1. e-Learning: Practices Among Undergraduates of a Medical College of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Abstract

Background: Information technology (IT) is a new way of teaching and learning. One of the promising media of information technology is e-Learning, which is used to enhance knowledge and skills among users. A student gains better and deep knowledge through a useful tool. This survey aimed to determine practices among medical students for e-Learning. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted on 184 students amongst the 500 students currently enrolled in medical college. Data was collected using questionnaires and were analyzed through SPSS version 22. Chi-square was used for qualitative values. Results: Majority 90.80% (n=167) students were aware of e-Learning and were statistically high in first year students (p-value: 0.018). The student did not show statistically significant results for content learned through e-Learning with a p-value of 0.063. Different resources were used for e-Learning in which videos had the highest percentage (87.60%) and audios were used as the least resource for e-Learning (29.20%). Daily, 56% of the students use e-Learning for 1 hour or less and only 3% of the students used it for more than 4 hours. Conclusion: Majority of undergraduate medical students were aware of the use of e-Learning and most of them preferred e-Learning for their course work and studies showing a significant increase in understanding and use, compared to studies conducted earlier. Participants found e-Learning useful and effective tool in increasing knowledge and understanding of their subject. Keywords: e-Learning; Practices; Students.

Abstract

This study uses the Weibull analysis to predict the robustness of various mortars based on a fracture process analysis through a flexural test recorded by an acoustic emission sensor. Alkali-activated materials (AAMs) are an alternative to Portland cement that can decrease the amount of emitted CO2. This study aimed to characterise and compare the properties of AAM cement mortars to those of the commonly used ordinary Portland cement (OPC) mortars using the Weibull distribution to clarify the reliability and robustness of the prepared AAM cements; four different AAM cement mortar compositions—with fly ash (F), ground-granulated blast-furnace slag (G), and microsilica (M) alkali activation (sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3))—were considered in this study. The fracture process under a flexural loading of AAMs was based on four combinations of F/G/M activated by the alkaline solution—AAM-IV, AAM-V, AAM-VI, and AAM-VII, with OPC as control. The Weibull analysis showed that AAMs were more robust than the OPC mortar and possessed minor fractures compared to the OPC mortar.

3. Students Perceived Employability: A Systematic Literature Search and Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract

Among higher education students, perceived employability gained eminence in the last decades that attracted scholarly interests. Researchers theoretically and empirically studied the perceived employability though; inadequate preliminary review studies exist on this topic. Available researches mostly concentrated on a single approach. Thus, this study carried out a comprehensive review that comprised a systematic literature review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis that might boost understandings in the body of the literature. In the research process, the Scopus database from the 2008 to 2021 periods was used. The researchers set the search criteria that allowed the inclusion of 59 papers published in 45 peer-reviewed international journals. The paramount influential papers and prolific authors formulated the unit of this analysis. Furthermore, for the identification of thematic clusters and creating network maps, VOS viewer software was deployed. Citation analysis, co-authorship analysis, co-citation analysis, and co-occurrence of keywords analysis have generated interesting patterns which articulate the study results. The findings revealed enlightening insights on the content and characteristics of perceived employability, publication trends, highly cited papers, productive authors, contributing countries, repetitive themes, productive journals, and also unveiled gaps providing avenues for upcoming research works.

Background: The education of students at the postgraduate level is an essential component of our teaching hospitals, which serve as the primary tertiary referral centers. Self-directed learning readiness is an important part of training and learning. Objective: To compare students centered with teacher centered approach among first year students of fellowship training in Ophthalmology. Study type, settings & duration: This randomized controlled trial was carried out at the Ophthalmology Unit of Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar from January to July 2015. Methodology: Thirty postgraduate students participated in the study. They were graded based on individual-based written assignments, individual projects including models and drawing charts, individual presentations on related topics, and an overall summative evaluation based on multiple-choice questions at the end of the course. Evaluation was conducted on group1 and 2 Using SPSS version 22.0, the data was analyzed and the results were presented in the form of tables. The t-test was used to compare mean scores for a variety of assessment scales for both groups. Results: Mean age of the students was 28.8±1.18 years. 5. A consideration on the one-part mixing method of alkali-activated material: problems of sodium silicate solubility and quick setting

