In this study, we develop an advanced retrieval algorithm for tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from the geostationary satellite instruments and apply it to Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) observations. Overall, the algorithm follows previous heritage for the polar-orbiting satellites Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2) and Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI), but several improvements are implemented to account for specific features of geostationary satellites. The DLR GEMS NO2 retrieval employs an extended fitting window compared to the current fitting window used in GEMS operational v2.0 NO2 retrieval, which results in improved spectral fit quality and lower uncertainties. For the stratosphere–troposphere separation in GEMS measurements, two methods are developed and evaluated: (1) STRatospheric Estimation Algorithm from Mainz (STREAM) as used in the DLR TROPOMI NO2 retrieval and adapted to GEMS and (2) estimation of stratospheric NO2 columns from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) Integrated Forecast System (IFS) cycle 48R1 model data, which introduce full stratospheric chemistry as it will be used in the operational Sentinel-4 NO2 retrieval. While STREAM provides hourly estimates of stratospheric NO2, it has limitations in describing small-scale variations and exhibits systematic biases near the boundary of the field of view. In this respect, the use of estimated stratospheric NO2 columns from the CAMS forecast model profile demonstrates better applicability by describing not only diurnal variation but also small-scale variations. For the improved air mass factor (AMF) calculation, sensitivity tests are performed using different input data. In our algorithm, cloud fractions retrieved from the Optical Cloud Recognition Algorithm (OCRA) adapted to GEMS level 1 data are applied instead of the GEMS v2.0 cloud fraction. OCRA is used operationally in TROPOMI and Sentinel-4. Compared to the GEMS level 2 cloud fraction which is typically set to around 0.1 for clear-sky scenes, OCRA sets cloud fractions close to or at 0. The OCRA-based cloud corrections result in increased tropospheric AMFs and decreased tropospheric NO2 vertical columns, leading to better agreement with results from existing TROPOMI observations. The effects of surface albedo on GEMS tropospheric NO2 retrievals are assessed by comparing the GEMS v2.0 background surface reflectance (BSR) and TROPOMI Lambertian-equivalent reflectivity (LER) climatology v2.0 product. The differences between the two surface albedo products and their impact on tropospheric AMF are particularly pronounced over snow/ice scenes during winter. A priori NO2 profiles from the CAMS forecast model, applied in the DLR GEMS algorithm, effectively capture variations in NO2 concentrations throughout the day with high spatial resolution and the advanced chemical mechanism, which demonstrates its suitability for geostationary satellite measurements. The retrieved DLR GEMS tropospheric NO2 columns show good capability for capturing hotspot signals at the scale of city clusters and describe spatial gradients from city centres to surrounding areas. Diurnal variations of tropospheric NO2 columns over Asia are well described through hourly sampling of GEMS. Evaluation of DLR GEMS tropospheric NO2 columns against TROPOMI v2.4 and GEMS v2.0 operational products shows overall good agreement. The uncertainty of DLR GEMS tropospheric NO2 vertical columns varies based on observation scenarios. In regions with low pollution levels such as open-ocean and remote rural areas, retrieval uncertainties typically range from 10 % to 50 %, primarily due to uncertainties in slant columns. For heavily polluted regions, uncertainties in tropospheric NO2 columns are mainly driven by errors in tropospheric AMF calculations. Notably, the total uncertainty in GEMS tropospheric NO2 columns is most significant in winter, particularly over heavily polluted regions with low-level clouds below or near the NO2 peak.

