This study explores how smart irrigation systems can be improved by introducing advanced technologies and reducing water consumption to fight climate change. This study aims to identify the factors affecting the success of smart irrigation systems based on the Internet of Things with the mediation of optimal consumption management. This is an applied research employing mixed methodologies (qualitative-quantitative). Initially, the semi-structured interviews were carried out to obtain the effective success factors of the smart irrigation system. Analysis in the qualitative section has been conducted using the Maxqda software. For the quantitative study, a 25-statement questionnaire was applied according to the selected codes obtained with a fivepoint Likert scale to validate the obtained model. The questionnaire was distributed online in January 2023, and analysis was conducted using SmartPLS3 software. The technical aspects of the questionnaire were assessed using validity and reliability criteria, which can guarantee the precision of the research findings. Construct and content validity were employed in this study to examine the questionnaire's validity. The researchers employed Cronbach's alpha coefficient to evaluate the reliability of the measurement instrument. Besides, it can be said that the research instrument has acceptable reliability because obtained Cronbach's alpha for all variables was greater than 0.70 and the questionnaire's overall alpha was determined to be 0.810. Furthermore, the t-statistics for all research hypotheses is higher than 1.96 at the 95% confidence level. In this sense, the hypotheses of the research were confirmed. The Internet of Things and will change the nature of activities and services in the market. In fact, for emerging markets, the untapped and growing investment opportunities and the economic leap against the Internet of Things are so enticing and facilitating that it is impossible to resist. and neglecting it will cause irreparable damage to agility. Therefore, the success of the Internet of Things for emerging markets depends on the preconditions of integration of activities carried out by decision-making organizations, facilitation of regulations, and communication and interaction between relevant sectors, which should be considered a priority through cross-sectoral research. A genetically engineered pig cardiac xenotransplantation was done on Jan 7, 2022, in a non-ambulatory male patient, aged 57 years, with end-stage heart failure, and on veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support, who was ineligible for an allograft. This report details our current understanding of factors important to the xenotransplantation outcome. Physiological and biochemical parameters critical for the care of all heart transplant recipients were collected in extensive clinical monitoring in an intensive care unit. To ascertain the cause of xenograft dysfunction, we did extensive immunological and histopathological studies, including electron microscopy and quantification of porcine cytomegalovirus or porcine roseolovirus (PCMV/PRV) in the xenograft, recipient cells, and tissue by DNA PCR and RNA transcription. We performed intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) binding to donor cells and single-cell RNA sequencing of peripheral blood mononuclear cells. After successful xenotransplantation, the graft functioned well on echocardiography and sustained cardiovascular and other organ systems functions until postoperative day 47 when diastolic heart failure occurred. At postoperative day 50, the endomyocardial biopsy revealed damaged capillaries with interstitial oedema, red cell extravasation, rare thrombotic microangiopathy, and complement deposition. Increased anti-pig xenoantibodies, mainly IgG, were detected after IVIG administration for hypogammaglobulinaemia and during the first plasma exchange. Endomyocardial biopsy on postoperative day 56 showed fibrotic changes consistent with progressive myocardial stiffness. Microbial cell-free DNA testing indicated increasing titres of PCMV/PRV cell-free DNA. Post-mortem single-cell RNA sequencing showed overlapping causes. Hyperacute rejection was avoided. We identified potential mediators of the observed endothelial injury. First, widespread endothelial injury indicates antibody-mediated rejection. Second, IVIG bound strongly to donor endothelium, possibly causing immune activation. Finally, reactivation and replication of latent PCMV/PRV in the xenograft possibly initiated a damaging inflammatory response. Recent initiation of the first FDA-approved cardiac xenotransplantation suggests xenotransplantation could soon become a therapeutic option for patients unable to undergo allotransplantation. Until xenotransplantation is widely applied in clinical practice, consideration of benefit versus risk and approaches to management of clinical xenografts will based at least in part on observations made in experimental xenotransplantation in non-human primates. Indeed, the decision to proceed with clinical trials reflects significant progress in last few years in experimental solid organ and cellular xenotransplantation. Our laboratory at the NIH and now at University of Maryland contributed to this progress, with heterotopic cardiac xenografts surviving more than two years and life-supporting cardiac xenografts survival up to 9 months. Here we describe our contributions to the understanding of the mechanism of cardiac xenograft rejection and development of methods to overcome past hurdles, and finally we share our opinion on the remaining barriers to clinical translation. Topography of a place has a significant impact on soil characteristics that ultimately influence soil iodine levels. Lower Himalayan region (LHR) in Pakistan has a wide range of climatic and geological variations. Hence, an investigation was conducted to analyze the iodine concentration and other physicochemical properties of soils in two LHR districts, Haripur and Mansehra. Spatial analysis indicated a decrease in iodine levels in the mountainous regions in comparison to the flat portions of LHR. Soil samples obtained from