Open-field-grown tomatoes in Saudi Arabia are stressed by poor soil fertility because of the low organic matter content, low nutrient availability, and high pH. Thus, high chemical fertilizer inputs are crucial for commercial production; however, they cause economic loss as well as negatively affect environmental sustainability. The use of efficient organic fertilizers would be useful for developing more cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable agriculture. The current study evaluated the impact of Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens L.) frass (BSFF) fertilizer applications as organic fertilizer on postharvest fruit quality and shelf life of open-field-grown F1 hybrid ‘Sinag Tala’ tomatoes compared with those grown under control treatment (received recommended doses of chemical fertilizers for tomato production under open field conditions). The experiment was conducted using a randomized complete block design with four replicates. The results showed that the application of BSFF fertilizer, especially at the higher rate (5 ton/ha; BSFF3), improved the overall quality of tomato fruit. The BSFF fertilizer treatments reduced weight loss, maintained higher firmness, antioxidants [vitamin C, total phenol content (TPC) and total flavinoid (TFC)], total soluble solids (TSS), and titratable acidity (TA) contents, and lowered the TSS/TA ratio of fruits during shelf life compared with those of the control. The decay incidence was only detected after 9 days of shelf life and was significantly lower in all the BSFF fertilizer treatments (range, 8.40%-12.05%) than in the control (15.9%). In addition, BSFF fertilizer treatments reduced both disease incidence and severity of gray mold following pathogen inoculation during shelf life compared with those of the control. These results might be attributable to the higher antioxidants content (vitamin C, TPC, and TFC) and higher polyphenol oxidase activity in BSFF-fertilized tomatoes. In conclusion, BSFF fertilizer could be used as a potential eco-friendly alternative to chemical fertilizers to improve tomato fruit quality during shelf life.

Abstract Background The plant roots excrete a large number of organic compounds into the soil. The rhizosphere, a thin soil zone around the roots, is a hotspot for microbial activity, making it a crucial component of the soil ecosystem. Secondary metabolites produced by rhizospheric Sphingomonas sanguinis DM have sparked significant curiosity in investigating their possible biological impacts. Methods A bacterial strain has been isolated from the rhizosphere of Datura metel. The bacterium’s identification, fermentation, and working up have been outlined. The ethyl acetate fraction of the propagated culture media of Sphingomonas sanguinis DM was fractioned and purified using various chromatographic techniques. The characterization of the isolated compounds was accomplished through the utilization of various spectroscopic techniques, such as UV, MS, 1D, and 2D-NMR. Furthermore, the evaluation of their antimicrobial activity was conducted using the agar well diffusion method, while cytotoxicity was assessed using the MTT test. Results The extract from Sphingomonas sanguinis DM provided two distinct compounds: n-dibutyl phthalic acid (1) and Bis (2-methyl heptyl) phthalate (2) within its ethyl acetate fraction. Furthermore, the 16S rRNA gene sequence of Sphingomonas sanguinis DM has been registered under the NCBI GenBank database with the accession number PP422198. The bacterial extract exhibited its effect against gram-positive bacteria, inhibiting Streptococcus mutans (12.6 ± 0.6 mm) and Staphylococcus aureus (10.6 ± 0.6 mm) compared to standard antibiotics. Conversely, compound 1 showed a considerable effect against phytopathogenic fungi such as Alternaria alternate (56.3 ± 10.6 mm) and Fusarium oxysporum (21.3 ± 1.5 mm) with a MIC value of 17.5 µg/mL. However, it was slightly active against Klebsiella pneumonia (11.0 ± 1.0 mm). Furthermore, compound 2 was the most active metabolite, having a significant antimicrobial efficacy against Rhizoctonia solani (63.6 ± 1.1 mm), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (16.7 ± 0.6 mm), and Alternaria alternate (20.3 ± 0.6 mm) with MIC value at 15 µg/mL. In addition, compound 2 exhibited the most potency against hepatocellular (HepG-2) and skin (A-431) carcinoma cell lines with IC50 values of 107.16 µg/mL and 111.36 µg/mL, respectively. Conclusion Sphingomonas sanguinis DM, a rhizosphere bacterium of Datura metel, was studied for its phytochemical and biological characteristics, resulting in the identification of two compounds with moderate antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities.