Abstract

This research investigates the properties of alkali-activated materials (AAMs) using sodium metasilicate, with the ratio of SiO2:Na2O equals 1. This study was conducted to achieve the following three aims. Firstly, to understand the solubility mechanism of granular sodium metasilicate pentahydrate (Na2SiO3.5H2O) when used in a one-part mixing method. Secondly, to investigate the properties of AAMs when a sodium metasilicate aqueous solution is used as an alkaline material and as a source of silica. Lastly, to study the retardation effect of sucrose on AAMs. This research used aluminum silicate precursors, such as low-calcium fly ash, slag, and micros silica, alkali activators, such as NaOH pellets and Na2SiO3.5H2O, and standardized sand. The alkaline activators were first dissolved in water using a water bath shaker to achieve the alkaline solution. Sucrose, which is about 2% of the weight of the solid precursors, was added to modify the reaction process between the precursors and the alkaline materials. Four types of samples were prepared: M1, M2, M3, and M4, with the fly ash, slag, and silica fume ratios of 80:20:0, 70:30:0, 75:20:5, and 100:0:0, respectively. The research conducted solubility test of the alkaline materials, flowability, 7-, 28-, 56-day compressive and flexural tests, drying shrinkage test of mortar samples, and the setting tests of pastes with and without sucrose. The results show that the dissolution time of the NaOH was much shorter, whereas Na2SiO3.5H2O needed a solvent with a temperature of around 40 °C to be fully dissolved. This problem of solubility decreases the quality of AAMs formed using the one-part mixing method. Among the mortar samples, the M4 had the highest flow rate, while M3 had the lowest flow rate. M2 had the highest compressive and flexural strength of 43.4 MPa and 6.1 MPa, respectively. The setting time test shows that sucrose retards the reaction process in AAM.

Abstract

Low-calcium Fly ash-based alkali-activated materials (AAM) have some extraordinary properties such as high fire resistance and low shrinkage. However, they have lower strength and high setting time when curing at ambient temperature conditions. Therefore, this research aimed to improve the strength and setting time of low-calcium fly ash-based AAM curing at ambient temperature conditions. The effect of the changes in concentration and modulus of sodium silicate and curing condition of the materials were studied on the properties of the AAM. Fly ash type II, 32% sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, 32 and 56% sodium disilicate solution, 8M sodium hydroxide, and standardized were used. Using 32% sodium disilicate solution significantly improved the flowability of mortar. Moreover, it increased the compressive strength and remarkably decreased the setting time of AAM at ambient temperature curing. The decrease in the concentration of sodium disilicate has a significant influence on the reactivity of fly ash.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected all aspects of social work education, including field education. The Transforming the Field Education Landscape (TFEL) partnership conducted two national online surveys to determine the impacts of the pandemic on social work field education. The first survey explored the perspectives of students and received responses from 367 Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students. The second survey was designed to gather the perspectives of field instructors, with 73 field instructors completing the survey. The article examines the impacts of the pandemic on social work practice, field supervision, practicum flexibility and accommodations in placement, the shift to remote learning, perceptions of future career prospects and the effects on wellness and mental health. This article contributes to an increased understanding of the strengths and challenges facing social work field education, and informs field planning and responses in a pandemic. The findings will be of interest to social work field education programmes, field education coordinators and directors, field instructors, field agencies and undergraduate and graduate social work students. Recommendations for social work field education are offered.

