Our aim was to explore the pharmacokinetics (PK), bioequivalence, food effect, and safety of oral ibuprofen sustained-release capsules by two sponsors in healthy volunteers (HVs).Methods: Two separate randomized, open-label, single-dose, crossover-design studies were conducted: a fasting study (n = 24) and a fed study (n = 24). In each study, HVs were 1:1 divided into two groups (T-R and R-T) and received 0.3-g/capsule ibuprofen with a 3-day washout. The plasma was collected for up to 24 hours at the time point after dosing on Day 1/Day 4. The plasma concentrations of ibuprofen were measured using an HPLC-MS/MS method, and PK parameters were determined by noncompartmental methods.Results: Forty-eight healthy volunteers were enrolled. In fasting subjects, the maximum plasma concentration (Cmax, mean ± SD) was 14.86± 3.19 μg/mL at 5.0 (4.0, 7.0) hours (median [min, max]) for sponsor T, and 13.88± 2.60 μg/mL at 4.5 (3.0, 8.0) hours for sponsor R. In fed subjects, Cmax was 21.31± 4.08 μg/mL at 5.6 (4.3, 10.0) hours for sponsor T, and 19.77± 3.36 μg/mL at 6.0 (2.0, 8.0) hours for sponsor R. All 90% confidence intervals (CIs) for Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞ were within the bioequivalence bounds (80– 125%) both fasting and fed studies.Conclusion: Ibuprofen is well tolerated and has a favorable safety profile. In both fasting and fed study, there were no serious AEs, or AEs leading to withdrawal. Bioequivalence is achieved under fasting and fed conditions, supporting the demonstration of biosimilarity.Keywords: ibuprofen, bioequivalence, pharmacokinetics, safety, HVs

This study was conducted to optimize a process of low-temperature plasma treatment for the decontamination of Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus) on corn kernels. Impacts of plasma-treated time (30, 60, 90 s), plasma-treated power (300, 400, 500 W), and vacuum degree (85, 90, 95 Pa) on the decontamination effect in this process were explored. The optimal conditions included vacuum degree at 90 Pa, plasma treating time of 90 s, and plasma treating power of 500 W, under which the A. flavus spores was 4.03 log (cfu/g). Plasma treatment triggered antioxidative defense system, broke cell structures, and dispersed cell contents. A large number of free radicals act on lipids and proteins, and malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulate in large quantities, further leading to damage to cell structures.

In clinical practice, informed consent to anesthesia technology is still a unique field of anesthesiology. For patients with mental disorders, anesthesiologists' neglect of the process of informed consent has become a weak link in clinical work. With the primitive moral instinct of humans and based on sympathetic moral care for patients with mental disorders, proxy consent is considered to be beneficial to patients, but in reality, there are many factors that restrict their rights in anesthesia informed consent. In the medical model of doctor-patient joint decision-making, patients with mild mental disorders should be involved in the informed consent process as much as possible, and the depth and breadth of the information provided depend on the patient's insight. The path to truly obtaining informed consent for anesthesia from patients with mental disorders needs to be optimized. Through multi-disciplinary cooperation and other methods, we can achieve real informed consent and protect the rights of patients with mental disorders.

Among malignant tumors, lung cancer has the highest morbidity and mortality worldwide. Surgery is the first-line treatment for early-stage lung cancers, and has gradually advanced from conventional open-chest surgery to video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). Additionally, increasingly smaller surgical incisions and less surgical trauma have resulted in reduced pulmonary function damage. Previous studies have found that the level of pulmonary function loss and recovery is significantly correlated with postoperative complications and the quality of life. Thus, an accurate assessment of the preoperative pulmonary function and effective rehabilitation of postoperative pulmonary function are highly important for patients undergoing lung surgery. In addition, pulmonary function assessment after pulmonary rehabilitation serves as an objective indicator of the postoperative pulmonary rehabilitation status and is crucial to facilitating pulmonary function recovery. Furthermore, a complete preoperative assessment and effective rehabilitation are especially critical in elderly patients with pulmonary tumors, poor basic physiological functions, comorbid lung diseases, and other underlying diseases. In this review, we summarize the clinical significance of pulmonary function assessment in patients undergoing lung cancer surgery, postoperative changes in pulmonary function, effective pulmonary function rehabilitation, and the influencing factors of pulmonary function rehabilitation.

