In Rio Grande do Sul (RS), since 2010, the Agricultural Family Schools (EFA) have been undergoing an expansion process. There are four schools in this settings at the state, linked to the precepts of Rural Education and the Alternancy Pedagogy. The objective of this work is to describe the historical trajectory of Rural Education, the Alternancy Pedagogy and the relevant legislation in RS. Furthermore, it intends to evaluate its influence in the process of expansion and organization of EFA. The research was carried out in two stages: the exploratory study and the field research. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with the EFA’s pedagogical coordinators and monitors. The results demonstrate that successful experiences with the Alternancy Pedagogy are directly related to the participation of the community and rural social movements. It was possible to understand that in RS the specific legislation also benefited the process of increasing the number of EFA through joint actions with the State Committee for Rural Education.

Reaction systems (RSs) are a computational framework inspired by biochemical mechanisms. A RS defines a finite set of reactions over a finite set of entities. Typically each reaction has a local scope, because it is concerned with a small set of entities, but complex models can involve a large number of reactions and entities, and their computation can manifest unforeseen emerging behaviours. When a deviation is detected, like the unexpected production of some entities, it is often difficult to establish its causes, e.g., which entities were directly responsible or if some reaction was misconceived. Slicing is a well-known technique for debugging, which can point out the program lines containing the faulty code. In this paper, we define the first dynamic slicer for RSs and show that it can help to detect the causes of erroneous behaviour and highlight the involved reactions for a closer inspection. To fully automate the debugging process, we propose to distil monitors for starting the slicing whenever a violation from a safety specification is detected. We have integrated our slicer in BioResolve, written in Prolog which provides many useful features for the formal analysis of RSs. We define the slicing algorithm for basic RSs and then enhance it for dealing with quantitative extensions of RSs, where timed processes and linear processes can be represented. The heart rate variability-derived Newborn Infant Parasympathetic Evaluation (NIPE) monitor has been designed to be an objective, non-invasive tool for the assessment of pain and discomfort in children under 2 years of age. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the ability of NIPE to assess pain in neonates and infants during surgical and/or painful procedures. A systematic review (2010–2023) was conducted using PRISMA guidelines. Studies containing children above 2-years-old were excluded. The ROBINS-I (Risk of Bias in Non-randomised Studies of Interventions) tool was used to assess the quality of included studies. 9 databases were searched identifying 470 articles, 460 did not meet the inclusion criteria and were excluded; therefore, 10 studies with 548 participants were included. NIPE was used to assess intraoperative and postoperative pain for surgery under general anaesthesia (5 studies), as well as acute and prolonged pain from other interventional procedures (5 studies). For surgery under general anaesthesia: NIPE has shown to detect nociceptive events (e.g., skin incision, intubation), insufficient analgesia intraoperatively and to predict early postoperative pain. For painful interventional procedures: NIPE has shown to detect acute pain with a high sensitivity and negative predictive value. NIPE has been used to assess pain in surgery and for various painful procedures. NIPE can detect intraoperative pain and reflect early postoperative pain. NIPE may be useful in evaluating procedural pain, however with heterogenous outcomes, more studies are required to confirm its efficacy. Systematic Review. Introduction: Due to less than favorable conditions in low and low-middle-income countries, surgeons have had to carefully craft improvised devices to try and mimic the functionality and level of innovation in the developed countries. In this review, we sought to examine the existing literature to review the alternative ways by which intracranial pressure is measured when standard devices are inaccessible. Furthermore, we aimed to see how these devices are made and how much they cost. Methodology: The PRISMA extension for scoping reviews was utilized. Databases and Grey Literature (PubMed, Google Scholar, and AJOL) were searched extensively, and papers reporting on the use of improvised intracranial pressure monitoring were included. The devices were grouped into two setups and described extensively. The cost of the devices was also estimated. We extracted the relevant information after identifying the papers that would be used in our review study. Results: 3 papers satisfied our eligibility criteria and were used in the review. Two setups were discussed. The first setup involved the use of a makeshift device made up of a size 6 feeding tube/soft silicon catheter, a central venous pressure manometer and sterile 0.9% saline as the coupling agent, while the second setup involved the use of a size 8 feeding tube, a pressure line extension, dome, transducer, and monitor. Both devices cost less than USD 20, a price far cheaper than the standard ICP devices quoted at about USD 800. Conclusion: Our review posits that these makeshift devices have certain advantages and may be useful in the rural and less developed parts of the world. It also serves as an area for intervention, especially in the context of global neurosurgery.

