into Spanish and the validity of the instrument's content. Procedure: Individual participants responded to the scale in a cubicle assigned by a public hospital. Results: The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) extended a one-dimensional scale, a total explained variance of 59.54%, α = 0.94, and Ω = 0.95. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) suggested an adequate adjustment (CMIN/DF = 1.404, p = .070, CFI = .994, TLI = .988, RMSEA = .04) when removing item 3, leaving 12 items, not the 13 from the original MASES-R. Its predictive capacity is suggested by correlations between medication self-efficacy and therapeutic adherence (r = .284, p = .001). Discussion: The MASES-R has adequate psychometric properties; it is brief and easily applicable to the Mexican population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Antecedentes: Sinaloa es uno de los estados de México con mayor necesidad de estudios florísticos. Preguntas: ¿Cuáles son las plantas endémicas de Sinaloa? ¿cuáles son las regiones con mayor endemismo? ¿cuál es su importancia etnobotánica? ¿cuáles son las especies prioritarias para la conservación? Especies de estudio: Plantas vasculares endémicas. Sitio y años de estudio: Sinaloa, México; 2018-2021. Métodos: Revisión de bibliografía, colecciones de herbarios y bases de datos electrónicas; trabajo de campo en localidades tipo y de distribución potencial de las especies endémicas. Se diseñó y aplicó un Índice de Conservación Prioritaria con base en parámetros ecológicos y etnobotánicos. Resultados: Se registraron 77 especies endémicas estrictas a Sinaloa, incluidas en 30 familias y 61 géneros; 209 especies se comparten con uno o dos estados vecinos entre sí. Las sierras de Surutato, Concordia y Tacuichamona albergan la mayor cantidad de endemismo estricto. Más de la mitad de las especies se conocen solo de la localidad tipo y seis de ellas no han sido colectadas en más de 100 años. Se redescubrieron especies como Lopezia conjugens y Croton ortegae que no habían sido colectadas en más de 100 y 70 años, respectivamente. Ebenopsis caesalpinioides, Stenocereus martinezii y Aloysia nahuire fueron clasificadas como especies prioritarias por su alto valor biocultural. Conclusiones: Las plantas endémicas de Sinaloa tienen alta diversidad taxonómica y valor cultural. El presente trabajo identificó especies y sitios prioritarios de conservación, especies de importancia biocultural, las mayores necesidades de colecta y las especies potencialmente extintas.

Si se asume que la ausencia de las personas desaparecidas es causada exclusivamente por las conductas tipificadas como delitos en la Ley General de Desaparición, a priori se excluyen hipótesis de localización relevantes, incluidas aquellas sobre personas cuya ausencia no está vinculada con la comisión de ningún delito, aunque sí pueden ser ocasionadas por violencias estructurales. Desde la Comisión Nacional de Búsqueda de Personas se presenta la metodología de búsqueda generalizada de datos, que parte de la comprensión de las rutas institucionales de disposición de cadáveres reconstruidas a partir de la tafonomía social. Mediante la aplicación de esta metodología al caso de estudio es que se propone un nuevo concepto llamado desaparición administrativa.

The mechanical performance of protective coatings is crucial in daily industrial environments, with transition metal nitrides being among the most commonly used hard coatings for machining tool protection. However, determining their elastoplastic properties via conventional methods can be challenging due to the thickness‐dependent response of film/substrate systems. In this study, we utilised two sputtering Ti‐Al‐N films as a model hard thin film/soft substrate system to showcase an alternative methodology to the Oliver and Pharr method. This alternative approach involves determining Young's modulus, yield stress and hardness through indentation stress–strain curves obtained from nanoindentation tests, effectively decreasing the substrate's contribution. This decrease was corroborated by finite element simulations conducted on films with thickness below 1.0 μm. The elastoplastic properties determined using our methodology fell within the range reported for typical Ti‐Al‐N films. Furthermore, by applying our methodology, we were able to correlate and discuss the observed differences in mechanical behaviour between the two films based solely on their microstructural, compositional and morphological properties. Thus, we have demonstrated a viable alternative methodology to address substrate contribution challenges in the mechanical characterisation of thin film/substrate systems when employing an indenter with a large radius of curvature (~650 nm).