This study investigated factors determining the willingness to adopt grasscutter domestication technology in South west, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling procedure was used to select 160 respondents from 9 urban towns in Oyo, Ogun and Osun States. Well-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was analysed using descriptive analysis, correlational analysis and t-test. Results showed that the majority (69.4%) of the respondents were male and married. Coefficient correlation (r value) at (p< 0.05), shows that there is a significant association between respondents’ educational status, religion, household size, primary as well as secondary education with respondents’ willingness to adopt the technology. There was also found significant relationship between, perceived health status of those who are into the grasscutter technology, perceived nutritional value and economic value of the grasscutter domestication technology with the willingness to adopt the grasscutter domestication technology. The result if the T-test revealed that there is significant relationship between perceived ease of practice and willingness to adopt the technology. The majority of the respondents are willing to rear grasscutter if variables like space, fund, availability of ready-made buyer and feed, breeding stock and training are put into place. However, issues relating to having enough plots of land, funding, ready-made buyer of grasscutter, and training facilities are most germane. It is therefore recommended that funding and training on the adoption of the grasscutter domestication technology should be made available to individuals. BackgroundThe "peak drift" is an important factor affecting the measurement accuracy of the γ spectrometer.PurposeThis study aims to quickly identify and correct the "peak drift" of the high-purity germanium (HPGe) γ spectrometer in laboratory.MethodsA novel "the natural radionuclide characteristic peak spectrum stabilization method" was proposed in detail. Instead of characteristic energy peak of standard radioactive source, this method made use of the characteristic peak of natural radionuclide K-40 to identify "peak drift" and correct the "peak drift" of HPGe γ spectrometer. The effectiveness of this method on the ORTEC HPGe gamma spectrometer was verified by using liquid multi nuclide standard source and standard point source 60Co.Results & ConclusionThe results show that this "natural radionuclide characteristic peak spectrum stabilization method" has advantages of simple operation, fast peak recognition, and real-time accurate correction, which is suitable for the measurement of the γ nuclides in laboratory process system samples.

Climate variability has often been described as one of the most pressing environmental challenges. Our lifestyles, economy, health, income, livelihood and our social well-being are all affected by climate. This paper therefore, assessed climate variability, its effect of gender and coping strategies they adopt in Baringo County, Kenya. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in analyzing the data obtained for the study. Findings show that there is consisent decrease in rainfall and increase in temperature in recent times. Male gender dominates household decisions and roles such as land preparation, livestock keeping/feeding, pesticide application and fence construction in Baringo County, Kenya while the female gender dominates household roles such as water supply, domestic home chores and more of agricultural activities. Livestock migration was the major traditional coping strategy adopted in Baringo County. 56.8% of the respondents shows that cutting grasses for livestock was the major short term coping strategy adopted while Rainfall harvesting and storage (5.92%) was the least adopted in the studied area. Long term coping strategy to climate variability mostly adopted by the rural populace in is livestock migration (48.52%), it was also observed here that the least long term coping strategy adopted is finding alternative job as reputed by 4.44% of the respondents. Special intervention projects such as rain water harvesting techniques, drought resistant crops, short term crops etc, should be provided to rural populace/dwellers in Baringo County, and other parts of Kenya experiencing severe variability in climate, resulting to drought.

Information is very scarce on the prevalence of hepatitis-B virus (HBV) infection among blood donors and patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in Nigeria. Hepatitis-B surface antigen (HBsAg) ELISA was used to determined the prevalence of HBsAg among 175 blood donors (aged 20-40 years) and 490 HIV-infected patients (aged 17-60 years) in Jos, Nigeria. Twenty-five (14.3%) of the blood donors and 127 (25.9%) of the HIV-infected individuals were HBsAg seropositive, indicating a higher HBV infection among HIV-infected persons than among healthy blood donors. A slightly higher HBsAg seroprevalence was recorded in the males (14.6%) than females (12.9%) of the blood donors. Among the HIV-infected patients, the males had considerably higher HBsAg seroprevalence than the females (31.8 vs 22.1%) with the highest prevalence of HBsAg occurring in the 51-60 years age group (44%), followed by those of 31-40 years (28.2%). Results confirmed the high endemicity of HBV infection in Jos, Nigeria and the significantly greater prevalence of HBV infection among HIV -infected patients than among blood donors.

In this paper a depletion model with two different approaches (stochastic and deterministic) was analyzed, in order to compare the observation error hypothesis in the catch-per-unit effort (CPUE) data, and the process error in the model, as well as its effect on the recruitment and catchability estimates in the jumbo squid fishery from the Gulf of California, Mexico. Results showed an underestimation of the catchability (q) when the deterministic aproach was used. The observation error showed a bias in q (+31%) higher than in recruitment (+8%), while a Monte Carlo simulation estimated a negative bias for q, and a positive bias in recruitment. The computation of the expected value of catchability ( E(ˆqCPUE/Ci)) was 2.8 × 10–4, while the confidence intervals with the deterministic model were 3.3 × 10–4 < q < 4.1 × 10–4, showing that the estimate of E(ˆqCPUE/Ci) was not within these confidence intervals. E(ˆqCPUE/Ci) fitted the model to the data, describing the trend of the CPUE index in time, and its implications in the management of the jumbo squid fishery.

