Improved urban greenhouse gas (GHG) flux estimates are crucial for informing policy and mitigation efforts. Atmospheric inversion modeling (AIM) is a widely used technique combining atmospheric measurements of trace gas, meteorological modeling, and a prior emission map to infer fluxes. Traditionally, AIM relies on mid‐afternoon observations due to the well‐represented atmospheric boundary layer in meteorological models. However, confining flux assessment to daytime observations is problematic for the urban scale, where air masses typically move over a city in a few hours and AIM therefore cannot provide improved constraints on emissions over the full diurnal cycle. We hypothesized that there are atmospheric conditions beyond the mid‐afternoon under which meteorological models also perform well. We tested this hypothesis using tower‐based measurements of CO2 and CH4, wind speed observations, weather model outputs from INFLUX (Indianapolis Flux Experiment), and a prior emissions map. By categorizing trace gas vertical gradients according to wind speed classes and identifying when the meteorological model satisfactorily simulates boundary layer depth (BLD), we found that non‐afternoon observations can be assimilated when wind speed is >5 m/s. This condition resulted in small modeled BLD biases (<40%) when compared to calmer conditions (>100%). For Indianapolis, 37% of the GHG measurements meet this wind speed criterion, almost tripling the observations retained for AIM. Similar results are expected for windy cities like Auckland, Melbourne, and Boston, potentially allowing AIM to assimilate up to 60% of the total (24‐hr) observations. Incorporating these observations in AIMs should yield a more diurnally comprehensive evaluation of urban GHG emissions. Plain Language Summary: It is crucial to improve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission estimates to inform policy and mitigation strategies. However, the current model techniques used to estimate such emissions rely on incorporating only mid‐afternoon observations of atmospheric concentrations of GHGs. For cities, this limits a detailed understanding of emissions during hours of the day when emissions are the highest, such as the morning rush hours. This constraint is due to the limitations on how well meteorological models can describe the atmosphere during stable conditions, such as when calm winds prevail. To understand if there are any atmospheric conditions when meteorological models have good performance, for non‐afternoon hours, we used atmospheric measurements of carbon dioxide and methane, alongside meteorological model outputs. We found that observations during non‐afternoon hours are suitable for use in models when wind speed is greater than 5 m/s. This means that it is possible to double the amount of data that goes into the modeled GHG emission estimates. With this finding, emission estimates will potentially be improved, leading to a better evaluation of the diurnal cycle of GHG emissions. Key Points: Assimilating non‐afternoon greenhouse gas (GHG) observations in atmospheric inversions is reliable when wind speeds are greater than 5 m/sInclusion of non‐afternoon atmospheric observations during windy conditions doubles the current data assimilation in atmospheric inversionsAdditional observations in atmospheric inversions have the potential to improve GHG emissions estimates [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: The role of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is not fully elucidated. Therefore, we aimed to investigate in COVID-19 patients with moderate-to-severe ARDS the impact of early use of NMBAs on 90-day mortality, through propensity score (PS) matching analysis. Methods: We analyzed a convenience sample of patients with COVID-19 and moderate-to-severe ARDS, admitted to 244 intensive care units within the COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium, from February 1, 2020, through October 31, 2021. Patients undergoing at least 2 days and up to 3 consecutive days of NMBAs (NMBA treatment), within 48 h from commencement of IMV were compared with subjects who did not receive NMBAs or only upon commencement of IMV (control). The primary objective in the PS-matched cohort was comparison between groups in 90-day in-hospital mortality, assessed through Cox proportional hazard modeling. Secondary objectives were comparisons in the numbers of ventilator-free days (VFD) between day 1 and day 28 and between day 1 and 90 through competing risk regression. Results: Data from 1953 patients were included. After propensity score matching, 210 cases from each group were well matched. In the PS-matched cohort, mean (± SD) age was 60.3 ± 13.2 years and 296 (70.5%) were male and the most common comorbidities were hypertension (56.9%), obesity (41.1%), and diabetes (30.0%). The unadjusted hazard ratio (HR) for death at 90 days in the NMBA treatment vs control group was 1.12 (95% CI 0.79, 1.59, p = 0.534). After adjustment for smoking habit and critical therapeutic covariates, the HR was 1.07 (95% CI 0.72, 1.61, p = 0.729). At 28 days, VFD were 16 (IQR 0–25) and 25 (IQR 7–26) in the NMBA treatment and control groups, respectively (sub-hazard ratio 0.82, 95% CI 0.67, 1.00, p = 0.055). At 90 days, VFD were 77 (IQR 0–87) and 87 (IQR 0–88) (sub-hazard ratio 0.86 (95% CI 0.69, 1.07; p =

- Abstract

Background The role of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is not fully elucidated. Therefore, we aimed to investigate in COVID-19 patients with moderate-to-severe ARDS the impact of early use of NMBAs on 90-day mortality, through propensity score (PS) matching analysis. Methods We analyzed a convenience sample of patients with COVID-19 and moderate-to-severe ARDS, admitted to 244 intensive care units within the COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium, from February 1, 2020, through October 31, 2021. Results Data from 1953 patients were included. At 90 days, VFD were 77 (IQR 0–87) and 87 (IQR 0–88) (sub-hazard ratio 0.86 (95% CI 0.69, 1.07; p = 0.177). Conclusions In patients with COVID-19 and moderate-to-severe ARDS, short course of NMBA treatment, applied early, did not significantly improve 90-day mortality and VFD. In the absence of definitive data from clinical trials, NMBAs should be indicated cautiously in this setting.