different locations across Haripur had a stronger affinity for iodine due to variations in solubility and adsorption of iodine to soil clay components, which can be attributed to lower pH, higher organic matter, and a higher cation exchange capacity (CEC). In contrast to the plains of Haripur, elevated locations in the Mansehra district had decreased levels of iodine, along with a higher soil pH and reduced soil organic matter. The soil erosion and depletion of soil micronutrients in the hilly region of Mansehra may be attributed to the unfavorable soil conditions and excessive precipitation. Presence of clay, iron (Fe), and aluminum (Al) in the soil led to a rise in iodine levels. Iodine concentrations exhibited an inverse relationship with soil acidity. Study revealed a direct correlation between soil iodine levels and their cation exchange capacity (CEC) and clay content. We report orthotopic (life‐supporting) survival of genetically engineered porcine cardiac xenografts (with six gene modifications) for almost 9 months in baboon recipients. This work builds on our previously reported heterotopic cardiac xenograft (three gene modifications) survival up to 945 days with an anti‐CD40 monoclonal antibody‐based immunosuppression. In this current study, life‐supporting xenografts containing multiple human complement regulatory, thromboregulatory, and anti‐inflammatory proteins, in addition to growth hormone receptor knockout (KO) and carbohydrate antigen KOs, were transplanted in the baboons. Selective "multi‐gene" xenografts demonstrate survival greater than 8 months without the requirement of adjunctive medications and without evidence of abnormal xenograft thickness or rejection. These data demonstrate that selective "multi‐gene" modifications improve cardiac xenograft survival significantly and may be foundational for paving the way to bridge transplantation in humans. The urban agro-ecosystem in developing countries plays a major role in uplifting the socioeconomic status of their inhabitants by confronting the challenges of improving food security and eradicating hunger. Food security and safety has become a serious global concern owing to accumulation of phytotoxic metals and metalloids in different food commodities subjected to different contaminated irrigation sources. The current study was undertaken to assess the concentrations of heavy metals and metalloid in ridge gourd (Luffa cylindrica L.), its planting soil medium and irrigation water sources used for crop production to determine the health risk. The results showed that the mean concentrations of different metals and metalloids in ground water samples i.e. Ni (0.14 mg L-1), Fe (1.29 mg L-1), Cu (0.10 mg L-1), Pb (0.55 mg L-1), As (0.10 mg L-1), Cr (2.38 mg L-1) and Cd (0.05 mg L-1) were over the permissible limits. Soil samples irrigated with ground water showed that concentrations of Cd (23.67 mg kg-1), Cr (26.66 mg kg-1) and As (45.97 mg kg-1) were above the permissible limits. Similarly, vegetable samples irrigated with ground water had a higher level of Cd (0.33 mg kg-1) than their prescribed safe limits. The bio-concentration factor ranged from 0.00 to 8.21 for all irrigation sources. The target hazard quotients (THQ) for Zn, Fe, and Cr were higher than the threshold value when ridge gourd was consumed, indicating a health concern. Similarly, hazard index values were 5.05, 28, 27, and 1.01, from groundwater, canal water, and sewage water, respectively. Target Cancer Risk (TCR) exposed Ni, Cr, Cd and As in canal water were sources of high cancer risk and Pb showed moderate cancer risk for the local community. These findings suggest that human intake of ridge gourd vegetable from the studied area may pose health hazards. Hence, frequent monitoring of different irrigation streams used in urban and semi-urban agriculture is strongly recommended to manage higher concentrations of phytotoxic metals and metalloids in crop produce and their associated health risks for humans. In this study, we explore the impact of contractual governance (CG) on project performance (PP) under the mediation of project management risk (PMR). Contractual governance influences favorably IT projects performance in an emerging market context where the IT sector is growing. The principal-agent theory is used to build a research model that schedules project governance and IT project risk management. Data were collected from 295 IT professionals and the response rate was 73.75%. Smart PLS was employed to test proposed relationships. The findings postulate a strong causal relationship between the CG, PP and PMR. Fundamental elements (FE), change elements (CE), and governance elements (GE) have a significant positive relationship with project management risk (PMR), and PMR positively affects PP. Additionally, PMR mediates the relationship of FE, CE and GE with PP. Overall, the results of the study provide pragmatic visions for IT industry practitioners and experts, but the unscheduled risk to the IT industry may bring enormous harm. Consequently, effective and well-structured governance in a strategic way tends to improve the project performance by monitoring and managing both project risk and quality. In addition, the study empirically supports the significant impacts of project governance dimensions i.e., fundamental elements, change elements and governance elements on project management risk and project performance. A large number of the population is vulnerable to climate change living in urban areas all over the world. The decline in agricultural activities leads to food insecurity in urban areas. Urban gardening is promoted as a viable option to achieve food security and help reduce the climate impact in urban areas. Urban gardening can help reduce the carbon footprint, curtail food production's time and distribution costs, and offer food security and safety. Urban agriculture can be categorized as sustainable as it has economic, social, and climate impacts. The value-belief-norm framework is utilized to evaluate green gardening intentions and practices. The online survey collected cross-sectional data from 1,721 urban respondents in Malaysia. Based