Studies on air quality in rural environments are fundamental to obtain first-hand data for the determination of base emissions of air pollutants, to assess the impact of rural-specific airborne pollutants, to model pollutant dispersion, and to develop proper pollution mitigation technologies. The literature lacks a systematic review based on the evaluation of the techniques and methods used for the sampling/monitoring (S/M) of atmospheric pollutants in rural and agricultural settings, which highlights the shortcomings in this field and the need for future studies. This work aims to review the study design applied for on-field monitoring campaigns of airborne pollutants in rural environments and discuss the possible needs and future developments in this field. The results of this literature review, based on the revision of 23 scientific papers, allowed us to determine (i) the basic characteristics related to the study design that should always be reported; (ii) the main techniques and analyses used in exposure assessment studies conducted in this type of setting; and (iii) contextual parameters and descriptors of the S/M site that should be considered to best support the results obtained from the different studies. Future studies carried out to monitor the airborne pollution in rural/agriculture areas should (i) include the use of multiparametric monitors for the contextual measurement of different atmospheric pollutants (as well as meteorological parameters) and (ii) consider the most important boundary information, to better characterize the S/M site. At the heart of refuge in Switzerland during the Second World War, a singular training experience was set up in Geneva in order to train a complete educational staff in charge of children placed in homes in that country but also in the rest of Europe. In November 1944, an "International Course for Monitors of Homes for Child Victims of War" was inaugurated, in which the pupils would follow a six-month session of teaching, mainly in pedagogy and psychology, as well as practical exercises in real-life situations. Half of the students on the course came from Swiss internment camps and the other half were Swiss nationals, with the same proportion during the second session, which began in the spring of 1945. This article traces the history of the beginnings of the Monitors' Course through the careers of the pupils of the first two classes, mainly through the individual records kept in the Federal Archives in Bern of monitors who had been in Switzerland since 1942. The idea for this course was first conceived in Geneva's educational circles from the Institute of Educational Sciences (formerly the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Institute) accompanied by several educators who had found refuge in Switzerland. The result is a model of future international education, including the profile of these future actors in reconstruction. The project resulted in the use of all available manpower through students who would come from the country's internment camps. Freed for a time from their internment status, these young women and men all came out of the mass refuge, having fled persecution because they were Jews, and arrived in Switzerland between the summer of 1942 and the spring of 1944. Far from being merely an opportunity to escape from the logic of confinement and the constraint of placements, sometimes experienced even before the war, entry into the course was for many the result of joining networks and collectives that were gradually being formed, particularly within the humanitarian organisations which looked after these refugees. The files also make it possible to evaluate the place of the Monitors' Course in the individual trajectories of the students. Although few had previously had educational experience with children, except for having themselves been children rescued from homes, some of them continued in this way after leaving the course, exporting their skills acquired in their country or their country of emigration, thus contributing to the significant movement in the field of education in the post-war period. Background: Optimal organ perfusion at the time of pediatric renal transplantation is a commonly agreed upon goal. Intraoperative conditions such as fluid balance and arterial pressure determine the success of this goal. Sparse literature guides the anesthesiologist in accomplishing this. We, therefore, hypothesized that significant variability exists in the methods used to optimize renal perfusion during transplantation. Methods: A literature search was performed to assess what guidelines currently exist to optimize intraoperative renal perfusion. The intraoperative practice pathways of six large children's hospitals in North America were obtained to compare suggested guidelines. A retrospective chart review of anesthesia records was performed of all pediatric renal transplants over 7 years at the University of North Carolina. Results: There did not appear to be agreement between the various publications in terms of standard intraoperative monitoring, specific blood pressure or central venous pressure goals, and fluid management. The practice pathways of six children's hospitals showed significant variation and lack of a