Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a prevalent form of primary liver cancer with a 5-year survival rate of just 18%. Ferulic acid, a natural compound found in fruits and vegetables such as sweet corn, rice bran, and dong quai, is an encouraging drug known for its diverse positive effects on the body, including anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and neuroprotective properties. Our study aimed to investigate the potential antitumor effects of ferulic acid to inhibit tumor growth and inflammation of HCC in rats. HCC was induced in rats by administering thioacetamide. Additionally, some rats were given 50 mg/kg of ferulic acid three times a week for 16 weeks. Liver function was assessed by measuring serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and examining hepatic tissue sections stained with hematoxylin/eosin or anti-hypoxia induced factor-1α (HIF-1α). The hepatic mRNA and protein levels of HIF-1α, nuclear factor κB (NFκB), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), cMyc, and cyclin D1 were examined. The results showed that ferulic acid increased the rats' survival rate by reducing serum AFP levels and suppressing hepatic nodules. Furthermore, ferulic acid ameliorated the appearance of vacuolated cytoplasm induced by HCC, reduced apoptotic nuclei, and necrotic nodules. Finally, ferulic acid decreased the expression of HIF-1α, NFκB, TNF-α, mTOR, STAT3, cMyc, and cyclin D1. In conclusion, ferulic acid is believed to possess antitumor properties by inhibiting HCC-induced hypoxia through the suppression of HIF-1α expression. Additionally, it helps in reducing the expression of mTOR, STAT3, cMyc, and cyclin D1, thereby slowing down tumor growth. Background/Objectives: Heart failure presents a significant public health challenge, affecting millions in the US, with projections of increasing prevalence and economic burdens. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is highly prevalent among HF patients. This study analyzes the impact of OSA on the outcomes in patients admitted with acute decompensated heart failure. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the National Inpatient Sample database (NIS) 2020, focusing on patients admitted with acute heart failure. Patient outcomes were compared between those with and without a secondary diagnosis of OSA, identified via validated ICD-10 codes. Subgroup analysis was conducted between heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Results: Among 65,649 patients with acute heart failure, 4595 (7%) patients were found to have OSA. The patients with OSA were more likely to be male, older in age and had a higher burden of comorbidities. No significant differences were observed in mortality between heart failure patients with and without OSA. In HFrEF patients, OSA was associated with longer hospital stays (6.45 days vs. 5.79 days, p < 0.001), higher rates of acute kidney injury (AKI) (adjusted odds ratio 1.28, 95% CI: 1.07–1.54, p = 0.007), and atrial fibrillation (adjusted odds ratio 1.35, 95% CI: 1.13–1.61, p = 0.001). In HFpEF patients, an association between OSA and AF was observed (adjusted odds ratio 1.20, 95% CI: 1.01–1.42, p = 0.03). Conclusions: OSA is associated with poor in-hospital outcomes in patients admitted with acute heart failure. HFrEF subgroup is especially vulnerable, with OSA leading to a significant increase in healthcare utilization and complication rates in these patients. This nationwide study underscores the importance of timely identification and treatment of OSA in heart failure to alleviate healthcare burdens and improve patient outcomes.

Background: The use of continuous flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) has revolutionized the management of advanced heart failure. One of the major complications associated with its use is the risk of bleeding, especially in the early postoperative period. Early events of postoperative bleeding have been associated with higher morbidity and mortality rates. Our study aims at identifying potential predictors of intraoperative bleeding, defined as 4 or more units of packed red blood cells transfused during surgery. A single-center retrospective cohort study of adult patients older than 18 years old who underwent CF-LVAD implantation between 2009 and 2024. Methods: Data were collected for the duration of implant hospitalization, including perioperative invasive hemodynamics, echocardiography, operative details, mechanical circulatory support, antiplatelets, inotropes, bleeding events, and blood product use, in addition to patient history and baseline characteristics. Results: A total of 208 patients were included in the analysis. Intraoperative bleeding occurred in 43 (20.67%) patients while 165 (79.33%) patients did not experience bleeding. Introduction: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder that is widely observed on a global scale and known for its substantial negative impact on health and mortality. The purpose of this research was to explore how SCD influences the outcomes of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). Methods: A retrospective observational analysis was conducted using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) data for the year 2020. Adult patients with concurrent ACS and SCD diagnoses were included in the study. Demographic information, clinical characteristics, in-hospital outcomes, and PCI complications were examined and compared between ACS patients with and without SCD. Results: Among a total of 779,895 ACS patients, 1495 had coexisting SCD. SCD patiets exhibited distinct demographic features, such as younger age (mean age: 59 vs. 66 years), predominantly female (53% vs. 35%), and primarily African American (91% vs. 11%). Comorbid conditions such as hypertension and chronic lung disease were more prevalent in SCD patients. While inpatient mortality odds did not significantly differ, SCD patients demonstrated slightly shorter lengths of stay in cases of STEMI and NSTEMI/UA. Notably, SCD patients faced a statistically significant increased risk of coronary dissection, highlighting a unique complication in this population. Although an increased incidence of atrial fibrillation and acute heart failure was observed in SCD patients, statistical significance was not achieved. Conclusions: This study provides valuable insight into the intricate interplay between SCD and ACS outcomes. SCD patients presented with distinctive demographic and clinical profiles that influenced their experience with ACS. The elevated risk of coronary dissection emphasizes the necessity for tailored interventions and careful management in SCD patients. These findings underscore the need for further research to elucidate underlying mechanisms and optimize treatment strategies for individuals with both SCD and ACS.

