2. Simultaneous quantification and changepoint detection of point source gas emissions using recursive Bayesian inference

Abstract

Recent findings suggest that abnormal operating conditions of equipment in the oil and gas supply chain represent a large fraction of anthropogenic methane emissions. Thus, effective mitigation of emissions necessitates rapid identification and repair of sources caused by faulty equipment. In addition to advances in sensing technology that allow for more frequent surveillance, prompt and cost-effective identification of sources requires computational frameworks that provide automatic fault detection. Here, we present a changepoint detection algorithm based on a recursive Bayesian scheme that allows for simultaneous emission rate estimation and fault detection. The proposed algorithm is tested on a series of near-field controlled release mobile experiments, with promising results demonstrating successful detection (>90% success rate) of changes in the leak rate when the emission rate is tripled after an abrupt change. Moreover, we show that the statistics of the measurements, such as the coefficient of variation and range are good predictors of the performance of the algorithm. Finally, we describe how this methodology can be easily adapted to suit time-averaged concentration data measured by stationary sensors, thus showcasing its flexibility.

Abstract

Purpose : Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify the dimensions and consequences of Social Responsibility (SR) of the Iran Sports for All Federation (ISF). Methods: This research was conducted by adopting a qualitative approach based on the thematic analysis method. The research was conducted using semi-structured interviews with experts and specialists in the field of SR and Sports for all in Iran. The interview’s participants included 13 managers, trainers, and staffs, officials of the ISF, and university faculty members who were selected by purposive sampling. Thematic analysis method was used to extract basic, organizing and global themes. Results: Based on the analysis, 102 basic themes, 17 organizing themes, and eight global themes were extracted. Global theme included “humanitarian responsibility”, “environmental responsibility”, “legal responsibility”, “moral responsibility”, “economic responsibility”, “loyalty”, “quality of services”, and “behavioral intentions”. This research shows the consequences of SR that can affect the behaviors and attitudes of customers in the ISF. Conclusion: The research emphasizes the importance of the environmental aspect in SR, emphasizing the promotion of environmental education, sustainable development, and green management. Abstract

Background Data suggest selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT) in third-line or subsequent therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer has clinical benefit in patients with colorectal liver metastases with liver-dominant disease after chemotherapy. The FOXFIRE, SIRFLOX, and FOXFIRE-Global randomised studies evaluated the efficacy of combining first-line chemotherapy with SIRT using yttrium-90 resin microspheres in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer with liver metastases. The studies were designed for combined analysis of overall survival. Methods FOXFIRE, SIRFLOX, and FOXFIRE-Global were randomised, phase 3 trials done in hospitals and specialist liver centres in 14 countries worldwide (Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, South Korea, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA). Chemotherapy-naive patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (WHO performance status 0 or 1) with liver metastases not suitable for curative resection or ablation were randomly assigned (1: 1) to either oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy (FOLFOX: leucovorin, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin) or FOLFOX plus single treatment SIRT concurrent with cycle 1 or 2 of chemotherapy. In FOXFIRE, FOLFOX chemotherapy was OxMdG (oxaliplatin modified de Gramont chemotherapy; 85 mg/m(2) oxaliplatin infusion over 2 h, L-leucovorin 175 mg or D,L-leucovorin 350 mg infusion over 2 h, and 400 mg/m(2) bolus fluorouracil followed by a 2400 mg/m(2) continuous fluorouracil infusion over 46 h). In SIRFLOX and FOXFIRE-Global, FOLFOX chemotherapy was modified FOLFOX6 (85 mg/m(2) oxaliplatin infusion over 2 h, 200 mg leucovorin, and 400 mg/m(2) bolus fluorouracil followed by a 2400 mg/m(2) continuous fluorouracil infusion over 46 h). Randomisation was done by central minimisation with four factors: presence of extrahepatic metastases, tumour involvement of the liver, planned use of a biological agent, and investigational centre. Participants and investigators were not masked to treatment. The primary endpoint was overall survival, analysed in the intention-to-treat population, using a two-stage meta-analysis of pooled individual patient data. All three trials have completed 2 years of follow-up. FOXFIRE is registered with the ISRCTN registry, number ISRCTN83867919. SIRFLOX and FOXFIRE-Global are registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, numbers NCT00724503 (SIRFLOX) and NCT01721954 (FOXFIRE-Global). Findings Between Oct 11, 2006, and Dec 23, 2014, 549 patients were randomly assigned to FOLFOX alone and 554 patients were assigned FOLFOX plus SIRT. Median follow-up was 43.3 months (IQR 31.6-58.4). There were 411 (75%) deaths in 549 patients in the FOLFOX alone group and 433 (78%) deaths in 554 patients in the FOLFOX plus SIRT group. There was no difference in overall survival (hazard ratio [HR] 1.04, 95% CI 0.90-1.19; p=0.61). The median survival time in the FOLFOX plus SIRT group was 22.6 months (95% CI 21.0-24.5) compared with 23.3 months (21.8-24.7) in the FOLFOX alone group. In the safety population containing patients who received at least one dose of study treatment, as treated, the most common grade 3-4 adverse event was neutropenia (137 [24%] of 571 patients receiving FOLFOX alone vs 186 (37%) of 507 patients receiving FOLFOX plus SIRT). Serious adverse events of any grade occurred in 244 (43%) of 571 patients receiving FOLFOX alone and 274 (54%) of 507 patients receiving FOLFOX plus SIRT. 10 patients in the FOLFOX plus SIRT group and 11 patients in the FOLFOX alone group died due to an adverse event; eight treatment-related deaths occurred in the FOLFOX plus SIRT group and three treatment-related deaths occurred in the FOLFOX alone group. Interpretation Addition of SIRT to first-line FOLFOX chemotherapy for patients with liver-only and liver-dominant metastatic colorectal cancer did not improve overall survival compared with that for FOLFOX alone. Therefore, early use of SIRT in combination with chemotherapy in unselected patients with metastatic colorectal cancer cannot be recommended. To further define the role of SIRT in metastatic colorectal cancer, careful patient selection and studies investigating the role of SIRT as consolidation therapy after chemotherapy are needed. Abstract