An aqueous extract of Punica granatum peel was used as a biocatalyst for magnesium oxide nanoparticle (MgO-NP) synthesis, which was characterized via UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, EDX, FT-IR, XRD, DLS, and zeta potential. Data showed the efficacy of the plant aqueous extract in forming spherical, crystalline-nature, well-arranged MgO-NPs with sizes in the range of 10–45 nm with average sizes of 24.82 ± 8.85 nm. Moreover, EDX analysis revealed that the highest weight and atomic percentages were recorded for Mg and O ions. The green synthesized MgO-NPs showed antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans in a concentration-dependent manner with clear zones in the range of 8.7 ± 0.6 to 19.7 ± 0.5 mm with various concentrations. Also, the MIC value was varied to be 25 µg mL−1 for Gram-negative bacteria, B. subtilis, and C. albicans and 50 µg mL−1 for S. aureus. Moreover, MgO-NPs showed high activity against the 3rd-instar larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus. The mortality percentages were concentration- and time-dependent. Data analysis showed that the highest mortality was 88.3 ± 3.2%, attained at a concentration of 100 µg mL−1 after 72 h. Also, all originated pupae were malformed and did not hatch to adults, with mortality percentages of 100% at all concentrations. Overall, the P. granatum-mediated MgO-NPs showed promising activity in inhibiting the growth of pathogenic microbes and the hatching of C. quinquefasciatus larvae to adults.

Background: Periodontitis is a long-term, multifactorial inflammatory condition that is triggered by bacterial germs and interacts with the host's immune system. The unique attachment of fibrous tissue between the cementum and bone presents a challenge for periodontal regeneration. Aim: To achieve the lowest optimum dose of BMP-7 that helps in periodontal regeneration, involving newly formed cementum, PDL and bone Materials and methods: Five healthy mongrel dogs were used for the study. A critical class III furcation defect was created using rotating burs. The bone defects (ten defects for each group) were allocated to one of the subsequent groups: (Group 1) control with the surgical defect only. (Group 2) Surgical defect implanted with hydrogel only (CS/β-GP). (Group 3) Surgical defect implanted with CS/BMP-7 (50 ng/ml). (Group 4) Surgical defect implanted with CS/BMP-7 (100 ng/ml). Results: Histomorphometric and H&E analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in bone, PDL, and cementum regeneration defects filled with CS/BMP-7 (100 ng/ml) compared with other groups. Conclusion: The standard effective dose for BMP-7 use in periodontal regeneration is 100 ng/ml.

Abstract The promising features of most bacterial celluloses (BC) promote the continuous mining for a cost-effective production approach toward wide and sustainable applications. Herein, cantaloupe peels (CP) were successfully implemented for sustainable BC production. Results indicated that the enzymatically hydrolyzed CP supported the maximum BC production of approximately 3.49 g/L when used as a sole fermentation media. The produced BC was fabricated with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (Ch), and loaded with green synthesized copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) to improve its biological activity. The novel composite showed an antimicrobial activity against several human pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas fluorescens. Furthermore, the new composite revealed a significant in vitro anticancer activity against colon (Caco-2), hepatocellular (HepG-2), and breast (MDA) cancer cells, with low IC50 of 0.48, 0.27, and 0.33 mg/mL for the three cell lines, respectively. On the other hand, the new composite was remarkably safe for human skin fibroblast (HSF) with IC50 of 1.08 mg/mL. Interestingly, the composite membranes exhibited lethal effects against all stages of larval instar and pupal stage compared with the control. In this study, we first report the diverse potential applications of BC/PVA/Ch/CuO-NPs composites based on green synthesized CuO-NPs and sustainably produced BC membrane.

