Mobile learning presents many benefits to lecturers, students, and universities. It provides the opportunity for all to access information anytime and anywhere and also promotes learning autonomy and mobility. This paper aims to systematically analyze publications on mobile learning in higher education conducted over twenty years by providing knowledge to help researchers in this area. The data were obtained from the Scopus database. A total of 587 peer-reviewed publications were analyzed. The results show that the number of articles increased significantly after 2016, and there was an upward trend after 2018. Our results regarding prolific journals show that many articles in this field were published in several prominent journals. Our results revealed that 91 countries contributed to research worldwide, and the most productive institutions are from different continents. In addition, results indicated that recently published countries on the topic are India, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Germany. Regarding research trends, our results yielded three research clusters. The first cluster focused on building a learning environment for students, while the second cluster included research on mobile learning in medical education. In addition, the third cluster investigated young adults' use and perceptions of mobile phones in learning through surveys and questionnaires. Moreover, the results we obtained demonstrated that recent studies also focused on academic performance and augmented reality was a trending topic before academic performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research investigates university students' intentions and behaviors regarding the adoption of mobile learning tools in higher education, with a focus on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT-2) model. A sample of 541 university students from a state university in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey participated in this study. Structural equation modeling was employed to assess students' mobile learning adoption levels, and statistical analyses were conducted accordingly. The findings indicate a moderate level of mobile learning adoption among the students. The study reveals that students employ various strategies while using mobile tools for learning. Notably, among digital natives, intention to use mobile devices is significantly influenced by habit, hedonic motivation and effort expectancy. Additionally, the study identifies a significant relationship between the use behavior variable and facilitating conditions. The research also examines regulatory effects within the model, demonstrating that age moderates the relationship between habit and use behavior. Furthermore, gender has a moderating effect on the relationship between facilitating conditions and behavioral intention, as well as between hedonic motivation and behavioral intention. Finally, experience moderates the relationship between habit and use behavior, as well as between behavioral intention and use behavior.

With the development of mobile communication technology and the widespread popularization of mobile devices, mobile learning (m-learning) as a new learning model has achieved rapid development in many fields. Therefore, it is essential to clearly describe the knowledge development trajectory and research topics in the field of m-learning. This paper reviews 1396 articles associated with m-learning since 1992 to explore the knowledge trajectories. The global main path and the key-route main path reveal that higher education has become the leading research field of m-learning. The majority of researches focus on personalized guidance and acceptance and adoption of m-learning. Multiple main paths obtain three subareas, including design and development of m-learning, factors affecting the acceptance and adoption of m-learning, and comprehensive application of m-learning. This research extends the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model based on the expectation-confirmation and self-determination theories. It is aimed at exploring students' perspectives regarding the acceptance of mobile learning (m-learning) in higher education. Although UTAUT receives considerable attention in technology acceptance research, the present study is unlike previous work, in that it is among the first to integrate the self-determination and expectation-confirmation theories with this model to better understand m-learning adoption, particularly in developing countries. A total of 246 undergraduate students responded voluntarily to an online questionnaire. The resulting findings suggest that integrating the UTAUT model with variables that represent learners' basic psychological needs can highly affect their acceptance of m-learning technology. Mobile user typology is absent from popular models for mobile learning adoption though understanding such typology can help with design of learning. This paper explores the salient mobile user typology by applying latent class analysis to reported use of mobile phone features collected from students at six university campuses in four countries (Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago). It also relates the user types to behavioural intention to adopt mobile learning within a structural equation modelling framework. The results indicate four mobile user types which are distributed differently over the campus-territory groups and to which age, sex, programme level and programme type of the students are significantly related. Furthermore, mobile user typology is related to behavioural intention to adopt mobile learning and this avails it as a candidate for inclusion in models used for mobile learning adoption. Mobile Learning (m-learning) a learning method facilitated by the convenience of mobile technology has a crucial role to play in the development of quality education in Nigeria which represents the fourth Sustainable Development Goal. However, Despite the advantages of mobile learning as an emerging learning method and its adoption across several disciplines, research into its adoption in accounting education and within developing contexts including Nigeria is still at infancy. This study, therefore, investigates the readiness of Accounting students in Nigeria to utilize m-learning for their accounting education. The survey research design was employed with copies of a relevant questionnaire distributed to 1,225 accounting students in three tertiary as well as three professional institutions in Nigeria, a total of 1021 of the retrieved copies were deemed suitable for data analyses. The study observes that there is a widespread usage of mobile devices and technology, especially smart devices among accounting students in both tertiary and professional institutions. It also found that the cost of internet access, instability of network as well as the level of the inexperience of students and instructors may impede the successful adoption of m-learning in Nigeria. The study recommends that m-learning adoption of m-learning in Nigerian should go in-line with the enhancement of mobile infrastructure especially network coverage and the training of students as well as instructors in the country to use mobile technology for learning. This will bring sustainable development to education in Nigeria.

Mobile learning adoption is an active area of research. This paper aims to contribute to better understanding of mobile learning adoption by providing a body of knowledge to aid researchers working in this field. The applied method is systematic review of commonly used databases based on the guidelines proposed by Kitchenham (Keele, UK, Keele University, 33(2004), 1-26, 2004). In total 39 publications were retrieved out of which 27 were relevant to our research questions. The results highlighted publication trend, adoption models used and a set of factors that influence mobile learning adoption.