on the data analysis performed with structural equation modelling partial least square regression (SEM-PLS), it was found that the biospheric, egoistic, and altruistic values significantly influenced the new environmental paradigm. The environmental paradigm, awareness of consequences, and ascription of responsibility have significant positive effects on personal norms to engage in green gardening. The green trust and personal norms promote green gardening intention, subsequently leading to green gardening practices. A community-level effort is required to mitigate the climate change issue caused by urbanization and address food availability problems. Background Recently, we have shown that an immunosuppression regimen including costimulation blockade via anti-CD154 antibody significantly prolongs the cardiac xenograft survival in a GTKO.hCD46Tg pig-to-baboon heterotopic xenotransplantation model. Unfortunately, many coagulation disorders were observed with the use of anti-CD154 antibody, and recipient survival was markedly reduced by these complications. Material and Methods In this experiment, we replaced anti-CD154 antibody with a more clinically acceptable anti-CD40 antibody while keeping the rest of the immunosuppressive regimen and the donor pig genetics the same. This was carried out to evaluate the antibody's role in xenograft survival and prevention of coagulopathies. Two available clones of anti-CD40 antibody were tested. One mouse anti-human CD40 antibody, (clone 3A8), activated B lymphocytes in vitro and only modestly suppressed antibody production in vivo. Whereas a recombinant mouse non-human primate chimeric raised against macaque CD40, (clone 2C10R4), blocked B-cell activation in vitro and completely blocked antibody production in vivo. Results The thrombotic complications seen with anti-CD154 antibody were effectively avoided but the graft survival, although extended, was not as prolonged as observed with anti-CD154 antibody treatment. The longest survival for the 3A8 antibody group was 27 days, and the longest graft survival in the 2C10R4 antibody group was 146 days. All of the grafts except two rejected and were explanted. Only two recipient baboons had to be euthanized due to unrelated complications, and the rest of the baboons remained healthy throughout the graft survival period or after graft explantation. In contrast to our anti-CD 154 antibody-treated baboons, the non-Gal antibody levels started to rise after B cells made their appearance around 8 weeks post-transplantation. Conclusions Anti-CD40 antibody at the current dose does not induce any coagulopathies but while effective, had reduced efficacy to induce similar long-term graft survival as with anti-CD154 antibody perhaps due to ineffective control of B-cell function and antibody production at the present dose. The article discusses the implications of large animal xenograft models on clinical xenotransplantation of organs. It also presents the immunological barriers to clinical xenotransplantation of organs or organ transplantation across a species barrier. In the pig-to-nonhuman primate (NHP) combination, the binding of the xenogeneic natural antibody (XNA) with Galactose (Gal) led to graft rejection. Other barriers to xenotransplantation include the protest of animal rights activists and commercial considerations.

Globally, the rapid growth of the population over the past century has put enormous pressure on freshwater resources. Pakistan, as a developing country, also faces a freshwater crisis. Rawal Lake, an essential freshwater reservoir near Pakistan's capital, has been showing signs of deterioration for the past few years. Therefore, a brief study was planned to analyze the water quality of the lake and the associated recharge streams. Twelve physical and chemical parameters were selected along with the total bacterial and Escherichia coli count. Five sampling points were selected for water sampling. Results showed that the Mallpur stream significantly has higher pH, total suspended solids, and total dissolved solids values than the other sampling points and was not within the permissible limits of the World Health Organization. In the case of total bacterial count and Escherichia coli count, except Spillway, water samples showed higher concentrations than the permissible limits of world health organization. However, the mineral content such as Calcium, Magnesium, Nitrogen, Potassium, Chloride, and sulphate concentration at all sampling points are within the permissible limits of the world health organization's drinking water standard. Results also showed that the water sampled from the Korang River tributary has more deterioration in physicochemical properties as well as in total bacterial count than the Mallpur tributary. Background: Xenotransplantation has made tremendous progress over the last decade. Methods: We discuss kidney and heart xenotransplantation, which are nearing initial clinical trials. Results: Life sustaining genetically modified kidney xenografts can now last for approximately 500 days and orthotopic heart xenografts for 200 days in non‐human primates. Anti‐swine specific antibody screening, preemptive desensitization protocols, complement inhibition and targeted immunosuppression are currently being adapted to xenotransplantation with the hope to achieve better control of antibody‐mediated rejection (AMR) and improve xenograft longevity. These newest advances could probably facilitate future clinical trials, a significant step for the medical community, given that dialysis remains difficult for many patients and can have prohibitive costs. Performing a successful pig‐to‐human clinical kidney xenograft, that could last for more than a year after transplant, seems feasible but it still has significant potential hurdles to overcome. The risk/benefit balance is progressively reaching an acceptable equilibrium for future human recipients, e.g. those with a life expectancy inferior to two years. The ultimate question at this stage would be to determine if a "proof of concept" in humans is desirable, or whether further experimental/pre‐clinical advances are still needed to