Abstract

Background: Ocular misalignment (Strabismus) is one of the major reasons of refractive error in children. Growing children of school age perceive this important condition differently. Objective: To assess perceptions of strabismus among school children of 11 to 16 years of age. Study type settings & duration: This a qualitative study was conducted at 5 schools (03 public sector and 02 private sector) of district Abbotabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan from 1st August 2012 to 31st August 2012. Methodology: After taking the permission from provincial education department, data collection was started from four schools in August 2012 with equal representation of boys and girls. Inclusion criteria was students aged 11 to 16 years. For data collection, semi structured interviews and focus group discussions were conducted. From each school half of the study participants were wearing spectacles for refractive errors of vision. Results: There were 16 students from 5 schools with focus group discussion. A summary of the sub themes given describing the squint as seen by the school children. Majority of the participants say that in squint of the eyes the direction of gaze is different from the one where the eyes are looking, describing it in their own words. A proportion of the subjects say that squint occurs by birth and is present in childhood. Few of them say that apart from other, trauma is also one of the causes of squint. Few say that vision in squint is weak while few of them say that in squint vision is normal. Almost all of the students were of the opinion that doctor should be consulted in case one has weakness of vision. Conclusion: The knowledge about squint, its occurrence, and vision in eyes with squint was quite good. This awareness is very important for timely detection and treatment of squint.

9. FREQUENCY OF ACUTE RISE OF INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE FOLLOWING YAG LASER POSTERIOR CAPSULOTOMY

Abstract

Background: Posterior capsular opacification (PCO) is the most frequent complication of cataract surgery. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of acute rise of intraocular pressure (IOP) following Neodymium-Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Nd:Yag) laser posterior capsulotomy. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Ophthalmology, HMC, Peshawar, Pakistan, from July-December 2016. Sample size was 325 selected by consecutive sampling technique. Inclusion criteria were all patients having significant PCO after uneventful cataract surgery with intra ocular lens implant. Demographic variables were sex, age groups and age in years. Research variable was presence of acute rise of IOP following Yag laser capsulotomy. Pre-laser assessment included slit lamp examination and recording of IOP with Goldmann applanation tonometer by a single ophthalmologist. IOP was measured 3 hours after Nd: Yag laser capsulotomy. Rise in IOP was labeled when IOP was ≥5 mmhg from baseline. Mean ±SD was used to express quantitative variables like age. Categorical variables were analyzed as frequency and percentage. Goodness-of-fit was applied to compare the frequency of acute rise in IOP between sample and population. SPSS-20 was used for data entry and its analysis. Results: Out of 325 patients, 170(52.3%) were men and 155(47.7%) were women. The mean age of the sample was 44.92 ±23.843 years. A total of 107(32.9%) patients were 20-39 years old whereas 218(67.1%) were 40-70 years. IOP was raised in 61 (18.8%) patients while in 264(81.2%) patients it was not raised. The frequency of acute rise in IOP after Yag laser capsulotomy was significantly different in sample compared to population. Conclusion: Men were more than women, especially of old age. The frequency of acute rise in IOP after Yag laser capsulotomy was significantly different in sample compared to population.

10. Formulation Design and Development of a Unani Transdermal Patch for Antiemetic Therapy and Its Pharmaceutical Evaluation

Abstract

The Transdermal Drug Delivery System (TDDS) is one of the novel routes for systemic delivery of drugs through intact skin. A transdermal patch (TP) is a medicated patch that is placed on skin for delivery of medication through skin into the blood stream. The aim of present study was to formulate and evaluate a Unani transdermal patch that could be used for antiemetic therapy. The incorporation of Unani ingredients, namely, Khardal (Brassica nigra), Zanjabeel (Zingiber officinale), Podina (Mentha arvensis), and Sirka (Vinegar) were envisaged. The TP was prepared by solvent evaporation technique and was evaluated for organoleptic characteristics and other physicochemical properties, such as thickness, weight uniformity, folding endurance, moisture content, drug content, and tolerability and acceptability of patch. The in vitro permeation study of the patch was carried out through Franz diffusion cell using egg shell membrane as barrier membrane. Phosphate buffer pH 7.4 was used as dissolution medium and the temperature was maintained at 37 ± 1°C. The in vitro permeation study of the prepared TP indicated a time dependent increase in drug release throughout the study. The percentage of cumulative drug release was found to be 77.38% in 24 hours. The study shows a new approach to work in Unani pharmaceutics.

