The cotton leafhopper (Jacobiasca lybica) is one of the polyphagous species and its control is mainly based on chemical treatments, however its bio-ecological parameters are still poorly understood especially under Moroccan conditions. In this work, the population ecology of this leafhopper and the planning of insecticide treatments based on the recorded degree-days (DD) in a citrus orchard and vineyard separated by a windbreak (WB) of Cypress and Acacia were investigated. Leafhopper adults were monitored with five yellow sticky traps for each experimental unit and removed weekly from April to August for identification and counting. The sampling indicated the presence of five peaks of adult flight during 2017 and seven during 2018. Whereas six generations were predicted each year according to DD recorded until mid-August. Leafhopper populations were present on WB plants throughout the study period, and its preference for Acacia over Cypress was observed. During 2018, insecticides used were applied one week after DD predicted new generations on WB plants, and they were also applied on grapes at second, third, fourth and fifth adult peaks. The use of DD to predict the outbreak of new generations is discussed as a promising strategy to manage leafhopper populations below economic thresholds.

تمَّ تشخيص تداخل مياه البحر مع المياه الجوفية في منطقة الدراسة من خلال تحديد تراكيز الكلور والصوديوم وحساب الملوحة استناداً إلى قياسات الناقلية الكهربائية لعينات مائية مأخوذة من عدد من الآبار المستثمرة في المنطقة. تمَّ تحديد مواقع نقاط السبر الكهربائي بالاعتماد على نتائج القياسات الكيميائية، نُفّذَ 31 نقطة سبر موزعة على طول خمس بروفيلات متعامدة مع خط الشاطئ، استُخدم في القياس الكهربائي طريقة السبر الكهربائي العمودي للمقاومية (تشكيل شلمبرجير)، تمَّ التفسير أحادي البعد للقياسات الكهربائية باستخدام برنامج IPI2Win والاعتماد على نتائج هذا التفسير في بناء النموذج الجيوكهربائي ثلاثي الأبعاد باستخدام برنامج RockWorks. أظهرت نتائج الدراسة الكيميائية ارتفاع في قيم الملوحة للعينات المائية القريبة من خط الشاطئ والعينات البعيدة نسبياً عن خط الشاطئ بسبب ارتفاع معدّل الضخ حيث تجاوزت قيم الملوحة في هذه العينات 1000 ملغ/ل، ترافقت الملوحة المرتفعة مع ازدياد في تركيز شاردة الكلور لتتجاوز 250ملغ/ل وازدياد في تركيز شاردة الصوديوم حيث تجاوزت 200ملغ/ل لتصبح مياه هذه الآبار غير صالحة بمعظمها للشرب والري، أشارت النسبة الجيوكيميائية Na/Cl إلى تأثير مياه البحر على ملوحة المياه الجوفية حيث لم تتجاوز هذه النسبة 0.86 في حين تجاوزت القيمة 0.86 في الآبار التي يزيد فيها تركيز الصوديوم عن تركيز الكلور بسبب وجود عوامل أدت إلى زيادة شاردة الصوديوم مثل استخدام المبيدات الحشرية والأسمدة الكيميائية، التلوث بمياه الصرف الصحي إضافةً إلى التلوث بمياه البحر. أظهرت عملية النمذجة ثلاثية الأبعاد أنَّ التطور العمودي لعملية تداخل مياه البحر باتجاه اليابسة قد يصل إلى مسافة وسطية تصل إلى 950م بالمقارنة مع الدراسات السابقة تراجعت جبهة التداخل بمقدار (450-850) م بسبب استخدام قنوات الري، بالإضافة إلى ذلك يزداد نهوض نطاق التداخل بالاتجاه شمالاً بسبب الضخ الكثيف ويزداد عمقاً بالاتجاه شرقاً ليبلغ عمقهُ الأعظمي 25م.