Despite wide application of sodium nitrite (SN) as food additive, it exhibits considerable side effects on various body organs at high dose or chronic exposure. The aim of this study was to test whether Glycyrrhizic acid (GA) could ameliorate SN-induced toxicity in lung and submandibular salivary gland (SMG). A sample size of 30 adult male albino rats was randomly allocated into 3 groups. Group 1 served as control group. Rats were treated orally with 80 mg/kg of SN in group 2 or SN preceded by (15 mg/kg) GA in group 3. Lung & SMG tissues were used for oxidative stress assessment, examination of histopathological changes, fibrosis (MTC, TGF-β and α-SMA) and inflammation (TNF-α, IL-1β and CD-68). Concurrent administration of GA ameliorated pulmonary and salivary SN-induced toxicity via restoring the antioxidant defense mechanisms with reduction of MDA levels. GA reduced the key regulators of fibrosis TGF-β and α-SMA and collagen deposition. In addition to reduction of inflammatory cytokine (TNF-α, IL-1β) and macrophages recruitments, GA amended both pulmonary and salivary morphological changes. The present study proposed GA as a promising natural herb with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects against pulmonary and salivary SN-induced toxicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Introduction Endocardial catheter ablation (ECA) for atrial fibrillation (AF) has limited efficacy. Hybrid convergent procedure (HCP) with both epicardial and endocardial ablation is a novel strategy for AF treatment. In this meta‐analysis, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of HCP in AF ablation. Method We performed a comprehensive literature search for studies that evaluated the efficacy and safety of HCP compared with ECA for AF. The primary outcome was freedom of atrial arrhythmia (AA). The secondary outcome was the periprocedural complication rate. Pooled relative risk (RR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using the random effects model. Results A total of eight studies, including 797 AF patients (mean age: 60.7 ± 9.8 years, 366 patients with HCP vs. 431 patients with ECA alone), were included. HCP showed a higher rate of freedom of AA compared with ECA (RR: 1.48, 95% CI: 1.13–1.94, p = .004). However, HCP was associated with higher rates of periprocedural complications (RR: 3.64, 95% CI: 2.06–6.43; p = .00001). Moreover, the HCP had a longer procedure time and postprocedural hospital stay. Conclusions Although hybrid ablation was associated with a higher success rate, this should be judged for increased periprocedural adverse events and extended hospital stay. Prospective large‐scale randomized trials are needed to validate these results.

This study investigates the compliance of Moroccan public buildings with the thermal regulation (RTCM). It analysis public building envelope typology, the conformity and the impact of RTCM conformity on energy performance across the six climatic zones defined by the RTCM. The outcomes of this research may serve as a decision-support instrument by identifying areas where the thermal regulation is already validated and the potential impact that a public building could undergo by implementing these provisions. Additionally, this study can be viewed as a crucial analysis contributing to the enhancement of the existing regulation. The study emphasizes various extraneous stipulations present within the prevailing regulation. In this work, we have attempted to categorize these stipulations into two distinct groups: recommendations for refinement to be integrated into the regulatory framework, and essential measures to ensure successful implementation of the regulation in the realm of building energy efficiency.

Gradenigo syndrome (GS) was described primarily in the paediatric population, especially in the pre-antibiotic era. GS is rarely reported in the elderly population, especially in the post-antibiotic era. We present the rare case of a 67-year-old man who presented with an incomplete triad of symptoms (without abducens nerve palsy) of GS that failed medical therapy and was successfully treated with surgical intervention (mastoidectomy and petrous apicectomy). Physicians should be familiar with atypical presenting symptoms of GS as it can lead to life-threatening complications, especially in the elderly. GS cases resistant to medical therapy may require prompt appropriate imaging studies and surgical intervention.

