Knowledge management is a valuable antecedent in enhancing the competitive advantage and sustainability of an organization. Various quality management standards acknowledge the necessities and importance of knowledge management within quality management since both areas complement each other. Therefore, this state drives the need to conduct more knowledge management research related to quality management. However, research on knowledge management within quality management systems specifically in higher education institutions is still underexplored. This chapter attempts to explore the establishment of a knowledge management model in supporting the implementation of quality management standards. Several knowledge management enabler factors are suggested, namely strategic focus and leadership, culture, organization, structure, technology, processes, top management, measurement, knowledge, and people. An empirical study is suggested in the future to further support the conceptual knowledge management model established in this chapter.

[EN] While Islamic economy is growing in all sectors, Halal compliance is carried out by more countries worldwide. The purpose of this paper is toestablish a methodology based on MCDM methods in order to create an accurate ranking of countries according to the basis of the Halal standards, which can be used by public and private institutions. Although Islamic economy is evaluated globally by different institutions every year, those reports are based on indicators which are equally weighted. In this paper, weights of the six Islamic economy criteria are determined by the EWM (Entropy Weight Method) and theTechnique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) has been used to create a ranking of countries in terms of the Halal principles.

Requirements for Halal products and services are known as defining and complying with the needs for Muslims as one of their obligations to their religion. Within the South East Asia (SEA) region, the emergence, development and growth of halal industry are agile and active in Muslim countries such as Malaysia. Malaysia has been an active country in halal industry that is not only limited to the production of halal products to be consumed but also in providing and offering other related halal activities such as consultation, regulatory advices and supporting the halal industry through marketing, transportation and logistics. Of late, the costs of international travelling especially for Malaysians have become more affordable and reasonable, thus allowing more people to travel to other countries. One of the SEA countries that is currently contributed to the higher number of Malaysians travelling to is Vietnam. This is adding up with the fact that the landscape of tourism activities and offering in Vietnam have changed significantly that are catering for the needs of Muslim tourism such as the emergence of halal food retailer, clothing and textile manufacturer. In view of the integrity requirements for halal industry, there is a need for establishment of halal logistics within the industry in Vietnam to support the new potential of halal industry. In fact, there is a great benefit in linking between the halal economic activities and logistics industry from the context of knowledge management. This chapter provides beautiful view of halal economic activities and its growth in Vietnam to the readers, and explains how the next strategy in intensifying halal logistic industry from the context of knowledge management in the country becomes essential.

Purpose This study aims to discuss the challenges in implementing halal warehouse in the air cargo context along with the standard handling process for the storage of halal product for import and export purposes. This is vital to ensure that halal products do not get contaminated and should comply to halal logistics standard throughout the supply chain process. Design/methodology/approach This exploratory study adopts single case study to better understand the definition of halal warehouse, the challenges in implementing halal warehouse and also the standard handling process for the storage at the warehouse for import and export purposes. A well-guided case study protocol is followed. Findings Five categories have found to be the main challenges in implementing halal warehouse. They are coded as halal product trade, halal asset and facility, halal standard of procedure, human factor and perspectives between logistics provider and halal agencies. With regard to standard handling process for import and export purposes in airgo context with compliance to Shariah at the halal warehouse, there are seven main steps involved for import and nine steps involved for export. Research limitations/implications As this paper is among the pioneer study that looks into halal warehouse implementation, it has some limitations. Further empirical study in a bigger context may be performed quantitatively, and multiple case study approach may also be adopted to get deeper insight in understanding halal warehouse implementation domain of study. Practical implications This study contributes to the understanding on the gap in the field with adhering or complying with the practice. It will provide input to the authority in understanding the current limitation and suggestion by the practicing companies. Social implications Halal requirement in non-Muslim countries are not very well implemented and understood, whereby the understanding of the concept of Halalal Toyyiban throughout the supply chain process is critical. The main aim of halal logistics is to avoid cross contamination between halal and non-halal product during the transport, at the storage in warehouse and also in handling. This study contributes to the understanding of halal warehouse implementation. Originality/value There is a critical dearth of academic study that focuses on halal logistics specifically in transport and warehouse. This empirical case study provides basic understanding of implementing halal warehouse and presents the challenges and also required guidelines in handling halal product at the warehouse for both import and export purposes.