In recent years, the one-dimensional bin packing problem (1D-BPP) has become one of the most famous combinatorial optimization problems. The 1D-BPP is a robust NP-hard problem that can be solved through optimization algorithms. This paper proposes an adaptive procedure using a recently optimized swarm algorithm and fitness-dependent optimizer (FDO), named the AFDO, to solve the BPP. The proposed algorithm is based on the generation of a feasible initial population through a modified well-known first fit (FF) heuristic approach. To obtain a final optimized solution, the most critical parameters of the algorithm are adapted for the problem. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to apply the FDO algorithm in a discrete optimization problem, especially for solving the BPP. The adaptive algorithm was tested on 30 instances obtained from benchmark datasets. The performance and evaluation results of this algorithm were compared with those of other popular algorithms, such as the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, crow search algorithm (CSA), and Jaya algorithm. The AFDO algorithm obtained the smallest fitness values and outperformed the PSO, CS, and Jaya algorithms by 16%, 17%, and 11%, respectively. Moreover, the AFDO shows superiority in terms of execution time with improvements over the execution times of the PSO, CS, and Jaya algorithms by up to 46%, 54%, and 43%, respectively. The experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive algorithm for solving the 1D-BPP.

Herein, the metabolites secreted by brown algae, Cystoseira crinita, were used as biocatalyst for green synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs). The fabricated MgO-NPs were characterized using UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy linked with energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Data showed successful formation of crystallographic and spherical MgO-NPs with sizes of 3–18 nm at a maximum surface plasmon resonance of 320 nm. Moreover, EDX analysis confirms the presence of Mg and O in the sample with weight percentages of 54.1% and 20.6%, respectively. Phyco-fabricated MgO-NPs showed promising activities against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and Candida albicans with MIC values ranging between 12.5 and 50 μg mL−1. The IC50 value of MgO-NPs against cancer cell lines (Caco-2) was 113.4 μg mL−1, whereas it was 141.2 μg mL−1 for normal cell lines (Vero cell). Interestingly, the green synthesized MgO-NPs exhibited significant larvicidal and pupicidal activity against Musca domestica. At 10 μg mL−1 MgO-NPs, the highest mortality percentages were 99.0%, 95.0%, 92.2%, and 81.0% for I, II, III instars’ larvae, and pupa of M. domestica, respectively, with LC50 values (3.08, 3.49, and 4.46 μg mL−1), and LC90 values (7.46, 8.89, and 10.43 μg mL−1), respectively. Also, MgO-NPs showed repellence activity for adults of M. domestica at 10 μg mL−1 with 63.0%, 77.9%, 84.9%, and 96.8% after 12, 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively.

Herein, silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) were synthesized using an environmentally friendly approach by harnessing the metabolites of Aspergillus niger F2. The successful formation of Ag-NPs was checked by a color change to yellowish-brown, followed by UV-Vis spectroscopy, Fourier transforms infrared (FT-IR), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Data showed the successful formation of crystalline Ag-NPs with a spherical shape at the maximum surface plasmon resonance of 420 nm with a size range of 3–13 nm. The Ag-NPs showed high toxicity against I, II, III, and IV instar larvae and pupae of Aedes aegypti with LC50 and LC90 values of 12.4–22.9 ppm and 22.4–41.4 ppm, respectively under laboratory conditions. The field assay exhibited the highest reduction in larval density due to treatment with Ag-NPs (10× LC50) with values of 59.6%, 74.7%, and 100% after 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively. The exposure of A. aegypti adults to the vapor of burning Ag-NPs-based coils caused a reduction of unfed individuals with a percentage of 81.6 ± 0.5% compared with the positive control, pyrethrin-based coils (86.1 ± 1.1%). The ovicidal activity of biosynthesized Ag-NPs caused the hatching of the eggs with percentages of 50.1 ± 0.9, 33.5 ± 1.1, 22.9 ± 1.1, and 13.7 ± 1.2% for concentrations of 5, 10, 15, and 20 ppm, whereas Ag-NPs at a concentration of 25 and 30 ppm caused complete egg mortality (100%). The obtained data confirmed the applicability of biosynthesized Ag-NPs to the biocontrol of A. aegypti at low concentrations.

