As new ventures grow, they face significant challenges to their internal operations and organizational structure. These challenges are particularly evident in small, entrepreneurial firms, who have limited resources, under-developed capabilities and often seek funding from external investors to enable growth. We draw on institutional theory, particularly institutional logics, to explore the role of different investors on human resource management (HRM) in small, entrepreneurial firms. Using qualitative multiple-case study analysis of seven firms within the Irish agrifood industry, our study shows how external investors can prompt changes to HRM, illustrating three approaches to HRM practice: operational – aimed at improving efficiency and internal functioning through human resources; strategic – aimed at improving firm performance and competitive advantage; and transformational – leading to a fundamental redirection of the firm. These findings facilitate the development of a framework for how investor logic prompts changes to HRM practices of small, entrepreneurial firms. By examining the interaction of institutional logics, this paper contributes a more nuanced understanding of entrepreneurial finance and its implications on HRM practices in small, entrepreneurial firms.

BACKGROUND: Despite the high incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Aboriginal communities in Australia, Aboriginal Health Workers (AHWs) have limited knowledge about effective management. AIM: To evaluate an online education program, co-designed with AHWs and exercise physiologists (EPs) or physiotherapists (PTs), to increase knowledge about COPD and its management. METHODS: AHWs and EPs from four Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) were recruited. An Aboriginal researcher and a physiotherapist experienced in COPD management and pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) delivered seven online education sessions. These sessions used co-design principles and an Aboriginal pedagogy framework '8 Ways of learning', which incorporates Aboriginal protocols and perspectives to realign teaching techniques and strengthen learning outcomes. Topics covered were: How the lungs work; What is COPD; Medications and how to use inhalers and COPD Action Plans; Why exercise is important; Managing breathlessness; Healthy eating; Managing anxiety and depression. After each session, AHWs with support from EPs, co-designed education 'yarning' resources using Aboriginal ways of learning to ensure topics were culturally safe for the local Aboriginal community and practiced delivering this at the following session. At the end of the program participants completed an anonymous online survey (5-point Likert scale) to assess satisfaction, and a semi-structured interview about their experience of the online education. RESULTS: Of the 12 participants, 11 completed the survey (7 AHWs, 4 EPs). Most (90%) participants strongly agreed or agreed that the online sessions increased knowledge and skills they needed to support Aboriginal patients with COPD. The connection between the spatial location of catastrophic breakdown spots occurring in metal-insulator-metal capacitors with a high-permittivity dielectric film (HfO) and their respective sizes is investigated. Large area structures ( 10^{4}-10^{5}~\mu \text{m}^{2} ) are used for this correlation assessment since, for statistical considerations, a large number of spots in the same device is imperatively required. The application of ramped or constant voltage stress across the capacitor generates defects inside the dielectric that result in the formation of multiple failure sites. High power dissipation takes place locally, leaving a permanent mark on the top electrode of the device. The set of marks constitutes a point pattern with attributes that can be analyzed from a statistical viewpoint. The correlation between the spot locations and their sizes is assessed through the mark correlation function and the method of reverse conditional moments. The study reveals that for severely damaged devices, there exists a link between the spot location and size that leads to a short range departure from a complete spatial randomness (CSR) process. It is shown that the affected region around each failure site is actually larger than the visible area of the spot. A structural modification of the dielectric layer in the vicinity of the spot caused by the huge thermal effects occurring just before the microexplosion might be the reason behind this extension of the damage.