demonstrate longer xenograft survival in non‐human primates. Conclusion: In this review, we discuss the most recent advances in kidney and heart xenotransplantation, with a focus on the prevention and treatment of AMR and on the recipient's selection, two aspects that will likely be the major points of discussion in the first pig organ xenotransplantation clinical trials. Insect pests pose a major threat to agricultural production, resulting in significant economic losses for countries. A high infestation of insects in any given area can severely reduce crop yield and quality. This review examines the existing resources for managing insect pests and highlights alternative eco-friendly techniques to enhance insect pest resistance in legumes. Recently, the application of plant secondary metabolites has gained popularity in controlling insect attacks. Plant secondary metabolites encompass a wide range of compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids, which are often synthesized through intricate biosynthetic pathways. Classical methods of metabolic engineering involve manipulating key enzymes and regulatory genes to enhance or redirect the production of secondary metabolites in plants. Additionally, the role of genetic approaches, such as quantitative trait loci mapping, genome-wide association (GWAS) mapping, and metabolome-based GWAS in insect pest management is discussed, also, the role of precision breeding, such as genome editing technologies and RNA interference for identifying pest resistance and manipulating the genome to develop insect-resistant cultivars are explored, highlighting the positive contribution of plant secondary metabolites engineering-based resistance against insect pests. It is suggested that by understanding the genes responsible for beneficial metabolite compositions, future research might hold immense potential to shed more light on the molecular regulation of secondary metabolite biosynthesis, leading to advancements in insect-resistant traits in crop plants. In the future, the utilization of metabolic engineering and biotechnological methods may serve as an alternative means of producing biologically active, economically valuable, and medically significant compounds found in plant secondary metabolites, thereby addressing the challenge of limited availability. Partial heart transplantation is a new type of transplant that delivers growing heart valve replacements for babies. Partial heart transplantation differs from orthotopic heart transplantation because only the part of the heart containing the heart valve is transplanted. It also differs from homograft valve replacement because viability of the graft is preserved by tissue matching, minimizing donor ischemia times, and recipient immunosuppression. This preserves partial heart transplant viability and allows the grafts to fulfill biological functions such as growth and self‐repair. These advantages over conventional heart valve prostheses are balanced by similar disadvantages as other organ transplants, most importantly limitations in donor graft availability. Prodigious progress in xenotransplantation promises to solve this problem by providing an unlimited source of donor grafts. Start-ups are built by the charismatic leaders with innovative ideas, creativity, and distinguished expertise. However, they face huge challenges for growth and survival in an uncertain and competitive business eco-system. The aim of the present study is to examine the effect of entrepreneurial orientations with social media mediation on digital start-up sustainability. To conduct this research, active start-ups at the science and technology park of Tehran, Shiraz and Yazd universities have been identified in 2021. A 25-item questionnaire was used to collect data from 195 digital start-up managers. Data analysis has been done using SmartPLS3 software. The findings indicate that an innovative atmosphere, knowledge sharing and efficient communications have positive effects on the sustainability of digital startups, and the social media plays role as mediator. The results showed that social media contributes to increasing participation of employees in decision making process. Social media helps employees to share their knowledge, and establishes better interactions with the customers and stakeholders. As a result of better interaction, the company can respond to business challenges faster and operate in a more stable environment. We explore the relationship between strategic orientations (market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation), organizational ambidexterity, and sustained competitive advantage under the mediation of Industry 4.0 readiness. Based on data from a sample of 144 SMEs belonging to different economic sectors, we employed partial least squares–structural equation modeling to test our hypotheses. Empirical research suggests that market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation have a favorable relationship with Industry 4.0 readiness and sustainable competitive advantage. Moreover, our findings reveal that entrepreneurial orientation has a greater effect on SCA than market orientation in emerging markets. Furthermore, Industry 4.0 readiness acts as a full intermediary between strategic orientations and sustainable competitive advantage. This study contributes to the existing literature by exploring the relationship between strategic orientation and sustainable competitive advantage through Industry 4.0 as the mediator. Intention, as the starting point of pursuing self-employment and creating new ventures, is crucial before actually establishing a business enterprise. Entrepreneurship is understood to be an essential ingredient for enhancing a country's economic competitiveness, growth, and sustainability while confronting the escalating challenges of globalization, such as increasing unemployment. This study provides empirical evidence on the factors influencing entrepreneurial intention and startup preparations among university students in Malaysia. The findings provide scholars and academic policymakers with insights into the effectiveness of Malaysia's entrepreneurial