The retrieval of cloud parameters from the atmospheric Sentinel missions requires Earth reflectance measurements from a set of spectral bands. The ground pixels of the involved spectral bands should be fully aligned, but when they are not, special treatment is required within the operational algorithms. This so-called inter-band spatial misregistration of passive spectrometers is present when the Earth reflectance measurements in different spectral bands are captured by different spectrometers. The cloud retrieval algorithm requires reflectance measurements in the UV(ultraviolet)–VIS (visible) band, where the first cloud parameter (i.e., radiometric cloud fraction) is retrieved from OCRA (Optical Cloud Recognition Algorithm). In addition, Earth reflectances in the NIR (near-infrared) band are needed for the retrieval of two additional cloud parameters (i.e., cloud height and cloud albedo or cloud-top height and optical thickness) from the ROCINN (Retrieval of Cloud Information using Neural Networks) algorithm. In the former TROPOMI (TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument)/S5P (Sentinel-5 Precursor) retrieval, a coregistration scheme of the derived cloud parameters from the source band to the target band based on pre-calculated mapping weights from UV–VIS to NIR and vice versa is applied. In this paper we present a new scheme for the coregistration of the TROPOMI cloud parameters using collocated VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite)/SNPP (Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership) information. The new coregistration scheme based on the VIIRS data improves the TROPOMI cloud product quality and allows the addition of cloud information for the first (westernmost) TROPOMI UVIS ground pixel. In practice, the latter means that a significant number of valid data points are included in the TROPOMI cloud, total ozone, SO2 and HCHO product since 26 November 2023 (orbit 31705), when the new coregistration scheme became operational. From a comparison analysis between the two techniques, we found that the largest differences mainly appear for inhomogeneous scenes. From a validation exercise of TROPOMI against VIIRS in the across-track direction, we found that the old coregistration scheme tends to smooth out cloud structures along the scan line, whereas such structures can be maintained with the new scheme. The need to implement a similar inter-band spatial coregistration scheme is foreseen for the Sentinel-4/MTG-S (Meteosat Third Generation – Sounder) and Sentinel-5/MetOp-SG (Meteorological Operational Satellite – Second Generation) missions. In the case of the Sentinel-4 instrument, the external cloud information will originate from collocated data captured by the FCI (Flexible Combined Imager) on board the MTG-I (Meteosat Third Generation – Imager) satellite.

Introducción: Promover la actividad física entre los adolescentes requiere metodologías innovadoras que hagan las intervenciones educativas más atractivas y efectivas. Objetivo: Implementar y evaluar una intervención escolar integrada en las lecciones de educación física, utilizando la aplicación móvil Mystic School para promover la actividad física entre adolescentes. Metodología: Participaron 62 estudiantes (de 14 a 15 años) y 2 profesores de educación física en España. Sus percepciones fueron evaluadas mediante entrevistas personales y analizadas cualitativamente con el software NVivo. Resultados: Los estudiantes disfrutaron de las lecciones de educación física, considerándolas más atractivas que las tradicionales, y expresaron su deseo de más sesiones. Aunque la aplicación Mystic School fue vista como una innovación divertida, un profesor encontró confuso el sistema de puntos y recompensas, y otro sugirió mejoras en usabilidad y atractivo tras observar mayor compromiso estudiantil. Discusión: Los hallazgos sugieren que integrar metodologías y tecnologías innovadoras, como la aplicación Mystic School, puede aumentar el compromiso de los estudiantes en las lecciones de educación física. Sin embargo, el feedback mixto resalta la necesidad de refinar las herramientas tecnológicas para mejorar su usabilidad y atractivo. Estos resultados coinciden con la literatura, que subraya la importancia de diseños intuitivos y bien estructurados para maximizar el potencial de las tecnologías educativas. Conclusiones: Estudiantes y profesores percibieron la propuesta educativa y la aplicación Mystic School como innovadoras y capaces de mejorar las lecciones de educación física. La colaboración entre investigadores, docentes y familias, junto con intervenciones extendidas y herramientas optimizadas, ofrece un enfoque integral para programas educativos efectivos.

Introducción y Objetivos: La inactividad física y los bajos niveles de fitness muscular son cada vez más comunes en niños y adolescentes, especialmente después de las restricciones ocasionadas por el COVID-19. Esto suscita la necesidad de evaluar el fitness muscular como componente de la condición física vinculado a la salud en esta población, sin embargo, no existe una batería exclusiva adaptada para las clases de Educación Física. Por ello, en este estudio se realiza un análisis psicométrico de diferentes tests para evaluar el fitness muscular en niños de 6 a 12 años y se propone una batería integral adaptada al contexto escolar. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión de tests de fitness muscular teniendo en cuenta artículos de revisión sistemática y meta-análisis de los últimos 20 años. De los 28 tests iniciales, 14 cumplieron los criterios de validez y fiabilidad tras una búsqueda en diversas bases de datos como Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed y Google Scholar. Estos 14 tests se puntuaron atendiendo a su validez, fiabilidad, viabilidad por coste-eficacia para el contexto escolar y adaptabilidad inclusiva. Finalmente, se seleccionaron 6 tests considerados integrales (≥0.75). Resultados: Se propone una batería integral con 6 tests: fuerza de prensión manual, salto de longitud desde parado a pies juntos, flexiones, sentadillas a dos piernas, abdominales curl-up y lanzamiento de balón medicinal. Conclusión: La batería propuesta facilita la evaluación del fitness muscular en niños, permitiendo a los docentes diseñar programas adaptados, realizar un seguimiento del progreso y promover la concienciación sobre la salud.

