Background: Typhoid fever is still a major public health issue in Sudan, notably in communities with limited healthcare systems, with an uneducated population that lives in unhygienic environments, and with residents who habitually drink unsafe water from tube wells rather than washing their hands after using the restroom. Objective: To clarify the prevalence and risk factors for typhoid fever among those who are symptomatic and consult the Omar Bin Al-Khattab Health Center, the current study was performed. Methods: To clarify the incidence and predisposing factors of typhoid fever among patients presenting at Omar Bin Al Kattab Health Center, a retrospective analytical study was performed in 2022. From each level, 50 respondents in total were selected randomly. The tool for gathering information was an open-ended questionnaire included personal data as well as risk factors. History of typhoid fever was confirmed by detection of antibodies of S. typhi by using ICT for enteric fever (ICT INTERNATIONAL ,South Africa, with sensitivity: 86.7%,specificity: 99.7%, and accuracy: 99.0% ) ,and S. paratyphi were not detected .The statistical program for the social sciences (SPSS), version 16, was used to describe and interpret the study's statistics. With the use of an anonymous research tool, respondent confidentiality was secured. Informed consent was obtained from the patients by making voluntary contact with them via their registered phone numbers. The gathered information was only intended to further the priorities of the research. Results: The plurality of study participants (66%) were between the ages of 21 and 40, and 54% (27) were undergraduates. 58% of participants have experienced typhoid (S. typhi), and 90% of interviewees were knowledgeable of the infection. In accordance with the allocation of participants based on the mode of transmission, food and drink account for 74% of all participants, making them more fundamental precepts of typhoid fever transmission. Summer was the most common season for typhoid (64%), and 52% of participants had fever as a distinct feature. 42 % of respondents claimed that the water supply was healthy. The food is heated before meals by 50% of participants, prepared at home by 40% of respondents, and purchased ready-to-eat by 18% of informants. Furthermore, 34% of people use heating to kill microbes, with vaccination being the least effective approach. Conclusion: The study revealed that the total prevalence of typhoid fever in the group studied was 58%, and knowledge, awareness, healthy and well-prepared food, as well as water supply, are significant risk factors.

Background: It is debatable if the mother's iron level affects the fetal red blood cell parameters and whether the fetus' blood develops independently of the mother. When diagnosing and monitoring newborn anemia, the values of hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrits (HCT) were involved. Neonatal hematological illness is typically diagnosed using samples of umbilical cord blood. Objective: The objective of this research was to determine whether or not there is a relationship between maternal and cord blood red cell parameters. Methods: At the Al-Fashir Maternal Hospital in North Darfur, Sudan, a cross-sectional study was carried out, including 100 mothers who were giving birth between January and March 2015. In an EDTA-containing tube, three milliliters of venous blood were drawn to measure the mothers' red blood cell parameters prior to birth. Immediately upon delivery, the babies' umbilical cords were clamped and the babies' end of the cord was cut in order to collect five milliliters of cord blood. Hematological parameters were measured using a conventional coulter gram, comprising measurements of hemoglobin (Hb), RBC count, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. Results: 100 samples of umbilical cord blood and 100 samples of maternal blood were combined for the analysis. All of the red blood cell characteristics, with the exception of MCHC, were discovered to be higher in the cord blood samples than the maternal blood samples. Statistics showed that the difference was significant. While 59 (59%) of the moms had normal red blood cell characteristics, 41 (41%) of the mothers were anemic. There were no statistically significant differences between newborns with anemic mothers and those with normal mothers when red blood cell parameters were compared. Red cell indices for mothers and neonates did not correlate statistically significantly, including Hb (r=0.13, P-value: 0.2), HCT (r=0.1, P-value: 0.24), RBCs (r= 0.1, P-value: 0.29), MCV (r=0.06, P-value: 0.54), MCH (r= 0.07, P-value: 0.48), MCHC (r= 0.09, P-value: 0.36), RDW-SD (r=0.09, P-value: 0.32) and RDW-CV (r=0.08, P-value: 0.46). There was no significant variance between the red blood cell parameters of male neonates (46%) and female neonates (54%) as well as the link between the red blood cell parameters of cord blood and mothers' ages. Conclusion: Maternal and cord blood red cell parameters did not significantly correlate. In comparison to maternal blood samples, all of the red blood cell characteristics were shown to be higher in cord blood samples except for MCHC.

