The goal of the hereby presented master's thesis is to provide a novel view of the person and personality of Václav Havel, the first post-November president and dramatic. The author does so through medial images of his two wives, Olga Havlová and Dagmar Havlová, performing their function as the first ladies. A specific periodical was chosen for purposes of the conducted analysis - Mladá fronta DNES. The theoretical part of the work aims to present the life and work of Havel and both of his wives, while also providing a definition of the role of the president and the first lady in the Czech Republic. A generic profile of the investigated periodical is also briefly discussed. Lastly, the theoretical part contains a description of the research method consisting of qualitative and content analysis. In the practical part of the presented thesis, texts concerning the president and his wife were chosen based on previously stated criteria. The focus was put on their foreign state visits, charitable activities, or private life of the pair. The transformation of sports sections of Czech daily newspapers between 2001 and 2015 The dissertation deals with the transformation of sports sectionsin the daily newspapers, in their traditional paper form, between 2001 and 2015. In this period, Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo were faced with the almost permanent decrease of the circulation, the financial crisis in 2008 made their situation even more difficult. At the same time, sports journalism have changed due to the expansion of the TV stations and mainly of the Internet; the news became more available. The newspapers considered some innovation and they decided to change the number of pages devoted to sport or to replace the match and race reports by the reactions of players or more often by stories with larger context.

With the development of digital media, cooperation and communication with the audience has become a common practice of media organizations at the national and regional levels. Consumers of media content are now much more involved in working with media content, which they not only change and edit, but also help create. Gradually, the boundaries between the author and the audience are blurred. This diploma thesis deals with user-generated content in selected regional media in the Ústí nad Labem region. Specifically, it examines the use of user-generated content in the regional newsroom of Czech Television in Ústí nad Labem, in Děčínský deník and Mladá fronta Dnes Severní Čechy. The theoretical part brings the field context of changes in journalism with the advent of digital media and their impact on traditional journalism. The bachelor thesis The Dissolution of the Soviet Union and the year 1991 in the contemporary Czech press aims to describe how the Czech daily newspapers Rude pravo, Mlada fronta Dnes and Lidove noviny reported on the events of 1991 connected with the collapse of the Soviet Union. For this purpose, it uses a qualitative content analysis of news and opinion articles published in the aforementioned newspapers in the period from 1 June to 31 December 1991. The thesis focuses on six key events of 1991: the election of Boris Yeltsin as president of the RSFSR, the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, the G7 summit in London, the August coup, the Belavezha Accords and the resignation of Mikhail Gorbachev as president of the USSR. Based on the data collected, it describes what aspects of the chosen events the newspapers emphasized, how they portrayed the personalities associated with these events, how they used news agencies and their own foreign correspondents in doing so, and whether they differed in any way in these respects. The thesis also aims to capture part of the Czech media scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s and the impact of the newly acquired press freedom on their coverage of the Soviet Union.