Abstract

Background: Hepatitis B virus infection and Hepatitis C virus infections are major health problems all over the world. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency and identify risk factors of HBV and HCV in patients undergoing cataract surgery. Material and Methods: This Descriptive study was conducted in the Department of Ophthalmology, District Head Quarter Teaching Hospital, Gomal Medical College, D.I. Khan, Pakistan, from January 2010 to June 2012. A sample of 330 patients was selected using purposive non-probability sampling technique. Screening for HBV and HCV was done with ICT method. All positive patients were confirmed by ELISA test. Descriptive statistics were applied as number & frequency. Results: The mean age of the sample was 63.7 with SD 5.83 (45-80) years. Out of 330 patients, 165 (50%) were males and 165 (50%) females. Thirteen patients (3.93%) were HBV positive and 32 (9.69%) were HCV positive. Out of 13 HBV positive cases, 8 (61.64%) were males and 5 (38.46%) were females. Out of 32 HCV positive patients, 19 (59.37%) were males and 13 (40.63%) were females. Conclusion: Hepatitis B virus infection and Hepatitis C virus infections are common infections in our setup. HCV is more prevalent than HBV. All patients booked for any type of surgery must be screened for HBV & HCV. Public awareness programs regarding risk factors for these diseases should be carried out through print and electronic media.

22. Some summation theorems and transformations for hypergeometric functions of Kampé de Fériet and Srivastava

Abstract

Owing to the remarkable success of the hypergeometric functions of one variable, the authors present a study of some families of hypergeometric functions of two or more variables. These functions include (for example) the Kampé de Fériet-type hypergeometric functions in two variables and Srivastava’s general hypergeometric function in three variables. The main aim of this paper is to provide several (presumably new) transformation and summation formulas for appropriately specified members of each of these families of hypergeometric functions in two and three variables. The methodology and techniques, which are used in this paper, are based upon the evaluation of some definite integrals involving logarithmic functions in terms of Riemann’s zeta function, Catalan’s constant, polylogarithm functions, and so on.

26. Role of Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) Gene Xpert in Diagnosis of PTB in Sputum Smear Negative Patients

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic efficacy of Xpert MTB/RIF assay in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis in sputum-smear negative patients. This observational case series study was conducted in a tertiary base institute of Bangladesh from July 2017 to June 2019. All patients with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis who were sputum-smear negative, irrespective of age and gender were included in this study. BAL fluid thus obtained and examined the smear for acid fast bacilli (AFB) and Xpert MTB/RIF assay. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy values were calculated for smear AFB and Xpert MTB/RIF assay. Xpert MTB/RIF was identified 33 (36.7%) of 90 patients on bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in the final analysis. AFB Fluid culture was positive in 28 (31.2%) cases. The sensitivity and specificity of Xpert MTB/RIF assay was 85.7%, and 85.5% respectively. The positive likelihood ratio was 5.90, and the negative likelihood ratio was 0.167. The accuracy was 85.56%. Xpert MTB/RIF on BAL fluid can be recommended as a fruitful diagnostic tool for mycobacterium pulmonary tuberculosis especially in sputum smear negative, and culture negative patients. Abstract

Aim: To study frequency and outcomes of rhino-orbital mucormycosis during COVID-19 infection in a tertiary care setup of KPK. Study Design: Retrospective cross-sectional study Settings and Duration: At Rehman Medical Institute, Peshawar from 1st September 2020 to 30th April 2021 (8 months). Materials and Methods: After taking informed consent and relevant approvals, all patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria underwent history taking to identify risk factors, clinical examination to find extent of infection and laboratory and radiological investigations to diagnose and find management plan. Data readings were save on Excel sheets and analyzed using SPSS v.25.0. Results: Among 59 patients, 37 (62.71%) were male and 22 (37.29%) female. Most of the patients (42.37%) fell between age category of 61-75 years. Overall 42 (71.18%) patients survived. Orbital involvement was present in 40 (67.80%) patients and 20 (33.89%) had to underwent exenteration. Among comorbidities, diabetes was most prevalent in 38 (64.40%) followed by hypertension in 11 (18.64%) while 7 (11.86%) patients had no co-morbid state. Conclusion: Rhino-orbital mucormycosis is very common superadded infection in patients suffering from COVID-19 and involves males more than the females. Most of the mucormycosis patients are either diabetics or on corticosteroids therapy for COVID-19. Orbital involvement in mucormycosis eventually happens in majority of patients and up to one third patients may need exenteration. However, strict diabetes control, judicious use of steroids and early diagnosis and treatment of mucormycosis may increase overall survival rate.

