Abstract

There is a worldwide attempt to develop prevention strategies against SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Here we examined the effectiveness of visible light-responsive photocatalyst RENECAT™ on the inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 under different temperatures and exposure durations. The viral activation on the photocatalyst-coated glass slides decreased from 5.93±0.38 logTCID50/ml to 3.05±0.25 logTCID50/ml after exposure to visible light irradiation for 6h at 20°C. On the other hand, lighting without the photocatalyst, or the photocatalyst-coat without lighting retained viral stability. Immunoblotting and electron microscopic analyses showed the reduced amounts of spike protein on the viral surface after the photocatalyst treatment. Our data suggest a possible implication of the photocatalyst on the decontamination of the SARS-CoV-2 in indoor environments, thereby preventing indirect viral spread.

Abstract

An investigation on the thermally stimulated exoelectron emission (TSEE) from Argon plasma-treated Si by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and by using a theoretical equation, reveals that there are four types of electron trapping levels at the SiO2/Si near interfacial region. The trap dept for each level is inversely proportional to the oxygen content at the surface, but the electron affinity after the electron was lifted to the conduction band is almost independent of the oxygen content.

Abstract

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is a shrub growing originally in Paraguay. The leaves of this plant contain stevinoside, a sweet constituent which is 300 times as sweet as sucrose. Recently, this extracts is clinically useful for IgE related disease, atopic dermatitis or allergic dermatitis. Therefore, we studied the effects of stevia fermenting extracts (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) on histamine-induced contractions in isolated ileum from guinea pig. Two stevia extracts (A and C) inhibited the histamine-induced contractions. However, stevia extracts B, D and E did not affect on the histamine-induced contraction. Our results show stevia fermenting extracts having antihistaminic effects (H 1 receptor).

Abstract

Compositionally homogeneous Si0.52Ge0.48 bulk crystals were grown under a mild temperature gradient using a Si(seed)/Ge/Si(feed) sandwich structure for thermoelectric (TE) applications. The furnace temperature was kept constant for 300 h for the growth of homogeneous Si1-xGex bulk crystal with various temperature gradients. The temperature gradient of 0.4 degrees C/mm resulted in homogeneous Si0.52Ge0.48 bulk crystals of 22 mm length with a Ge compositional fluctuation of about 0.0023/mm. The compositions of the grown crystals were determined by means of Electron Probe Micro-Analysis (EPMA). Electrical resistivity and Seebeck coefficient of the prepared samples were measured using in-house built measurement system. It was found that the compositional fluctuation of Ge was decreased as the temperature gradient of the furnace decreased. The prepared Si0.52Ge0.48 sample showed high Seebeck coefficient compared to that of pure Si and Ge crystals.

Abstract

We investigated the dissolution process of GaSb into InSb melt by numerical simulations using the finite volume method. In addition, the dissolution process was in-situ observed by the X-ray penetration method. Rectangular shaped GaSb (seed)/InSb/GaSb (feed) sandwich structure of sample was considered for the numerical analysis and the same structure of sample was used for the X-ray penetration experiment. The numerical and experimental results were comparatively analysed. From the results, it was found that the quantity of the dissolved GaSb seed (at the low temperature region) was larger than that of the feed (at the high temperature region). The numerical simulation results supported the experimental results well. Both the experiment and the simulation provide deep insight into the dissolution process and composition profile in the solution during the dissolution process of ternary alloy semiconductor crystal growth.