This diploma thesis "Media image of Andreje Babiš in the following newspapers: Mladá fronta DNES, Právo Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny in the connotation with the affair of a stork's nest" focuses on issue of the media image of an important public figure, politician and head representative of the most popular party in our republic in the time periods chosen for the purpose of this diploma thesis (May 2016, August 2017 and March 2018). It is a well known fact, that Andrej Babiš purchased, through his company Agrofert certain media, for example Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny, in the year 2013. This diploma thesis is an attempt to portray if a fact of this acquisition had any influence on media image of Andrej Babiš in those newspapers, meaning Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny. This media image is going to be compared with the media image of Andrej Babiš in the same time periods in the newspapers Právo and Hospodářské noviny. The diploma thesis deals with the way in which the three most read printed and three most read online media reported on coronavirus in the beginning of its spread in the Czech Republic. Specifically, it monitors whether and to what extent the media outputs from these media on the four selected events coincided with the outputs on these events issued by the Czech Press Office (ČTK) and at the same time whether these media adhered to the principles of objectivity. In the theoretical part, the author analyzes media routines, journalistic ethics and other concepts such as moral panic or self-fulfilling prophecy, with which she also works in the practical part of the theses. For the purposes of the research, the author chose a content analysis and defined four research questions, which she answers through the results of this analysis. In total, she analyzes 149 media outputs and 101 outputs of the Czech Press Office. The conclusions of this work prove that the media used ČTK as a source in only 15 % of cases. Online media referred to it more often. 56 % of the media outlets were similar to the ČTK outlets only in the main announcement. The bachelor thesis compares media images in the daily newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes in selected annual years. The 1st, 5th, 10th, 25th and 30th anniversaries of the events of the Velvet Revolution were chosen for the purposes of the work. Each of the chapters presents both the content and visual aspect of individual editions in selected historical periods. By outlining the topics and space chosen by the newspaper, which the periodical provided to individual personalities of the era of the Velvet Revolution and events before and after the event, then present a comprehensive media image in the mentioned periods. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The thesis entitled Comparison of the media coverage of the World Floorball Championships in years 2008 and 2018 aims to identify and compare the media coverage devoted to these two championships held in the Czech Republic. The goal of the thesis is to determine and compare the media coverage in the two examined media - Mladá fronta DNES, Deník Sport and online servers iDnes.cz and iSport.cz, based on these findings define which direction is the trend going. The master thesis Czech and Slovak media representation of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia is concerned with the way in which media portrayed the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. Through the analysis of articles on the topic in question it examines the media image created by each newspaper respectively, by Czech and Slovak newspapers as two units and the overall image based on all of the collected data. Three Czech (Mladá fronta DNES, Rudé právo and Blesk) and three Slovak (Smena, Pravda and Nový Čas) newspapers served as the source for the analysis. Articles from two periods were collected - from the time the act on the dissolution of Czechoslovakia was passed and from the time the actual dissolution took place. The aim is to establish the overall media image of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, but also to compare and contrast the image created by Czech and Slovak newspapers and to study their differences concerning the overall positive, negative or neutral image as well as the implemented media frames. Topic of the thesis is the image of Czech far-right parties in Czech media prior to Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017. Aim of the thesis is to investigate how media displays far-right parties prior to the Elections in 2017, what the topics of media coverage are in regards of far- right and how the topics changed in the Elections in 2017 comparing with Elections in 2013. Using quantitative content analysis the thesis monitors texts with far-right topics in national daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Právo and Hospodářské noviny in the periods prior to the Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017 and 2013. This diploma thesis deals with the media presentation of three chosen successes the Zlín ice-hockey club has achieved since the 1990s. The practical part is constituted by a quantitative content analysis that studies three different types of newspaper and their online counterparts (a community paper the Zlínský deník, online at: zlinsky.denik.cz, a national paper with a developed regional supplement the Mladá fronta dnes, online at: idnes.cz and a national paper the Právo, online at: sport.cz) in three periods of time (the Czech ice-hockey league finals in 1995, 2004 and 2014). The analysis studied 873 media articles in total. In general, the extent of coverage increased strongly between the years 1995 and 2004. The coverage of the finals by the community media was the most detailed, just as supposed. Quite surprising was the extent of coverage by the Mladá fronta dnes that was larger than expected. The core of sports reporting didn't really change across time, titles or information channels. The news, stories and game evaluations comprised the biggest part of the coverage. But it was the form of reporting that kept changing. The most observable trends were the growth of visual content in time and the increasing position of the Internet. Especially in 2014, its usage was quite extensive.

Thesis Alena Slezáková and her position in media. Biographical study deals with career of a journalist, who has witnessed during her activie years in media important events of Czech and Czechoslovakian history. Since the year 1964 she worked in Lidová demokracie, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and magazines Naše rodina and Týden. In the year 1969 she was forbidden from entering parliament. She was allowed to return after Velvet Revolution, when she also started to work on education of young and beginning journalists. In the end of her career, right before she retired, she became a book reviewer. This biographical study uses method of oral history, which means that author of this thesis interviewed Alena Slezáková regularly. It also uses method of qualitative content analysis of her texts, that informed about events in politics and society in Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia. Thesis also mentions important historic affairs, so the life and work of Slezáková can me contextualized. This thesis investigates the trend of reusing the content of printed media in their on-line counterparts, based on several selected Czech national newspapers (Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Právo) and their corresponding news servers (idnes.cz, lidovky.cz, novinky.cz) over the course of one constructed week in 2015. The theoretical section examines the interrelatedness of printed and on-line media, the impact of digitization on the transformation of the journalistic profession, and its influence on the content and recipients of media communications. The fundamental questions posed by this research are as follows: What percentage of the printed content is reused in the newspaper's corresponding on-line version and vice versa, and which of the selected media reuse the most content? The research operates with three initial hypotheses regarding the quantity and frequency of content conversion: printed journals reuse their content in on-line news servers at a rate of up to 5%, news servers reuse their content in printed journals at a rate of up to 10%, and the practice of shovelware is most frequently employed by the periodicals Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. The thesis "Development in media reflection of cycling race Tour de France in daily newspaper Mladá fronta DNES and in Czech Television in 2010-2015" deals with the world's most famous cycling race and the way it is presented in selected Czech media. It summarizes the basic information about the history of the race and outlines how Tour de France was referred to during given years. Based on a qualitative content analysis, the thesis also examines the news routines that appear in the output, focusing on how the production is affected by the so-called couch journalism and if the results are influenced by the journalists being fans themselves. These phenomena are examined considering six individual Tour de France races. The analyzed media include Mladá fronta DNES and Czech Television, two media flagships, as far as referring to Tour de France is concerned. One of the sources for the practical and theoretical part of this thesis are also interviews with Tomáš Jílek - reporter from Czech Television - and Tomáš Macek - reporter from Mladá fronta DNES.

