In vitro fertilization (IVF) is considered to be the most important reproductive biotechnological method having great potential to accelerate genetic improvement in ruminants as well as for research on embryonic development. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of culture medium and the addition of natural and synthetic antioxidants on in vitro maturation (IVM), fertilization (IVF), and culture (IVC) in local Iraqi ewes. A total of 304 reproductive systems of local ewes were collected from a slaughterhouse in Fallujah, Anbar Province, Iraq from 3, January to 1, July 2021. The study was conducted in the Reproductive Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Surgery and Theriogenology, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Fallujah, Iraq. A total of 1368 oocytes were recovered from 608 ovaries surrounded by cumulus cells. The method of collection was aspiration and oocytes were divided into eight treatments. The first (T1), the second (T2), the third (T3), the fourth (T4), the fifth (T5), the sixth (T6), the seventh (T7), and the eighth (T8) treatments were MEM + Capparis spinosa extract 50µmol, MEM + Silymarin extract 100µmol, MEM + Coenzyme Q10 5 µmol, MEM only serves as a control, DMEM + Capparis spinosa extract 50 µmol, DMEM + Silymarin extract 100µmol, DMEM + Coenzyme Q10 5µmol and DMEM only serves as a control, respectively. The results indicated a significant difference (P=0.05) between T5 (DMEM + Capparis spinosa extract) and other controls or treatments. Cultural medium DMEM with Capparis spinosa extract (as an antioxidant) presents the best results in the morula and blastocyst stage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

N-acetyl cysteine was tested on Iraqi sheep for reproductive performance and levels of the reproductive hormones estrogen and progesterone treated with vaginal sponges. The ewes were divided into four groups; each group included 6 ewes. The first group (control) was without any treatment, the second group dosed 6 mg of NAC per kg of live body weight, the third group dosed 9 mg of NAC per kg of live body weight, and the fourth group dosed 12 mg of NAC per kg of body weight. NAC was given on a daily basis in the morning from day 0-30 of the experiment. The reproductive parameters represented by the time of estrus, the rate of estrus, the percentage of pregnancy, births, fertilization, the percentage of twins and the percentage of missed periods were studied. In the jugular vein, blood samples were collected and the levels of the reproductive hormones represented by estrogen and progesterone were studied. For reproductive characteristics, the experiment groups were superior in the percentage of estrus, pregnancy, childbirth, twins and missed rate compared to the control group. As well as increasing the level of reproductive hormones in the experimental groups compared to the control group, and we conclude from this study that the nutritional supplement NAC gave good results in terms of improving reproductive performance and increasing the level of progesterone and estrogen hormones for the Iraqi sheep treated with the nutritional supplement. This study was conducted to detect the role of the organic form of Selenium or Zinc that supported with yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on the liver function and antioxidant enzymes. Twenty-one rams that their average weight of 38±2 kg. The males divided into three groups. The first group (G1) late without treatment, group two (G2) was administrated with (Saccharomyces cerevisiae-Zinc) (0.2 g/kg/ body weight), while group three (G3) was administrated with (Saccharomyces cerevisiae-Selenium) (0.03 g/kg/ body weight). Blood samples were collected from males at zero 45 and 90 days of experiment. The results of AST, ALT and ALP showed non-significant differences between different groups. While the activity antioxidant enzymes recorded a significant improvement, through a significant increased (P≤0.05) of Glutathione peroxidase and catalase concentrations of the group that treated with organic selenium or zinc compare with a control group, from another hand, the treated group with organic selenium has been shown the significant increases (P≤0.05) of Glutathione peroxidase compared with the animals that treated zinc at the third period. Whereas, the treated groups recoded a significant increment (P≤0.05) with the progress of ages. From results concluded that the feeding selenium and zinc as an organic form that fortified by yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae significantly increases antioxidant enzyme activity and have a protective role to the liver. During involution the uterus in ewes undergoes a clear remodeling; unfortunately, information on cellular and molecular activities that controls this interval is inadequate. The working hypothesis of this study applied in, is that uterus returns to a non-pregnant status during involution, involves the proliferative and regeneration activity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) which migrated to the uterus servomechanism that regulates and remodeling endometrial gland epithelial surface postpartum. The present study consist of 15 Iraqi local breed ewes were divided equally into three groups. The 1st and 2nd group were injected intravenously with bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) in a doses 1×108, 2×108 respectively, 48 hours postpartum, while the 3rd group served as a control group. Uterine biopsy were taken at 7, 15, 17 and 21 days postpartum, and processed to histopathological examination. The progressive of involution was clearly observed in treated groups till ended at days 21 for 2nd group, as well as in the 1st group but in a lesser extent. It was concluded that BMSCs has a beneficial effect on uterine involution which is completed at day 21in Iraqi ewes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