This study was conducted by the faculty of Agriculture - University of Nile Valley during winter 2018/2019 to study the effect of three tractor forward speeds (5,7 and 9 km/h) on the performance parameters of the tractor (the draft force, wheel slippage, fuel consumption, field capacity and field efficiency). Tractor performance test was carried out when linked to three implements, which are disc plow, a disc harrow and ridger. The study was carried out on two different locations, location one has a sandy clay soil while location two has a clay texture. The results showed that the draft force, wheel slippage, effective field capacity and fuel consumption increased with an increase in speed. The disc plow with speed (9 km/hr) recorded the highest values of draft force and wheel slippage, while the ridger recorded the lowest values of these parameters for the same speed, except for effective field capacity. The ridger with speed (9km/hr) recorded the highest values of effective field capacity, while the disc plow recorded the lowest values of this parameter for the same speed. The Three implements with speed three (9 km/hr) recorded different values of fuel consumption. The statistical analysis showed that, the effect of forward speed was significant at a 1% level, while the effect of the implementing type showed no significant differences. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized block design with three replicates.

The objectives of this study were to analyze energy input-output and to identify the energy use patterns for sunflower production in the mechanized rain fed agricultural schemes eastern Sudan. The results revealed that the total energy input used to produce sunflower was 1671.33 MJ ha-1 and the total energy output was 11882.83 MJ ha-1. Sunflower production was efficient in energy consumption. The result showed that the energy ratio of output to input was greater than seven. The results indicated that the average net energy, the energy productivity and the specific energy was 10211.5 MJ ha-1, 0.28 kg. MJ-1 and 3.52 MJ kg -1, respectively. Fuel energy input was the highest among the energy input items while hand labor energy input was lower. These results indicate the dependence of sunflower production in rain fed agricultural schemes eastern Sudan on machinery. This necessitated the availability and readiness of the relevant and appropriate machineries as well as sufficient amount of fuel. The results also revealed that the energy profitability was 6.11 and human energy profitability was 1165.83 MJ h-1.The direct energy input was greater than the indirect energy input. Similarly, non-renewable energy was much greater than renewable energy. The established information is useful to manage and to sustain the productivity of sunflower crop in the mechanized rain fed schemes eastern Sudan

Background: Sepsis is a complicated disorder highlighted by the concurrent acceleration of coagulation and inflammation as a consequence of microbial assault. It has an important influence on hospitalized patients' need for mechanical ventilation and ICU admission. Objectives: The study's primary goal is to determine whether septic patients who require invasive mechanical ventilation fared well and whether their clinical condition improved or worsened after being connected to mechanical ventilation. The research also attempts to evaluate how additional medical interventions and other comorbidities affect the patient's prognosis. Material and methods: From November 2017 to May 2018, 160 patients with severe sepsis or septic shock were taken part in a prospective cross-sectional trial. The information was gathered using a straightforward, standardized questionnaire that included questions regarding the admission, progress, and outcome of septic patients who received mechanical ventilation in an intensive care unit. Results: 58 (36%) of the 160 patients were female, with 102 (64%) of the patients being male. In the age range of 60 to 70 years, 41 of them (or 25.6%) were detected. The majority of patients (59/369) had sepsis from a chest infection. Most of the patients, 87 (54.4%), got a combination of midazolam and fentanyl for sedation and analgesia. The majority of the patients, 85 (53%) had SIM/PS ventilation. Ultimately, 71 patients (44.4%) died, 80 patients (50%) were extubated, and 9 patients (5.6%) remained stationary and had a tracheostomy. Additionally, age, reasons, sedative type, and duration of stay were all substantially linked with the MV consequences (P 0.05). Conclusion: The better the outcome, the earlier septic patients who need IMV were identified and attached to IMV. It has been demonstrated that receiving IMV decreased mortality in septic patients by around 50%. The findings suggest that this intervention should be made more widely available and more reasonably priced by the authorities, along with the training of additional staff and the development of standard protocols for treating patients with such a condition. Focusing on health education awareness, establishing a focused outpatient department, and promptly screening patients who necessitate early referral to a tertiary care facility are the three most crucial aspects.

Background: The fifth Millennium Development Goal aims for a decrease in maternal mortality and universal access to high-quality reproductive health care. Every year, around a third of a million women die as a result of pregnancy-related complications. Three-quarters of these deaths might have been avoided. One of the most important markers of mother and child health care is the Maternal Mortality Ratio. One of the most significant aims of the national family welfare program is to reduce maternal fatalities are thought to be preventable. Objective: The study's focus is to document, investigate, and report the events and circumstances behind maternal fatalities, as well as to study maternal deaths in River Nile State in order to identify the maternal mortality rate and causes of death. Methodology: This is a hospital and community-based research that took place from January to December 2018 at River Nile State. Information on every maternal death was obtained using a questionnaire which was filled out and rechecked to completely cover State, and then analyzed using SPSS version 20. Results: The overall number of live births was 25988, with 29 incidents of maternal death. 112/100000 live births was the death rate. 27 of the patients (93%) died in a hospital, whereas two instances (7%) died at home. Obstetric hemorrhage was the leading cause of maternal death in seven cases (24.1%), followed by hypertensive disorders in seven cases (24.1%), sepsis in four cases (17.2%), indirect obstetric causes in three cases (10.3%), embolism (PE & AFE) in three cases (10.3%), unclassified causes in four cases (13.7%), and abortion in one case (3.4 %). The bulk of the cases were delayed at home (14 cases, 48.3%), with 10 cases (34.4%) having no delay and five (17.2%) being delayed in reaching hospitals. Unfortunately, 19 instances (65.5%) died as a result of preventable causes. Conclusion: In 2018, the maternal death rate in River Nile State was 112/100,000 live births, which was higher than in the previous report. Maternal fatalities were mostly caused by hemorrhage, hypertensive diseases, and sepsis. The bulk of deaths were postponed until they reached their final destination.