Background: Balloon angioplasty is the standard endovascular treatment for symptomatic infrapopliteal peripheral artery disease (PAD). However, recent trials have studied the effectiveness of drug-eluting stents (DES) for infrapopliteal PAD. Objective: This study investigated the use of DES compared with standard endovascular techniques for treatment of infrapopliteal artery disease. Methods: This is a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of 9 recent randomized controlled trials. The primary clinical outcome assessed was primary patency. The secondary outcomes were target lesion revascularization (TLR), major limb amputation, and all-cause mortality. Results: A total of 945 patients met the inclusion criteria. Patients treated with DES were found to have increased primary patency than control at maximum follow-up (hazard ratio [HR] 2.17, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.58-2.97, P < .0001, I2 = 62%). A similar result was seen in the subgroup of patients with critical limb ischemia (HR 2.58, 95% CI 1.49-4.49, P = .0008, I2 = 75%). DES were associated with significantly lower rates of TLR than control at maximum follow-up (HR 0.48, 95% CI 0.33-0.68, P < .0001; I2 = 11%). There was no statistical difference between DES versus control in rates of major limb amputation and mortality. Conclusions: DES have superior primary patency and TLR rates with no difference in amputation and all-cause mortality rates compared with conventional endovascular therapies in patients with infrapopliteal PAD.

In this article, we present a case of an asymptomatic 6 cm right atrial mass in a patient undergoing staging for endometrial cancer. The mass was resected, and final pathology was consistent with cardiac myxoma.

Purpose. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of midodrine use in intensive care units (ICU) to facilitate weaning off intravenous vasopressors (IVV). Methods. We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane library, and Google Scholar (inception through October 18th, 2020) for studies evaluating adjuvant use of midodrine to IVV in the ICU. The outcomes of interest were ICU length of stay (LOS), hospital LOS, mortality, IVV reinstitution, ICU readmission, and bradycardia. Estimates were pooled using the random-effects model. We reported effect sizes as standardized mean difference (SMD) for continuous outcomes and risk ratios (RRs) for other outcomes with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results. A total of 6 studies were found that met inclusion criteria and had sufficient data for our quantitative analysis (1 randomized controlled trial and 5 retrospective studies). A total of 2,857 patients were included: 600 in the midodrine group and 2,257 patients in the control group. Midodrine use was not associated with a significant difference in ICU LOS (SMD 0.16 days; 95% CI −0.23 to 0.55), hospital LOS (SMD 0.03 days; 95% CI −0.33 to 0.0.39), mortality (RR 0.87; 95% CI 0.52 to 1.46), IVV reinstitution (RR 0.47; 95% CI 0.17 to 1.3), or ICU readmission (RR 1.03; 95% CI 0.71 to 1.49) when compared to using only IVV. However, there were higher trends of bradycardia with midodrine use that did not reach significance (RR 7.64; 95% CI 0.23 to 256.42). Conclusion. This meta-analysis suggests that midodrine was not associated with a significant decrease in ICU LOS, hospital LOS, mortality, or ICU readmissions.

Abstract Background The freshwater snail Indoplanorbis exustus is found across India, Southeast Asia, central Asia (Afghanistan), Arabia and Africa. Indoplanorbis is of economic importance in that it is responsible for the transmission of several species of the genus Schistosoma which infect cattle and cause reduced livestock productivity. The snail is also of medical importance as a source of cercarial dermatitis among rural workers, particularly in India. In spite of its long history and wide geographical range, it is thought that Indoplanorbis includes only a single species. The aims of the present study were to date the radiation of Indoplanorbis across Asia so that the factors involved in its dispersal in the region could be tested, to reveal potential historical biogeographical events shaping the phylogeny of the snail, and to look for signs that I. exustus might be polyphyletic. Results The results indicated a radiation beginning in the late Miocene with a divergence of an ancestral bulinine lineage into Assam and peninsular India clades. A Southeast Asian clade diverged from the peninsular India clade late-Pliocene; this clade then radiated at a much more rapid pace to colonize all of the sampled range of Indoplanorbis in the mid-Pleistocene. Conclusions The phylogenetic depth of divergences between the Indian clades and Southeast Asian clades, together with habitat and parasitological differences suggest that I. exustus may comprise more than one species. The timescale estimated for the radiation suggests that the dispersal to Arabia and to Southeast Asia was facilitated by palaeogeographical events and climate change, and did not require human involvement. Further samples from Afghanistan, Africa and western India are required to refine the phylogeographical hypothesis and to include the African Recent dispersal.

The rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Mycoplasma bovis underscores the urgent need for alternative treatments. This study evaluated the minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of four metal ions (cobalt, copper, silver, and zinc) and colloidal silver against 15 clinical M. bovis isolates, alongside conventional antimicrobials (florfenicol, tetracycline, tulathromycin, and tylosin). Colloidal silver demonstrated the most effective antimicrobial activity, inhibiting 81.25% of isolates at 1.5 mg/L, while silver inhibited 93.7% of isolates at concentrations above 1.5 mg/L. Copper exhibited notable efficacy, inhibiting 37.5% of isolates at 1.5 mg/L, with a small proportion responding at 0.1 mg/L. Cobalt and zinc displayed variable activity, with MIC values ranging from 0.7 to 12.5 mg/L. In contrast, conventional antimicrobials showed limited effectiveness: tetracycline inhibited 31.25% of isolates at ≥16 mg/L, tylosin inhibited 25% at 16 mg/L, and tulathromycin MICs ranged from 0.5 to 8 mg/L. Time-kill assays revealed a reduction in M. bovis viability after eight hours of exposure to silver and colloidal silver, though higher concentrations (4×-8× MIC) were required for complete eradication. These findings highlight the significant potential of colloidal silver and copper as alternatives for treating M. bovis infections and combating AMR. Further research is essential to explore their standalone and synergistic applications for therapeutic use.