The success of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivation and its adaptation to cropping systems relies on the knowledge and utilization of existing variability in germplasm banks. The objective of this work was to analyse diversity among pre-selected barley accessions to organize a working collection and to identify genotypes for a breeding program for irrigated barley in the Brazilian Savannah. The field experiment was conducted under irrigation in Planaltina, DF, Brazil. The plant population consisted of 433 accessions plus BRS 180 and BRS 195 as checks. The accessions were evaluated using fifteen morpho agronomic descriptors, in which 11 quantitative and four discrete. The interpolated control design was used for the statistical analysis. A genetic distance matrix was calculated using Gower?s coefficient. From the matrix, a grouping analysis was conducted, using the optimizing Tocher method and the graphic dispersion distance. The genetic distances varied between 0.025 and 0.572, with a mean of 0.256. The accessions were distributed in 18 groups by the Tocher method, which was directly related to the graphic dispersion. The existing genetic divergence in the collection under study helped the definition of accessions in crossing blocks from breeding programs directed to the savannah environment. An approach is presented for studying the mechanical behavior of soft biological tissue using the finite‐element method and a general constitutive model. The overall computational approach is used for the analysis of the mechanical behavior of the urinary bladder. Bladder tissue is modeled as a composite material formed by a soft matrix reinforced with preferentially oriented fibers. A procedure for identifying the mechanical properties of the main constituents of the bladder tissue by an inverse method is detailed. The mechanical parameters are used for the numerical simulation of the mechanical behavior of the bladder during filling within the finite‐element method.

Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology - Abstract
Municipal solid waste (MSW) settlement can be understood as volume reduction of the waste mass disposed in a landfill. Such phenomenon is mainly the result of organic matter degradation. Settlement can also be generated by MSW distortions, particle rearrengements, and other factors. These factors can be accurately analyzed if studied in an MSW experimental cell once it simulates the landfill behavior in a known and controlled way. This study aims to analyze the behavior of an experimental cell filled with MSW and how the biodegradation can influence the settlement over time and depth. The methodology was composed of waste sampling, experimental cell construction and filling, volatile solids analysis, and settlement measurements. The MSW gravimetric and volumetric analyses were performed in order to quantify the amount of organic matter contained inside the experimental cell. The tests indicated that the amount of organic matter drastically decreased in all MSW layers, and settlement varied according to the depth of the experimental cell due to mechanical factors and organic matter consumption.

Made available in DSpace on 2019-05-28T00:35:26Z (GMT). The Next Generation Network (NGN) vision is tending towards the convergence of internet and mobile services providing the impetus for new market opportunities in combining the appealing services of internet with the roaming capability of mobile networks. However, this convergence does not go far enough, and with the emergence of new coexistence scenarios, there is a clear need to evolve the current architecture to provide cost-effective end-to-end communication. The LOOP project, a EUREKA-CELTIC driven initiative, is one piece in the jigsaw by helping European industry to sustain a leading role in telecommunications and manufacturing of high-value products and machinery by delivering pioneering converged wireless networking solutions that can be successfully demonstrated. This paper provides an overview of the LOOP project and the key achievements that have been tunneled into first prototypes for showcasing next generation services for operators and process manufacturers.

International audience; The status of marine biodiversity in the Eastern Central Atlantic (ECA), especially of coastal and pelagic fishes, is of concern owing to a number of threats including overharvesting, habitat loss, pollution, and climate change combined with inadequate policy responses, legislation, and enforcement. This study provides the first comprehensive documentation of the presence, status, and level of extinction risk, based on IUCN Red List assessment methodology, for more than 1800 marine species, including all taxonomically described marine vertebrates (marine mammals, sea turtles, seabirds, fishes); complete clades of selected marine invertebrates (sea cucumbers, cone snails, cephalopods, lobsters, reef-building corals); and marine plants (mangroves, seagrasses). Approximately 8% of all marine species assessed in the ECA are in threatened categories, while 4% are listed as Near Threatened, 73% are Least Concern, and 15% are Data Deficient. Fisheries and overharvesting are the biggest threats to living marine resources in the ECA, with 87% of threatened species across all taxonomic groups affected by both large- and small-scale targeted fisheries, excessive capture as by-catch, or unsustainable harvest. The results of this study will transform the current state of knowledge and increase capacity for regional stakeholders to identify and enact marine conservation and research priorities, as a number of species are identified as having high conservation and/or research priorities in the region. Through the process of marine species data collection and risk assessments conducted over the past 5 years, several key conservation actions and research needs are identified to enable more effective conservation of marine biodiversity in the ECA, including increased governance, multilateral collaboration, taxonomic training, and improved reporting of fisheries catch and effort.

Carpooling ,Activities ,Trajectories - Abstract
The interest in carpooling is increasing due to the need to reduce traffic and noise pollution. Most of the available approaches and systems are route oriented, where driver and passeggers are matched when the destination location is the same. ComeWithMe offers a new perspective: the destination is the intended activity instead of a location. This novel matching method is aimed to boost the possibilities of rides if passenger reaches a different location maintaining the activity. We conducted experiments using a real data set of trajectories and our results showed that the proposed matching algorithm improved the traditional carpooling approach in more than 80.0%.