This study aimed to empirically develop a reliable and valid model specifically for measuring service quality of sport conferences as sport event tourism. To assess the model which has been established based on the survey, data gathered from 136 of attendees in sport conference. Finding of this study showed that participants form their service quality perceptions based on their evaluations of 4 primary dimensions including: venue quality, conference quality, access quality and trip quality. Total variance of these dimensions explained %53.82 variance of services quality. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that each of the four factors influence on the services quality, and the fit indices confirmed the conceptual model that presented in this study (Chi-Square=85.456, df=23, P=0.001, RMSEA=0.142). As a result, it is recommended to conference organizer and tourism managers, to considering these factors next to each other in order to increase and improve the service quality. Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the organizational behavior of employees (as expressed by organizational and occupational commitment) in physical education offices at Iranian Universities. The sample that was used included 82 employees from 20 Universities in 5 geographic regions of Iran. The research Instruments were the "Organizational and Occupational Commitment Questionnaires" (Allen & Meyer, 1997) comprised 18 items (3 subscales of Affective, Normative and Continuance). The reliability of Organizational Commitment Questionnaire and Occupational Commitment Questionnaire were α = .83 and .82 respectively. The result showed that the average of organizational commitment and occupational commitment was 3.59±.519 and 3.64±.513 respectively. Also, there was a significant and positive correlation between organizational and occupational commitment (r=0.72, p=.001).There was a significant difference in occupational commitment with regard to level of education (F (3, 77) =3.343, p=.023), But there was no significant difference in organizational commitment and occupational commitment with regard to gender, years of service and employment status. Because of the existence of a positive and meaningful relationship between organizational commitment and occupational commitment, it was advised to the managers of physical education offices to attend seriously to their organizational commitment and its subscales for fast achievement to the organization's aims. 38. Adjuvant chemotherapy for rectal cancer: Is it needed?

Abstract

Adjuvant chemotherapy has become a standard treatment of advanced rectal cancer in the West. The benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery alone have been well established. However, controversy surrounds the use adjuvant chemotherapy in patients who received preoperative chemoradiotherapy, despite it being recommended by a number of international guidelines. Results of recent multicentre randomised control trials showed no benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy in terms of survival and rates of distant metastases. However, concerns exist regarding the quality of the studies including inadequate staging modalities, out-dated chemotherapeutic regimens and surgical approaches and small sample sizes. It has become evident that not all the patients respond to adjuvant chemotherapy and more personalised approach should be employed when considering the benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy. The present review discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the current evidence-base and suggests improvements for future studies.