Background: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that about 1 in every 44 children between the ages of 4 and 8 years old had been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Complementary interventions such as massage are crucial for the improvement of the health outcomes of ASD patients, such as abnormal sensory response; Autism Behavior Checklist; parenting stress, self-regulatory difficulties, social, language, and communication abilities; tactile or oral abnormalities; Vineland daily living skills; Vineland socialization; Childhood Autism Rating Scale; Preschool Language Scale 5th Edition (PLS-5) auditory communication; and PLS-5 expressive communication., Purpose: We aim to systematically investigate the effects of different types of massage on self-regulatory difficulties, tactile and oral abnormalities, and parenting stress in children with ASD., Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science were scoured from their inception through November 15, 2022. Research comparing massage efficacy in children with ASD to other methods or a control group was included. For randomized controlled trials (RCTs), we utilized the Cochrane risk of bias tool; and for cohort studies, we used the tool developed by the National Institutes of Health. Meta-analysis was carried out with Review Manager 5.4. For our continuous data, we calculated the mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI)., Results: We included 10 studies with a total number of 485 children with autism. Our analysis showed a significant decrease in the massage group regarding self-regulatory difficulties (MD = -9.15; 95% CI (-13.69 to -4.60), p < 0.0001). Also, the massage group showed a significant decrease in tactile or oral abnormalities compared with the control group (MD = -4.83; 95% CI (-7.86 to -1.80), p = 0.002). Moreover, parenting stress significantly decreased in the massage group compared to the control group (MD = -4.31; 95% CI (-7.02 to -1.61), p = 0.002)., Conclusion: Qigong and traditional Thai massage improved self-regulatory difficulties and decreased tactile or oral abnormalities in children with autism. Moreover, they decreased parenting stress. However, we need more RCTs with larger sample sizes with high quality to assess the different types of massage effects on autistic children and produce more valid results. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae , an important cause of enzootic pneumonia in pigs in many countries, has recently been shown to exhibit reduced susceptibility to several antimicrobial classes. In the present study, a total of 185 pig lung tissue samples were collected from abattoirs in Australia, from which 21 isolates of M. hyopneumoniae were obtained. The antimicrobial resistance profile of the isolates was determined for 12 antimicrobials using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) testing, and a subset ( n = 14) underwent whole-genome sequence analysis. MIC testing revealed uniformly low values for enrofloxacin (≤1 μg/mL), florfenicol (≤8 μg/mL), lincomycin (≤4 μg/mL), spectinomycin (≤4 μg/mL), tetracycline (≤0.5 μg/mL), tiamulin (≤2 μg/mL), tildipirosin (≤4 μg/mL), tilmicosin (≤16 μg/mL) tulathromycin (≤2 μg/mL), and tylosin (≤2 μg/mL). Higher MICs were observed for erythromycin (MIC range: 16-32 μg/mL), gamithromycin, and tilmicosin (MIC range of both: 32-64 μg/mL). Whole-genome sequencing of the isolates and additional screening using mismatch amplification mutation assay PCR did not identify any known genetic resistance markers within 23S rRNA (macrolides), DNA gyrase A, and topoisomerase IV genes (fluoroquinolones). The WGS data also indicated that the Australian M. hyopneumoniae isolates exhibited limited genetic diversity and formed a distinct monophylectic clade when compared to isolates from other countries. These findings indicate that Australian M. hyopneumoniae likely remains susceptible to the major antimicrobials used to treat enzootic pneumonia in pigs and have evolved in isolation from strains identified in other pig-producing countries.

This study aimed to predict the skeletal growth maturation using convolutional neural network-based deep learning methods using cervical vertebral maturation and the lower 2nd molar calcification level so that skeletal maturation can be detected from orthopantomography using multiclass classification. About 1200 cephalometric radiographs and 1200 OPGs were selected from patients seeking treatment in dental centers. The level of skeletal maturation was detected by CNN using the multiclass classification method, and each image was identified as a cervical vertebral maturation index (CVMI); meanwhile, the chronological age was estimated from the level of the 2nd molar calcification. The model's final result demonstrates a high degree of accuracy with which each stage and gender can be predicted. Cervical vertebral maturation reported high accuracy in males (98%), while females showed high accuracy of 2nd molar calcification. CNN multiclass classification is an accurate method to detect the level of maturation, whether from cervical maturation or the calcification of the lower 2nd molar, and the calcification level of the lower 2nd molar is a reliable method to trust in the growth level, so the traditional OPG is enough for this purpose.

