Herein, we have developed a tool for monitoring the outdoor performance of dye-sensitized solar cells. In this regard, a new dye consisting of an N-aryl-substituted imidazole with N-alkylated carbazole as the donor and cyanoacrylic acid as the acceptor has been designed. The overall power conversion efficiency of the designed dye reached ∼50%, with respect to that of the N719-based device (4%) under similar experimental conditions. Further, the device was interfaced with an IoT system, which measured the voltage and transmitted the device parameters to the user's mobile phone through a cloud channel. Mercury ion (Hg2+) sensor based on bottom gate top contact organic thin film transistor (OTFT) was fabricated. The OTFT channel area was functionalized with pyrene that contain thiol group, which has strong binding affinity toward Hg2+ ion. The OTFT sensor exhibited a charge mobility of 0.28 cm2 V−1 s−1, a threshold voltage of −22.3 V and on-to-off ratio 103. The sensor shows high selectivity to Hg2+ ion over other two valence metal ions. OTFT sensor exhibited high sensitivity to Hg2+ ion, indicated by increasing of drain current after exposed to different concentration of Hg2+ ion ranging from 1 mM to 0.01 μM. Moreover, the OTFT sensor capability for practical application was also demonstrated by sensing the present of 25 μM of Hg2+ ion in tap, drinking and seawater samples.

Bimetallic nickel molybdenum disulfide (NiMoS2) thin films were fabricated on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates using pulsed laser deposition and employed as counter electrode in solar energy conversion devices. Krypton fluoride (KrF) excimer laser was used as source for fabricating NiMoS2 thin films. The energetic active sites of the NiMoS2 were tuned under in-situ temperature conditions (room temperature and 600 °C). The quantitative and qualitative analyses of the fabricated materials were examined using various characterization techniques. Active modes of Raman vibrations in correspondence with NiMoS2 are observed from Raman spectra and the presence of 2H pristine (MoS2) and hexagonal (Ni) phase are determined from XRD analysis. The surface morphology of fabricated NiMoS2 thin films was dynamically visualized from FESEM analysis. The JV characteristic performance of the pulsed laser deposited NiMoS2 counter electrode analyzed using solar simulator at illumination of 100 mW/cm2. NiMoS2 employed DSSCs exhibits a photo-conversion efficiency of ∼4.80%.

Free-standing graphene (FSG) paper plays a vital role in a wide variety of applications as an electrode material. Specifically, the electrical properties of FSG are the most important factor affecting its use as an electrode material. Herein, the vacuum filtration technique is utilized to fabricate GO paper, which is then reductively treated with HI. Initially, the electrical conductivity is measured for GO papers with different thicknesses by varying the concentration of GO precursor as well as the reduction time. The FSG paper with a thickness of 3 microns exhibits the lowest sheet resistance and further characterization is carried out to reveal the origin of this enhancement of electrical properties. The low resistance is attributed to its crystalline nature, stacking height (Lc), in-plane crystallite size (La) and defect density (nD). Meanwhile, iodide ions intercalated into the graphene layers act as hole-carriers, and their intercalation is favoured over adsorption at the surface.

Two dimensional molybdenum disulphide thin films are fabricated via pulsed laser ablation technique and used as counter electrode for photovoltaic devices. MoS2 thin films are laser ablated using KrF excimer laser, the parameters like temperature and thickness of thin films being controlled under in-situ condition. The effects of parameters on the laser ablated MoS2 thin film exhibit a superior electrocatalytic activity thereby indicating an ability to be employed as a counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells. With increase in temperature, there is an improvement in crystallinity which leads to enhancement of active sites in MoS2 resulting into its effectual for use in the photo-conversion devices. Raman and XRD studies clearly confirm the formation of MoS2 and its associated phase structure. The crystalline nature and interlayer spacing of stacked MoS2 structure are observed from HRTEM. The growth and thickness of MoS2 thin films are evaluated from FESEM and AFM. Electrocatalytic behaviour of laser ablated films are carefully investigated and its photovoltaic performances are analyzed. MoS2 films fabricated under room temperature delivers photo-conversion efficiency of 1.48%, while on the increasing temperature and thickness of MoS2 films it delivers four times increase in efficiency up to 5.66% under one sun condition.