29. Certain cubic reduction formulas involving hypergeometric functions

Abstract

In this paper, we obtain a new general double infinite series identity (in terms of the sum of three infinite series) involving the bounded sequence of arbitrary complex numbers using Saalschutz summation theorem for terminating Clausen series. As application of our double series identity, we establish two cubic reduction formulas for Srivastava-Daoust double hypergeometric functions in terms of generalized hypergeometric function with suitable convergence conditions. By the theory of analytic continuation, our cubic reduction formula is also valid in -211/25≤R(z)≤3/4 when F(z)=0, using Mathematica software.

30. Explicit representations of some generalized and mixed relatives of the Bessel functions

Special functions can be defined in different ways such as Rodrigue's formulae, generating functions, summation formulae, integral representations et cetera, but it is usually shown to be expressible as a series, because this is frequently the most practical way to obtain numerical values for the functions. In this paper, the explicit representations of certain mixed special functions related to the Bessel functions are obtained. A Laurent type hypergeometric generating relation is derived using series rearrangement technique. Some special cases are obtained as generating function of the known mixed type relatives of the Bessel functions. Finally explicit forms of these mixed type special functions are obtained as applications.

Abstract

Among higher education students, perceived employability gained eminence in the last decades that attracted scholarly interests. Researchers theoretically and empirically studied the perceived employability though; inadequate preliminary review studies exist on this topic. Available researches mostly concentrated on a single approach. Thus, this study carried out a comprehensive review that comprised a systematic literature review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis that might boost understandings in the body of the literature. In the research process, the Scopus database from the 2008 to 2021 periods was used. The researchers set the search criteria that allowed the inclusion of 59 papers published in 45 peer-reviewed international journals. The paramount influential papers and prolific authors formulated the unit of this analysis. Furthermore, for the identification of thematic clusters and creating network maps, VOS viewer software was deployed. Citation analysis, co-authorship analysis, co-citation analysis, and co-occurrence of keywords analysis have generated interesting patterns which articulate the study results. The findings revealed enlightening insights on the content and characteristics of perceived employability, publication trends, highly cited papers, productive authors, contributing countries, repetitive themes, productive journals, and also unveiled gaps providing avenues for upcoming research works.

Abstract

Background The African Surgical OutcomeS-2 (ASOS-2) trial tested an enhanced postoperative surveillance intervention to reduce postoperative mortality in Africa. We undertook a concurrent evaluation to understand the process of intervention delivery. Methods Mixed-methods process evaluation, including field notes, interviews, and post-trial questionnaire responses. Qualitative analysis used the framework method with subsequent creation of comparative case studies, grouping hospitals by intervention fidelity. A post-trial questionnaire was developed using initial qualitative analyses. Categorical variables were summarised as count (%) and continuous variables as median (inter-quartile range [IQR]). Odds ratios (OR) were used to rank influences by impact on fidelity. Results The dataset included eight in-depth case studies, and 96 questionnaire responses (response rate 67%) plus intervention fidelity data for each trial site. Overall, 57% (n=55/96) of hospitals achieved intervention delivery using an inclusive definition of fidelity. Delivery of the ASOS-2 interventions and data collection presented a significant burden to the investigators, outstripping limited resources. The influences most associated with fidelity were: surgical staff enthusiasm for the trial (OR=3.0; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.3–7.0); nursing management support of the trial (OR=2.6; 95% CI, 1.1–6.5); performance of a dummy run (OR=2.6; 95% CI, 1.1–6.1); nursing colleagues seeing the value of the intervention(s) (OR=2.1; 95% CI, 0.9–5.7); and site investigators' belief in the effectiveness of the intervention (OR=3.2; 95% CI, 1.2–9.4). Conclusions ASOS-2 has proved that coordinated interventional research across Africa is possible, but delivering the ASOS-2 interventions was a major challenge for many investigators. Future improvement science efforts must include better planning for intervention delivery, additional support to investigators, and promotion of strong inter-professional teamwork. Abstract