consensus‐driven approach. The chart review demonstrated significant variation between anesthesiologists in terms of invasive monitoring, fluid management, hemodynamic goals, vasopressor use, and analgesic choices. However, children <30 kg were significantly more likely to have arterial lines and epidural catheters placed prior to surgery. Conclusion: Significant variation exists across centers of expertise and even within centers of expertise with regard to the intraoperative management of pediatric kidney transplant recipients. In the era of enhanced recovery after surgery, this presents an opportunity to develop consensus on an evidence‐based approach to optimize initial organ perfusion during surgery. Low-cost particulate matter (PM) sensors provide new methods for monitoring occupational exposure to hazardous substances, such as flour dust. These devices have many possible benefits, but much remains unknown about their performance for different exposure monitoring strategies in the workplace. We explored the performance of PM sensors for four different monitoring strategies (time-weighted average and high time resolution, each quantitative and semi-quantitative) for assessing occupational exposure using low-cost PM sensors in a field study in the industrial bakery sector. Measurements were collected using four types of sensor (PATS+, Isensit, Airbeam2, and Munisense) and two reference devices (respirable gravimetric samplers and an established time-resolved device) at two large-scale bakeries, spread over 11 participants and 6 measurement days. Average PM2.5 concentrations of the low-cost sensors were compared with gravimetric respirable concentrations for 8-h shift periods and 1-min PM2.5 concentrations of the low-cost sensors were compared with time-resolved PM2.5 data from the reference device (quantitative monitoring strategy). Low-cost sensors were also ranked in terms of exposure for 8-h shifts and for 15-min periods with a shift (semi-quantitative monitoring strategy). Environmental factors and methodological variables, which can affect sensor performance, were investigated. Semi-quantitative monitoring strategies only showed more accurate results compared with quantitative strategies when these were based on shift-average exposures. The main factors that influenced sensor performance were the type of placement (positioning the devices stationary versus personal) and the company or workstation where measurements were collected. Together, these findings provide an overview of common strengths and drawbacks of low-cost sensors and different ways these can be applied in the workplace. Pain assessment is essential for the administration of appropriate analgesia. Currently, clinicians use surrogate methods, such as heart rate or behavioural pain scales, to estimate pain in neonates and infants. The Newborn and Infant Parasympathetic Evaluation (NIPE™) monitor aims to provide an objective numeric value (NIPE index) of pain through a continuous assessment of the patient's parasympathetic activity. The aim of this study was to determine if the intraoperative NIPE index monitoring could predict postoperative pain in neonates and infants. This prospective observational pilot study included neonates and infants undergoing elective day-surgical procedures (n = 50). Intraoperatively, NIPE indices at 0 (NIPE 0), 10 (NIPE 10), 20 (NIPE 20), 30 (NIPE 30) minutes and at completion of surgery (NIPEe), were recorded; the median NIPE index (NIPEm) was calculated for the entire procedure. Postoperative Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) scale scores were calculated by the nursing staff blinded to the intraoperative NIPE indices. Linear regression documented an association between the NIPEm and postoperative FLACC score at 0 (r = 0.31, p = 0.03) and 10 min (r = 0.36, p = 0.01). No significant associations were observed for FLACC scores at 20 (r = 0.21, p = 0.2) and 30 min (r = 0.36, p > 0.9). Multiple regression analysis revealed that intraoperative NIPE 10 , NIPE 20 , NIPE 30 and NIPEe also predicted the FLACC score at 0 min (p = 0.003). The intraoperative NIPE index is predictive of pain in the immediate postoperative period. This association was lost at 20 min likely due to nursing intervention to administer analgesia. Lung transplantation is the definitive end-stage treatment for many lung diseases, and postoperative pulmonary oedema severely affects survival after lung transplantation. Optimizing perioperative fluid management can reduce the incidence of postoperative pulmonary oedema and improve the prognosis of lung transplant patients by removing the influence of patient, donor’s lung and ECMO factors. Therefore, this article reviews seven aspects of lung transplant patients' pathophysiological characteristics, physiological characteristics of fluids, the influence of the donor lung on pulmonary oedema as well as current fluid rehydration concepts, advantages or disadvantages of intraoperative monitoring tools or types of fluids on postoperative pulmonary oedema, while showing the existing challenges in section 7. The aim is to show the specificity of perioperative fluid management in lung transplant patients and to provide new ideas for individualised fluid management in lung transplantation.