This study addresses the impacts of metabolites from different microbial taxa on the fabrication and multifunctional biological properties of spherical silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs). Three microbial taxa, a bacterial (Bacillus cereus A1-5), actinomycetes (Streptomyces noursei H1-1), and fungal (Rhizopus stolonifer A6-2) strains were used for Ag-NPs biosynthesis, whereas Streptomyces noursei is demonstrated for the first time. These isolates were identified using either 16S rRNA or ITS gene sequencing. Characterization of Ag-NPs was done using color change analysis, Uv-Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, TEM, SEM-EDX, DLS, and Zeta potential analysis. All biosynthesized NPs exhibited spherical shape with different sizes ranged from 6‒50 nm, 6–30 nm and 6–40 nm for NPs obtained by A1-5, H1-1 and A6-2, respectively. The crystalline center cubic face of Ag-NPs was confirmed using XRD at 2θ values 38.08o, 44.27o, 64.41o and 77.36o. FT-IR analysis revealed varied intense absorption peaks for biomolecules required for NPs synthesize by each microbial strain. The stability of spherical Ag-NPs was confirmed due to highly DLS negative surface charge of ‒17.5mV, ‒18.9mV, and ‒15.6mV for NPs synthesized by strains A1-5, H1-1, and A6-2, respectively. Ag-NPs exhibited a broadspectrum of antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria with varied effectiveness. They also exhibited a cytotoxic effect against cancer cell line (caco-2) in a dose-dependent pattern with IC50 of 8.9 ± 0.5, 5.6 ± 3.0, 11.2 ± 0.5 μg/ml for NPs synthesized by strains A1-5, H1-1, and A6-2, respectively. Moreover, these spherical Ag-NPs showed larvicidal activity against the 3rd instar larvae of the dengue vector Aedes aegypti.

The biosynthesis of nanoparticles by microorganisms especially endophytic species isolated from medicinal plant are the prime concern of researchers. In the present study, a novel, non-toxic, eco-friendly copper nanoparticles was biosynthesized by endophytic actinomycetes isolate Ca-1 and optimization processes have been endeavored. The endophytic actinomycete Streptomyces capillispiralis Ca-1, was isolated from healthy medicinal plant (Convolvulus arvensis) (L.) collected from Bahariya Oasis - Giza Governorate – Egypt. The isolate was identified by morphological, cultural and molecular identification techniques. The biosynthesis of CuNPs is confirmed by gradual change of biomass filtrate color from light blue into greenish brown color and characterized by an observation of a characteristic absorption peak by UV-Vis spectroscopy at 600 nm. Also, a spherical-monodispersed shaped CuNPs with particle size of 3.6–59 nm were observed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). In addition, X-ray diffraction (XRD) exhibited pattern peaks corresponding to 110, 111, 200, 220, 311 and 222 planes, respectively that assigned to face centered cubic forms of metallic copper (JCPDS 04–0836). While FTIR results confirmed the occurrence of bioactive functional groups that are responsible for formation of CuNPs. Moreover, the biosynthesized CuNPs showed various biomedical applications against infectious microorganisms, biocontrol of phytopathogenic fungi and health nasty insects that represent the hopeful uses of copper nanoparticles to be applied as a unique approach to manage these healths threatening problems. The metabolites of the fungal strain Rhizopus oryaze were used as a biocatalyst for the green-synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs). The production methodology was optimized to attain the maximum productivity as follows: 4 mM of precursor, at pH 8, incubation temperature of 35 °C, and reaction time of 36 h between metabolites and precursor. The as-formed MgO-NPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, SEM-EDX, XRD, DLS, FT-IR, and XPS analyses. These analytical techniques proved to gain crystalline, homogenous, and well-dispersed spherical MgO-NPs with an average size of 20.38 ± 9.9 nm. The potentiality of MgO-NPs was dose- and time-dependent. The biogenic MgO-NPs was found to be a promising antimicrobial agent against the pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans with inhibition zones of 10.6 ± 0.4, 11.5 ± 0.5, 13.7 ± 0.5, 14.3 ± 0.7, and 14.7 ± 0.6 mm, respectively, at 200 μg mL–1. Moreover, MgO-NPs manifested larvicidal and adult repellence activity against Culex pipiens at very low concentrations. The highest decolorization percentages of tanning effluents were 95.6 ± 1.6% at 100 µg/ 100 mL after 180 min. At this condition, the physicochemical parameters of tannery effluents, including TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, and conductivity were reduced with percentages of 97.9%, 98.2%, 87.8%, 95.9%, and 97.3%, respectively. Moreover, the chromium ion was adsorbed with percentages of 98.2% at optimum experimental conditions.

