Background In Romania, as in other parts of the world, the family doctor is the first to make contact with a healthy patient and is also the first to notice even the smallest pathological changes. In the context of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, the patient's communication with the family doctor became even closer and some behavioral changes could be easily noticed. Objective To assess the symptoms of anxiety and depression in the Romanian population using social media platforms in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods We conducted an anonymous, web-based cross-sectional survey consisting of 31 questions related to general characteristics (age, gender, education, inhabitancy, residence, smoking status, and alcohol consumption) and adapted GAD-7 (7-item General Anxiety Disorders questionnaire) and PHQ-9 (9-item Patient Health Questionnaire). This questionnaire was sent to volunteers in an electronic format through a social network (Facebook, Twitter). The data collected were statistically processed using IBM SPSS v25.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). The inclusion criteria were age over 18 years and no history of chronic disease. The exclusion criteria consisted of the absence of a mental illness diagnosis. Results From the 1254 respondents, 1232 cases were selected for statistical analysis after applying the exclusion criteria. The mean age was 35.94 (SD = 11.4, 95%CI=10.9-11.9) with a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 97 years. Eighty-four point nine percent (84.9%; N=1046) of all study participants are female and 79.13% (N= 975) live in the urban area. A total of 188 (15.25%) were diagnosed with COVID-19 of which 31 (16.66%) were male and 157 (15%) were female. N=170 (13.8%) reported moderate symptoms of anxiety during the last two weeks before the survey while N=96 (7.8%) had severe anxiety. Twenty-two point two percent (22.2%; N=274) of the participants reported moderate symptoms of depression while 10.1% (N=125) had moderately severe symptoms and 6.6% (N=81) could be diagnosed with severe depression. A greater likelihood of screening for depression diagnosis was associated with ages between 25 and 34 years (OR=0.90, 95%CI=0.86-0.94

Background and Objectives: Different types of food introduced gradually in the diet will expose children to different food allergens, increasing the chance of developing allergic diseases. The aim of our study was to determine if allergen-specific IgE values can influence, depending on the diet, the prediction of remission of urticaria in children. Materials and Methods: This prospective study was conducted in 132 patients diagnosed over two years with urticaria, admitted to “Sf. Maria” Clinical Pediatric Hospital Iaşi. Total IgE assay was performed by ELISA, and determination of specific serum IgE by the CLA System Quanti Scan method (Innogenetics, Heiden, Germany). Data were gathered and statistical analysis was performed using statistical software SPSS, using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The determination of specific IgE to food allergens was performed on a total of 132 cases. The values of specific IgE were positive for one or more food allergens in 84 patients (63.64%). The most common allergens involved were: cow’s milk in 33.3% cases, egg white in 22.6% cases, and hazelnuts in 11.9% cases. The specific IgE values for the different types of food included in our study had a predictive value for disease remission. Conclusions: The determination of specific IgE confirms the presence of a particular food allergen and may have predictive value for the future development of an allergic manifestation.

The mean age was 35.94 (SD = 11.4, 95%CI=10.9-11.9) with the minimum of 18 years and the maximum of 97 years. 84.9% (N= 1046) from all study participants are female and 79.13% (N= 975) live in the urban area. 79.1%(N=974) of the respondents had higher education (university and above). 27.4% of the respondents are smokers, 62.9% drink alcohol at parties or on special occasions, while 4.1% have daily consumption. 188(15.25%) were diagnosed with COVID-19 from which, 31(16.66%) males and 157(15%) females. A percentage of 12.8% (N=158) was quarantined as close contact of a person who tested positive for the SARS-CoV2 infection. N=170 (13.8%) reported moderate symptoms of anxiety during the last 2 weeks before the survey while N=96 (7.8%) had severe anxiety. 22.2% (N=274) of the participants reported moderate symptoms of depression while 10.1% (N=125) had moderately severe symptoms and 6.6% (N=81) could be diagnosed with severe depression. A greater likelihood of screening for depression diagnosis was associated with the age between 25-34 years (OR=0.90, 95%CI=0.86-0.94, P CONCLUSIONS Regarding the high prevalence of depression and anxiety, especially in women, appropriate measures for the risk categories should be applied. In the new social context created by the Covid-19 pandemic, screening for psychiatric and psychological disorders should be performed by telemedicine. CLINICALTRIAL ISRCTN14652655