Background The effect of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) on kidney morphology was evaluated sonographically in patients with renal stones. This study aimed to investigate the effects of ESWL on the kidneys after consecutive sessions. Methods This case-control study included adult participants from December 2018 to August 2022 in three major centers of ESWL treatment. Data were collected from 392 patients (336 treated with ESWL and 56 in the control group). Data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics (IBM Corp., Armonk, USA). Both binary logistic regression and generalized linear regression were applied to determine the factors that predicted the effect of ESWL on kidney length (KL) and cortico-medullary differentiation (CMD). Results The overall effect of ESWL treatment on patients with renal stones was observed in 19.9% disturbed CMD, and 11.6% decreased parenchymal thickness. KL was significantly decreased in patients exposed to ESWL compared to controls (9.103 vs.10.291 cm, p-value < .001). KL decreased significantly as the number of ESWL sessions increased (r = -.209, p-value < .001). After adjustment, the frequencies of ESWL and hydronephrosis were significantly associated with CMD distortion. Patients who were exposed to more than one ESWL session had 2.64 increased odds of distorted CMD as compared to controls (AOR=2.64, 95% CI = 1.040-6.683), and those with hydronephrosis had 1.70 increased odds of distorted CMD as compared to controls (AOR=1.70, 95% CI = 1.188-2.434). Conclusion ESWL significantly affected the renal length and CMD in patients with renal stones. The frequency of ESWL sessions significantly decreased KL and disturbed CMD in patients with renal stones. Background: To evaluate the clinical findings of patients with SOP who underwent surgery., Methods: This historical cohort study was performed on 1057 SOP patients managed with surgery in Farabi Hospital, Iran, from 2011 to 2022., Results: There were 990 (93.7%) patients with unilateral SOP with the mean age of 21.8 ± 14.8 years. Of these, 715 patients (72.2%) were diagnosed with congenital SOP, and 275 patients (27.8%) had acquired SOP (P < 0.001). In contrast, 67 (6.3%) patients were diagnosed with bilateral SOP, with the mean age of 19.4 ± 15.6 years. Among these, 18 cases exhibited the masked type. The mean angle of vertical deviation in primary position at far in unilateral and bilateral cases was 15.6 ± 8.3 and 13.3 ± 9.1 △, respectively (P < 0.001). In unilateral cases, abnormal head posture (AHP) was detected in 847 (85.5%) patients and 12 (1.2%) had paradoxical AHP. Amblyopia was found in 89 (9.9%) unilateral and 7 (10.3%) bilateral cases. Solitary inferior oblique myectomy, was the most common surgery in both unilateral (n = 756, 77.1%) and bilateral (n = 35, 52.2%) patients. The second surgery was performed for 84 (8.6%) unilateral and 33 (49.3%) bilateral cases (P < 0.001). The prevalence of amblyopia and the mean angle of horizontal deviation were significantly higher in patients who needed more than one surgery (all P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Congenital SOP was more than twice as frequent as acquired SOP and about 90% of unilateral and 50% of bilateral cases were managed with one surgery. Cutaneous metastasis of urothelial carcinoma after radical cystectomy is extremely rare. We present the case of a 57-year-old man who underwent a radical cystectomy with ileal conduit for the presence of a bladder tumor. He developed a cheek lesion after 2 months, which was diagnosed as a metastatic nodule along with bone metastases from high-grade bladder urothelial carcinoma. Purpose: Resistance to Trastuzumab is a significant challenge in the management of HER2-positive Metastatic Breast cancer (HER2-MBC), and a better understanding of the molecular causes of resistance is required to develop more effective treatment plans. While elevated plasma levels of miR-200 and FOXP3 have been linked to breast cancer progression and treatment response, no clinical studies have confirmed these results. Methods: The study involved 40 patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (HER2-MBC). The expression levels of miR-200c-3p and the FOXP3 gene were assessed in plasma samples at two time points: baseline (BL) and after the consent completion of one cycle of Trastuzumab, utilizing quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Clinical response to Trastuzumab was evaluated 12 months post-therapy and correlated with the time to progression (TTP) through Kaplan-Meier analysis. Results: Low plasma expression level of miR-200c-3p was detected before therapy in HER2-MBC, compared to healthy controls, and decreased dramatically in the follow-up sample at disease progression, while increased after one cycle of Trastuzumab therapy in patients who were sensitive to Trastuzumab. At baseline, a low expression level of miR-200c was significantly associated with overexpression of FOXP3, poor prognosis, and shorter time to progression. Objective: Aim: To evaluate the cytotoxic activity of newly synthesized a series of novel HDAC inhibitors comprising sulfonamide as zinc binding group and Coumarin as cap groups., Patients and Methods: Materials and Methods: The utilization of sulfonamide as zinc binding group and Coumarin as cap groups known to possess antitumor activity in the designed of new histone deacetylase inhibitors and using the docking and MTT assay to evaluate the compounds., Results: Results: Four compounds have been synthesized and characterized successfully by ART-FTIR, NMR and ESI-Ms. The synthesized compound assessed for their cytotoxic activity against hepatoblastoma HepG2 (IC50, I=0.094, II=0.040, III=0.032, IV=0.046, SAHA=0.141) and human colon adenocarcinoma MCF-7 (IC50, I=0.135, II=0.050, III= 0.065, IV=0.059, SAHA=0.107). The binding mode to the active site of [HDAC6] were determined by docking study which give results that they might be good inhibitors for [HDAC6]., Conclusion: Conclusions: The synthesized compounds (I, II, III and IV) showed a comparable cytotoxic result with FDA approved drug (SAHA) toward HepG2 and MCF-7 cancer cell lines and their docking analysis provided a preliminary indication that they are viable [HDAC6] candidates.