The present study aims at describing and analysing the floristic composition and vegetation types, as well as determining the effect of recent land uses on the vegetation structure. It aims also at identifying the alien plants species and elucidating the impact of these species on the plant diversity and community structure of the study area. One hundred and ninety stands were selected monthly for this study, 145 species were recorded (69 perennials and 76 annuals) related to 83 genera, 40 families in 9 identified habitats in El-Omayed Biosphere Reserve (coastal sand dunes, salt marshes, saline depression, non-saline depression, inland ridges, inland plateau, irrigation canals, road sides and cultivated lands). Therophytes were the most represented life form. Three habitat groups resulted after the application of TWINSPAN and DCA as classification and ordination techniques: 2 represented the natural habitats and one represented the urban and cultivated habitats. Group I represented coastal dunes and salt marshes GII: saline depressions, non-saline depressions, inland plateau and inland ridges and GIII: irrigation canals, road sides and cultivated lands. Coastal dunes had the highest species richness (α-diversity), followed by cultivated lands, while inland plateau had the lowest; but saline depressions had the highest species turnover (β-diversity). Non-saline depressions had the highest relative evenness, while saline depressions had the highest relative concentration of dominance. Coastal dunes had highest values of calcium carbonates and calcium ions, and salt marshes had the highest salinity, pH, potassium and sodium contents, but cultivated lands had the highest values of silt, clay and organic matter. The diagram resulting from CCA showed an influence of most soil variables, except nitrogen, calcium and potassium. Twenty two species were recorded for the first time in the study area. The recent land use (overgrazing, wood cutting and collecting, construction of summer resorts and irrigation canals and agricultures) led to the emergence of new invasive species, which may severely affect the plant diversity and community structure of this hot spot of biodiversity in Egypt.

Air pollution is reported as one of the most severe environmental problems in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Remotely sensed data from newly available TROPOMI - TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument on board Sentinel-5 Precursor, shows an annual mean of high-resolution maps of selected air quality indicators (NO2, CO, O3, and UVAI) of the MENA countries for the first time. The correlation analysis among the aforementioned indicators show the coherency of the air pollutants in urban areas. Multi-year data from the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) stations from nine MENA countries are utilized here to study the aerosol optical depth (AOD) and Ångström exponent (AE) with other available observations. Additionally, a total of 65 different machine learning models of four categories, namely: linear regression, ensemble, decision tree, and deep neural network (DNN), were built from multiple data sources (MODIS, MISR, OMI, and MERRA-2) to predict the best usable AOD product as compared to AERONET data. DNN validates well against AERONET data and proves to be the best model to generate optimized aerosol products when the ground observations are insufficient. This approach can improve the knowledge of air pollutant variability and intensity in the MENA region for decision makers to operate proper mitigation strategies.