D−π–A, D–A−π–A, and other configuration-based organic dyes have shown great potential in the field of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Compared with traditional configurations, D–D′–A offers several advantages such as enrichment of the electron-donating ability, absorption spectral region, and molar extinction coefficient and inhibits dye aggregation. Hence, in this work, a novel D–D′–A-type dye has been designed and synthesized for DSC applications. In this configuration, substituted imidazole has been used as a primary donor, phenothiazine as an auxiliary donor, and cyanoacetic acid as an acceptor/anchoring group. Structural characterizations of a D–D′–A-type dye were done by using NMR and electron ionization–mass spectrometry. The increasing application of nanoparticles both in industries and in agricultural fields has led to its accumulation in the aquatic ecosystem through water run-off. Insights into the validity of safer nanoparticles such as gold and chitosan are fairly established. However, its effect on aquatic invertebrates has been less studied. The present study was aimed to study effects of chitosan reduced gold nanoparticles (CRGNPs) during green fluorescent protein (GFP) encoding plasmid delivery in giant freshwater prawn, macrobrachium rosenbergii. The mean particle size and zeta potential CRGNPs was 33.7 nm and 24.79 mV respectively. Prawn juveniles were exposed to nanoparticles concentrations (10 µg/L, 20 µg/L) of CRGNPs by immersion treatment for a period of 36 hours. GFP was ubiquitously expressed in muscle tissues of prawns. The comet assay indicated dose dependent genotoxicity of CRGNPs in gill, pleopod and muscle tissues which was in conformity with its bioaccumulation pattern in vivo. The highest bioaccumulation of CRGNPs was found in Gills, followed by pleopods and least in muscles. Hence, the toxicological potential of CRGNPs to the environment cannot be denied and demands more research on the particular aspect. The doses standardized in the present study would be helpful in safer nano-gene delivery in aquatic invertebrates and development of transgenics employing less cost.

In this study, eco-friendly PTCDI-C8–based organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) were fabricated by incorporating polymers from renewable sources as gate dielectrics and substrates. Chitosan, a polysaccharide obtained from the deacetylation of chitin, and natural rubber (NR), extracted from natural rubber tree, have good dielectric properties, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. To examine the practical applicability of these materials, we fabricated OTFTs using bilayer PVPy/NR and chitosan/NR films as gate dielectric materials. NR not only improved the insulation properties of the dielectric film but also acted as a surface modifier. The fabricated OTFT incorporating chitosan/NR dielectric operated under a low driving voltage, with values of μ and Vth of 0.027 cm2V−1s−1 and 0.83 V, respectively. It also displayed an electrical response in the presence of DNA at different concentrations. Because, chitosan possesses high transparency and good mechanical properties, it can be readily cast to form transparent flexible substrates. Accordingly, a flexible disposable OTFT device was fabricated using PVPy/NR as the dielectric material on chitosan as the substrate. The disposable device exhibited a carrier mobility of 0.011 cm2V−1s−1, a value of Vth of 0.83 V, and an on/off ratio of 103, while being workable over 100 bending cycles.

Recent developments in organic-inorganic halide perovskite solar cells created a sudden buzz in renewable energy community. Within a short span of time, the efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) soared from 2.1% (2006) to 22.1% (2017) by varying each component and device configuration. Recent works have been concentrated on the potential of PSCs to emerge as an economical technology. Elimination of hole transport material (HTM) and metal counter electrode in PSCs can overcome high cost and stability issues. In this review, we outline the recent research progress on the metal cathode and HTM-free PSCs, which is a prospective solution to meet the growing energy demands. Carbon materials are used as an alternative to the conventional metal cathode since, carbon materials possess unique qualities such as low cost, high stability, good conductivity and inherent water resistance. Introduction and discussions of this article include the evolution of PSCs, cost, device architectures, deposition techniques, the thickness of the spacer, morphology of counter electrode and stability.

Magnesium ions incorporated calcium phosphate was synthesized by wet chemical route and followed by microwave assisted method. XRD analysis was confirmed that the presence of calcium phosphate (hydroxyapatite). TEM analysis was exhibited rod-like morphology. XRF results were showed the percentage of calcium, phosphate, magnesium and oxygen. There was a slight blue shift observed in magnesium ions based samples. Higher magnesium (0.1 Mg-HAp) was revealed the greater discharging time with capacitance voltage (0.55 V). Magnesium based calcium phosphate was showed prolonged rate of drug release. At higher frequency, the Nyquist plot was showed the electrochemical behavior, however at lower frequency, revealed mass transfer process. Magnesium ions tailor the specific capacitance of calcium phosphate. Therefore, magnesium ions based phosphate samples could be an outstanding multifunctional candidate for drug release and supercapacitor applications.