Infant mortality is a major problem in developing countries and, unfortunately, this is the case of our country as well, given that Romania ranks first in the European Union in this respect, with an infant mortality rate of 9 ‰, compared to an average of roughly 4 ‰. Worldwide, over 15 million babies are born prematurely each year and, out of these, more than a million die due to prematurity and infections, which are the main risk factors for neonatal mortality. The risk of infection is several times higher in preterm newborns than in full-term newborns – about 80% of neonatal infections occur in premature infants. A significant proportion of the survivors of prematurity will have important neurological sequelae because of neonatal infections as well as of intracerebral bleeding or hypoxia at birth. Continuing medical education in both the general population and the medical sector is crucial in preventing premature births and neonatal infections and, consequently, in decreasing infant morbidity and mortality rates in our country.

Mortalitatea infantilă este o problemă majoră pentru ţările în curs de dezvoltare, dar din păcate şi pentru ţara noastră, deoarece România este pe primul loc în Uniunea Europeană din acest punct de vedere, cu o rată a mortalităţii infantile de 9‰ faţă de media de aproximativ 4‰. La nivel mondial, peste 15 milioane de copii sunt născuţi prematur anual şi dintre aceştia, mai mult de un milion decedează, prematuritatea şi infecţiile fiind principalii factori de risc ai mortalităţii neonatale. Riscul infecţios este de câteva ori mai mare la prematuri decât la nou-născuţii la termen, aproximativ 80% dintre infecţiile neonatale apărând la prematuri. O proporţie importantă a supravieţuitorilor prematurităţii vor rămâne cu sechele neurologice importante din cauza atât a infecţiilor neonatale, cât şi a hemoragiilor intracerebrale sau hipoxiei la naştere. Educaţia medicală continuă, atât în cadrul populaţiei generale cât şi în sectorul medical, este de o importanţă crucială în prevenirea naşterilor premature, a infecţiilor neonatale, şi implicit pentru scăderea ratelor morbidităţii şi mortalităţii infantile în ţara noastră.

Remote monitoring of chronic diseases can improve health outcomes and potentially lower health care costs. The high number of the patients, suffering of chronically diseases, who wish to stay at home rather then in a hospital increasing the need of homecare monitoring and have lead to a high demand of wearable medical devices. Also, extended patient monitoring during normal activity has become a very important target.In this paper are presented the design of the wireless monitoring devices based on ultra low power circuits, high storage memory flash, bluetooth communication and the firmware for the management of the monitoring device.The monitoring device is built using an ultra low power microcontroller (MSP430 from Texas Instruments) that offers the advantage of high integration of some circuits. The custom made electronic boards used for biosignal acquisition are also included modules for storage device (SD/MMC card) with FAT32 file system and Bluetooth device for short-range communication used for data transmission between monitoring device and PC or PDA.The work was focused on design and implementation of an ultra low power wearable device able to acquire patient vital parameters, causing minimal discomfort and allowing high mobility. The proposed wireless device could be used as a warning system for monitoring during normal activity.

The Romanian National Energy strategy is requesting that renewables quota to reach 33% of consumption in 2010 and 38% in 2020. One of the most challenging issues facing wind energy today is its maximal and reliable integration in the power markets. Due to transport / distribution grid lack of flexibility and high level of concentration in Dobrogea region of large wind developments the access to the grid in Romania is proving difficult. This paper explores the role of short-term forecasting of wind power in Dobrogea for the successful integration of large wind farm capacity (over 2,000 MW) into a single injection point.