This study investigates the effects of multi-frequency ultrasound treatment on the quality of frozen dough. We analyzed frozen wheat dough comprehensively for texture, viscosity, rheology, and structural quality characteristics under multi-frequency ultrasound (20 kHz, 20/40 kHz, and 20/40/60 kHz) with different treatment times (10, 20, and 30 mins). The dough treated with multi-frequency ultrasound increased elasticity and reduced hardness. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that 20/40/60 kHz for 30 min minimized freezing-induced morphological damage, decreased the tan δ in rheological analysis, and led to higher pasting and gelatinization enthalpy in starch granules, resulting in a more cohesive structure and lower free water content. Frozen dough hardness decreased by 52.1 %, which is associated with the control frozen dough with ultrasound frequency and duration changes. The spectral peaks in wheat flour frozen dough treated with single, dual, and tri-frequency ultrasound had the same forms and positions as the control samples but were arranged in an orderly manner. This study demonstrates the potential of multi-frequency ultrasound to enhance the quality of wheat frozen dough by mitigating freezing-induced deteriorations, offering a promising approach to improving the processing of frozen dough.

Rural electrification is exhaustive, costly, and lacks paybacks while renewable energy interventions are policy-influenced usually taking a top-down approach. The livelihood activities are energy intensive, while specific in nature and requirement. There exists an inherent nexus among rural livelihoods between energy-water-food, which is often not explored., while polygeneration and cogeneration methods can benefit this nexus. Parabolic trough collectors (PTC), heliostats, and Linear Fresnel Reflectors (LFR) are solar concentrators used for high-temperature steam generation. The LFR has the advantage of easy installation, reduced structures, good optical efficiency, flexible designs, and direct steam generation at a temperature range of 80 C - to 400 C, which can be a techno-commercial competitor for evacuated tube collectors (ETC) and PTC. An extensive review of the energy requirement in various rural livelihoods and the potential of solar concentrators with a focus on the PTC and LFR, with their limitation and the advantages are done. While the LFR can match the optical efficiency of the PTC, it is found that the two-phase flow and the entropy generation are the limitations, while easy installations, custom designs, and reduced structures are the advantages over the PTC. The review and comparison have found that there is a difference between the thermal energy produced per mirror area and the land area with respect to PTC and the LFR. Concerning application in the diary industry, it is found that with the modifications in LFR, the thermal energy produced per square meter of land by LFR can be 300 MWh/m2, while the PTC produces 225 MWh / m2 in comparison with 180 MWh /m2. This shows that LFR modifications including reduced receiver height, inclined mirror, and double reflectors can make it the ideal solar collector for rural livelihood applications for low-medium heat requirements.