Background: Aim: Estimation of alkaline phosphatase levels in prostate cancer patients attending the National Cancer Institute of Gezira University to determine the association between elevated alkaline phosphatase levels and metastases in prostatic cancer patients. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional hospital-based study to estimate alkaline phosphatase enzyme levels in patients with prostatic cancer who attended National Cancer Institute, Gezira University's between September and December 2018. A structured questionnaire was developed and prescribed to 100 subjects, which included personal and medically important information. The level of alkaline phosphatase was determined, and a biopsy was performed, with the results interpreted by a histopathologist. SPSS-23 was used to analyze the data. Results: Patients with metastatic prostatic cancer accounted for 50% of the patients in the research, and 51% of them had an alkaline phosphatase level greater than (124U/L). Bone metastasis was the most prevalent site of metastasis, accounting for 50% of all cases, whereas liver metastasis accounted for 12% of all cases. Radiation prostatectomy plus radiotherapy was the most prevalent treatment for prostatic cancer, accounting for 86 % of cases. In comparison to individuals with non-metastatic prostate cancer, the majority of patients with metastatic prostatic cancer had an elevated alkaline phosphatase. Conclusion: Finally, we discovered that the level of alkaline phosphatase is significantly raised in patients with metastatic prostate cancer. Early detection and treatment will limit the impact of this serious condition.

Objectives: It was previously thought that adiponectin influenced insulin activity in tissues. Insulin resistance caused by obesity is associated to reduced plasma adiponectin levels. Researchers may be able to better understand the role of adiponectin in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes by comparing adiponectin levels in T2DM patients to non-diabetic patients, as well as its connection with BMI and WC. Method: A case-control study was conducted at the Abu A'gla Health Care Center for diabetes care in Wad Madani, Gezira State, Sudan, between April 2012 and March 2013. The study involved a total of 181 participants. To measure adiponectin, FPG, and HbA1C levels, patients were divided into diabetes and non-diabetic groups. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated, and the waist circumference (WC) was measured. Personal information (age and gender) were obtained. Samples were analyzed for many biochemical parameters using the A15, a random-access auto-analyzer bio system. To quantify adiponectin, ELIZA employed the techniques of a human adiponectin ELISA kit. Background: Skin diseases are a significant public health concern that affects a considerable percentage of children, causing discomfort and disabilities. Objective: The focus of this research was to determine the most frequent skin diseases among children in the Dermatology Department of the Tropical Disease Teaching Hospital. Methodology: This is a retrospective hospital-based research that took place from January to December 2021 at the Tropical Disease Teaching Hospital. Results: One hundred and eighty patients, ranging in age from one to eighteen years old, were included in this study, with males accounting for 60.7 % of the total (n=68). The overwhelming majority of the patients (90.2%, n=101) were from Khartoum state. In the majority of cases (92.9 % - n=104), the patients' residential situations were a risk factor; there was no crowd in their households, and 83.9 % (94) of the participants had no animals in their homes. In terms of water supply, 85.7 % (96) of the patients used tap water. The majority of patients (90.2 % - n=101) had no seasonality skin condition, and none of the patients have any chronic disorders, according to their clinical data. Skin diseases are prevalent among the patients. Throughout study, contagious skin disease affected more than half of the patients (57.1 %, n =64). Furthermore, fungal infection was found in 62.5 % (40) of patients. The great majority of patients (96.4 %, n=108) responded well to therapy. Conclusion: The sex distribution revealed a significant disparity between males and females, with females outweighing males. The majority of the patients were under the age of five. The preponderance of the incidents was linked to housing situations. There is no seasonal variation in the occurrence of illness. Skin disease was evident in more than half of the individuals. A statistical correlation was revealed between the type of skin condition and a family history of similar condition, as well as the duration of treatment.