Abstract Introduction This study addresses the ossification process of the foot, a topic of great relevance within podiatry courses. Understanding the chronology of foot bone formation is essential for evaluating pathological processes and establishing appropriate therapeutic actions to improve patient quality of life. The main objectives of this work are to understand the ossification process of the foot bones and to propose an appropriate didactic methodology for effective learning of this process. Materials and Methods The individual ossification sequences of the foot bones were established and virtually recreated to make these processes more didactic and usable as teaching aids. The literature search was conducted using the PRISMA statement, focusing on terms, such as “bone ossification,” “foot,” and “bone development,” and included relevant studies from medical databases. Results Updating the ossification ages and providing previously unavailable visual teaching material offers a useful tool for improving the teaching of this subject. It was found that, in general, the tarsal bones show significant differences in ossification ages between sexes, with later and slower ossification in males. These differences are statistically analyzed and presented in detailed comparative tables. Conclusions The use of innovative teaching tools, such as virtual anatomical models, helps students to better understand the ossification process of foot bones. Implementing these tools in the podiatry curriculum not only facilitates knowledge acquisition but also enhances the quality of teaching and, consequently, the future clinical practice of students.

Due to the climate change, there have been changes in the rhythm of nature over the last decades. In addition, there has been an increasing social consciousness regarding decarbonization and emissions, promoting governments new policies and economic support measures for renewable integration. In this scenario, the participation of the onshore and offshore wind sectors play a crucial role, expecting that more than 6000 GW will be globally installed in 2050. In parallel, the useful life of other wind power plants is coming to their end. Therefore, some countries will face in the coming years the decision of repowering, decommissioning, installing new turbines, or a combination of them. In general, the areas with the greatest wind potential are already occupied by relatively old wind turbines. Subsequently, a complex group of factors influences on the most appropriate solution decision-making, involving climatic, technological, environmental, social or economic aspects. This paper proposes an optimized methodology based on multi-criteria decision-making to estimate the most appropriate solution for extending the useful-life of wind power plants. An initial group of 26 factors were identified, corresponding to seven categories: technical, geographic, socio-environmental, location, economic, political and climate. The methodology is divided into three stages: (i) data, (ii) alternatives, and (iii) optimization. It was assessed with a Spanish onshore wind power plant connected to the grid. From the initial data and factors, 11 alternatives were designed based on a selection of 10 most relevant factors. The results provide an optimal solution, combining both repowering and installation of new wind turbines. From the results, this methodology would allow reducing the LCOE of the new wind plants installed in the European Union by more than 50%.

BackgroundThis study examined the strength, shape and direction of associations of accelerometer-assessed overall, school- and non-school-based moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary time (ST) with BMI among adolescents across the world. Second, we examined whether these associations differed by study site and sex.MethodsCross-sectional data from the IPEN Adolescent study, an observational multi-country study, were used. Participants wore an accelerometer for seven days, reported height and weight, and completed a socio-demographic survey. In total, 4852 adolescents (46.6% boys), aged 11-19 years (mean age = 14.6, SD = 1.7 years) were included in the analyses, using generalized additive mixed models.ResultsAdolescents accumulated on average 41.3 (SD = 22.6) min/day of MVPA and 531.8 (SD = 81.1) min/day of ST, and the prevalence of overweight and obesity was 17.2% (IOTF), but these mean values differed by country. Linear negative associations of accelerometer-based MVPA and ST with standardized BMI scores and the likelihood of being overweight/obese were found. School-based ST and non-school-based MVPA were more strongly negatively associated to the outcomes than non-school based ST and school-based MVPA. Study site moderated the associations; adolescent sex did not. No curvilinear associations were found.ConclusionsThis multi-country study confirmed the importance of MVPA as a potential protective factor against overweight/obesity in adolescents. Non-school-based MVPA seemed to be the main driver of these associations. Unexpected results were found for ST, calling for further examination in methodologically sound international studies but using inclinometers or pressure sensors to provide more precise ST measures.