Background: Endophytic fungi are associated within plant tissues without any harmful effects. They produce a diversity of metabolites and are well known as rich source of bioactive substances. This study aimed to identify fungal isolates from different medicinal plants, evaluate their antioxidant potency and detect components responsible for antioxidant activity. Results: In the present investigation, 4 endophytic fungal isolates were obtained from different medicinal plants Rumex nervosus, Pulicaria crispa and Withania somnifera. Those isolates were characterized as Penicilluim commune, Penicilluim glaucoroseum, Aspergillus flavipes and Fusarium chlamydosporum according to morphological and phylogenetic bases. These strains were propagated on humified rice and their crude ethyl acetate extracts were assayed for their total phenols, flavonoids and antioxidant potency against DPPH free radicals. The results showed that the elevated constituent of phenolics was found in P. commune (148.24 mg/g), followed by F. chlamydosporum (124.25 mg/g), while the highest total flavonoids were determined in A. flavipes, followed by F. chlamydosporum, P. glaucoroseum, P. commune, respectively. Moreover, the maximum hydroxyl radical-scavenging assay was IC50 = 2.13 mg/mL exhibited by P. commune, followed by F. chlamydosporum (2.68 mg/mL). Weak antimicrobial and cytotoxic effects were reported by the studied strains against pathogenic isolates and (HepG2) hepatocellular carcinoma cell line. The fungal EtOAc extracts were characterized quantitatively by the incidence of different phenols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, as detected by HPLC. Background: Benign supratentorial cysts are uncommon lesions. They have multiple forms including arachnoid cysts, neurenteric cysts, and neuroglial cysts. Fenestration and/or excision of the cyst with minimally invasive treatment using a microscope or an endoscope is the standard. The ideal surgical strategy differs substantially among centers due to a lack of prospective data. Aim of the study: The purpose of this study was to present and evaluate the outcome of our institute's strategy for surgical treatment of these cysts that may contribute to the discussion of the debate. Patients and methods: We retrospectively analyzed our data records for patients with symptomatic supratentorial cysts who underwent surgical treatment at the Department of Neurosurgery, Sohag University Hospitals between June 2020 and June 2023. Demographic data, clinical data, preoperative radiology, surgical-related morbidity and mortality, outcome, and long-term follow up either clinical or radiological were recorded. Results: We presented a total of fifteen cases included, 8 (53.3%) were females, and their ages ranged from 2 months to 60 years. Of the included cases, 7 were arachnoid cysts, one was neurenteric cysts, 3 were hemorrhagic cysts and 4 were glioependymal or neuroglial cysts. 14 cases underwent microsurgical excision with or without fenestration to the ventricular system or subarachnoid space, one case underwent VP shunt insertion for the intraventricular cyst, all came with favorable outcomes with no recurrence during the follow up. Conclusion: Supratentorial cysts are uncommon lesions, they have multiple forms including arachnoid cysts, neurenteric cysts and neuroglial cysts. Microsurgical excision of a symptomatic cyst is considered the golden treatment and carries a high success rate with a low risk of morbidity and mortality and low rate of recurrence. Among the crop production factors, preceding crop and tillage management affect the sustainable use of soil resources and ultimately crop growth and productivity. This study aimed at investigating the impact of preceding winter crops (grass or legume) and different tillage systems on forage yield, quality and nutritive values of three summer grass (Sudan grass, pearl millet and teosinte) and two legume forage crops (cowpea and guar) under arid conditions. The results exhibited that growing forage crops after legumes (as berseem clover) produced the highest fresh and dry forage yields and quality attributes compared with grasses (as wheat) with the exception of crude fiber content, which was decreased. Moreover, tillage practices showed positive impact on forage yields and quality attributes. The maximum forage yields and quality parameters were recorded under conventional tillage (CT) practice compared with reduced tillage (RT) and no-tillage (NT) systems. Among the evaluated crops, the highest yields of fresh forage, dry forage, crude fiber, crude protein and total digestible nutrient were exhibited by grass forage crops (Sudan grass, pearl millet and teosinte), whereas the highest crude protein content and the digestible energy values were produced by legume forage crops (cowpea and guar). The maximum fresh forage, dry forage, crude fiber, crude protein, total digestible nutrient and digestible crude protein yields were produced by pearl millet followed by Sudan grass under CT and RT after berseem clover. The highest net return was recorded by sowing pearl millet after berseem clover and applying CT followed by RT practices, which could be recommended for the commercial production. Moreover, it could be assumed that the combination of growing grass forage crops after legume crops under CT or RT systems could enhance forage crop yield and quality with an improvement in soil properties for sustainable agriculture with low cost and the highest net income.

Caseins determine the physicochemical, physiological, and biological characteristics of milk. Four caseins—alpha-S-1, alpha-S-2, beta, and kappa—were analyzed phylogenetically and in silico and characterized regarding chemical, antimicrobial, and antioxidant features in five dairy animals: Arabian camels, sheep, goats, cattle, and water buffalos. The sequence of full-length amino acids of the four caseins for the five species was retracted from the NCBI GenBank database. Multiple sequence alignment is used to examine further the candidate sequences for phylogenetic analysis using Clustal X and NJ-Plot tools. The results revealed that sheep and goats possess strong similarities (98.06%) because of their common ancestor. The same was observed with cattle and water buffalos (96.25%). The Arabian camel was located in a single subclade due to low similarity in casein residues and compositions with other dairy animals. Protein modeling showed that alpha-S1- and alpha-S2-caseins possess the highest number of phosphoserine residues. The in silico computed chemical properties showed that β-casein recorded highest hydrophobicity index and lowest basic amino acid content, while α-S2-casein showed the opposite. The computed biological parameters revealed that α-S2-casein presented the highest bactericidal stretches. Only Arabian camel β-casein and k-casein showed one bactericidal stretches. The analysis also revealed that β-casein, particularly in Arabian camels, possesses the highest antioxidant activity index. These results support the importance of the bioinformatics resources to determine milk casein micelles' chemical and biological activities.