education as designed and practiced by public universities. The Malaysian government should apply these findings to fortify existing policies and programs and formulate new ones to support graduate entrepreneurs, while universities and other higher education institutions should provide high-quality entrepreneurial courses and programs to young Malaysians to foster an inclination toward entrepreneurship. This paper explores farmers' perceptions of climate change vulnerability as well as the effects of socioeconomic factors and adaptation barriers on climate change adaptation practices in the Malaysian agricultural sector. To accomplish these aims, a multiple regression analysis was performed, and the severity index (SI) was estimated to measure perceived vulnerability context. The results revealed that age, education level, farm income, farm experience, limited access to agricultural extension, lack of credit facilities, limited access to agricultural markets, and farm size are factors which have significant impacts on adaptation practices. The value of the SI suggests that farmers have favourable attitudes towards climate change adaptation and they are agreeable to addressing climate change issues through appropriate adaptation strategies. However, the study found several adaptation barriers that hinder farmers from implementing climate change adaptation policies. It is realized that at present, no specific policy in Malaysia seeks to counter the impacts of climate change on individual sectors and their productivity. Therefore, the findings of this study will assist policymakers to make an appropriate policy framework considering most suitable adaptation strategies to overcome all the barriers associated with adaptation practices to tackle the adverse effects of climate change in Malaysian agriculture sector. Nitrate (NO3-1) leaching from soils results in the lower soil fertility, reduced crop productivity and increased water pollution. The effects of bentonite clay mixed with various nitrogen (N) fertilizers on NO3-1 leaching from sandy soils haven't been extensively studied. Therefore, the present lysimetric study determined NO3-1 leaching from bentonite [0, 2 and 4% (m/m)] treated sandy soil under three N sources (calcium nitrate [Ca(NO3)2], ammonium chloride [NH4Cl], and urea [CO(NH2)2] at the rate of 300 kg N ha-1). Results showed that bentonite markedly reduced NO3-1 release in the leachate, while 4% bentonite retained higher NO3 in the soil. The NO3-1 leaching from sandy soil varied with N sources as Ca(NO3)2 > NH4Cl > (CO(NH2)2. At early stages of leaching, higher concentrations of NO3-1 were detected in leachate with both NH4Cl and Ca(NO3)2, but leaching of NO3-1 increased with urea at later leaching stages. The amount of total NO3-1 retained in soil was conversely related to the amount of NO3-1 in the leachate. This study indicated that soil amendment with bentonite could efficiently mitigate NO3-1 leaching from sandy soil and hence prevent N fertilizer losses and groundwater pollution. We have been testing genetically engineered (GE) pig hearts and optimizing immunosuppression (IS) in non‐human primates (NHPs) since 2005. We demonstrate how we translated this preclinical investigation into a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)‐approved clinical cardiac xenotransplantation. First, genetically engineered (GE) pig hearts were transplanted into the abdomen of NHP along with IS, which included anti‐CD20 and anti‐CD40‐based co‐stimulation blockade antibodies. We reported 945 days of survival of three gene GE pig hearts in NHPs. Building on this proof‐of‐concept, we tested 3–10 gene‐modified GE pig hearts (in order to improve the immunocompatibility of the xenograft further) in a life‐supporting orthotopic model, but had limited success due to perioperative cardiac xenograft dysfunction (PCXD). With novel non‐ischemic continuous perfusion preservation (NICP), using the XVIVO Heart solution (XHS), life‐supporting survival was extended to 9 months. We approached the FDA under an application for "Expanded Access" (EA), to transplant a GE pig heart in a patient with end‐stage non‐ischemic cardiomyopathy. He was without other therapeutic options and dependent on VA‐ECMO. A team of FDA reviewers reviewed our preclinical research experience and data and allowed us to proceed. This clinical cardiac xenotransplantation was performed, and the patient survived for 60 days, demonstrating the translational preclinical investigation of cardiac xenotransplantation from bench to bedside. A 57-year-old man with nonischemic cardiomyopathy who was dependent on venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and was not a candidate for standard therapeutics, including a traditional allograft, received a heart from a genetically modified pig source animal that had 10 individual gene edits. Immunosuppression was based on CD40 blockade. The patient was weaned from ECMO, and the xenograft functioned normally without apparent rejection. Sudden diastolic thickening and failure of the xenograft occurred on day 49 after transplantation, and life support was withdrawn on day 60. On autopsy, the xenograft was found to be edematous, having nearly doubled in weight. Histologic examination revealed scattered myocyte necrosis, interstitial edema, and red-cell extravasation, without evidence of microvascular thrombosis - findings that were not consistent with typical rejection. This paper analyzes the effects of capital inflows on domestic investment in the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa (WAEMU). The WAEMU countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. Several studies have examined the conditions of attracting foreign capitals and their contributions to economic growth in sub-Saharan economies of WAEMU. However, very few studies have examined the effects of capital on domestic investment in national economies. In this respect, there are three types of foreign capital to be taken into account namely Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Official development Assistance (ODA) and Migrants Remittances (MR). FDI, ODA and MR are major sources