Compare to ordinary Portland cement, Geopolymers are more environmentally friendly materials. They have some remarkable advantages such as resistance against fire and acid. Low-calcium fly ash-based geopolymers are heat cured in ovens and incubators where they are exposed to different temperatures and relative humidity (RH). The influence of the temperature on the alkali-activated materials (AAM) and geopolymers are well studied and understood. But there is a lack of enough information regarding the effect of RH during heat curing on the properties of the materials. This research aimed to study the influence of RH on the compressive strength of the geopolymer. Low-calcium fly ash-based geopolymer was cured at 45 °C. The effect of around 10% and 94% RH was studied on 7-, 28- and 56- day compressive strength of the materials. It was found that RH has a negative influence on the early age strength of the mortars. More studies are required to find the influence of RH on other properties of the geopolymer.

Abstract

This paper focuses on using Weibull analysis to predict various mortars' robustness based on the fracture process analysis through the flexural test which was recorded by the sensor of Acoustic Emission. Weibull distribution is used to clarify the reliability and robustness of cement by mortar characterization made from fly ash (F), ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS or G), and micro-silica (M) alkali activation compared with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) Mortars. This mortar production aims to characterize and compare alkali-activated materials (AAMs) properties with the cement type commonly used, OPC. AAMs are an alternative to Portland cement, that can decrease the amount of CO2 emission. The fracture process under flexural loading of AAMs was made from 4 combinations of F/G/M activated by the alkaline solution. Four variations are AAM-IV, AAM-V, AAM-VI, AAM-VII, and OPC as a control. Weibull analysis showed that AAMs were more robust than OPC mortar and possessed minor fractures compared to OPC mortar.

Abstract

Summary Background Risk of mortality following surgery in patients across Africa is twice as high as the global average. Most of these deaths occur on hospital wards after the surgery itself. We aimed to assess whether enhanced postoperative surveillance of adult surgical patients at high risk of postoperative morbidity or mortality in Africa could reduce 30-day in-hospital mortality. Methods We did a two-arm, open-label, cluster-randomised trial of hospitals (clusters) across Africa. Hospitals were eligible if they provided surgery with an overnight postoperative admission. Hospitals were randomly assigned through minimisation in recruitment blocks (1:1) to provide patients with either a package of enhanced postoperative surveillance interventions (admitting the patient to higher care ward, increasing the frequency of postoperative nursing observations, assigning the patient to a bed in view of the nursing station, allowing family members to stay in the ward, and placing a postoperative surveillance guide at the bedside) for those at high risk (ie, with African Surgical Outcomes Study Surgical Risk Calculator scores ≥10) and usual care for those at low risk (intervention group), or for all patients to receive usual postoperative care (control group). Health-care providers and participants were not masked, but data assessors were. The primary outcome was 30-day in-hospital mortality of patients at low and high risk, measured at the participant level. All analyses were done as allocated (by cluster) in all patients with available data. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT03853824 . Findings Between May 3, 2019, and July 27, 2020, 594 eligible hospitals indicated a desire to participate across 33 African countries; 332 (56%) were able to recruit participants and were included in analyses. We allocated 160 hospitals (13 275 patients) to provide enhanced postoperative surveillance and 172 hospitals (15 617 patients) to provide standard care. The mean age of participants was 37·1 years (SD 15·5) and 20 039 (69·4%) of 28 892 patients were women. 30-day in-hospital mortality occurred in 169 (1·3%) of 12 970 patients with mortality data in the intervention group and in 193 (1·3%) of 15 242 patients with mortality data in the control group (relative risk 0·96, 95% CI 0·69–1·33; p=0·79). 45 (0·2%) of 22 031 patients at low risk and 309 (5·6%) of 5500 patients at high risk died. No harms associated with either intervention were reported. Interpretation This intervention package did not decrease 30-day in-hospital mortality among surgical patients in Africa at high risk of postoperative morbidity or mortality. Further research is needed to develop interventions that prevent death from surgical complications in resource-limited hospitals across Africa. Abstract