The effect of air processed polymer solar cells fabricated from conjugated polymers and fullerene derivatives poly (3-hexylthiophene) and [6, 6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester functioning as donor and acceptor materials. The device architecture was (Cs2CO3/P3HT: PCBM/V2O5/Al). The spin rate of the Cs2CO3 and P3HT: PCBM layer was subjected to be varied and its device performance were evaluated. The basic characterizations such as UV–Vis spectrum, PL spectra, FTIR, XRD, FESEM, EDAX, AFM and I–V studies were performed for all the materials used for fabricating the devices. The performance of the device demonstrated under air-processed conditions delivers a photo-conversion efficiency of 0.1% initially. The scaling up of the self-organized active layer can be achieved by varying and controlling the spin casting and the evaporation rate at room temperature. After varying the spin conditions the fabricated devices were tested under the same conditions and photo-conversion efficiency enhances from 0.1 to 1.43% with the Jsc of 5.6 mA cm−2; Voc of 0.55 V and FF of 0.454. The device performance can be further enhanced by controlling the exposure of the electrode materials by masking.

One-dimensional (1D) rutile phase of TiO2 such as branched nanorods, unidirectional nanorods (NRs), nanorods composed microspheres were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method. CdSe Quantum dots was anchored on the TiO2 surface. The well-controlled and different nano-morphology were achieved by simply controlling hydrothermal reaction time of 4 h, 6 h and 8 h. The synthesized TiO2/CdSe were characterized by XRD, UV–Visible, SEM-EDX, and J-V characteristic studies. The rutile phase unidirectional NRs show 1.76% of solar cell efficiency owing to its high electron transport performance during fabrication. Our results shows that,the potentiality of TiO2/CdSe in innovative photoanode to attain improved performance of solar cell.

Highly catalytic two dimensional and metal-doped two-dimensional nanomaterials (MoS2 and NiMoS) were deposited over free-standing graphene (FSG) paper using electrodeposition method and subsequently used as a counter electrode in quasi solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (q-DSSCs). The replacement of FTO by FSG facilitates high electrical conductivity and electrodeposited metal sulphides provide electrocatalytic activity. The morphology, structural phase formation and chemical composition of FSG-MoS2 and FSG-NiMoS were investigated using FESEM, XRD, Raman and XPS analysis. The electrochemical behavior of metal sulphide decorated FSG cathodes is investigated using an electrochemical workstation and their effects on the photo-conversion efficiency of DSSCs were assessed. NiMoS with FSG substrate is an intriguing counter electrode material that can be utilized at low fabrication cost than the conventional platinum-based counter electrodes. FSG along with the metallic-two dimensional nanoparticles (NiMoS) functions as an effective catalytic material thereby allowing DSSCs to achieve enhanced efficiency of ∼7% to provide better alternative of FTO and Pt.

The geometry (twist vs. planar) of a dye is one of the most pivotal factors for determining intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), light harvesting and photovoltaic properties of dye-sensitized solar cells. In order to comprehend the role of dye geometry on the above properties, we have devised the pyrene based D–π–A dyes namely 2-cyano-3-(5-pyren-1-yl-furan-2-yl)-acrylic acid (PFCC) and 2-cyano-3-(5-pyren-1-ylethynyl-furan-2-yl)-acrylic acid (PEFCC). The synthesized pyrene dyes were well characterized by NMR and EI-MS spectrometry. In both the dyes, the donor (pyrene) and acceptor (cyanoacrylic acid) segments remained the same. The varied π-spacers were furan and ethynyl furan. The influences of the ethynyl spacer on the energy levels, light absorption, dynamics of excited states and photovoltaic properties of the DSCs were systematically investigated via theoretical calculations and spectroscopic measurements. UV-visible absorption spectral measurements indicated that the introduction of the ethynyl spacer enhances the molar absorptivity of a dye (PEFCC) in the order of 2, but does not shift the absorption range, which is consistent with the results obtained from density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The theoretical analysis indicated that the charge transfer transition is mainly constituted of the HOMO to the LUMO that were found to be located on donor and acceptor segments, respectively, which is supportive for efficient charge separation and electron injection processes. TDDFT calculations highlighted that the LUMO of the PEFCC dye is more stabilized by the incorporation of the ethynyl group between the pyrene and furan moieties that aid to inject electrons efficiently into TiO2 thereby resulting in an enhanced power conversion efficiency of 2.47% when compared to the PFCC dye. Notably, the overall conversion efficiency of the PEFCC dye reached 60% with respect to that of an N719-based device (4.12%) fabricated under similar conditions. Transient absorption kinetic studies demonstrated that a slower charge recombination rate is an essential factor behind enhanced efficiencies in PEFCC based cells.