In the world the road traffic accidents are in the 3rd place at WHO cause-of-death statistics. One of the main causes of these accidents is driving fatigue as results of stress. The aim of this study is to monitoring the heart rate variability for identifying the grade of stress of the drivers.For this stage of the study we design and build an device that recording the ECG signal and the heart rate. We analysed of line the heart rate variability for determining one possible link between the grade of fatigue and heart rate variability. The device use only two electrodes placed on the steering wheel.We use three categories of subjects: beginner drivers, amateur drivers with more than 3 year experience, and expert drivers. The monitoring is made for 30 minutes in intensive traffic.The preliminary results are satisfactory which determine us to continuing the research in this direction.

Introduction: The growing prevalence of urticaria in children over the last decade and the importance of determining the involved pathogenic mechanisms as well as of detecting the etiologic factors are some of the aspects that led to the choice of research topic. Materials and Methods: The early diagnosis and the establishment of the therapeutic and prophylactic conduct in the urticaria are a necessity. There have been evaluated through a retrospective questionnaire, anamnesis and biochemical evaluation a number of 246 children diagnosed with chronic IgE and non IgE mediated urticaria, and prick tested for a wide range of food allergens. The assessment of the intensity of the eruption was done by calculating the urticaria activity score (UAS), both at diagnosis and at subsequent evaluations to assess the response to the treatment. The immunological investigations which were carried out included the determination of the IgA, IgG, IgM, total IgE and specific IgE to food allergens and airborne allergens, as well as the determination of the IgG4-type antibodies to 20 food allergens by means of enzyme immunoassay. The ELISA method was used for dosing the total IgE, while the CLA System Quanti Scan method (Innogenetics, Heiden, Germany) was used for determining the serum-specific IgE for 20 of the most common food allergens and airborne allergens (Innogenetics, Heiden, Germany). Results: Positive statistical correlations have been made with IgE and non IgE mediated reactions, also with IgG4 antibodies. The result of the multivariate analysis shows that the existence of the atopy represents a risk factor which significantly influences the allergic sensitisation (HR = 3.186→95% CI: 2.57-5.96), followed in the order of importance by food diversification before the age of 6.months (HR = 2.157→95% CI: 1.86-5.35), natural feeding before 3.months of age (HR = 1.78→95% CI: 1003-4581) and artificial or mixed feeding (HR = 1.56→95% CI: 1056-3861). Conclusion: There have been reported different correlations between specific IgE and IgG4 with different food allergens and the period of time between the onset and the duration of chronic urticaria. The regression of specific IgE has a predictive value upon the remission of urticaria (AUC=0.557, p=0.447, 95%CI: AUC→0.398–0.717). The logistic regression for analysis of the predictives factors for the regresson of urticaria showed several factors involved:.Speciphic IgE values, compliance for the eliminating diet and treatment, allergic antecedents and the eventual polisensitivisation.

In many medical fields the recovery of muscular activity or its improvement up to the level of the optimal parameters is required. Apart from the classical solution for rehabilitation (physical exercises) the use of electrical stimulation has become quite frequent of late. The paper presents an interface that detects the electromyographic (EMG) activity, assesses it, and generates appropriate electrical stimuli, by means of a specific type of fuzzy control system, in order to control the dynamics of the EMG. The proposed interface will detect the motion and muscular activity, it will evaluate and generate the electrical stimulus using a fuzzy system tuned by dynamic of motion. The application will transmit e-Health information to the physician via Internet, synthetic, at request using TCP/IP stack and SMS services for wireless communication.

Methods We performed a retrospective study exclusively on cases of sepsis and severe sepsis, in which we analyzed the records of the patients admitted in our ward last year. We included 131 patients, with a mean age of 64 years. Of all patients admitted to the ICU, 73 died and 74 required mechanical ventilation for a mean duration of over 6 days. These data suggest the seriousness and complexity of the disease. More than 45 patients were diagnosed with sepsis with MSOF (more than 3 organ dysfunctions).
