Başarılı bir ikna edici konuşmada fikirlerin ve argümanların organize edilerek konuşma metninin yapılandırıldığı hazırlık aşaması büyük önem taşır. Öğrenciler konuşmaya karşı istekli olsalar dahi hazırlık aşamasında uygun strateji ve tekniği belirlemede zorlanabilmektedir. MÖ. 4. yüzyıldan beri üzerinde yoğun ve sistematik bir şekilde çalışılmış, çeşitli kuram ve modellerle zenginleştirilmiş bir alan olarak ikna, ikna edici dil becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik etkinliklerde strateji ve tekniklerden yararlanmak adına oldukça geniş bir alan sunmaktadır. Alan Monroe tarafından geliştirilmiş Monroe’nun Motive Edilmiş Dizisi sırasıyla dikkat, ihtiyaç, tatmin, görselleştirme ve eylem adımlarını içeren ikna tekniklerinden biridir. Çalışmada Dizi konuşma eğitimi kapsamında ele alınmış, öğrencilerin ikna edici konuşma çalışmalarında rehber olarak kullanabilecekleri bir konuşma taslağına ve taslağın kullanımını içeren etkinlik örneklerine yer verilmiştir. Çalışmanın verileri doküman incelemesi yoluyla elde edilmiştir. Alan yazından elde edilen bulgular bu tekniğin kullanılmasıyla öğrencilerin konuşma kaygısının azaldığını, etkinliklere katılımlarının ve konuşma performanslarının arttığını göstermektedir. Teknik, yapısı gereği eleştirel dinleme ve ikna edici yazma kapsamında da ele alınabileceği gibi problem çözme, yaratıcı ve eleştirel düşünme gibi becerilerin geliştirilmesinde de yararlanılabilecek niteliktedir.

Abstract

This edited collection arrives at a crucial moment in the evolution of Writing Studies research. It brings together well-known and emerging scholars in the field of Writing Studies, broadly defined, to explore the range of research methods and methodologies, the types of research questions asked, and the types of data in play in research about higher education writing in the 21st century. Its contribution is unique in the current landscape—a collection of carefully detailed descriptions of the research methods that constitute the field today, after fifty years of development—as marked by the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Dartmouth Seminar. The chapters focus on writing and writers in higher education, foregrounding research questions, methods, and data, while defining the areas of research that constitute this interdisciplinary field and offering examples of studies that employ the methods in these areas. Initial chapters address broad questions: the state of the field today, with a special focus on the field’s methods and their (inter)disciplinary history. Contributions then cover domains such as sociological ethnography, cultural-historical activity theory, linguistics, decolonial translation, cognitive science, corpus linguistics in the study of writing in university first year and upper-level contexts, recurring features in writing across academic contexts, work from psychologists studying college writers’ neuroplasticity, and many other domains of writing research. The final chapter argues for the value of lifespan writing research as an emerging domain, while the conclusion presents a synthesis of the major themes of the collection from leading scholars in the field.

18. Bluegrass: A Unique Synthesis of Musical and Extra-musical Concerns

Abstract

Bluegrass has simultaneously been recognized as an archaic folk music and a living, popular art form. Although what was to be later named “bluegrass” is played no earlier than 1939, the genre has been associated with archaic and romanticized symbols such as the banjo and fiddle. Bluegrass performers have also been given the responsibility of continuing past American traditions regardless of its lack of temporal connections to past tradition. Yet, if one thinks of bluegrass as a popular music designed for the evolving marketplace, it would seem to be in the bluegrass musician’s best interest to only allude to these romantic symbols when it is economically beneficial. The bluegrass musician then seems to be in a constant negation between historical weight and commercial pressures. The first person to confront this tension and to develop a definitive strategy was Bill Monroe. Monroe’s extra-musical commercial strategies can be seen as connected to and inspired by the commercial strategies of record and radio industry leaders such as Ralph Peer and George D. Hay. This accounts for wanting to replicate Monroe’s commercial success, but it does not account for why people continue to adhere so strictly to his sound. This dedication to fidelity was inspired by the folk movement of the 1960s which saw folk music as a following of a societal ideal rather than the strict replication of songs. In emphasizing this, and Monroe’s dedication to his own synthesis which they took for timeless American folk music, it became expected of bluegrass musicians to continue his lineage. Instead of bemoaning this aspect, this paper hopes to illuminate how bluegrass, due to its connections with both popular music industries and the folk movement, should advertise itself as a unique musical genre with a novel extra-musical dimension.

Through in vitro assays and in-silico target fishing and docking studies, they identified 35 compounds with antiproliferative activities against skin cancer cell lines. The two most potent compounds induced apoptosis in the cancer cells and reduced wound healing and colony formation. Abstract

A pretty brown-haired starlet from 1952 to 1956, Brigitte Bardot emerged as a global star and sex symbol with hair newly bleached in Roger Vadim’sEt Dieu … créa la femme/And God Created Woman(1956). This article focuses on the importance of blondness to Bardot’s stardom in post-war France, and how its modernity affected her cultural standing and national identity as well as the aesthetics of her films. After a close look at the significance of Bardot’s hair inEt Dieu … créa la femme, the article examines the wider context of post-war France in terms of changes in both hair fashions and stardom. It then moves on to explore the implications of her striking, voluminous hairstyles, and how these functioned as a ‘signature’ both in and out of her films.
