Quantitative literacy is an important skill needed by individuals in solving problems with quantitative situations in daily life. Thus, this paper aimed to identify quantitative literacy in solving the PISA problem based on gender differences. This study used descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Research subjects in this study were two tenth-grade students in middle school. They were one male student and one female student who have the similar mathematical ability. Data were collected by giving the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) problem, especially mathematical literacy, and using the interview method. The research results showed that the quantitative literacy of male student in solving PISA problems is by using fewless symbols to represent time and incomplete algorithms and procedures. In comparison, the quantitative literacy of female student in solving PISA problems is by using a more detailed description, more mathematical operations, and solving the problem according to algorithms and procedures. Furthermore, both students have quantitative literacy aspects, including interpretation, calculation, representation, assumption, analysis, and communication skills. Therefore, the quantitative literacy ability of students can be used as a reference for teachers to determine the modeling activities conducted by students in solving the PISA problem.

Mathematisation ability of prospective teachers that was low in solving mathematical literacy problems needs serious attention. Therefore, to help prospective teachers do mathematization, they were employed by giving mathematical literacy problems. This study aims to produce mathematical literacy problems that were valid, practical, and have potential effects on the mathematization ability of prospective teacher students. The study was conducted using a design research type development study. Thirty students of prospective teachers in a private university in Sidoarjo became the subjects. Mathematical literacy problems’ qualities from this research should support prospective mathematics teachers in categorizing horizontal and verticalization activities. In addition, the problems were designed using the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) framework with the Indonesian context. The results suggested that the developed mathematical literacy problems could be categorized valid based on validators’ evaluation, practically based on the small group phase results, and have the potential effects were assessed from the results of student tests handed in field test phase using mathematical literacy problems. The test results showed that 78% of prospective mathematics teachers were in the good category of mathematization ability after using the developed problems. The developed mathematical literacy problem has a potential effect so that it can be used as an alternative question in lecturing higher education activities to support the mathematics of prospective teacher students.

Affective need to be considered by the teacher because it makes learning more effective. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyse students’ affective through learning with problem posing approach. The present research employs qualitative study. The subject of the research involved 39 students of science class 3 on grade X of Wachid Hasyim 2 Senior High School in Taman, Sidoarjo. The instruments to analyse students’ affective consists of observation note, questionnaires and interview guide. The data is analysed throughout descriptive qualitative. Implementation of the research emphasised composing and problem posing aspects which was done by the students on linear equation system of three variables. The result of the analysis shows that the students’ affective could be identified through receiving, responding, valuing, organizing and characterizing by a value. The subjects with high affective had completely met the aspects of affective and tended to likely be more active during the learning process.

[English]: The purpose of this study was to explore the mathematization underpinnings of prospective mathematics teacher on mathematical problem-solving. This study used explorative research with a qualitative approach. The instruments in this study were mathematical ability test, contextual problems, and interview guidelines. A prospective mathematics teacher who has high mathematics ability involved in this study. The subject was selected from 56 prospective mathematics teachers through a test. After the subject solved contextual problems, an interview was conducted. The result revealed that prospective mathematics teacher did mathematization when solving the contextual problem by simplifying, solving in a structural way, and fitting to the context of the problem. This finding implies that mathematization could reveal the way prospective mathematics teacher formulates contextual problems into mathematical problems. Keywords: Mathematization, Prospective mathematics teacher, Problem-solving, Contextual problems [Bahasa]: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi matematisasi yang mendasari mahasiswa calon guru matematika dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian eksploratif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes kemampuan matematika, masalah kontekstual, dan pedoman wawancara. Subjek penelitian adalah seorang mahasiswa calon guru dengan kemampuan matematika tinggi yang dipilih dari 56 mahasiswa dengan menggunakan tes kemampuan matematika. Setelah subjek penelitian menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual, dilakukan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa calon guru matematika melakukan matematisasi yang sangat penting karena menyelesaikan masalah matematika dengan menyederhanakan masalah, menyelesaikan masalah secara terstruktur, dan diarahkan sesuai dengan konteks yang ada dalam masalah. Temuan dalam penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa melalui matematisasi dapat diketahui cara mahasiswa dalam merumuskan masalah kontekstual ke dalam soal matematis. PISA problems are based on real life context. It can be also enriched with Islamic value integration. The aim of this reseacrh is understanding the effect of posing PISA-like problems to students. The research was carried out qualitatively. The problems which are designed with context of Islamic value integration was posed to students. Then, the students filled in a questionare and have been interviewed about their responses on the problems. The results show that all subject being more motivated in doing a good deed suit on Islamic values. They told that they gained new understanding upon Islamic values from the context presented in the problems. They became aware that they will get reward when they practice an Islamic teaching. Some of them think that the problems are quite difficult and even unfamiliar for them. In the other hand, they feel happy because they finally know that the practice of Islamic teaching their doing so far will be rewarded.