The thesis Commentaries of Czech daily newspapers dealing with the Czech government crisis taking place in April and May 2017 analyzes opinion texts published in daily newspapers Hospodářské noviny, Právo and Mladá fronta DNES from 27th April until 26th May 2017 dealing with government crisis ongoing at that time. Theoretical part of the thesis analyzes, among other things, the phenomenom of media ownership and its concentration. It pays attention also to transformation of Czech political party systém in last years, which is indisputably a relevant circumstance for the political journalism too. The methods of qualitative and quantitative content analysis are used in the thesis, which researches frequency of media coverage of the observed issue and mainly a dominant attitude of commentators of particular daily newspapers to three main characters of the government crisis - the Minister of Finance Andrej Babiš, the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the President Miloš Zeman. Results of the analysis is put into context of ownership of particular daily newspapers, mainly with emphasis on the fact that genuine owner of Mladá fronta DNES is, through the private trusts, actually Minister Babiš.

Using a qualitative content analysis, the thesis "Framing of Islam in the Czech News" examines the framing of Islam and Muslims in the Czech daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES and Právo before and after the terrorist attacks in Paris (7-8 January 2015). Its theoretical framework views Islam both from the perspective of Czech society and the Czech media, the study of the latter aspect drawing on Czech as well as foreign theoretical works and research focused on Islam in the media. The thesis also considers the concept of media framing. The qualitative analysis aims to identify a set of frames specific to the media construction of Islam and Muslims. The extent to which framing is influenced by location (Islam and Muslims in the Czech Republic and abroad) and the Paris events (the development of framing over time - before and after the attacks) is also explored. Finally, the research looks at the role played in writings on the subject by stereotypes, orientalism, new racism (namely islamophobia) and van Dijk's ideological square.

The death of Pope John Paul II. ended a nearly thirty-year long period in the church, during which even in the Czech atheistic community the Pope was a topic that the mass media was intensively devoted to. Both of his successors came to the office, while the media had an extraordinary interest, which was further supported by the various specific conditions. Pope Benedict XVI. and his successor, Pope Francis, are two different personalities, with a different way of speaking, different life experiences and different relationships to the media. All these factors were reflected by the media, which participated in the creation of their media image - the way they were presented to the public. This diploma thesis compares the differences in the creation of media images of both Popes in the first year of their appointment. Two types of media were chosen for comparison, which represent the most typical newspapers in the Czech Republic. Mladá fronta DNES represents a serious approach. On the other hand the second one, BLESK, represents the tabloid way of reporting. The quantitative content analysis method is used for comparison, thanks to which the published articles about both Popes can be analyzed and get some representative conclusions about these Popes.

This master thesis is focused on evaluating media content connected with 2017 government crisis and the influence of media ownership on that media content. The thesis analyses five major daily newspapers. Two of them were owned by Andrej Babiš, one of the two main characters of the crisis, before he put them into the trust fund. The content is analysed by quantitative metrics which are further interpreted. The result of the analysis is, that the influence of media ownership can be observed. MF Dnes and Lidovky are overall more critical to Bohuslav Sobotka than to Babiš meanwhile for example Denik is much more critical to Babiš.