of external capital flows in developing countries. The current empirical study is based on the theoretical model of Agosin and Mayer (2000) to test the hypothesis of crowding-out and crowding-in of domestic investments by different types of foreign capitals considered. The econometric estimates are based on the GMM method of Arellano and Bond (1991) applied to a panel of WAEMU countries over the period 1996-2011. The results of the study show that FDI crowds-out domestic firms in both the short and long term. Similarly, ODA have a lasting crowding-out effects on local investment. As for migrants' remittances, the econometric results show that they do not have a significant effect on domestic investment in the countries of the union. These findings imply that the host countries of the WAEMU should invest more on developing their absorptive capability to attract technology transfer oriented FDI, channel the ODA to develop vital infrastructure for rapid economic development and create conducive environment for the MR to divert towards productive investments to create more crowding-in effects in lieu of the crowding-out effects. Practically, the results of this study show that multinationals have a lasting crowding-out businesses in the WAEMU region. This is mainly due to the low technological absorption capacity of local firms and the lack of complementarity between local enterprises and multinational companies. Survival of pig cardiac xenografts in a non-human primate (NHP) model has improved significantly over the last 4 years with the introduction of costimulation blockade based immunosuppression (IS) and genetically engineered (GE) pig donors. The longest survival of a cardiac xenograft in the heterotopic (HHTx) position was almost 3 years and only rejected when IS was stopped. Recent reports of cardiac xenograft survival in a lifesustaining orthotopic (OHTx) position for 6 months is a significant step forward. Despite these achievements, there are still several barriers to the clinical success of xenotransplantation (XTx). This includes the possible transmission of porcine pathogens with pig donors and continued xenograft growth after XTx. Both these concerns, and issues with additional incompatibilities, have been addressed recently with the genetic modification of pigs. Background: Heart valve replacement in neonates and infants is one of the remaining unsolved problems in cardiac surgery because conventional valve prostheses do not grow with the children. Similarly, heart valve replacement in children and young adults with contraindications to anticoagulation remains an unsolved problem because mechanical valves are thrombogenic and bioprosthetic valves are prone to early degeneration. Therefore, there is an urgent clinical need for growing heart valve replacements that are durable without the need for anticoagulation.Methods: A human cadaver model was used to develop surgical techniques for aortic valve xenotransplantation.Results: Aortic valve xenotransplantation is technically feasible. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of risk tolerance, financial well-being, financial literacy, overconfidence bias, herding behavior, and social interaction on stock market investment intention and stock market participation among working adults in Malaysia. Adopting the cross-sectional design, this study collected quantitative data from a total of 349 respondents in an online survey via Google form link across various social media platforms. This study used the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach to test the hypotheses. This study revealed the significant positive effects of risk tolerance, herding behavior, and social interaction on stock market investment intention. Stock market investment intention also had a significant effect on stock market participation. Stock market investment intention was also found to successfully mediate the relationships of risk tolerance and overconfidence bias with stock market participation. When it comes to stock market investment, the government and related authorities should focus on developing programs and policies that provide a financial safety net for investors and promote investment-related social platforms. This study linked risk tolerance, financial well-being, financial literacy, overconfidence bias, herding behavior, social interaction, stock market investment intention, and stock market participation. This study investigates the impact of influential antecedents on the adoption of Industry 4.0 and sustainable performance in organizations. It addresses the challenges organizations face in adopting Industry 4.0 and the limited research on the relationship between Industry 4.0 and organizational performance, particularly sustainability. The study analyzes direct effect of Industry 4.0 on sustainable outcomes and evaluates the mediating role of Industry 4.0 in the relationship between antecedents and sustainable performance. Data from 293 Malaysian companies was used to develop the higher-order model and disjoint two-stage approach in Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyze the relationships. The results indicate that smart technologies, management support, human capital and the government’s role significantly influence Industry 4.0 implementation. These factors also have a significant impact on organizations’ sustainable performance. However, while human capital has emerged as an antecedent of Industry 4.0, its impact on sustainable performance is insignificant. The mediation of Industry 4.0 and its direct effect on sustainable performance were also confirmed. The validated model provides valuable insights for professionals and policy-makers to plan effectively and optimize resource utilization in implementing Industry 4.0 with a focus on sustainability. Recommendations for future research include longitudinal studies, cross-country validation, and exploring other antecedents and their impact on organizations’ digital innovation and sustainable performance. Post‐transplantation cardiac xenograft growth in an orthotopic pig to baboon model is a life‐limiting phenomenon that is poorly understood. Possible