Objective: The aim of this research is to investigate the sero-prevalence of hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infection among apparently healthy volunteer blood donors, as well as the relationship between serological evidence of viral hepatitis and age and demographic characteristics. Methods: A retrospective study of sequential blood donation findings from January to December 2017 was performed in North Darfur, Western Sudan. The descriptive quantities were calculated using Chi-square test. Results: A total of 4527 respondents showed an interest in donating blood. All of them were between the ages of 17 and 49 years. A total of 247 (5.5%) and 19 (0.4%) donors tested positive for HBV and HCV, respectively, while 4280 (94.5%) and 4508 (99.6%) donors tested negative for HBV and HCV, respectively. On both HBV and HCV, there was a strong association between serological evidence of viral hepatitis and age (P =0.000). In comparison to the other age categories, the prevalence of HBV and HCV was higher in age group (35-39) and (40 or more) years, (76/247) 30.8 % and (171/247) 69.2 % for HBV and (7/19) 36.8% and (12/19) 62.2 % for HCV. Conclusions: Blood donors in North Darfur have been shown to have a high prevalence of HBV infection and a low frequency of HCV. There was a statistically significant relationship between viral hepatitis and age, but a negative statistically significant relationship between occupancy and age.

Background: Hemodialysis (HD) is the most extensively used dialysis method globally, and it necessitates vascular access. Arteriovenous fistulas (AVF), arteriovenous grafts, and central venous catheters (CVC), which can be tunneled or not, are all methods for gaining access. Vascular access is a major risk factor for bacteremia, hospitalization, and mortality among HD patients. The efficacy of Actolind solution in suppressing jugular catheter infection sites in patients with positive jugular catheter culture swab was investigated, as well as the efficiency of Actolind solution opposed to iodine. Methodology: This was a prospective, randomized, comparable efficacy clinical trial completed at the renal unit of the Port Sudan teaching hospital's renal dialysis center. The patient group was recruited from across the Red Sea State. A retrospective study of 50 End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients who were either on upkeep HD or were scheduled to receive a kidney transplant as soon as possible. Sociodemographics, comorbidities, and microbiological growth outcomes were gathered prior to and after the interventional procedure. Results: According to the results, the male to female ratio was 4:1. There were 39 males and 11 females. All of the patients had ESRD, with 10 of them being hypertensive and diabetic, 34 being diabetic solely, and 16 being hypertension exclusively. Gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria, and yeasts constituted 32 (64%), 20 (40%), and 6 (12%) of the cultivars, respectively. Seven patients out of fifty had mixed infections (14%). Forty-one wound swab results after intervention were negative, while nine patients had persistent infection confirmed by positive cultures. Conclusion: Removal of CVC due to infection or catheter malfunction occurred less often with Actolind-based lock solutions. We present the prospective comparing Actolind - and iodine -based lock solutions yet. However, due to the retrospective observational nature of this study, conclusions with regard to superiority should be considering.

Metallic plasmonic substrates such as gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have fascinated researchers due to their usefulness in verious interdisciplinary studies at the interface between applied physics, biochemistry, engineering, and medicine. A good understanding of the physics of these noble nanostructures, particularly the plasmonic and optical properties, can be employed to improve a wide range of sensors and electronic devices. The relevance of molecular recognition and the binding of biological and chemical entities to diagnostics, biosensors, and drug delivery has attracted significant research interest. By addressing material functionalization design and advanced characterization methods, this doctoral work aims to highlight efforts to exploit the surface modification strategies to enhance the responsiveness of nanoparticle substrates for improved detection of health-relevant biomolecules. The self-assembly of small ligands, such as alkanethiols, and oligonucleotides on the surface of AuNPs provided a possible starting route for the preparation of bio-nanomaterials with precise physicochemical properties. The versatile AuNPs were optimized and thoroughly characterized by employing electron microscopy techniques such as transmission electron microscope (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), spectroscopic techniques, including ultraviolet/visible (UV/Vis), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and thermal lens spectrometry (TLS), and biochemical assays (gel electrophoresis, Dot plot, Western plot, and the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)). Subsequently, the molecular recognition capabilities of functionalized AuNPs were investigated using multiple techniques, including novel detection routes such as the electrophoresis approach coupled with online TLS. This work establishes a versatile platform for AuNP engineering with controlled size and surface functionality. Background: Tinea capitis is a widespread fungal disease affecting the scalp, hair follicles, and skin underlying them. Ring worm infection is most common in children, particularly in late childhood and adolescence, as well as in immunocompromised individuals. There are no reports on the prevalence of Tinea capitis in children in Port Sudan. Objective: The aim of this study is to explore out how prevalent Tinea capitis is in school-aged children, to identify associated risk factors, to help raise public awareness about the importance of hygiene and treatment, and to mitigate infection spread. Methods: This study included a retrospective descriptive review of dermatology clinic patient reports from May 2016 to March 2018, as well as a direct interview with primary school students in Port Sudan, Red Sea State. To recognize the most susceptible age groups, genders, risk factors, and clinical manifestations. Data was collected based on clinical diagnosis by dermatologists, and children were interviewed based on laboratory diagnosis by authors using KOH of unstained scraping preparations after overnight incubation, and Tinea capitis was confirmed microscopically. Data from documents and questionnaires were manually interred and analyzed, and frequencies were measured and displayed in tables. Results: An overall prevalence of Tinea capitis was (17%) 235/1350 among the entire study population. The study showed that the disease is more in male than female with male: female ratio (4:1), and the most vulnerable age group was (4–8 years), 116/235 (49.4%), the incidence was increased by crowding [46/50,92%] the most affected neighborhoods was El Qadisiyah[62/235 (26.4%)].The commonest clinical feature was the weakness of the hair[40/50,80%]. Conclusion: There has never been a report on Tinea capitis in Port Sudan, and there are no screening services to assess the incidence. According to the findings of present study, Tinea capitis was common (17%) among children attending government-owned state primary schools in Portsudan-Red Sea State. Male gender and residing in Sudan's Red Sea climatic region were reported to be independent risk factors.