Quality management system (QMS) and knowledge management system (KMS) are two management discipline that are widely used in organizations. The implementation and adoption of QMS is a continuous effort that helps organizations to improve their quality and performance. If adoption of QMS to improve organization’s quality, the purpose of KMS implementation in organization on the other hand as a platform and tools to support the management of knowledge activities. In view of the massive activities of knowledge creation, knowledge sharing and repository of knowledge within higher education institution (HEI), the use of KMS will provide greater benefits to stakeholders within HEIs. Past studies have shown that both management disciplines (QMS and KMS) have positive impact towards organizations in term of costs reduction, work performance and business continuity. HEI are also facing with challenges and obstacles because of the growing demand like any other organization. Some of the major challenges faced by HEI such as rising costs of tuition fees, growing number of competition among colleges and universities and introduction of new learning methods and technologies. The purpose of this study is to conceptually explore and identify the needs and potential integration between QMS and KMS within HEI. Based on the discussion and findings, this research provides future direction for more research on two-management disciplines.

Formulation of knowledge management system (KMS) is significance to support knowledge management activities within organizations; moreover, information technology has become the driving factors for business strategies and directions. In the past studies, the focus of KMS establishment are diverse; ranging from its successful adoption, perceived usefulness of the users or on its supporting roles in organization strategy to improve their performance and smooth operations. Despite its benefits to the organization, however, gap has been identified on the lack of existence and definition of KMS framework at the organizational level studied by other researchers. Thus, the objective of this study is to formulate the KMS framework at the organizational level known as OKMS (organization-based knowledge management system). This study is performed by methodologically conducting a review and analysis of the past literature and related areas of concern on establishment of KMS. Outcome of this study will not only help to motivate for other future empirical and theoretical research for KMS at the organization level, but, it also provide a departing point for other KMS researches establishment for organizations.

Knowledge enhancement is essential to support continuous sustainability of organization in a competitive environment. It is not an exception to an aviation industry. In facing up with future challenges of industrial revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0), studies have shown that one of the issues addressed in ensuring it success is the importance of knowledge among employees. Various activities can be done to enhance knowledge such as by enrolling to academic (undergraduate or postgraduate) programs, attending short courses/training or sitting for professional certification. Furthermore, obtaining postgraduate degrees offers wide exposure to academic and industry environment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to gauge the understanding on practitioners’ key reasons to further their education at the postgraduate level. Four major constructs established for this study to analyse the aviation practitioners’ intention to further study that are personal needs for continuing education, organization needs, source of funding and teaching and learning facilities. Document review were conducted at the beginning of the study to explore fundamental issues of knowledge enhancement needs among practitioners, meanwhile survey performed were analysed by using Fuzzy Delphi method (FDM). Findings shows that six elements (items) for the whole survey fulfil the criteria of threshold value (d construct) less than 0.2 and achieved the percentage of expert group consensus more than 75%. This research provides objective and constructive input to university on the major factors influencing aviation practitioner’s decision to further their study at the postgraduate level. The finding becomes avenues for university to draft a better postgraduate program to fulfil the requirement of industry and academic.

Most aviation related academic programs in Malaysia were designed centred around the aerospace engineering and aircraft engineering technologies. However, the emergence of Industry 4.0 demands aviation talents especially the non-management aviation practitioners such as aircraft engineers and other technical personnel to equip themselves with certain management-related skills. Hence, there is a pressing need for an advanced industry-driven and practitioners-based academic program in aviation management suits for various categories of aviation practitioners. The aims of this study are to explore the employability prospective of aviation managers (first stage); to examine the Industry 4.0-related management skills needed by aviation companies (second stage); and to analyse the personal development intention of individual practitioners (third stage). This study employed multistage-multilevel analysis on a single-case market study in a Malaysian aviation technical training university. Findings from this study are segregated into three levels. At the industry level, it is concluded that there is a brighter employability prospect of aviation managers at least until 2030. At the organizational level, there is an urgent need for the aviation professionals to upgrade themselves with managerial skills relevant to the Industry 4.0 such as data driven scenario planning, big data analysis, and collaborative decision making. At the individual practitioner’s level, finding indicates that there is an increasing awareness among the individual aviation professional in particular the technical and engineering professional to engage in personal development in aviation management at postgraduate level. The key contribution of this case study is that, through multistages and multilevels analysis, it not only expands the robustness of the market study on new postgraduate program development but also able to incorporate the perspectives of different aviation stakeholders group i.e. the aviation industry, aviation organizations, and individual aviation talents. This multistage-multilevel model can facilitate university’s policy makers to design future industry-based and practitioners-driven development program meant for industry practitioners.