The diploma thesis The reflection of the minor sports in the Czech News Agency press service deals with news agency coverage of sports which do not belong to the most watched in the Czech Republic: basketball, floorball, handball and volleyball. Author describes the development of the sports journalism's position within the journalism in general and also within the society in the theoretic part. He also deals with the particular types of the text and audio-visual news services which are produced by the Czech News Agency. The research was focused on the Czech minor sports' leagues as well as on other international or national competitions since June 2017 to April 2018. The news service is divided into specific categories (usually pre-season period, regular season and possible qualifying/relegation rounds or play offs and play outs) in the domestic leagues research. Author of the thesis compares the position of the individual minor sports among each other and also deduces the position of the minor sports compared to major sports like football or ice hockey from the quantified data. 1 Annotation The bachelor's thesis focuses on the study of media image of the Czech political parties in MF DNES. There are two periods monitored and the daily newspaper shouldn't be influenced allegedly in any of them by the politician and businessman Ing. Andrej Babiš. The first period is defined from the beginning of the political party ANO 2011 until the closing deal with previous owners of the Czech media group MAFRA, the second period begins by the transfer of the Andrej Babiš's shares to the trust funds, and the study ends by his cession from the post of Finance Minister. There is applied comparative analysis and the results of the study are processed in the enclosed charts. The charts are accompanied by a concise script that briefly describes the content of the political articles appearing on the title pages. In the analysis of the daily press is taken account of the current political situation. The study is complemented by the historical and present context of the broadsheet Mladá fronta DNES, as well as the businessman and the politician Andrej Babiš.

Diploma thesis deals with comparation of media content of two journals - Sport and Mladá fronta DNES. The research is focused on few periods during one year of first czech football league. On this basis and with help of czech and foriegner experts knowledge, the thesis tries to answer the question, wheather Sport journal favors AC Sparta Praha club in their published materials and vice versa FC Viktorie Plzen club. To answer this question, it uses a comparative qualitative content analysis method. It is based on a set of articles from three periods of the autumn part of the football season and three periods from spring part. It takes into account not only texts of articles, but also, for example, the front pages or subtitles that are an important part of the daily press content. The research results are continuously summarized after each one of the periods and at the end there is a complete summary and final answer to the research question. The research resulted in finding that - considering the article contents - that in Sport journal materials published in examined periods there was no significant favoring of Sparta Praha. On the contrary - in the topics representation considering Sparta and Plzen there was an outweight toward Letná and the same can be applied to front pages to certain extent.

The bachelor thesis entitled "Media image of Czech fine arts in daily newspapers" covers the issue of Czech visual arts in Czech periodicals, namely in Právo, Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny, throughout the year 2016. The main aim of the work is to map all the articles about Czech visual arts, to create an overview of their focus, content or form and to compare their occurrence among individual periodicals. The work will answer about what topics and artists was written mostly in 2016, in what context and with what value. Time scatter was chosen to make the work as current as possible and to describe the current state of affairs. In the theoretical part, the brief post-revolutionary history of the Czech art scene and its current tendencies are outlined and the events in 2016 are summarized in the auction market, within institutions, prizes and other events. In the practical part, the source data from individual periodicals are examined. The quantitative content analysis has been selected for the research, which analyzed the occurrence of individual articles, their timing, extent, main themes and context. The aim of my bachelor thesis is to characterise the Imanuelites movement based on the reflections of the movement in Czech national daily newspaper. The theoretical part focuses on the terms new religious movements and sects. Furthermore, it explores the Grail Movement, which the Imanuelites movement follows, its past and evolution throughout history. In the next chapter, the Imanuelites' history is presented, special attention is given to the movement's founder Jan Dvorský and its development in the 90s. The final part is devoted to the comparison of quality media and tabloids and the ways how each captured the Imanuelites movement in the years 1993 - 2017.