Helicobacter pylori is a highly motile bacteria with numerous unipolar flagella that generates urease. H. pylori's virulence components consist of its flagella and urease. H. pylori frequently causes a chronic infection in the stomach, which can result in gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastric malignancies, and gastric lymphomas, as well as other gastrointestinal illnesses. For H. pylori, there are numerous invasive and noninvasive clinical laboratory testing. Laboratory testing is not recommended for asymptomatic patients and should only be considered if H. pylori infection therapy is planned. If an endoscopy is done on the patient, invasive testing for H. pylori, including as tissue histology, culture, and fast urease assays, are utilized. Patients whose symptoms do not require endoscopy are advised to undergo noninvasive tests for H. pylori, such as enzyme antibody and urea breath tests. Therefore, comprehensive search through literature using electronic databases; PubMed and Embase to search all relevant studies to our review topics, that were published in English language and limited to human subjects up to June 2022.

Medicinal plants, recognized and employed in conventional medicine practices since prehistoric era. Plants produce thousands of chemical substances for functions counting defence against insects, fungi, bacterial and parasitic diseases. Malaria is most widespread parasitic infection , it caused by coccidian protozoa of the genus plasmodium , four species are mostly infect human, P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malriae and P. ovale, Majority of malaria cases resulted from P. falciparum and P. vivax. Uric acid regarded as one of the damaging molecular patterns of malaria parasite infection, and in this review we discussed the potential role of medicinal plants used as antimalarial to diminish the level of uric acid in gout patients. These may suggest that most of the complication associated with malaria, may attributed to amplified level of uric acid . Experimental studies recommended.

Both malaria and leishmania are most widespread protozoon parasitic diseases, certainly in tropical countries of the world. Malaria leishmania coinfection is common in leishmaniasis endemic areas which is mostly endemic to malaria too. Researchers notice that in cases of malaria leishmania coinfection , leishmania species find the some extent the outcome of malaria infection , but also behavior of malaria parasite species play a significant role to figure the consequences of it. While L. donovani protect from severe malaria complications by suppression of major histocompatibility class Ⅱ , so it diminish the clinical severity of malaria but not malaria parasite density due to dysfunction of major histocompatibility class I, which controlled by suppressed one, In another side L. mexicana tends to sequester in macrophages and lead to severe clinical outcomes when it coexisted with malaria parasite at same host. Experimental studies required to know more information about coinfection of different malaria and leishmania species to establish clinical research. Leishmania infection excluded when studies aim to assess the immune response to only malaria parasite, experimental studies required involving different species of malaria and leishmania.

Aim: To identify β globin gene haplotypes and their frequencies in patients with SCD in North Darfur state, western Sudan Methods: This is a cross-sectional prospective community-based study that was carried out between December 2017 and August 2018. The study took place in the North Darfur state which is located in western Sudan. The study included 666 individuals (369 females and 297 males). Participants were screened for haemoglobinopathies using haemoglobin electrophoresis, while β globin haplotypes analysis for patients with SCD was carried out using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results: Among the 666 participants, 579 (86.94%) had normal hemoglobin (AA), while 70 (10.51%), 13 (1.95%), and 4 (0.6%) had AS, SS, and AD respectively. Cameroon haplotype was found in 42.3% of the study group. Benin was 26.9%, Bantu was 23.1% and Senegal was 7.7%. Conclusion: The Cameron haplotype was found to be most prominent in Sudanese patients, thereby confirming the findings of previous studies in the country. Background: Sudan has a significant frequency of COVID-19 infections. Since the first case was disclosed, the Sudanese Federal Ministry of Health has increased monitoring at entrances. A variety of influences have culminated in the outbreak of cases in Sudan, all of which are intimately relevant to the disease's public propagation. Methods: A hospital-based analytical Cross-Sectional study was implemented at the second wave of the corona pandemic. Seven hundred and seventy patients were submitted in the Red Sea State from April to September 2020. Prevalence and characteristics of suspected COVID-19 patients including: gender predominance, most susceptible age group, mortality rate, comorbidity as associated risk factors and forecast the second wave scenarios. Results: COVID-19 RNA was detectable in four hundred and eighteen patients out of a total of seven hundred and seventy, with a value of more than fifty-four percent. Two hundred and seventy-two cases were male, constituting more than sixty percent of the study participants. The study population's mortality rate remained at 14%, with seventy of the four hundred and eighteen deaths reported. Cardiovascular disease was the leading cause of mortality, followed by diabetes, hypertension, chronic pulmonary diseases, and cancer. Each of these medical conditions contributed to more than 10% of all fatalities. Conclusion: The study concluded that COVID-19 is prevalent among the Sudanese Red Sea State's populace. Males are more susceptible to infection than females. The elderly are more prone to COVID-19 than other age groups. Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, malignancy, and chronic respiratory conditions. All these chronic, debilitating illnesses are related to the high mortality rate.