Background and Objectives : Orthodontics is a field that has seen significant advancements in recent years, with technology playing a crucial role in improving diagnosis and treatment planning. The study aimed to implement artificial intelligence to predict the arch width as a preventive measure to avoid future crowding in growing patients or even in adult patients seeking orthodontic treatment as a tool for orthodontic diagnosis. Materials and Methods : Four hundred and fifty intraoral scan (IOS) images were selected from orthodontic patients seeking treatment in private orthodontic centers. Real inter-canine, inter-premolar, and inter-molar widths were measured digitally. Two of the main machine learning models were used: the Python programming language and machine learning algorithms, implementing the data on k-nearest neighbor and linear regression. Results : After the dataset had been implemented on the two ML algorithms, linear regression and k-nearest neighbor, the evaluation metric shows that KNN gives better prediction accuracy than LR does. The resulting accuracy was around 99%. Conclusions : it is possible to leverage machine learning to enhance orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning by predicting linear dental arch measurements and preventing anterior segment malocclusion.

To date, antimicrobial susceptibility has not been reported for Australian Mycoplasma bovis isolates. This study determined minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for 12 different antimicrobials against Australian M. bovis isolates and used whole genome sequencing to screen those showing high macrolide MICs for point mutations in target genes. Most lung tissue/swab samples from bovine respiratory disease cases (61/76, 80.3%) tested positive for M. bovis. A set of 50 representative isolates (50/61, 82.0%) that showed adequate growth, was used for MIC testing. Uniformly, low MIC values were confirmed for enrofloxacin (≤ 4 μg/mL), florfenicol (≤ 8 μg/mL), gamithromycin (≤ 2 μg/mL), spectinomycin (≤ 4 μg/mL), tetracycline (≤ 8 μg/mL), tiamulin (≤ 4 μg/mL), and tulathromycin (≤ 0.5 μg/mL). A small proportion (10%) of isolates exhibited high MICs (≥ 32 μg/mL) for tildipirosin, tilmicosin, tylosin, and lincomycin, which were above the epidemiological cut-off values for each antimicrobial (≥ 4 μg/mL). These isolates, originating from three Australian states, underwent whole genome sequencing/multilocus sequencing typing and were compared with the reference strain PG45 to investigate mutations that might be linked with the high macrolide/lincosamide MICs. All five belonged to ST52 and two macrolide associated mutations were identified within the 23 S rRNA gene (A2058G in two sequenced isolates and G748A in all sequenced isolates). Four additional 23 S rRNA gene mutations did not appear to be linked to macrolide resistance. Background: Chronic gastritis (CG) is a very common disease. More than half of the worldwide population suffers from symptoms of CG. This disease has received great attention since the discovery of H. pylori as the most important cause of CG. Symptoms experienced by patients with CG are attributed to H. pylori -induced inflammatory reactions. Heparanase (HPSE) is a mammalian β-endoglucoronidase. In inflammation; HPSE degrades and remodels the extracellular matrix's heparan sulfate polysaccharide chains liberating heparan sulfate-bound cytokines and chemokines, HPSE also facilitates movement of inflammatory cells., Aims: This study aimed to detect the function of HPSE in CG by correlating levels of HPSE expression with histopathological features of CG, including H. pylori infection, acute and chronic inflammatory cells, mucosal atrophic and/or metaplastic features., Methods: Ninety-five upper endoscopic-guided gastric punch biopsies were enrolled in this study. From each specimen, formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue blocks were prepared. Tissue sections were stained by Hematoxylin and eosin, Giemsa, and anti-heparanase antibody., Results: HPSE expression was statistically associated with H. pylori infection ( P -value < .000), and intensity of chronic lymphocytic inflammatory infiltrate in the gastric mucosal tissues ( P  = .004). High levels of HPSE expression were also related to the presence of neutrophils in the gastric surface epithelium and lamina propria ( P -value < .009)., Conclusions: HPSE expression was upregulated in H. pylori -associated chronic gastritis. Peripheral neuropathy is a frequent complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We investigated whether human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP), which forms pathogenic aggregates that damage pancreatic islet β cells in T2DM, is involved in T2DM-associated peripheral neuropathy. In vitro, hIAPP incubation with sensory neurons reduced neurite outgrowth and increased levels of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species. hIAPP-transgenic mice, which have elevated plasma hIAPP levels without hyperglycemia, developed peripheral neuropathy as evidenced by pain-associated behavior and reduced intraepidermal nerve fiber (IENF) density. Similarly, hIAPP Ob/Ob mice, which have hyperglycemia in combination with elevated plasma hIAPP levels, had signs of neuropathy, although more aggravated. In wild-type mice, intraplantar and intravenous hIAPP injections induced long-lasting allodynia and decreased IENF density. Non-aggregating murine IAPP, mutated hIAPP (pramlintide), or hIAPP with pharmacologically inhibited aggregation did not induce these effects. T2DM patients had reduced IENF density and more hIAPP oligomers in the skin compared with non-T2DM controls. Thus, we provide evidence that hIAPP aggregation is neurotoxic and mediates peripheral neuropathy in mice. The increased abundance of hIAPP aggregates in the skin of T2DM patients supports the notion that hIAPP is a potential contributor to T2DM neuropathy in humans.