Background: One of the pathological hallmarks distinguishing Alzheimer's disease from other dementias is the accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ). Higher physical activity is associated with decreased dementia risk, and one potential path could be through Aβ levels modulation. We aimed to explore the relationship between physical activity and Aβ in middle-aged and older adults. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and SPORTDiscus was performed from inception to April 28, 2022. Studies were eligible if they included physical activity and Aβ data in adults aged 45 years or older. Multi-level meta-analyses of intervention and observational studies were performed to examine the role of physical activity in modulating Aβ levels. Results: In total, 37 articles were included (8 randomized controlled trials, 3 non-randomized controlled trials, 4 prospective longitudinal studies, and 22 cross-sectional studies). The overall effect size of physical activity interventions on changes in blood Aβ was medium (pooled standardized mean difference = –0.69, 95% confidence interval (95%CI): –1.41 to 0.03; I2 = 74.6%). However, these results were not statistically significant, and there were not enough studies to explore the effects of physical activity on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and brain Aβ. Data from observational studies were examined based on measurements of Aβ in the brain using positron emission tomography scans, CSF, and blood. Higher physical activity was positively associated with Aβ only in the CSF (Estimate r = 0.12; 95%CI: 0.05–0.18; I2 = 38.00%). Conclusion: Physical activity might moderately reduce blood Aβ in middle-aged and older adults. However, results were only near statistical significance and might be interpreted with caution given the methodological limitations observed in some of the included studies. In observational studies, higher levels of physical activity were positively associated with Aβ only in CSF. Therefore, further research is needed to understand the modulating role of physical activity in the brain, CSF, and blood Aβ, as well as its implication for cognitive health.

This study investigates the impact of flipped learning (FL) with and without teacher feedback on resilience and perceived professional competence among university students. This quasi-experimental study, conducted over three academic years, involved 255 s-year students (mean age = 20.47 ± 2.63; 60.4% female) enrolled in a Primary Education Teaching degree program at a Spanish public university. Participants were divided into two treatment groups: Feedback FL and Non-feedback FL. Validated scales—the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and the Perceived Competence Scale for Students (PCNS)—were used for pre- and post-intervention assessments. Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in resilience and perceived competence, with no statistically significant differences between the Feedback FL and Non-feedback FL groups. Data analysis included Mann–Whitney U tests for inter-group comparisons, Wilcoxon tests for intra-group comparisons, and 2 × 2 repeated measures ANOVA, which revealed no interaction effects (Time × Treatment) for either variable. These results suggest that FL alone fosters the development of transversal skills such as resilience and perceived competence, regardless of teacher feedback. The findings highlight the effectiveness of active learning models like FL in higher education for promoting essential competencies. Future research should address additional soft skills and employ larger, more diverse samples to further explore the role of feedback and innovative methodologies in enhancing FL’s impact.

Background: Flexible pediatric flatfoot is an anatomical presentation of the foot that is common in children, and its functional impact raises long-term uncertainty. Functional re-education includes strengthening and stretching exercises for the intrinsic and extrinsic musculature of the foot, proposed as an effective conservative treatment. However, to date, there is no systematic review examining its effectiveness in the pediatric population. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of functional re-education as a conservative treatment for flexible pediatric flatfoot, determining which exercises are most effective. Methods: A search (PROSPERO: CRD42023391030) was conducted across six databases, resulting in an initial total of 327 studies. Of these, 11 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) met the inclusion criteria, resulting in a sample of 419 children aged 6 to 14 years with a diagnosis of flexible flatfoot. The evaluated studies present variations in diagnostic criteria, types of exercises, and treatment duration. Results: The results indicate that functional re-education is effective in improving the symptomatology and functionality of the foot in children. In particular, exercises targeting the intrinsic musculature proved to be among the most effective treatments, improving the structural development of the medial longitudinal arch. The reviewed literature recommends a minimum treatment duration of eight weeks. Conclusions: Functional re-education represents an effective conservative treatment option for flexible flatfoot in children, positioning it as the treatment of choice for this condition.