Summary: The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) has given rise to an era marked by interconnected devices and substantial data generation. This has led to an increased reliance on cloud computing for data processing and storage, primarily due to its cost‐effective pay‐for‐use model. However, this dependence has prompted critical inquiries into the optimal replication of data: what data to replicate, when to replicate it, and where to place new replicas strategically. Conventional cloud data replication often results in resource overutilization, performance bottlenecks, increased workloads, energy consumption, prolonged user wait times, and suboptimal response times. In response to these challenges, this paper introduces a novel approach named Multiobjective Optimization Harris Hawks Optimization with Salp Swarm Algorithm (MOHHOSSA). This approach employs multiobjective optimization (MOO) alongside Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) and IoT‐based Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) for cloud computing environments. MOHHOSSA efficiently identifies data replication opportunities and strategically allocates them across nodes in cloud computing infrastructures. The algorithm aims to enhance key performance metrics, including energy consumption, carbon dioxide emission rate, and mean service time. Extensive experimental validation demonstrates MOHHOSSA's superior performance compared to alternative algorithms. It excels in optimizing energy efficiency, load distribution, mean service time, and the establishment of cost‐effective communication paths between nodes. This research represents a significant advancement in addressing challenges related to IoT data replication in cloud computing, ultimately promoting more sustainable, efficient, and responsive cloud‐based services. Determining the appropriate parents for breeding programs is the most important decision that plant breeders must make to maximize the genetic variability and produce excellent recombinant genotypes. Several methods are used to identify genotypes with desirable phenotypic features for breeding experiments. In this study, five kalanchoe genotypes were morphologically characterized by assessing plant height, number of inflorescences, number of flowers, flower length, flower diameter and number of petals. The analysis showed the distinction of yellow kalanchoe in the plant height trait, while the orange kalanchoe was distinguished in the number of inflorescences, the number of flowers and flower length traits, whereas the violet kalanchoe possessed the largest flower diameter and the highest number of petals. The molecular profiling was performed by random amplified polymorphism DNA (RAPD), inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) and start codon targeted (SCoT)-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tools. Genomic DNA was extracted from young leaves and the PCR reactions were performed using ten primers for each SCoT, ISSR and RAPD marker. Only four out of ten primers showed amplicon profiles in all PCR markers. A total of 70 bands were generated by SCoT, ISSR and RAPD-PCR with 35 polymorphic bands and 35 monomorphic bands. The total number of bands of RAPD, ISSR and SCoT was 15, 17 and 38, respectively. The polymorphism percentages achieved by RAPD, ISSR and SCoT were 60.25%, 15% and 57%, respectively. The cluster analysis based on morphological data revealed two clusters. Cluster I consisted of violet and orange kalanchoe, and cluster II comprised red, yellow and purple kalanchoe. Whereas the cluster analysis based on molecular data revealed three clusters. Cluster I included only yellow kalanchoe, cluster II comprised orange and violet kalanchoe while cluster III comprised red, and purple kalanchoe. The study concluded that orange, violet and yellow kalanchoe are distinguished parents for breeding economically valued traits in kalanchoe. Also, the study concluded that SCoT and RAPD markers reproduced reliable banding patterns to assess the genetic polymorphism among kalanchoe genotypes that consider the basis stone for genetic improvements in ornamental plants.