(1) Background and Objectives : Pneumonia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, including in Saudi Arabia, and the prevalence and etiology of the disease varies depending on the setting. The development of effective strategies can help reduce the adverse impact of this disease. Therefore, this systematic review was conducted to explore the prevalence and etiology of community-acquired and hospital-acquired pneumonia in Saudi Arabia, as well as their antimicrobial susceptibility. (2) Materials and Methods : The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 recommendations were followed for this systematic review. Several databases were used to perform a thorough literature search, and papers were then assessed for eligibility by two independent reviewers. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to extract the data from the relevant research and evaluate its quality. (3) Results : This systematic review included 28 studies that highlighted the fact that gram-negative bacteria, particularly Acinetobacter spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa , were the common cause of hospital-acquired pneumonia, while Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus spp. were responsible for community-acquired pneumonia in children. The study also found that bacterial isolates responsible for pneumonia showed high resistance rates against several antibiotics, including cephalosporins and carbapenems. (4) Conclusions : In conclusion, the study found that different bacteria are responsible for community- and hospital-acquired pneumonia in Saudi Arabia. Antibiotic resistance rates were high for several commonly used antibiotics, highlighting the need for rational antibiotic use to prevent further resistance. Moreover, there is a need to conduct more regular multicenter studies to assess etiology, resistance, and susceptibility patterns of pneumonia-causing pathogens in Saudi Arabia.

The interaction between rare earth and iron spins in rare earth orthoferrites leads to remarkable phenomena, such as the spin-flip process. This is despite the rare earth spins not being magnetically ordered. Instead, they are polarized by the ordered iron spins. The interaction between the two spin families is not well understood. This study reports the temperature dependence of the net magnetic moment for rare earth spins, by measuring the overall magnetization for ErFeO 3 and NdFeO 3 single crystals. The obtained temperature dependence can be described well using a model based on the mean field theory, giving tanh(const./ T ) temperature dependence. This functional dependence is not disrupted by the spin-flip transition as the crystals are cooled.

Objective: The aim: The purpose of the research was to study the role of infiximab global cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury., Patients and Methods: Materials and methods: The rats were split into five groups: Sham group; Control group: occlusion of the common carotid artery for 60 minutes, and sub-sequently reperfusion for an hour without receiving any medication; Vehicle group: as the control group, but 72 hours before to the ischemia, they were given the medication 0.9 NaCl intraperitoneally (i.p); Treated group-1: as the control group, plus 3 mg/kg of IFX intraperitoneally (i.p) 72 hours prior to ischemia; Treated group-2: as the control group, plus 7 mg/kg of IFX intraperitoneally (i.p) 72 hours prior to ischemia., Results: Results: Pre-treatment with IFX significantly reduced the percentage of infarct area, but in the IFX (7 mg/kg) group, the infarct area was smaller than at the low dose. The ischemia group had a significant elevated of TNF- α and caspase-3 while a significant lowered in CAT and SOD levels. The pre-treatment with IFX, the TNF- α and caspase-3 levels lowered significantly, furthermore, significantly increased CAT and SOD levels activity (P≤0.05) as compared with IR group. Among effective groups, I/R+IFX (7mg/kg) group more effective in lowering TNF- α and caspase than I/R+IFX (3mg/kg) group., Conclusion: Conclusions: Infiximab has neuroprotective effective due to its powerful TNF- α blocker and limit ROS release and cell death signaling which protects the neurons from injury during cerebral ischemia reperfusion.

