Rights of women are one of the widely discussed yet debatable issues across the Western and Muslim world. It is seen in the Muslim societies that many women are deprived in terms of inheriting property after the demise of their parents. This is largely happening due to the negligence of practicing Islamic teachings regarding inheritance at individual and family level. However, Islam has placed a dignified position for women in family and society in all sectors. Particularly the principle of inheritance of property has been clearly stated in the holy Qur’an. In this background, this paper emphasises on exploring (a) Qur’anic and Prophetic stand on women’s right to inheritance, (b) the main obstacles that impede women in getting inheritance rights in family and its remedies from the Islamic perspectives. This paper adopts an analytical approach to study this vital issue. Under this approach, the study analyses the relevant data from the two fundamental sources of Islam, Qur’an and Sunnah, along with jurisprudential views and provides solutions to solve the problems related to Muslim women’s inheritance right in family. Findings of this paper indicated that if the Muslim family practices the Islamic teachings regarding the distribution of inheritance among the heirs, it will eradicate the existing discrimination among men and women in this regard and enable women’s financial steadiness in family and society.

The development of science of tafsir and hadith in Malaysia is quite advanced. However both are not formally established as a discipline of science. The discussion is more towards the science of tafsir and hadith commentary itself rather than studying the problems in society and its solutions from the perspective of Qur’an and Sunnah. Employing qualitative method, this paper aims at studying the experience of Malaysia in the development of science of tafsir and hadithstudies, the historical overview and its impact towards educational system and other Islamic instutions, such as Shariah judicial and financial system. The paper also seeks to identify the challenges and obstacles that might have hindered the progress of developing a more integrated methodology of science of tafsir and hadith studies that may offer practical solutions to address the current religious, socio-political and economic problems facing the Muslim society from the Qur’an and hadith perspectives. Keywords: Development of tafsir and hadith, Malaysian education. Abstrak Pembangunan ilmu tafsir dan hadis begitu maju ke hadapan dalam konteks Malaysia. Walau bagaimanapun, kedua-duanya tidak begitu menonjol sebagai satu bidang sains yang penting. Perbincangan tafsir dan hadis lebih fokus kepada penilaian dan perbincangan isi kandungannya daripada menawarkan solusi kepada masalah masyarakat yang perlu diselesaikan. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif dalam menganalisis perkembangan serta latar belakang ilmu tafsir dan hadis dan kesannya terhadap sistem pendidikan dan institusi Islam seperti Mahkamah Syariah dan sistem kewangan. Kajian ini cuba untuk mengenal pasti cabaran yang mungkin membantut perjalanan ilmu tafsir dan hadis dalam meneliti kaedah yang lebih tepat untuk mencari jawapan yang praktikal dalam menangani isu agama, sosio-politik dan masalah ekonomi dalam kalangan Muslim. Muslim theology admits on diversity of faiths followed by mankind. The existence of religious diversity is aimed at, among other things, seeking a common ground in disseminating goodness and eradicating evil practices in the community. The study attempts to reveal the guidelines on religious dialogue from the passages of the Qur’an. The Qur’an emphasizes on the importance of communication and dialogue especially with the People of the Book. The Prophetic tradition also indicates on presence of other religious adherents. They are expected to work together in promoting goodness and establishing justice on the basis of divine precepts. Moreover, it highlights the importance of dialogue with different religious groups, as well as the prospect to wipe off misunderstandings that can lead into communal tension and crisis. The study will also shed light on the obstacles faced by religious leaders in conducting the dialogue and to contributing to the promotion of peace and justice. The most important part is that it attempts to expose the ethical guidelines as stated in the Qur’an which could be adopted as principles of dialogue. It is not aimed at condemning other faiths; rather it is aimed at exposing awareness on the differences and similarities which, in the long run, can give chance to restoring misconceptions.