The Transforming the Field Education Landscape (TFEL) project conducted a survey to gather information from field education coordinators and directors (FECDs) about their field education programs, staffing models, resources, and activities, and to invite their perspectives on field education in Canada. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to better understand the state of social work field education in Canada, from the perspectives of FECDs in accredited Canadian social work education programs. The study used an adapted version of a survey instrument developed by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) in the United States in 2015. Field education staff at 39 of the 43 accredited programs in Canada completed the survey. Results revealed differences in staffing and program administration models based on program size, and highlighted the workloads and challenges experienced by FECDs in facilitating quality practicum opportunities. The results show that FECDs are engaged in unique activities and responsibilities within social work education programs. The impacts of funding cutbacks, student readiness for placement, and resource shortages, including staff, time, institutional support, and placement disruptions, are among the challenges discussed in this article. Gröbner-Hofreiter-type integrals were evaluated by the use of applicable contour integrals and Cauchy’s residue theorem. In this paper, we obtain the solutions of Gröbner-Hofreiter-type integrals and other associated integrals with suitable convergence conditions by using hypergeometric approach. In this paper, we obtain analytical solutions of an unsolved integral 𝐑 S ⁢ ( m , n ) {\mathbf{R}_{S}(m,n)} of Srinivasa Ramanujan [S. Ramanujan, Some definite integrals connected with Gauss’s sums, Mess. Math. 44 1915, 75–86] with suitable convergence conditions in terms of Meijer’s G-function of one variable, by using Mellin–Barnes type contour integral representations of the sine function, Laplace transform method and some algebraic properties of Pochhammer’s symbol. Also, we have given some generalizations of Ramanujan’s integral 𝐑 S ⁢ ( m , n ) {\mathbf{R}_{S}(m,n)} in the form of integrals ℧ S * ⁢ ( υ , b , c , λ , y ) {\mho_{S}^{*}(\upsilon,b,c,\lambda,y)} , Ξ S ⁢ ( υ , b , c , λ , y ) {\Xi_{S}(\upsilon,b,c,\lambda,y)} , ∇ S ⁡ ( υ , b , c , λ , y ) {\nabla_{S}(\upsilon,b,c,\lambda,y)} and ℧ S ⁢ ( υ , b , λ , y ) {\mho_{S}(\upsilon,b,\lambda,y)} with suitable convergence conditions and solved them in terms of Meijer’s G-functions. Moreover, as applications of Ramanujan’s integral 𝐑 S ⁢ ( m , n ) {\mathbf{R}_{S}(m,n)} , the three new infinite summation formulas associated with Meijer’s G-function are obtained.

Abstract

Waste management and recycling of wastages play an important role in having a sustainable city or eco-city. Rapid increasing population in some cities of the world and especially in developing countries cause a different kind of pollution such as air, water, noise, visual, etc. Wastages are directly associated with city contamination. Useful policies for recycling waste can reduce pollution and boost the economy of a country. This study investigates the influence of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), Silica fume (SF), and paper sludge ash (PSA) on the workability, compressive strength, and acoustic emission behavior of concrete. 5 and 10% of cement were replaced by PSA and silica fume and 10 and 20% of coarse aggregate was replaced by the recycled aggregate. PSA and SF improved the Strength, and acoustic emission behaviors of concrete, moreover, the recycled aggregate also improved the properties of concrete.