We present the results of the analysis of overlap in the diet of the Pacific sardine Sardinops caeruleus, the northern anchovy Engraulis mordax and the thread herring Opisthonema libertate. These are the most commercially important species of small pelagic fishes in the fishery that is developed in the Gulf of California. Although the diet of these species is very similar, the overlap is only significant between the northern anchovy and the thread herring. As these two species do not overlap spatially in the Gulf of California, the possibility of competition for food between them is considered unlikely.

Background: Approximately half of patients with chronic ischemic cerebrovascular disease (CICD) exhibit poor revascularization. Metallothionein 2 A (MT2A) has a high affinity for metal ions and is potentially capable of chelating toxic copper ions to alleviate the impairment of angiogenesis. Therefore, we hypothesized that MT2A could promote angiogenesis in chronically ischemic brains by neutralizing excessive copper ions during copper overload (CPO)., Methods: We first collected dura matter (DM) samples from CICD patients and examined the expression of cuproptosis-related genes (DLAT, FDX1, and SDHB) to confirm the inhibitory effect of CPO on angiogenesis. Then, we treated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with different concentrations of elesclomol and CuCl 2 to determine the optimal concentration for inducing CPO. HUVEC activity and mitochondrial structure and function were detected to explore the ability of MT2A to alleviate CPO-induced damage. Finally, a rat model of 2-vessel occlusion plus encephalo-myo-synangiosis (2VO + EMS) with CPO was established to test the proangiogenic effect of MT2A through the copper-mitochondria regulatory mechanism in chronically ischemic brains., Results: Compared with those from Matsushima grade A patients, DM samples from Matsushima grade C patients presented significantly greater DLAT and FDX1 expression and significantly lower SDHB expression. The optimal drug concentration for inducing CPO was subsequently determined, and in vitro experiments revealed that HUVEC activity was significantly decreased in the CPO group under hypoxic culture, accompanied by increased DLAT oligomerization, decreased SDHB expression, increased HSP70 expression. Moreover, significantly more common mitochondrial aberrations and significantly lower mitochondrial activity were detected in the CPO group compare with the control group. Additionally, MT2A overexpression alleviated CPO-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and cytotoxicity, improving HUVEC viability. Background: Voriconazole (VRC) has been used as an alternative treatment for talaromycosis. However, there are few studies reporting the VRC plasma concentration in patients with talaromycosis. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlations between VRC initial steady-state trough concentration and clinical outcomes., Methods: We prospectively enrolled patients who were diagnosed with talaromycosis and received VRC as initial antifungal treatment regime. Medical information, VRC initial steady-state trough concentration, clinical outcomes and adverse events (AEs) were recorded for analysis., Results: This study included 69 patients with talaromycosis receiving VRC treatment, including 38 HIV-positive patients and 31 HIV-negative patients. The average age of the HIV-positive patients was 42 years, and that of the HIV-negative patients was 51 years. After 12 weeks of antifungal treatment, 55 patients achieved clinical remission, 3 patients were transferred to amphotericin B treatment because of persistent clinical symptoms, and 5 patients died, 2 patients discontinued VRC treatment due to AEs. Follow up to 6 months, a total of 14 AEs were observed in 12 patients, and 3 patients discontinued VRC treatment due to AEs. The average VRC initial steady-state trough concentration was 5.26 mg/L, with a range of 0.23-16.95 mg/L, indicating high variability. No correlation was found between the VRC initial steady-state trough concentration and treatment failure (P = 0.079). A significant correlation between AEs and the VRC initial steady-state trough concentration was found (P = 0.048). The VRC initial steady-state trough concentration threshold for AEs was 5.88 mg/L according to the ROC curve analysis. In addition, there was a significant correlation between mortality and the APACHE II score (P = 0.029). The risk of death significantly increased when the APACHE II score was > 10., Conclusion: Voriconazole is an effective antifungal drug for talaromycosis in patients with APACHE II scores < 10. VRC steady-state trough concentration may not be significantly correlated with poor prognosis. A high VRC trough concentration was significantly correlated with AEs, and it may promote the management of AEs., Competing Interests: Declarations.