causes of growth include both intrinsic and extrinsic etiologies. Extrinsic causes are thought to be attributed to maladaptive hypertrophy as a result of increased mean arterial pressure experienced by the cardiac xenograft after transplantation. Intrinsic causes are thought to be a result of discordant growth between pig xenografts and recipients. This results in intrinsic xenograft growth that parallels the donor and continues in a recipient in which growth is relatively minimal, controlled in part by the growth hormone receptor, IGF‐1 axis. Recently, Zaman, et al. published a study titled, "Selective loss of resident macrophage‐derived insulin‐like growth factor‐1 abolishes adaptive cardiac growth to stress," in Immunity, Volume 54; Issue 9, pp. 2057–2071. They demonstrated that insulin growth factor‐secreting resident macrophages that sense hypertensive stress are a mechanistic link to hypertension and maladaptive hypertrophy in the setting of hypertension. While notable in its own right, we comment on how this work may shed light on a new underlying mechanism for the use of growth hormone receptor knockout (GHRKO) pig donors and its role in addressing post‐transplantation xenograft growth. We hypothesize that GHRKO pig donors contain syngeneic resident cardiac macrophages that abrogate IGF‐1 mediated maladaptive hypertrophy from hypertension. Heterotopic cardiac transplantation in the intra-abdominal position in a large animal model has been essential in the progression of the field of cardiac transplantation. Our group has over 10 years of experience in cardiac xenotransplantation with pig to baboon models, the longest xenograft of which survived over 900 days, with rejection only after reducing immunosuppression. This article aims to clarify our approach to this model in order to allow others to share success in long-term survival. Here, we demonstrate the approach to implantation of a cardiac graft into the intra-abdominal position in a baboon recipient for the study of transplantation and briefly highlight our model's ability to provide insight into not only xenotransplantation but across disciplines. We include details that have provided us with consistent success in this model; performance of the anastomoses, de-airing of the graft, implantation of a long-term telemetry device for invasive graft monitoring, and ideal geometric positioning of the heart and telemetry device in the limited space of the recipient abdomen. Wounds, burns, cuts, and scarring may cause a serious problem for human health if left untreated, and medicinal plants are identified as potentially useful for wound healing. Therefore, the study focused on ethnophytotherapy practices for wound healing from an unexplored area, Pakistan. Ethnophytotherapeutic information was collected through well-planned questionnaire and interview methods by targeting 80 informants (70 males and 10 females), in the study area. Data was analyzed through quantitative tools like use value (UV) and credibility level (CL). A total of forty wound healing plant species, belonging to twenty-nine families, were being used in forty-six recipes. Herbs constitute (35%), shrubs (30%), trees (30%), and climbers (5%) in the treatment of multiple human injuries. For remedies preparations, leaves were most frequently utilized (52%) followed by whole plant, flowers, twigs, roots, bulb, bark, rhizome, resin, oil, leaf gel, latex, gum, and creeper. The most form of herbal preparation was powder (34.7%) and poultice (32.6%), followed by decoction, bandaged and crushed, in which 40% internally and 60 % externally applied. The drugs from these plants seem to be widely used to cure wounds: Acacia modesta, Aloe barbadensis, Azadirachta indica, Ficus benghalensis, Nerium oleander, and Olea ferruginea with higher use values (0.75). Local people are still connected with ethnophytotherapies practices for curing wounds for several reasons. This ethnomedicine and the wound healing plants are under severe threats; thus conservation must be considered. This study argues that improved working practices acquired from intra-firm technology transfers are a crucial source of organizational sustainability. This study used 252 subsidiaries of foreign-based multinational corporations located in Peninsular Malaysia as a quantitative data source. The findings revealed that market environment, cultural factors, and absorptive capacity significantly improved working practices, which in turn significantly and positively affected the social and environmental sustainability of firms. We recommend that the government of Malaysia formulate and adopt more market-friendly policies while simultaneously providing both insight on the various cultural norms of foreign nations and higher education and training for its citizens to maximize knowledge transfer following foreign investment, which is beneficial for both the host country and the organizations involved. Abstract In order to address the issues of climate change through wise management of resources and environmental conservation, this study examined the intention and behavior towards green consumption among low-income households. This study was a cross-sectional that relied on 380 low-income household respondents who lived in coastal areas of Peninsular Malaysia. The findings revealed a positive effect of eco-literacy and self-efficacy on attitude towards green products. Subsequently, the findings also ascertained a positive effect of attitude and perceived behavioral control on intention and consumption of green products. In addition, both scholars and policymakers can rely on these findings to increase the intention and behavior towards the consumption of green products in order to reduce the environmental vulnerability to the coastal communities. Therefore, responsible organizations should implement programs and policies that minimize the adverse effects of climate change through resource management and environmental conservation by promoting the use of green products among Malaysians. Background Observational studies suggest that cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) is a biomarker of tissue