Current laboratory-based setups (optical marker cameras + force plates) for human motion measurement require participants to stay in a constrained capture region which forbids rich movement types. This study established a fully wearable system, based on commercially available sensors (inertial measurement units + pressure insoles), that can measure both kinematic and kinetic motion data simultaneously and support wireless frame-by-frame streaming. In addition, its capability and accuracy were tested against a conventional laboratory-based setup. An experiment was conducted, with 9 participants wearing the wearable measurement system and performing 13 daily motion activities, from slow walking to fast running, together with vertical jump, squat, lunge, and single-leg landing, inside the capture space of the laboratory-based motion capture system. The recorded sensor data were post-processed to obtain joint angles, ground reaction forces (GRFs), and joint torques (via multi-body inverse dynamics). Compared to the laboratory-based system, the established wearable measurement system can measure accurate information of all lower limb joint angles (Pearson’s r = 0.929), vertical GRFs (Pearson’s r = 0.954), and ankle joint torques (Pearson’s r = 0.917). Center of pressure (CoP) in the anterior–posterior direction and knee joint torques were fairly matched (Pearson’s r = 0.683 and 0.612, respectively). Calculated hip joint torques and measured medial–lateral CoP did not match with the laboratory-based system (Pearson’s r = 0.21 and 0.47, respectively). Healthy young adults (n = 7) walked on a treadmill at three different speeds while data were recorded simultaneously from the IPS and a force plate (FP). The IPS was compared against the FP by evaluating differences between the two instruments under two different assessments: (1) comparing the two peak forces at weight acceptance and push-off (2PK) and (2) comparing the absolute maximum (MAX) of each gait cycle. Agreement between the two systems was evaluated using the Bland–Altman method. For the 2PK assessment, the group mean of differences (MoD) was (1.3 4.3% body weight (BW) and the distance between the MoD and the limits of agreement (2S) was 25.4 11.1% BW. For the MAX assessment, the average MoD across subjects was 1.9 3.0% BW, and 2S was 15.8 9.3% BW. Background: Electronic tracking devices, also known as locators, monitors, or surveillance devices, are increasingly being used to manage dementia-related wandering and, subsequently, raising various ethical questions. Despite the known importance technology design has on the ethics of technologies, little research has focused on the companies responsible for the design and development of electronic tracking devices. This paper is the first to perform a qualitative analysis of the ethically related content of the websites of companies that design and develop electronic tracking devices. Objective: The aim of this study was to understand how companies that design, develop, and market electronic tracking devices for dementia care frame, through textual marketing content, the vulnerabilities and needs of persons with dementia and caregivers, the way in which electronic tracking devices respond to these vulnerabilities and needs, and the ethical issues and values at stake. Methods: Electronic tracking device company websites were identified via a Google search, 2 device recommendation lists (Alzheimer's Los Angeles and the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health), and the 2 recent reviews of wander management technology by Neubauer et al and Ray et al. To be included, websites must be official representations of companies (not market or third-party websites) developing and selling electronic tracking devices for use in dementia care. The search was conducted on December 22, 2020, returning 199 websites excluding duplicates. Data synthesis and analysis were conducted on the textual content of the included websites using a modified form of the Qualitative Analysis Guide of Leuven. Results: In total, 29 websites met the inclusion