Abstract Sepsis has affected millions of populations of all age groups, locations, and sexes worldwide. Immune systems, either innate or adaptive are dysregulated due to the infection. Various biomarkers are present to date, still sepsis is a primary cause of mortality. Globally, post-operative body infections can cause sepsis and septic shock in ICU. Abnormal antigen presentation to T-cells leads to a dysregulated immune system. miRNAs are sparkly evolved as biomarkers due to their high sensitivity and efficiency. In this work, we analyzed high-throughput mRNA data collected from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and linked it to significant miRNAs and TFs using a network-based approach. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using sepsis-specific differentially expressed genes (DEGs) followed by enrichment analyses and hub module detection. Sepsis-linked decrease transcription of the classical HLA gene such as HLA-DPB1 and its interplay with miR-let-7b-5p and transcription factor SPIB was observed. This study helped to provide innovative targets for sepsis.

The electric power systems are interconnected for the economical and reliable operation of power supply systems. An interconnection of power systems can be implemented through AC and DC links. A variable frequency transformer (VFT) has emerged as an alternative for asynchronous interconnection, like back-to-back HVDC links. Unlike back-to-back HVDC links, VFT requires reduced reactive power, offers quicker incipient transient recovery, and has coherent damping ability. Various control strategies have been proposed in the literature to achieve the controllable and reliable operation of VFT. The VFT can be scalable for high power exchange by implementing the VFT Park model. The VFT is essentially a doubly-fed induction machine (DFIM) based system that needs slip rings and brushes in the rotor circuit. Hence, brushless doubly-fed induction machine (BDFIM) based VFT systems and their various topologies are proposed in the literature. In this paper, a comprehensive review is carried out, which includes: power system networks interconnection philosophy, power flow controllers used in the interconnected networks, FACTS controllers, and HVDC link with their technical merits and limitations. A comparison of VFT with its counter technology back-to-back HVDC link is also elaborated, which suggests VFT a better option for asynchronous grid interconnection. Moreover, a thorough literature review is done concerning VFT configuration, controls, and scaling with research papers and patents. Furthermore, detailed mathematical modeling of the VFT system is also carried out along with the numerical simulations under both steady-state and various fault conditions using PSCAD/EMTDC software.

Abstract Purpose Although the intellectual capital (IC) has already received much attention from the researchers in the field of innovation performance, there is still a paucity in measuring the role of IC in venture creation. The present study is an attempt to examine the influence of IC on start-ups. Methodology In this study, a large data set of 3413 respondents from India has been used. The data has been provided by the largest entrepreneurship research project GEM. A logistic regression technique has been applied to measure the influence of IC on entrepreneurial intentions. Findings It has been found that the components of intellectual capital, i.e., knowledge and skills, entrepreneurial opportunities, knowing other entrepreneurs, business angel, and educational level have a positive and significant impact on the entrepreneurial intentions. Contribution To the best of our knowledge, it is among the initial studies, which have examined the relationship between intellectual capital and entrepreneurial intentions. Only a few studies have already been done in developing countries like India by using a large data set.

Background and Aim: Tissue repair surrounding implants is essential for the cosmetic maxillary anterior zone to respond favorably to implant therapy. Grafting platelets from an individual’s blood was developed to overcome the esthetic requirements and speed up healing. Advanced platelet-rich fibrin (APRF) and concentrated growth factor (CGF) are used for good healing. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of APRF and CGF on healing of tissues around dental implants in the anterior region of the maxilla. Materials and Methods: A total of 60 patients who underwent dental implant placement procedures were included in this study. They were divided into two categories: category 1 consisted of patients who underwent dental implant placement procedures without APRF and CGF (n = 30) and category 2 consisted of patients who underwent dental implant placement procedures with APRF and CGF (n = 30). Assessment of alveolar bone height and bone density was conducted using CBCT at baseline and second, fourth, and sixth month postoperatively. Results: The alveolar height and alveolar bone density in APRF group and CGF group patients was greater compared to control group patients at all follow-ups. Conclusion: APRF and CGF have a positive effect on the tissues around dental implants, promoting faster and better tissue healing around dental implants.

BACKGROUND: Nitrogen [N] is a critical limiting nutrient for plants and has to be exogenously supplied to many crops, to achieve high yield with significant economic and environmental costs, specifically for rice. Development of low-input nitrogen sustainable crop is necessary for sustainable agriculture. Identification of regulatory elements associated with low-N tolerance is imperative for formulating innovative approaches for developing low-N tolerant crop plants, using gene manipulation. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known to play crucial roles in the modulation of gene expression in plants under various environmental conditions. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: MiRNAs associated with low-N tolerance have not been identified so far. In this study, we investigated microarray-based miRNA expression in low-N tolerant and low-N sensitive rice genotypes under low N condition. Expressions of 32 miRNAs differed significantly in the two genotypes. Of these 32 miRNAs, expressions of nine miRNAs were further validated experimentally in leaves as well as in roots. Of these differentially expressed miRNAs, six miRNAs (miR156, miR164, miR528, miR820, miR821 and miR1318) were reported in leaves and four (miR164, miR167, miR168 and miR528) in roots. Target genes of all the 32 miRNAs were predicted, which encode transcription factors, and proteins associated with metabolic processes or stress responses. Expression levels of some of the corresponding miRNA targets were analysed and found to be significantly higher in low N-tolerant genotype than low-N sensitive genotype. These findings suggested that miRNAs played an important role in low-N tolerance in rice. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Genome-wide differences in expression of miRNA in low N-tolerant and low N-sensitive rice genotypes were reported. This provides a platform for selection as well as manipulation of genotypes for better N utilization efficiency.

Anaerobic digestion produces biogas, which is a proven bioprocess for generating energy, recovering nutrients, and reusing waste materials. Generally, the biogas generated contains methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in a 3:2 ratio, which limits the usage of the biogas to only cooking gas. To further enhance the application of biogas to vehicular fuel and natural gas grids, CO2 must be removed for an enhanced calorific value. This study seeks to lower greenhouse gas emissions by sequestering carbon dioxide from biogas. CO2 sequestration by microorganisms to upgrade the biogas and simultaneously convert the CO2 into acetic acid is a less explored area of research. Therefore, this research focuses mainly on the analysis of CO2 consumption % and acetic acid yield by novel isolated bacteria from fruit waste and mixed consortia obtained from cow dung and digested samples. The research finding states that there was a 32% increase in methane yield shown by isolated strain A1, i.e., CH4% was increased from 60% to 90%, whereas only an 11% increase was shown by consortia, which was an increase from 60% to 80%. The highest biogas upgradation was shown by the A1 strain at 30 °C incubation temperature and pH 8. The A1 strain demonstrated the highest recorded yield of acetic acid, reaching a concentration of 2215 mg/L at pH 8. A pH range of 7–8 was found to be the best-suited pH, and a mesophilic temperature was optimum for CO2 consumption and acetic acid production. The major objective is to create an effective method for improving biogas so that it is acceptable for different energy applications by lowering the carbon dioxide content and raising the methane content. This development signifies a significant advancement in the enhancement of biogas upgradation, as well as the concurrent generation of value-added goods, thereby establishing a sustainable platform technology.