injury in a range of conditions including organ transplantation. However, the lack of model systems to study cfDNA and its relevance to tissue injury has limited the advancements in this field. We hypothesized that the predictable course of acute humoral xenograft rejection (AHXR) in organ transplants from genetically engineered donors provides an ideal system for assessing circulating cfDNA as a marker of tissue injury. Methods Genetically modified pig donor hearts were heterotopically transplanted into baboons ( n = 7). Cell-free DNA was extracted from pre-transplant and post-transplant baboon plasma samples for shotgun sequencing. After alignment of sequence reads to pig and baboon reference sequences, we computed the percentage of xenograft-derived cfDNA (xdcfDNA) relative to recipient by counting uniquely aligned pig and baboon sequence reads. Results The xdcfDNA percentage was high early post-transplantation and decayed exponentially to low stable levels (baseline); the decay half-life was 3.0 days. Post-transplantation baseline xdcfDNA levels were higher for transplant recipients that subsequently developed graft loss than in the 1 animal that did not reject the graft (3.2% vs 0.5%). Elevations in xdcfDNA percentage coincided with increased troponin and clinical evidence of rejection. Importantly, elevations in xdcfDNA percentage preceded clinical signs of rejection or increases in troponin levels. Conclusion Cross‐species xdcfDNA kinetics in relation to acute rejection are similar to the patterns in human allografts. Compared to traditional therapeutic strategies, three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is one of the most advanced techniques for creating complicated cardiovascular implants with biomimetic features, which are capable of recapitulating both the native physiochemical and biomechanical characteristics of the cardiovascular system. The present review provides an overview of the cardiovascular system, as well as describes the principles of, and recent advances in, 3D bioprinting cardiovascular tissues and models. Moreover, this review will focus on the applications of 3D bioprinting technology in cardiovascular repair/regeneration and pharmacological modeling, further discussing current challenges and perspectives. Abstract: Background: CD4+CD25HiFoxP3+ T (Treg) cells are a small subset of CD4+ T cells that have been shown to exhibit immunoregulatory function. Although the absolute number of Treg cells in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) is very small, they play an important role in suppressing immune reactivity. Several studies have demonstrated that the number of Treg cells, rather than their intrinsic suppressive capacity, may contribute to determining the long‐term fate of transplanted grafts. In this study, we analyzed Treg cells in PBL of long‐term baboon recipients who have received genetically modified cardiac xenografts from pig donors. Methods: Heterotopic cardiac xenotransplantation was performed on baboons using hearts obtained from GTKO.hCD46 (n = 8) and GTKO.hCD46.TBM (n = 5) genetically modified pigs. Modified immunosuppression regimen included antithymocyte globulin (ATG), anti‐CD20, mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), cobra venom factor (CVF), and costimulation blockade (anti‐CD154/anti‐CD40 monoclonal antibody). FACS analysis was performed on PBLs labeled with anti‐human CD4, CD25, and FoxP3 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) to analyze the percentage of Treg cells in six baboons that survived longer than 2 months (range: 42‐945 days) after receiving a pig cardiac xenograft. Results: Total WBC count was low due to immunosuppression in baboons who received cardiac xenograft from GTKO.hCD46 and GTKO.hCD46.hTBM donor pigs. However, absolute numbers of CD4+CD25HiFoxP3 Treg cells in PBLs of long‐term xenograft cardiac xenograft surviving baboon recipients were found to be increased (15.13 ± 1.50 vs 7.38 ± 2.92; P < .018) as compared to naïve or pre‐transplant baboons. Xenograft rejection in these animals was correlated with decreased numbers of regulatory T cells. Conclusion: Our results suggest that regulatory T (Treg) cells may contribute to preventing or delaying xenograft rejection by controlling the activation and expansion of donor‐reactive T cells, thereby masking the antidonor immune response, leading to long‐term survival of cardiac xenografts. Background Innovations in transgenic technology have facilitated improved xenograft survival. Additional gene expression appears to be necessary to overcome the remaining immune and biologic incompatibilities. We report for the first time the novel use of six-gene modifications within a pig-to-baboon cardiac xenotransplantation model. Methods Baboons (8-15 kg) underwent heterotopic cardiac transplantation using xenografts obtained from genetically engineered pigs. Along with previously described modifications ( GTKO, hCD46), additional expression of human transgenes for thromboregulation (endothelial protein C receptor, tissue factor pathway inhibitor, thrombomodulin), complement inhibition (decay accelerating factor), and cellular immune suppression ( hCD39, hCD47) was used. Immunosuppression consisted of targeted T-cell and B-cell depletion and conventional anti-rejection agents. Results Heterotopic cardiac transplantations were performed without complication. Flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry on donor biopsies confirmed transgenic phenotype. In contrast to the prior three-gene generation, significant coagulopathy or consumptive thrombocytopenia has not been observed in the six-gene cohort. As a result, these recipients have experienced decreased bleeding-related complications. Pro-inflammatory responses also appear to be mitigated based on cytokine analysis. Baboons survived the critical 30-day post-operative period when mortality has historically been highest, with no evidence of graft rejection. Conclusions The inclusion of additional human genes in genetically engineered pigs appears to confer superior xenograft outcomes. Introduction of these genes has not been associated with adverse outcomes.