criteria. Most (15/29, 52%) companies were in the United States. The target audience of the websites was largely caregivers. A range of intertwined vulnerabilities facing persons with dementia and their caregivers were identified, and the companies addressed these via care tools that centered on certain values such as providing information while preserving privacy. Life after device implementation was characterized as a world aspired to that sees increased safety for persons with dementia and peace of mind for caregivers. Conclusions: The way electronic tracking device content is currently conveyed excludes persons with dementia as a target audience. In presenting their products as a response to vulnerabilities, particular values are linked to design elements. A limitation of the results is the opaque nature of website content origins. How or when values arise in the process of design, development, and marketing is unknown. Therefore, further research should explore the process companies use to identify vulnerabilities, how values are decided upon and integrated into the design of products, and the perceptions of developers regarding the ethics of electronic tracking devices. In recent years, there has been an emergence of long‐term cardiac monitoring devices, particularly as they relate to nonprescribed, user‐initiated, wearable‐ and/or, smartphone‐based devices. With these new available data, practitioners are challenged to interpret these data in the context of routine clinical decision‐making. While there are many potential uses for long‐term rhythm monitoring, in this review, we will focus on the evolving role of this technology in atrial fibrillation (AF) monitoring after catheter and/or surgical ablation. Here, we explore the landscape of prescription‐based tools for long‐term rhythm monitoring; investigate commercially available technologies that are accessible directly to patients, and look towards the future with investigative technologies that could have a growing role in this space. Multiple rumor source identification (MRSI) in social networks has become a challenging problem for controlling rumors from spreading automatically. Even though several techniques have been introduced for MRSI, most of them were introduced based on the fact that they knew the underlying diffusion model in advance, which is mostly not possible in real-world scenarios. So, this paper proposes a new algorithm called Multi-Source Detection, which uses Community and Monitor information (MSDCM). Our algorithm has two stages: detecting multiple rumor sources using the community and monitor information. First, identify the communities in the network to find the suspicious communities with the possible sources using the monitors' information available in those communities. Next, detect a single source in each of the most likely suspicious communities by back-tracking from each monitor using edge weights in that community. Experimented on several datasets, including small-scale, large-scale, and artificial networks. Our results demonstrate that the designed algorithm is more efficient than the state-of-the-art algorithms. • Developed an algorithm called MSDCM to locate multiple rumor sources in social networks. • Introduced a novel partial observer-based and community-based technique in the MSDCM algorithm. • The time complexity of the MSDCM algorithm is O (m (N 0 2)). • MSDCM outperforms baseline algorithms in terms of distance error and execution time. Summary: Surveys suggest that anaesthesiologists believe that continuous monitoring with wearables will lead to improved patient outcomes. However, evidence suggests that several critical factors, including timely recognition of physiological problems, the presence of a trained team to respond to the alerts, and that the alerts occur far in advance of the deterioration, are required before overall improvement can occur. Wearables alone will not change patients' outcomes, they must be implemented as part of a system change that takes advantage of the higher frequency observations that continuous monitoring provides.