This study assessed the technological potential and bioactive compounds present in purple yampee (Dioscorea trifida L.f.) lyophilized powder, peeled and whole flour, as well as the tuber peel, starch residual fiber, and wastewater mucilage. Although most values approached neutrality, flour showed a lower pH and high density, while greater acidity was observed in the mucilage. Color differed statistically and perceptibly between all samples, with similar values of °hue to purple flours from other sources, and the maximum chroma was found in lyophilized pulp and lightness in fiber. Average moisture levels around 7.2% and water activity levels of 0.303 (0.194 for whole flour) in fractions suggested favorable storability, while the interaction of the powders with water was similar to other root and tuber powdered derivatives. Yampee periderm had the highest swelling power, oil absorption capacity, water holding capacity, and absorption index and capacity. Mucilage had a higher solubility index and outstanding emulsion activity, greater than 90%. Twelve anthocyanins, with new reports of petunidin derivatives for the species, and more than 30 phytochemicals were identified through advanced liquid chromatography techniques. The greatest amounts of pinitol and myo-inositol were found in the mucilage, and sucrose, glucose, and fructose prevailed in the other powders. Successfully characterized yampee fractions showed high potential as functional food ingredients.

Las universidades deben ofrecer a los estudiantes programas académicos centrados en las demandas laborales para la adquisición de competencias profesionales. El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer y comparar la percepción del grado de desarrollo y de importancia otorgada a las competencias profesionales en el ámbito de la Educación Física (EF) de 176 estudiantes universitarios españoles según la titulación y experiencia laboral previa y actual. Se utilizó un cuestionario ad hoc, de 15 preguntas sobre experiencia laboral, conocimiento en competencias, importancia y grado de desarrollo. Para el análisis de datos se realizaron estadísticas descriptivas y para la comparación de variables, se utilizó el análisis de varianza o factor ANOVA unidireccional, post hoc Sheffe, y t de student. Los principales resultados indicaron que las competencias de resolución de problemas, habilidades sociales y trabajo en equipo fueron las más importantes para los estudiantes, siendo el trabajo en equipo la más desarrollada. Los futuros docentes y maestros de EF percibieron de forma satisfactoria las competencias profesionales, existiendo un desequilibrio significativo entre la importancia y el desarrollo percibido en todas las competencias analizadas, a excepción del trabajo en equipo en la cual coinciden como la más importante y la más desarrollada, siendo el trabajo en contextos internacionales la menos valorada. Estos resultados podrían aportar información que posibilite un acercamiento entre el mundo académico y el mundo profesional en el ámbito de las titulaciones analizadas, para así mejorar la empleabilidad de los futuros graduados en el sector de la EF. Universities should offer students academic programmes focused on the demands of the workplace for the acquisition of professional competences. The aim of this study was to find out and compare the perception of the degree of development and importance given to professional competences in the field of Physical Education (PE) of 176 Spanish university students according to their degree and previous and current work experience. An ad hoc questionnaire was used, consisting of 15 questions on work experience, knowledge of competences, importance and degree of development. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis and for the comparison of variables, one-way ANOVA, post hoc Sheffe, and Student's t-test were used for analysis of variance or factor analysis. The main results indicated that the competences of problem solving, social skills and teamwork were the most important for the students, with teamwork being the most developed. The professional competences were perceived as satisfactory by the prospective teachers and PE teachers, with a significant imbalance between perceived importance and development in all the competences analysed, with the exception of teamwork in which they agreed as the most important and the most developed, with work in international contexts being the least valued. These results could provide information that would make it possible to bring the academic world and the professional world closer together in the field of the degrees analysed, in order to improve the employability of future graduates in the PE sector. Little is known about the modes of active commuting to and from school (ACS) in toddlers (2-3 years old). The aims of the present study are threefold: (a) to describe the modes of transport to and from early childhood education and care (ECEC) institutions in toddlers; (b) to analyze the role of different barriers and neighbourhood characteristics, as perceived by parents, in ACS; and (c) to examine the contribution of ACS on levels of PA. Parents provided written input through a questionnaire about the modes of transport to school they use with their young children, the weekly use-frequency of each mode, as well as the barriers they perceived to walking or riding a bike to ECEC institutions. The final sample consisted of 154 young children from Valencia (Spain). In a randomly selected subsample of 44 children, PA was measured using accelerometers. Cars and strollers were the most common modes of transport in toddlers. Perceived distance to school was negatively correlated to ACS, whereas parents' perceptions around planning/psychosocial barriers was also negatively associated with ACS. There was a significant and positive association between ACS and total PA. However, ACS contributes positively to toddlers' overall PA levels. This study provides information about planning/psychosocial barriers as significant predictors of ACS in toddlers.