Background: Caffeine is a significant component of coffee, which is one of the most extensively, consumed non-alcoholic beverages. Caffeine is a methylxanthine-class central nervous system stimulant that is one of the most extensively utilized medications on the planet. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and is perhaps the most extensively used psychoactive stimulant. It causes gastrointestinal disturbances, tremor, headache, and sleeplessness, palpitations, cardiac arrhythmias, and it has been proposed that caffeine is possibly hypertensive. Aim: The goal of the study was to see how caffeine affected the blood pressure of Sudanese adult females in Gezira state's east during July and August 2018. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional prospective study of 400 females aged 18 to 70 years old from various areas of Gezira State was conducted. Caffeine was not consumed by the participants for 12 hours before to the test. Blood pressure was monitored at baseline after 20 minutes of rest, then 45 minutes later after consuming a 150 mL cup of boiling coffee (120 mg caffeine) (each cup contain teaspoon 10 g of coffee powder). A questionnaire was created to collect personal and demographic information. Body mass index (BMI) was computed after measuring weight and height. Background: Because syphilis is often asymptomatic, it might go unrecognized. Furthermore, infection transfer from mother to unborn child is a concern. Preventing poor pregnancy effects in relation with maternal infection by screening and treating women for syphilis throughout pregnancy. Aiming at exploring anti treponemal antibodies among pregnant women in Berber Teaching Hospital our study was implemented. Methods: A cross-sectional, hospital based study was performed at Berber Teaching Hospital in River Nile State. Encompassed pregnant women who attended Hospital. Following an explanation of the study's goal, 100 serum samples were taken, and data was collected from each respondent using an interview questionnaire, 100 blood samples were obtained to identify syphilis anti bodeis. All specimens were analyzed using the Rapid Plasma Reagin test (RPR), which was confirmed by an enzyme linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA) (fortress diagnostics/UK). Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 19) was used to manage informational gathered. Results: ELISA found 9% of syphilis positive patients, whereas RPR identified 10%.Age of respondents ranged between 16 to 43 years, 53 % of study participants categorized at (30 – 36 years) and 62 % at third trimester of gestational. The highest prevalence of syphilis was 4 % reported in age group (23 – 29 years) and 5% at third trimester. Conclusion: The syphilis sero-prevalence among pregnant women in the current research was 9% by ELISA and 10% by RPR. Background: Diarrhea is a serious public health issue on a global scale and is prevalent in underdeveloped nations. Diarrhea kills at least four million children under the age of five annually. The Rotavirus is the most prevalent infectious agent causing diarrhea in young infants throughout the world. The point of the study is to reveal the significance of the Rotavirus vaccine in counteracting Rotavirus diarrhea, the incidence of cases among completely vaccinated children, the severity and mortality of Rotavirus diarrhea in vaccinated children, and seasonal fluctuations in Rotavirus diarrhea prevalence, Omdurman Pediatric Teaching Hospital was the setting of the current investigation. Methods: A prospective hospital-based inquiry was conducted at Omdurman Pediatric Teaching Hospital, where children aged three and under who visited the study region complained of three loose or watery bowel movements in 24 hours, as well as two or more episodes of inexplicable vomiting. To participate in the current trial, patients had to be hospitalized or treated for gastroenteritis as a primary disease and had symptoms for seven days or fewer. Age, gender, weight, immunization status, and illness severity were the study parameters. The outcome variable was whether or not the child was diagnosed with Rotavirus diarrhea. Patients are chosen if they meet all of the criteria for inclusion. Enzyme- linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) was used for the presence of group A Rotavirus. Rotavirus antigen was detected in 28% of the overall specimens. Patients under the age of one year had the greatest infection incidence (49.5 %). The risk of Rotavirus infection was reported to be 32.6 % in children who got one dose of the vaccination and 25.7 % in children who received two doses. Those who were partly vaccinated had a higher rate of patients with extremely severe illness (30 %). Conclusion: The prevalence, severity, and mortality of Rotavirus diarrheas are reduced when children are vaccinated against it. Fully vaccinated children were less likely to become infected and had a lower severity rate. In order to be included in the vaccine, more research is needed to pinpoint the virus serotype that causes illness in Sudan.