The modern anesthesia workstation provides a wealth of information some of which is of particular interest when it comes to optimizing ventilation settings. This knowledge gains even more importance in the therapy of pediatric patients. In the absence of evidence‐based recommendations on optimal ventilation settings in pediatric patients, the evaluation of individual factors becomes crucial and challenging at the same time. Even when equipped with the latest sensor technology, the user will always have to be in charge of interpreting the provided monitoring variables. The purpose of this review is to outline the clinical impact, technological background, and reliability of the most relevant information measured and calculated by a modern anesthesia workstation. Recent studies have identified stable hemodynamics as a contributing factor to improve outcome in pediatric anesthesia. So far, most of the hemodynamic monitoring methods applied in children have been complex to apply and often not satisfactory validated. Standard mainstream carbon dioxide analysis in combination with real‐time mathematical analysis of the measured capnography data has enabled the development of dynamic capnography, a non‐invasively cardiac output monitoring method that can be applied without user practice or need for calibrations. Capnodynamic cardiac output assessment has been extensively validated against gold standard reference methods, both in experimental and clinical settings. This review will describe the principle behind dynamic capnography measurement of cardiac output and mixed venous oxygen saturation. As sensor-based networks become more prevalent, scaling to unmanageable numbers or deployed in difficult to reach areas, real-time failure localisation is becoming essential for continued operation. Network tomography, a system and application-independent approach, has been successful in localising complex failures (i.e., observable by end-to-end global analysis) in traditional networks. Applying network tomography to wireless sensor networks (WSNs), however, is challenging. First, WSN topology changes due to environmental interactions (e.g., interference). Additionally, the selection of devices for running network monitoring processes (monitors) is an NP-hard problem. Monitors observe end-to-end in-network properties to identify failures, with their placement impacting the number of identifiable failures. Since monitoring consumes more in-node resources, it is essential to minimise their number while maintaining network tomography’s effectiveness. Unfortunately, state-of-the-art solutions solve this optimisation problem using time-consuming greedy heuristics. In this article, we propose two solutions for efficiently applying Network Tomography in WSNs: a graph compression scheme, enabling faster monitor placement by reducing the number of edges in the network, and an adaptive monitor placement algorithm for recovering the monitor placement given topology changes. The international Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) will perform a systematic investigation of ionization cooling with muon beams of momentum between 140 and 240 MeV/c at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory ISIS facility. The measurement of ionization cooling in MICE relies on the selection of a pure sample of muons that traverse the experiment. To make this selection, the MICE Muon Beam is designed to deliver a beam of muons with less than ∼1% contamination. To make the final muon selection, MICE employs a particle-identification (PID) system upstream and downstream of the cooling cell. The PID system includes time-of-flight hodoscopes, threshold-Cherenkov counters and calorimetry. The upper limit for the pion contamination measured in this paper is fπ < 1.4% at 90% C.L., including systematic uncertainties. Therefore, the MICE Muon Beam is able to meet the stringent pion-contamination requirements of the study of ionization cooling.

This article describes and analyzes from the point of view of their major evolutions, the purposes of the work-study training of ruralfamily houses, one of the main private institutions of technical agricultural education in France. This pedagogy of sandwich training comes from agricultural trade unionism which defined modes of intervention of training agents, called monitors. Sandwich training, initially built against public primary education, had the main goal of restoring peasant family as a legitimate educational body, considered to hold the monopoly on the transmission of agricultural knowledge. However, from the 1960s, this initial purpose disappeared. With school massification, work-study programs now play the role of a second-chance school oscillating between professionali%ation function and school remediation function. During a third period, identified from the 1990s, when the urban family homes were created, these two functions came together, as evidenced by the evolution of the role of monitor: he becomes a referent adult and a "tutor" for young people in difficulty preparing to enter adult life. Living‐donor kidney transplantation is the first choice therapy for children with end‐stage renal disease and shows good long‐term outcome. Etiology of renal failure, co‐morbidities, and hemodynamic effects, due to donor‐recipient size mismatch, differs significantly from those in adult patients. Despite the complexities related to both patient and surgery, there is a lack of evidence‐based anesthesia guidelines for pediatric kidney transplantation. Picture quality calibration technology plays an important role in the display system. The focus of the radio and television system is to obtain the best visual experience, and many of them include beautifying images and pleasing the audience. And the focus of the professional monitor system is to restore the live effects of the camera and other film sources to the greatest extent. This paper introduces the image quality calibration technology in the monitor system, mainly around the color temperature, gamma and color gamut calibration technology, and realizes the automatic calibration process. This method has been successfully applied to the image quality calibration work of monitor products.