The near-merger hypothesis has served to explain many situations where other explanations have not sufficed, including mainly those where apparently completed mergers have been reversed. However, the situation in the city of Malaga (Spain) calls for a critical review of the main pitfalls of this hypothesis and for a sociolinguistic reorganisation of sound change to allow for near-demergers. The present work focusses on the reversal of the coronal fricative /θ/ and /s/ merger (Casa ‘house’ = Caza ‘hunting’) that has been widely observed in Malaga. Acoustic-perceptual analysis of the realisations of 54 speakers reveals that a completed phonological merger can, in fact, revert and that acoustic cues do not necessarily indicate a near-merger.

In the ongoing shift toward electric vehicles (EVs) primarily utilizing lithium-ion battery technology, a significant population of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) remains operational, which are reliant on established NiMH battery systems. Over the last twenty years, these HEVs have generated a substantial number of NiMH batteries that are either inoperable, experiencing performance degradation, or approaching the end of their service life. This situation results in a twofold challenge: (i) a growing volume of environmentally hazardous waste due to the difficulty of NiMH battery reclamation and (ii) escalating maintenance costs for HEV owners necessitated by replacement battery purchases. To overcome this scenario, patent WO2015092107A1, published in 2015, proposed a ‘Method for regenerating NiMH batteries.’ This method claimed the ability to restore NiMH batteries to their original functionality based on a non-intrusive approach. However, a comprehensive review of the relevant scientific literature fails to identify any empirical evidence supporting the efficacy of this regeneration technique. Within this context, this study provides a detailed analysis and evaluation of the regeneration process based on an unsupervised and non-intrusive prototype. The proposed prototype can be used not only to implement and evaluate the previous patent, but also to test any other process or methodology based on controlled charging/discharging periods under certain current conditions. NiMH battery cells from a Toyota Prius were included in this work as a real case study. The experimental results from this prototype demonstrate the reduced potential for battery regeneration using the proposed method. Future contributions should offer a promising solution for mitigating the challenges associated with NiMH battery disposal, maintenance within the HEV domain, and other second-life alternative options.

Background: Foot morphology in children is a crucial factor influencing multiple aspects of their physical development. Between the ages of 5 and 10 years, the critical period of child development is when the movement and stability patterns are consolidated that can affect their long-term physical performance and quality of life. The aim of this study is to analyze how the type of foot influences different physical characteristics, laxity, strength, motor tests, and baropodometric variables in children aged 5 to 10 years. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 196 children was conducted. Different physical characteristics, laxity, strength, motor tests, and baropodometric variables of the sample were analyzed for age and Foot Posture Index (FPI). Results: Differences in all variables were examined by age and FPI. Statistical analysis showed a moderate to high correlation (r > 0.6, p < 0.01) between FPI and the relaxed calcaneal stance position (RCSP) test. Some significant differences were also found in variables related to foot pronation and supination. These results provide valuable information for understanding differences in motor and functional development during childhood and pre-adolescence. Conclusions: The findings highlight the variability in physical and functional development between age and foot type groups, highlighting the importance of considering these differences in the assessment and management of foot-related conditions and biomechanics in childhood. Foot type significantly influences children’s growth and development.

ObjectivesThe use of online imagery by non-local observers to conduct remote, centralized collection of streetscape audit data in international studies has the potential to enhance efficiency of collection and comparability of such data for research on built environments and health. The objectives of the study were to measure (1) the consistency in responses between local in-field observers and non-local remote online observers and (2) the reliability between in-country online observers and non-local remote online observers using the Microscale Audit of Pedestrian Streetscapes Global tool to characterize pedestrian-related features along streets in five countries.MethodsConsistency and inter-rater reliability were analyzed between local and non-local observers on a pooled database of 200 routes in five study regions (Melbourne, Australia; Ghent, Belgium; Curitiba, Brazil; Hong Kong, China; and Valencia, Spain) for microscale environmental feature subscales and item-level variables using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).ResultsA local in-field versus remote online comparison had an ICC of 0.75 (95 % CI: 0.68-0.80) for the grand total score. An ICC of 0.91 (95 % CI: 0.88-0.93) was found for the local online versus remote online comparison. Positive subscales yielded stronger results in comparison to negative subscales, except for the similarly poor-performing positive aesthetics/social characteristics.ConclusionsThis study demonstrated remote audits of microscale built environments using online imagery had good reliability with local in-field audits and excellent reliability with local online audits. Results generally supported remote online environmental audits as comparable to local online audits. This identification of low-cost and efficient data acquisition methods is important for expanding research on microscale built environments and physical activity globally.