Representation is the main skill needed by someone in the process of solving problems, especially mathematical literacy problems. Thus this paper aimed to describe the process and results of developing mathematical literacy problems that are valid, practical, and have the potential effect on students’ representation. In developing problems, researchers used design research with development study type. The problems was developed with a formative evaluation consisting of self evaluation, one to one, expert review, small group, and field test involving 2 experts from mathematical literacy experts, and 36 first-year students. The results of the study showed the problems developed to meet valid and practical criteria based on one to one results analysis, expert reviews, and small group. Furthermore, the problems developed also have potential effects based on a field test analysis that showed students were empowered in generating representations in solving problems.

Thinking process is one of the important activities in solving mathematical literacy problem. Thus, this paper aimed to identify two students’ thinking process in solving mathematical literacy problem with space and shape content. This study used descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Research subjects in this study were two tenth grade students of middle school. Data were collected by giving the mathematical literacy problem with space and shape contents and using think aloud. Next, data were analysed by studying the three types of thinking processes: conceptual, semi conceptual, and computational. The results of this study pointed out that the students’ thinking process were conceptual and computational. The activities carried out by students could be grouped into four categories, namely 1) stating what is known in the problem with their own language or changing in mathematical sentences, 2) stating what is asked in a problem with their own language or changing in mathematical sentences, 3) making a plan to solve problem completely, and 4) stating the steps taken in solving the problem using the concepts that have been studied. The type of thinking process of students influences the activities carried out by students in solving mathematical literacy problem so that teachers were supposed to consider this aspect when teaching mathematics especially topics that related to mathematical literacy.

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang memiliki kemampuan matematika dari tinggi sampai rendah. Selain itu, akan ditelaah capaian kemampuan siswa pada setiap karakteristik yang muncul. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskripsi kualitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII MTsN di kota Jombang dengan ukuran sampel yaitu siswa yang berkemampuan rendah yang diambil dari nilai matematika siswa pada bab SPLDV. Variabel dalam penelitian ini adalah kemampuan komunikasi siswa. Data diperoleh dengan proses pengerjaan soal dan wawancara per individu. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa adanya perbedaan antara komunikasi matematis lisan dan tulisan. Komunikasi matematis dalam bentuk lisan digolongkan berdasarkan keakuratan, kelengkapan, dan kelancaran penjelasan jawaban. Sedangkan kemammpuan komunikasi dalam bentuk tulisan digolongkan berdasarkan keakuratan, kelengkapan, dan kesistematisan jawaban. Terungkap bahwa dari masing-masing subjek menunjukkan capaian yang berbeda tiap karakteristik baik lisan maupun tulisan. Subyek penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan dalam kemampuan komunikasi matematika saat berkomunikasi.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan keterampilan berpikir kreatif siswa dalam memecahkan masalah ditinjau dari Adversity Quotient (AQ) siswa kelas XI IPS tahun pelajaran 2017/2018. Penelitian ini mengunakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan datanya dilakukan dengan pemberian angket dan tes yang berupa soal penyelesaian masalah. Hasil menunjukan bahwa siswa IPS yang memiliki tingkat AQ tinggi dan AQ sedang cenderung tidak putus semangat dalam menyelesaikan masalah dan terus mencoba dengan beberapa cara yang dia miliki, sedangkan untuk siswa yang memiliki AQ rendah cenderung malas dan kurang mampu untuk menyelesaikan masalah sedang dalam kekreatifan yang dimiliki oleh ketiganya adalah hampir sama, namun perbedaan yang sangat menonjol adalah letak usaha yang dimiliki oleh ketiga siswa tersebut. Oleh karena itu diperlukan upaya guru untuk memberikan soal berbasis masalah dan menganjurkan kepada siswa untuk selalu berusaha dalam menyelesaikannya.