Objective: Ichthyoses are cornification disorders in which irregular epidermal separation and desquamation result in a faulty epidermal membrane. Harlequin ichthyosis (HI) was a rare and extreme type that led to neonatal death. It was caused by mutations in the ABCA12 gene, and the inheritance pattern is autosomal recessive. Case report: We present a case of HI that was diagnosed postnatally by clinical review. Extreme ectropion, eclabium, flattened nose, and primitive ears were discovered in the fetus. As a result of HI complications, the fetus died. Conclusion: The presence of HI was linked to a poor prognosis and a high mortality rate. Prenatal ultrasound and genetic analysis were critical for prenatal diagnosis of HI, but genetic modalities were not available and were prohibitively costly, despite their utility in providing appropriate prenatal therapy to families with HI babies. Background: The corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic in China was caused by the extreme acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARSCoV-2), December 2019. Objective: To determine the prevalence of syphilis sero-positivity among blood donors, as well as the interaction between syphilis and age as well as demographic details. Methods: In North Darfur State, Western Sudan, a retrospective analysis of consecutive blood donation records from January to December 2018 was implemented. The quantitative descriptive is computed using percentages. Chi-square was used to analyze trends, and the p-value was used to determine the statistical significance of the parameter. Results: There were 4969 men between the ages of 15 to 55 who were eligible to donate blood, were screened for syphilis, 646 (13.0% ) had biomarker evidence of syphilis, while the rest (87%) were negative. A strong association has been reported between residential and biomarker evidence of syphilis infection in the study (P = 0.001). The occurrence of transfusion-transmissible infections was disproportionate to age (P = 0.63).As compared to the other age groups, the (15-25) and (26-35) year age groups has a higher prevalence: 243 (4.8%) and 276 (5.5%) were positive, accordingly. Conclusion: There seems to be an increasing proportion of sero-positive VDRL in blood donations in North Darfur State. An association between syphilis infection and residency was realized, as well as a high prevalence within a particular age demographic without a statistically meaningful correlation.

Asymptotic distributions of OLS estimators and t-type statistics under different tests of hypotheses have been derived. A simulation study has been established to compare between different tests of the unit root. Mean squared error (MSE) and Thiel's inequality coefficient (Thiel’s U) have been considered as criteria of comparison.

Objective: A variety of observations of the hemoglobin D (Hgb D) phenotype has occurred in association with family studies of patients with sickle cell disease. Very little is known about the occurrence and prevalence of the Hgb D variant and its impact on blood profiles among Sudanese. This study was aimed at determining the percentage of Hb D in North Darfur State, West Sudan, whose population has been shown to have hemoglobin-S (Hb S) disease. Methods: From December 2017 to August 2018, this descriptive community-based investigation was conducted. Six hundred and sixty-six (666) people were randomly selected to participate in this study. With each participant's there was verbal consent. A questionnaire was designed to collect personal details. 5 mL of venous blood was gathered in EDTA containers. The Hb D variant was checked using Sebia Minicap Automated Capillary Electrophoresis System- USA and frequency was calculated using version 21.0 of the software package for social science (SPSS). Result: The prevalence of Hb variants was as follows: AD=0.6%, SS=2%, AS=10.5 %, and AA=86.9%. Conclusion: The prevalence of Hb D variant was 4 (0.6 %) in 666 participants from four western Sudanese tribes, beside reported of Hb SS and Hb AS.

Objective: The aim of this study was to find the seroprevalence of TORCH infection among volunteered pregnant women and to find out the correlation between TORCH infection and age, complicated pregnancies and education level. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional laboratory-based study carried out between March to June 2012 at Atbara River Nile State northern Sudan. The statistical descriptive determined in means of percentages. Chi-square used for trend analysis and calculates p-values. Results: A total of (75) voluntary pregnant women, Age between 15-55 years. The most common age group was 26-35 years (37/75) 49%.Serological evidence of Toxoplasmosis were positive for (22/75) 29 %. All volunteered pregnant women were negative for other components of TORCH complex. Study showed non-significant correlation between age, education level and complicated pregnancies, P-value 0.13, 0.43 and 0.51 respectively. Conclusion: Low prevalence of Toxoplasmosis and absent of serological evidence of other TORCH complex among volunteered pregnant women in Atbara has been documented. Insignificant correlation between toxoplasmosis and age, education level as well as number of complicated pregnancies reported. This attributed, in part, to the small sample size and using screening tool as diagnostic modalities.