In this work, Zn-porphyrin with a hydantoin anchor (ZnPHy) was designed and synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) applications. The synthesized ZnPHy was well characterized using IR, NMR and mass spectral techniques, and satisfactory results were obtained. Cyclic voltammetry, UV-visible absorption, steady-state fluorescence, time-resolved fluorescence and transient absorption spectroscopic techniques were employed to elucidate the electrochemical and photophysical properties of ZnPHy. The obtained properties revealed that the synthesized ZnPHy can be used as a photosensitizer for DSC applications. The nature of ZnPHy binding onto the TiO2 surface was investigated using ATR-FTIR and UV-Vis absorption measurements. The amount of adsorbed ZnPHy on TiO2 surface was reasonably fit using the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, with a binding constant value of 1.03 × 105 M-1. Time-resolved measurements were used to elucidate the rate of electron injection and the regeneration and recombination kinetics for ZnPHy/TiO2 film. The ZnPHy showed a high electron injection rate with a ϕinj of 99%. Intriguingly, the rate of electron recombination is much slower than the rates reported for carboxyl-based Zn-porphyrins. Such a high electron injection and slow electron recombination rate are beneficial to produce long-lived electrical current in a photovoltaic device. Thus, the ZnPHy-sensitized TiO2 electrode showed the best photovoltaic performance, with the short-circuit photocurrent density (JSC), open-circuit voltage (VOC) and fill factor (ff) of 3.49 mA cm-2, 0.6 V and 0.52, respectively, yielding an overall conversion efficiency (η) of 1.01%. For comparison, the ZnCOOH-sensitized electrode was also fabricated under the same conditions and yielded the η value of 0.84%. Hence, the hydantoin moiety could be a potential alternative anchoring group for DSC applications.

Cross-linked polymer (CLP) composed of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate has been used in synthesizing gel electrolyte. A set of electrolyte samples was synthesized using gel casting method by varying the weight percentage ratio of cross-linked polymers from 2–14 % in an incremental order (2 %) with respect to poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) and evaluated its performance by employing in the fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells. The synthesized polymer was subjected to different analytical techniques such as NMR, TGA, DSC, GPC, and FTIR to confirm the materials. The molecular weight of the CLP has been measured using GPC and the obtained value is found to be 3.655 KDa with polydispersity of 1.94. The CLP-PEO gel electrolyte with 10 % weight ratio has obtained the highest ionic conductivity of 3.07 × 10−6 S/cm−1 at room temperature and best photo-conversion efficiency of 5.1 % was achieved for the same.

In this manuscript we describe hybrid heterojunction solar cells, having the device architecture glass/indium tin oxide/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiopene)/poly(styrenesulfonic acid)/perovskite/[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester/C60/2,9-dimethyl- 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline/Al, fabricated using lead halide perovskite obtained through spray-coating at a low precursor concentration. To study the relationship between the morphology and device performance, we recorded scanning electron microscopy images of perovskite films prepared at various precursor ratios, spray volumes, substrate temperatures, and postspray annealing temperatures. Optimization of the spray conditions ensured uniform film growth and high surface area coverage at low substrate temperatures. Lead halide perovskite solar cells prepared under the optimal conditions displayed an average power conversion efficiency (PCE) of approximately 9.2%, with 85% of such devices having efficiencies of greater than 8.3%. The best-performing device exhibited a short-circuit current density of 17.3 mA cm(-2), a fill factor of 0.63, and an open-circuit voltage of 0.93 V, resulting in a PCE of 10.2%. Because spray-coating technology allows large-area deposition, we also fabricated devices having areas of 60 and 342 mm(2), achieving PCEs with these devices of 6.88 and 4.66%, respectively.