Background: Previous studies documented a narrow scope of knowledge about the negative mental health status during the lockdown following the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in Arab countries., Aim: We aimed to assess the association between negative mental health status and the COVID-19 pandemic and determine the different factors affecting mental health among the general population of seven Arab countries., Methods: This study is a multinational cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey conducted online from June 11, 2020 to June 25, 2020. The depression, anxiety, and stress Scale 21 Items (DASS-21) and the Event scale-Revised Arabic version (IES-R-13) scales were used. Multiple linear regressions were performed to study the association between the scales' total scores with COVID-19 and demographic characteristics., Results: A total of 28,843 participants from seven Arab countries were included. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence of mental health disorders has significantly increased. A total of 19006 participants (66%) were affected by variable degrees of depression, 13,688 (47%) had anxiety, and 14,374 (50%) had stress ranging from mild to severe. Higher levels were associated with other factors, such as lower age, female gender, chronic disease, unemployed, fear of getting infected, and a history of psychiatric disorders., Conclusion: Our study findings show an increased incidence of mental disorders during the pandemic. We describe a unique case of perivascular epithelioid cell tumors occurring as mediastinal and left renal soft tissue masses discovered incidentally in a 5-year-old tuberous sclerosis patient upon presentation to the emergency department for upper respiratory illness. The radiographic features were non-specific. However, the similar CT characteristics of both lesions and background history raised the suspicion of a synchronous mesenchymal tumor, and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. The rarity of these tumors in the pediatric population and lack of specific diagnostic criteria impose reporting the case and emphasize the need for further research on imaging features of such tumors., (© 2022 The Authors. Background: Early detection of psoriasis is still an open discussion. Psoriatic lesions are characterized by red/scaly plaques affecting different body-sites., Objectives: To evaluate the levels of programmed cell death protein-1(PD-1) and Angiopoietins-2(Ang-2) in serum, lesional, and perilesional of psoriatic patients and correlate them with controls and disease severity., Subjects and Methods: Serum samples were obtained from 40 participants subdivided equally into psoriatic and healthy controls, 4 mm punch&#95;biopsy equally from lesional and perilesional skin of individuals. PD-1/ANG-2 ELISA kits were used for determining the serum and tissue levels among groups., Results: Serum and tissue levels of PD-1 and Ang-2 were overexpressed in psoriatic patients compared with controls. There was a statistical difference between patients and controls in level of PD-1(serum and tissue) with p-value 0.006 and 0.0001, respectively. There was a statistical difference between both groups for ANG-2(serum and tissue) with p-value 0.03 and 0.0001, respectively. There were positive correlations between PASI score and PD-1 in tissue (r = 0.467, p = 0.038). Also, positive correlation between the level of PD-1 in serum and tissue (r = 0.369, p = 0.019), the serum levels of PD-1 and ANG-2 (r = 0.78, p > 0.0001), PD-1 and Ang-2 in tissue (r = 0.583,p = 0.0001) were detected., Conclusion: PD-1 and ANG-2 can be highly recommended to determine the severity of psoriasis., (© 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) are primary vectors of human arboviral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever, and Zika viruses. Aedes aegypti is well distributed in Sudan, except in Northern and Khartoum states, while Ae. albopictus has not been previously reported. Recently, Eastern Sudan witnessed an unprecedented large outbreak of chikungunya fever between 31 May 2018 and 30 March 2019. The outbreak was composed of four waves; one of them was in Kassala state. Aedes survey in localities of Kassala state (rather than Kassala city) is carried out to assess the possible expansion of the disease in the state. The results showed the presence of immature stages of Aedes spp. in four localities from ten localities. From the four localities that recorded Aedes spp., two localities (Rural Kassala and West Kassala) were reported with chikungunya cases. From this investigation, Ae. albopictus was reported for the first time in Sudan. Also, this investigation showed the importance of conducting entomological surveys with epidemiological surveys during outbreaks of arboviral diseases., (Copyright © 2022. The metal-free g-C 3 N 4 photocatalyst has a high solar fuel generation potential. This review covers the most recent advancements in g-C 3 N 4 preparation, including innovative design concepts and new synthesis methods, and novel ideas for expanding the light absorption of pure g-C 3 N 4 for photocatalytic application. Similarly, the main issue concerning research and prospects in photocatalysts based g-C 3 N 4 was also discussed. It is associated with a raised risk of cardiovascular disease, particularly in developing countries. Nevertheless, the banking sector profession lifestyle is sedentary and accompanied by high levels of mental stress, thus at a higher risk of developing hypertension. Objective The objective is to assess the prevalence of hypertension among bank employees and the associated risk factors in River Nile State - Sudan. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on Atbara and Al-Damar localities' banks in River Nile state from January to March 2020. Data were collected on demographics, BMI, waist circumference (WC), medical history, family history, nutritional habits, physical activities, medications history, work stress, complaints, and blood pressure. Results Ninety-eight bank employees were enrolled, with elevated blood pressure present in 45(45.9%) participants, of whom 18 (40%) were newly diagnosed. 43.9% were in the age group 31-40 years. High blood pressure was significantly associated with older age >40 years, BMI > 30 kg/m 2 , WC > 90 cm, diabetes mellitus (DM), smoking, family history, salty diet, reduced daily exercise (30 minutes per day), severe stress at work, with overall P-value = <0.005. Conclusion The prevalence of high blood pressure was remarkably high among bank employees.