Introduction: The present study aimed to find the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis and assess its associated risk factors among pregnant women. Methods: This retrospective hospital-based study was carried out in the period between January 2009 and December 2010 in Eldammar, River Nile State, Sudan. Chi-square was used for trend analysis, and P value was used to declare the statistical significance between the variables. Results: A total of 383 pregnant women (age range: 16–45 years) visiting Eldammar teaching hospital and other health centers for antennal care were selected. Using latex agglutination test (LAT), 74.7% (285/383) were positive for toxoplasmosis . ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) was used for IgM & IgG confirmatory, and the results showed that 26% (74/285) and 34.7% (99/285) were positive for toxoplasmosis. There was a significant correlation between serological evidence of toxoplasmosis and low education level, eating undercooked meat, and drinking raw milk (PConclusion: There was a high prevalence of toxoplasmosis among pregnant women of the studied population. A positive correlation was reported between toxoplasmosis and low education level, eating undercooked meat, and drinking raw milk.

While generally mild in children, rubella infection during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, foetal death or congenital rubella syndrome. Rubella vaccination is not yet available as a part of routine immunisation in Sudan, and the burden of infection is unknown. Using the clinical case definition adopted by the World Health Organisation, a total of 123 children suspected of having of measles were enrolled in this study during January-December 2017 in Gadarif Hospital, Eastern Sudan. Those cases whose sera were negative for measles IgM antibodies were tested for rubella IgM antibody. A confirmed rubella case was a person who tested positive for rubella IgM. Sera were analysed for IgM specific antibodies against measles virus and rubella virus using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Among the total 123 children suspected to have measles, 92 (74.8%) children were positive for measles IgM antibodies. Of the 31 children who had measles IgM antibodies negative, 20 (16.3%) children were seropositive for rubella IgM antibodies. Implementation of a surveillance system will provide the improved estimates of rubella virus and estimated the burden of congenital rubella syndrome. Such information is necessary and it is an important step for future policy decisions for vaccine delivery strategies.

Background The World Health Organization (WHO) encourages early initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour after birth with the objective of saving children’s lives. There are few published research papers about factors associated with the initiation of breastfeeding in Sudan. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of and factors associated with the timely initiation of breastfeeding among mothers with children two years and under in Kassala, Eastern Sudan. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2016 to March 2017. Mothers were interviewed using a structured questionnaire. Results A total of 250 mother-child pairs participated in the study. The mean (standard deviation) of maternal age and children’s age was 27.1 (5.68) years and 11.9 (6.9) months, respectively. Of the 250 mothers, 218 (87.2%) initiated breastfeeding within the first hour. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, factors associated with the delay of breastfeeding initiation were having a male baby (Adjusted Odds Ratio [AOR] 3.90, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]1.33, 11.47), and mothers with medical disorders (AOR 5.07, 95% CI 1.22, 21.16). Conclusion There was a high prevalence of early initiation of breastfeeding. An association with delayed initiation of breastfeeding was found amongst mothers who had medical disorders and those who had a male infant. Wherever possible, early initiation of breastfeeding should be promoted for all infants, regardless of gender.

BackgroundAnemia is a major cause of global morbidity and mortality, particularly among children. Management of anemia depends on causes and severity of anemia. However blood transfusion is a lifesaving intervention in severe and life-threatening anemia. There are no published data on blood transfusion for anemia in Sudan.MethodsA descriptive study was conducted in Gadarif Hospital in eastern Sudan during 1 August, 2017 to 31 March, 2018. Consecutive children who presented at the emergency room with an indication for blood transfusion were enrolled in the study. A detailed history was gathered from all patients. Physical examinations, including vital signs, were performed. The World Health Organization guidelines for blood transfusion were followed.ResultsDuring the study period, a total of 1800 children were admitted to the emergency pediatric ward in Gadarif Hospital and were assessed for anemia, 513 (28.5%) were anemic and 141 (7.8%) had severe anemia. Three hundred anemic children received blood transfusion. The median (interquartile) of the age of the 300 children who received blood transfusion was 4.2 4.2(2.0-9.0) years. A total of 148 (49.3%) of the children were boys and 151 (50.3%) were younger than 5 years. The diagnoses associated with the order for blood transfusion were sickle cell disease (129, 43.0%), active bleeding (58, 19.3%), malaria (50, 16.7%), visceral leishmaniasis (25, 8.3%), severe acute malnutrition (16, 5.30%), snake bite (11, 3.7%), sepsis (5, 1.7%), and others. Two hundred eighty-five (95.0%) children improved, nine children were discharged against medical advice, and six (2.0%) children died.ConclusionThere is a high burden of anemia in eastern Sudan. Sickle cell disease, malaria, and visceral leishmaniasis are the main causes of anemia in this region. Further research on blood transfusion is needed.