Solution-processed organometal trihalide-based perovskites have attracted attention in the field of solar energy due to their high absorption and low temperature fabrication. We demonstrated the droplet-assisted two-step process of spin coating lead iodide (PbI2) followed by spray coating methylammonium iodide (CH3NH3I) to prepare a continuous lead iodide perovskite film. A simple airbrush gun was used to control the volume of CH3NH3I, in order to attain a uniform, stoichiometric and continuous perovskite film. An insufficient or excess volume of CH3NH3I gives poor crystallinity and morphology, which gradually reduces the device performance. A power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 11.66% was achieved for 100 nm of PbI2 followed by 300 μl of CH3NH3I and annealing at 100 °C for 120 min. To address the reproducibility of the device performance, 50 devices were fabricated for statistical analysis and 80% of the devices showed the average PCE of 10–11% with reproducible JSC, VOC and FF.

In this study, the fabrication of photoanode of dye-sensitized solar cell using silver@titania nanospheres and N719 dye, and its enhanced photovoltaic performance in the dye-sensitized solar cell is described. Silver@titania with different mol. % of silver (1, 3 and 5 %) are synthesized using facile sol-gel and photochemical reduction method and are characterized by suitable analytical techniques. The synthesized nanocomposite materials showed nanospheres like morphology. Moreover, the photoluminescence studies revealed that incorporation of silver nanoparticles on the titania nanospheres surface suppressed the charge recombination process and which is more beneficial for dye-sensitized solar cells. Silver@titania nanospheres are successfully employed as a photoanode and demonstrated with an enhanced solar-to-electrical energy conversion efficiency of 5.24 %, under full sun illumination (100 mW cm−2, AM 1.5G) which is 30.67 % enhancement than that of bare titania nanospheres (4.01 %). This enhanced efficiency is attributed to the rapid interfacial charge transfer process and plasmonic effect offered by silver nanoparticles present in the silver@titania nanospheres. The improved charge transfer process led to minimize the back electron transfer reaction in the device. With complementary properties of silver nanoparticles, the high performance demonstrated by the silver@titania nanospheres could be an excellent candidate for the light energy harvesting applications.

In this study we developed organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) for the sensing of metal ions and anions through the self-assembly of a pentacene/Schiff base pyrene derivative. Our bilayer OTFTs displayed attractive device parameters: an electron mobility (l )o f 0.12 cm 2 V 1 s 1 , a threshold voltage (Vth) of 22.20 V, and a five-orders-of-magnitude on/ off ratio. Three series of supramolecular mono-(i.e., Ru1G1, Ru1G2 and Ru1G3), bis-(i.e., BTRu2G1, BTRu2G2 and BTRu2G3) and tris-(i.e., TPARu3G1, TPARu3G2 and TPARu3G3) Ru-based dendritic complexes were synthesized. Their photophysical and electrochemical properties were investigated. These metallodendritic complexes covered a broad absorption range of 250–750 nm with optical bandgaps of 1.51– 1.86 eV. The energy levels of the metallo-dendrimers can be effectively adjusted not only by different generations of dendritic thiophene arms but also by their p-conjugated core ligands bearing various electron donor (i.e., triphenylamine) and acceptor (i.e., benzothiadiazole) moieties. Due to the donor– acceptor effect, the bis-Ru-based dendrimers containing a benzothiadiazole electron-acceptor core ligand showed the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) among these three series of metallodendrimers. The tris-Ru-based architecture with a triphenylamine electron-donor core ligand revealed moderate photovoltaic performance. Among the different generations (G1–G3) of dendrimers, the third generation (G3) possessed the highest PCE values in each series of Ru-based dendrimers. Hence, the third generation bis-‘Ru’-based dendrimer BTRu2G3 blended with PC70BM (1 : 3 w/w) showed the highest PCE value of 0.77% (without the aid of additives or annealing), which is the highest efficiency among all bulk hetero-junction (BHJ) solar cells containing metallo-dendrimers reported to date.

