Abstract Introduction Cardiac involvement in malignant lymphoma is one of the least investigated subjects in oncology. This article reports a case of cardiac involvement in Hodgkin's lymphoma which presented as heart failure. Case presentation We report the case of an 8-year-old Afghan girl with Hodgkin's lymphoma. The disease presented with systemic signs and symptoms, including abdominal distension, weakness, pallor, chills, fever, generalized edema, hepatosplenomegaly and generalized lymphadenopathy, as well as signs of heart failure. Test results showed a rare form of heart metastasis. Conclusion We report a case of Hodgkin's lymphoma with metastasis to the heart, detected premortem. Although the involvement of the heart in a malignancy is relatively common, premortem detection is unusual and only few studies have reported it in the literature.

Using cell phones by nurses can affect the quality of care. This study aimed to explore the consequences of using cell phones by nurses in hospitals. A qualitative approach was used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Nursing staff, patients, and their relatives participated in this study. Categories of "emotionless care," "neglect in care," "impaired professional behavior" and a main theme of "Personal cell phone is a barrier to effective nursing care" extracted. Using cell phone during work could jeopardize patients' safety and ruins the nursing profession image. It is necessary to formulate guidelines on how to use cell phones in hospitals.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of common mouthwashes on the color change of a nanohybrid composite and its further stain susceptibility to Coke and coffee. Materials and Methods: One hundred and fifty composite discs were prepared and initial color values were measured using a spectrophotometer. The specimens were grouped based on the 24h exposure to common mouthwashes including Listerine, chlorhexidine, two types of fluoride mouthwashes (alcohol free and alcohol containing) as well as distilled water as control (N=30). The color change (ΔE1) values were calculated to show the amount of color change caused by mouthwashes. Subsequently, the specimens in each group were subdivided and immersed in the secondary colorant solution (coffee, Coke and, distilled water) for seven days. The total color change (ΔE total) values were obtained to show the stain susceptibility. Statistical analysis was conducted using ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The calculated ΔE1 of resin composite was significantly higher for all mouthwash groups than that of the control group; however, all were in the clinically acceptable range. Exposure to Listerine and distilled water caused more staining effects compared to other mouthwashes after immersion in secondary colorant solutions. Regardless of primary mouthwash type, coffee and distilled water caused the highest and the least total discolorations, respectively (P<0.001). Conclusion: All mouthwashes caused a clinically acceptable color change in resin composite; however, further stain susceptibility depended on the mouthwashes but was not higher than distilled water., Competing Interests: None declared., (Copyright © 2023 The Authors. Introduction: In recent years, the use of bleach shade composite resins has increased due to the high esthetic demands. The aim of the present study was to investigate the masking ability and translucency of several bleach shade composite resins., Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 180 discs from 9 bleach shade composite resins of 5 brands (G-aenial Anterior, Gradia Direct, Charisma Diamond, Estelite Sigma Quick, and Renamel Microfill) in thicknesses of 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 mm were prepared. The color parameters of the specimens were measured in a CIE l ∗ a ∗ b ∗ system using a spectrophotometer. Masking ability and translucency parameters were calculated, and the influence of thickness, shade, and composite resin brand on these variables was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests., Results: Both masking ability and translucency differed significantly among groups ( p < 0.001), but only MA was different between different brands ( p < 0.001). Higher thicknesses showed lower translucency in all pairwise comparisons ( p < 0.001). 0.5 mm-thick specimens had lower masking ability than 1.5 mm- ( p =0.016) and 2 mm- ( p =0.035) thick ones. However, masking ability of other thickness pairs did not show a significant difference ( p > 0.05). G-aenial Anterior and Renamel Microfill had the highest and lowest masking ability. Bleach white shades had lower masking ability and higher translucency than extrawhite bleach shades., Conclusion: Translucency and masking ability of bleach shade composite resins differed in different thicknesses, composite resin brands, and shade groups., Competing Interests: The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest in this study., (Copyright © 2022 Haleh Valizadeh-Haghi et al.)

One of the major obstacles in cancer therapy is the lack of anticancer agent specificity to tumor tissues. The strategy of cell-based therapy is a promising therapeutic option for cancer treatment. The specific tumor-oriented migration of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) makes them a useful vehicle to deliver anticancer agents. In this study, we genetically manipulated bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells with their lipocalin 2 (Lcn2) in order to inhibit liver metastasis of colon cancer in nude mice. Lcn2 was successfully overexpressed in transfected MSCs. The PCR results of SRY gene confirmed the presence of MSCs in cancer liver tissue. This study showed that Lcn2-engineered MSCs (MSC-Lcn2) not only inhibited liver metastasis of colon cancer but also downregulated the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the liver. Overall, MSCs by innate tropism toward cancer cells can deliver the therapeutic agent, Lcn2, and inhibit cancer metastasis. Hence, it could be a new modality for efficient targeted delivery of anticancer agent to liver metastasis.

Background: The use of computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) has been increased during the last decade., Objectives: We studied the adherence to current diagnostic recommendations for evaluation of pulmonary embolism in a teaching hospital of Tehran University of Medical Sciences., Patients and Methods: The registered medical records (Wells scores and serum D-dimer level) of all patients whose CTPA was performed with suspicion of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) were studied retrospectively. Modified Wells score of each patient was determined without being aware of the CTPA results. The patients were categorized to those with a high (likely) clinical probability (score > 4) and low (unlikely) clinical probability (score≤ 4) of PTE., Results: During a 6-month period, 82 patients who underwent CTPA were included. The prevalence of PTE was 62.2% in the group of subjects with a likely clinical risk. In 45 (54.8%) of those patients whose CTPA was requested, the PTE was unlikely based on modified Wells criteria. In the clinically unlikely group, serum D-dimer assay was done in 15 out of 45 (33.3%), while it was inappropriately checked in 10 out of 37 (27.0%) with a clinically likely risk. General adherence rate to diagnostic algorithm of PTE was 43.9%., Conclusion: There is still excessive unjustified concern of PTE in less trained physicians leading to excessive diagnostic work-up. Loyalty to the existing guideline for management of suspected PTE in educational hospitals and supervision of attending physicians could prevent overuse of CTPA.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of telephone consultation and attendance education on the quality of life of patients with hepatitis B or C receiving interferon therapy., Subjects and Methods: Through a quasi-experimental study, 80 hepatitis patients were randomly assigned to one of the two educational methods. Patients completed the Quality of Life Questionnaire once upon entering the study and also 4 and 12 weeks after the treatment. Then, the results were compared. One group received education during monthly visits at the center, and another group got counseling over the telephone for 3 months. The data were analyzed using SPSS software (IBM, Armonk, NY)., Results: The results showed that the overall quality of life in both groups 4 weeks and 12 weeks after the intervention had significant differences from the pre-intervention period; however, these differences were more significant in the telephone counseling group., Conclusions: By virtue of the fact that no significant difference was found between the results of traditional education and telephone consultation and considering the high volume of patients in centers, remote distance between patients and centers, and also limited staff time, telephone advice can take the place of traditional education methods.