Numerous fungal plant pathogens can infect fresh fruits and vegetables during transit and storage conditions. The resulting infections were mainly controlled by synthetic fungicides, but their application has many drawbacks associated with the threatened environment and human health. Therefore, the use of natural plants with antimicrobial potential could be a promising alternative to overcome the side effects of fungicides. In this regard, this study aimed at evaluating the antifungal activity potential of saffron petal extract (SPE) against three mains important fungal pathogens: Rhizopus stolonifer, Penicillium digitatum and Botritys cinerea, which cause rot decay on the tomato, orange and apple fruits, respectively. In addition, the organic composition of SPE was characterized by attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FT-IR) spectroscopy and its biochemical, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses were carried out. The obtained results highlighted an increased inhibition rate of the mycelial growth and spore germination of the three pathogenic fungi with increasing SPE concentrations. The mycelial growth and spore germination were completely inhibited at 10% of the SPE for Rhizopus stolonifer and Penicillium digitatum and at 5% for B. cinerea. Interestingly, the in vivo test showed the complete suppression of Rhizopus rot by the SPE at 10%, and a significant reduction of the severity of grey mold disease (37.19%) and green mold, when applied at 5 and 10%, respectively. The FT-IR spectra showed characteristic peaks and a variety of functional groups, which confirmed that SPE contains phenolic and flavonoid components. In addition, The average value of the total phenolic content, flavonoid content and half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) were 3.09 ± 0.012 mg GAE/g DW, 0.92 ± 0.004 mg QE/g DW and 235.15 ± 2.12 µg/mL, respectively. A volatile analysis showed that the most dominant component in the saffron petal is 2(5H)-Furanone (92.10%). Taken together, it was concluded that SPE could be used as an alternative to antioxidant and antifungal compounds for the control of postharvest diseases in fruits.

Canker symptoms were observed on almond trees in the Fez-Meknes region, Morocco. Isolations were conducted from the infected branch and trunk showing internal and external brown lesions. Four representative fungal isolates were screened, and their identities were confirmed by cultural traits and sequence analysis of DNA using two genes, the ITS region (internal transcribed spacer) and calmodulin (cmdA). The identified fungi were Curvularia hawaiiensis, Fusarium ambrosium, Lasiodiplodia theobromae, and Chondrestereum purpureum. The pathogenicity test on almond twigs revealed that these species were pathogenic to their host with different degrees of virulence, with Lasiodiplodia theobromae as the most virulent causing the longest necrotic lesion (285.17 mm) and the death of twigs. Physiological traits analysis of the above-mentioned fungi showed that the optimum mycelium growth response at different temperatures varies from 10 to 35 °C, while the pH ranges between 3.0 and 8.0. This study confirms the presence of canker pathogens on almond trees, which will contribute valuable information to improve the understanding of the contemporary status of almond trees, thus helping the improvement of the management of almond orchards. To our knowledge, all these fungi represent new records in Morocco and some of them are confirmed on the almond trees for the first time in the world.

أجريت دراسة ترسيبية للرسوبات السطحية لقطاع من الرصيف القاري السوري المقابل لشمال مدينة طرطوس بالاعتماد على تحاليل الحجم الحبيبي بهدف تحديد طبيعة وتوزع الرسوبات، وفهم البيئات والعمليات الترسيبية السائدة في منطقة الدراسة. أظهرت دراسة 68 عينة رسوبية من منطقة الدراسة وجود الرمل والسيلت والغضار بنسب مختلفة تبعاً لموقع الاعتيان وأوضحت قيم معاملات الحجم الحبيبي للعينات الرسوبية السطحية المدروسة حجم حبيبي متوسط، فرز معتدل إلى سيئ الفرز، التواء سلبي إلى سلبي جداً وأغلب الرسوبات ذات تفرطح متوسط. تم تحميل النتائج على خرائط رقمية لإعطاء صورة أوضح عن خصائص منطقة الدراسة وتبين أن وجود الأمواج ذات الطاقة العالية ساعد على نقل وتشتت الرسوبات على طول الرصيف القاري ونقلها بواسطة التيارات الساحلية للأعماق المفتوحة. تشير النتائج السابقة أن الترسيب حصل تحت شروط طاقة معتدلة إلى عالية، وتغير طاقة الوسط مع العمق.