Solution-processed small-molecule bulk heterojunction (BHJ) ambipolar organic thin-fi lm transistors are fabricated based on a combination of [2-phenylbenzo[ d , d ']thieno[3,2- b ;4,5- b ']dithiophene (P-BTDT) : 2-(4- n -octylphenyl)benzo[ d , d ']thieno[3,2- b ;4,5- b ']dithiophene (OP-BTDT)] and C 60 . Treating high electrical performance vacuum-deposited P-BTDT organic semiconductors with a newly developed solution-processed organic semiconductor material, OP-BTDT, in an optimized ratio yields a solution-processed p -channel organic semiconductor blend with carrier mobility as high as 0.65 cm 2 V 1 s 1 . An optimized blending of P-BTDT:OP-BTDT with the n -channel semiconductor, C 60 , results in a BHJ ambipolar transistor with balanced carrier mobilities for holes and electrons of 0.03 and 0.02 cm 2 V 1 s 1 , respectively. Furthermore, a complementary-like inverter composed of two ambipolar thin-fi lm transistors is demonstrated, which achieves a gain of 115.

Organic vertical-type triodes (OVTs) based on the cascade energy band structure as emitter layer are studied. The electric characteristics were dramatically enhanced while incorporating the cascade energy under current driving and voltage driving modes. The improvement is attributed to that injection carriers can obtain higher energy through a stepwise energy level. When the device has a layered structure of F 16 CuPC (10 nm)/PTCDI (10 nm)/pentacene (100 nm) in emitter, it exhibits a common-base transport factor of 0.99 and a common-emitter current gain of 225 under current driving mode and exhibits a high current modulation-exceeding −520 μA for a low collector voltage of −5 V and a base voltage of −5 V and the current on/off ratio of 10 3 under voltage driving mode. Furthermore, we realized first organic current mirror that exhibited out/in current ratio of 0.75 and output resistance of 10 5 Ω by using the OVTs.

In this short communication we report a sensor for divalent mercuric (Hg 2+ ) ions that we constructed from a perylene bisimide (PBI)-based organic thin film transistor. We improved the performance of the n-channel device by positioning N,N′-dioctyl-3,4,9,10-perylenedicarboximide between the dielectric and the active layer (PBI), increasing the electron mobility (μ) from 0.002 to 0.25±0.04 cm 2 V −1 s −1 and enhancing the on/off ratio ( I on / I off ) by two orders of magnitude (from 10 2 to 10 4 ). Based on a “thymine–Hg 2+ –thymine” mechanism and monitoring the shift in the threshold voltage ( V th ), we used this transistor to discriminate Hg 2+ ions from mixed ion solutions and it extended to different concentration Hg 2+ solutions (from 50 to 350 μM). By monitoring the shifts in drain current ( I DS ) and V th , we also used this bilayer device as a sensor for cysteine, a thiol-containing amino acid; the selective detection of cysteine was accompanied by a red shift in the fluorescence maximum of PBI, from 532 to 537 nm.

Stille polymerization was employed to synthesize a low-band-gap (LBG) conjugated main-chain polymer PBTH consisting of bithiazole, dithieno[3,2-b:2′,3′-d]pyrroles (DTP), and pendent melamine derivatives. Novel supramolecular polymer networks PBTH/C and PBTH/F were developed by mixing proper molar amounts of polymer PBTH (containing melamine pendants) to be hydrogen-bonded (H-bonded) with complementary uracil-based conjugated cross-linkers C and F (i.e., containing two symmetrical uracil moieties connected with carbazole and fluorene units through triple bonds). The formation of multiple H-bonds between polymer PBTH and cross-linkers C or F was confirmed by FT-IR measurements. In contrast to polymer PBTH , the supramolecular design with multiple H-bonds can enhance the photovoltaic properties of polymer solar cell (PSC) devices containing H-bonded polymer networks PBTH/C and PBTH/F by tuning their light harvesting capabilities, HOMO energy levels, and crystallinities. Initially, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) values of PSC devices containing supramolecular polymer networks PBTH/C and PBTH/F as electron donors and [6,6]-phenyl-C 71 -butyric acid methyl ester (PC 70 BM) as an electron acceptor (polymer:PC 70 BM = 1:1 w/w) are found to be 0.97 and 0.68%, respectively, in contrast to 0.52% for polymer PBTH . The highest PCE value of 1.56% with a short-circuit current densities ( J sc ) value of 7.16 mA/cm 2 , a open circuit voltages ( V oc ) value of 0.60 V, and a fill factor (FF) of 0.36 was further optimized in the PSC device containing a supramolecular polymer network PBTH/C as polymer:PC 70 BM = 1:2 w/w. These results indicate that supramolecular design is an effective route towards better photovoltaic properties of V oc , J sc , and PCE values in polymer solar cells.