BackgroundMicroscale environmental features are usually evaluated using direct on-street observations. This study assessed inter-rater reliability of the Microscale Audit of Pedestrian Streetscapes, Global version (MAPS-Global), in an international context, comparing on-street with more efficient online observation methods in five countries with varying levels of walkability.MethodsData were collected along likely walking routes of study participants, from residential starting points toward commercial clusters in Melbourne (Australia), Ghent (Belgium), Curitiba (Brazil), Hong Kong (China), and Valencia (Spain). In-person on the street and online using Google Street View audits were carried out by two independent trained raters in each city. The final sample included 349 routes, 1228 street segments, 799 crossings, and 16 cul-de-sacs. Inter-rater reliability analyses were performed using Kappa statistics or Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC).ResultsOverall mean assessment times were the same for on-street and online evaluations (22 ± 12 min). El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar los componentes de la interacción social que influyen en el aprendizaje cooperativo en las clases de educación física durante la educación secundaria obligatoria (ESO), abarcando edades de 11 a 16 años, y su contribución al desarrollo sostenible. Se incluyeron objetivos secundarios, como comparar estas dimensiones por género y nivel de grado, y determinar la etapa de la ESO más recomendable para implementar el aprendizaje cooperativo en educación física. El estudio fue de corte transversal, cuantitativo y descriptivo, con direccionalidad prospectiva y control observacional. Participaron 372 estudiantes de ESO de un instituto público en Elche, de un total de 412 invitados. La muestra se distribuyó entre 119 estudiantes de 1º de ESO, 119 de 2º, 62 de 3º y 72 de 4º. Se utilizó el cuestionario "Escala Graupera/Ruiz de Preferencias de Interacción Social en Educación Física (GR-SIPPEL)". Los principales resultados mostraron una preferencia general por la cooperación en educación física, con puntuaciones más altas en competitividad para las niñas. Además, se observó una disminución en cooperación y afiliación a medida que los estudiantes avanzaban de curso, con un aumento en competitividad e individualismo. Como conclusión se puede decir que los estudiantes de secundaria mostraron una fuerte preferencia por la cooperación durante las clases de educación física. The aim of this research is to analyze the components of social interaction that influence cooperative learning (CL) in physical education (PE) classes during compulsory secondary education (ESO), spanning ages from 11 to approximately 16 years old, and its contribution to sustainable development (SD). Secondary objectives include comparing these dimensions by gender and grade level, and determining the most advisable stage of ESO to implement CL in PE. The study is cross-sectional, quantitative, and descriptive, with prospective directionality and observational control. A total of 372 ESO students from a public institute in Elche participated, out of 412 invited. The sample was distributed among 119 1st ESO students, 119 2nd ESO students, 62 3rd ESO students, and 72 4th ESO students. The "Graupera/Ruiz Scale of Social Interaction Preferences in PE (GR-SIPPEL)" questionnaire was used. Results indicate a general preference for cooperation in PE, with higher competitiveness scores for girls. Additionally, a decrease in cooperation and affiliation is observed as students progress through grades, alongside an increase in competitiveness and individualism. In conclusion, secondary school students exhibit a strong preference for cooperation during PE classes. Este artículo tiene como objetivo iniciar la reflexión sobre el impacto de la integración española en la CEE en el sector primario. El análisis de este ángulo ciego de la historiografía actual permitirá ofrecer nuevas visiones sobre el cambio de las políticas públicas españolas y comunitarias, las transformaciones de la administración, el poder de España en Bruselas y también conocer la relación entre integración europea y los diferentes niveles de política de un país, todo ello en relación con su agricultura y su pesca.