Exploration of the influences that an owner can have on his own media is an important topic nowadays. This master thesis focuses on the possible owner influences on his newspaper in the example of buying of the publishing house Mafra by Agrofert's owner Andrej Babis. It covers articles concerning Agrofert in two of Mafra's dailies - Mlada fronta Dnes and Lidove noviny. The reporting period covers two years before and two years after the purchase of Mafra by the owner of Agrofert and the current Czech Minister of Finance Andrej Babis. This covers the dates 5. 6. 2011 - 24. 6. 2013 and 25. 6. 2013 - 24. 6. 2015. This thesis uses the processes of quantitative content analysis and focuses on the comparison of texts about Agrofert in these two periods. In the sample of 631 articles it examines two dozen categories, such as topic, placement on the page as well as in the daily itself or quotation of Andrej Babis, and it tracks the changes that occurred in both halves of the reporting period. The shift in content of the Mafra's media, after the change of its owner has not been largely examined yet. This means that this thesis brings a first complex insight into the topic. The diploma thesis Analysis of the political instrumentalization of the periodic press Mladá fronta DNES in the period before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2013 examines, if leader of the political party ANO Andrej Babiš used his position of the owner of the media group MAFRA to influence media content in the periodic press Mlada fronta DNES during the period before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2013. Theoretical framework briefly describes the basic concepts of political communication and geopolitical division of the models of political communication including the Czech media scene. Focus is primarily on the development and possible ways of instrumentalization of printed media operating in the Czech media market after 1989. Results of quantitative research showed that four other political parties gained more media attention then political party ANO which ended up second in the election. The thesis The media image of the Fair Trade concept in the Czech press examines media image of the Fair Trade business system in the most widely read newspapers Aha!, Blesk, Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES, Právo and Sport. The aim is to find out whether newspapers report on Fair Trade in broader context and in which frames it is most likely presented. At the same time the thesis examines the extent to which newspapers inform about Fair Trade. There are two hypothesis formulated, one suggesting that the amount of articles referring about Fair trade has an increasing tendency and that articles do not address the issue in broader context. The answers to research questions and the validity of the hypotheses are examined through quantitative and qualitative content analysis based primarily on the framework theory. Deductive procedure using pre-formulated control questions is also used. The finding is that the newspapers most often present Fair Trade in economics frame followed by conflict frame and human impact frame. In addition, the thesis examines the presence of a critical frame, which is almost absent in the newspapers. The context is usually limited. The bachelor thesis is dealing with issue of Islam and its pesentation in the serious journals. The thesis is devided into two parts. It introduces the basic terms regarding medial logic and its concepts. It also dealig with the Islam itself and its history regarding Europe and Czech republic. This first, theoretical part also shows the concepts that are oftenly connected to the Islam. In the second, empirical part, I identify by quantitative analysis how was the presentation of Islam week before and after the terorist attack on Charlie Hebbo in Paris in January 2015 changed. In the quantitative part, I mostly focused on authors of media articles in the journals. With the help of quantitative analysis, by the method of embeded theory to be more specific, this thesis is evaluating several interviews with the authors of the articles. The aim of this work is to have better understanding of what have created the mindset of the author towards Islam and towards final artical in the serious media.

The bachelor thesis aims to describe the way the Czech printed media reported on the topic of adoption by homosexual couples in the Czech Republic. Using qualitative analysis methods, it points out particular frames to which individual contributions are included. Conclusions of this method will also be supported by a brief quantitative analysis. The language and terminology used by journalists will be a key factor in the study. Similarly, it will be analyzed from whom the media workers receive testimonies for their articles.Special care will be dedicated to the titles of individual articles. The work will also focus on how journalists report on political leaders and their activities around the topic of adoption by homosexual couples. For this purpose, three newspapers were selected, namely Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. This periodicals are the most widely read newspapers in the Czech Republic. In this context, the analysis is limited on news articles that were published within twelve consecutive calendar months, with the beginning of this period being set at 15 May 2013. The thesis Framing of News Photography in the Czech Press on the Example of the Civil War in Libya explores the visual coverage of the conflict by Czech print media. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the theory of framing. It also focuses on the role of media in armed conflicts, visual behavior of media, the specifics of war photography and its framing. Furthermore the thesis explores the important relationship between image and text. The research draws on extensive literature on media framing as well as foreign research and combines quantitative and qualitative analysis. The practical part is based on the theory of Johan Galtung and his concepts of war and peace journalism, which can be seen as two competing frames. One of the first visual quantitative analysis to apply Galtung's theory was carried out by Shahira Fahmy and Rico Neumann. This study was used as a basis for the thesis. The diploma thesis "Analysis of the Czech and American News Coverage of the 2008 Presidential Elections in the U.S. and American President" examined if American press, represented by The New Your Times, is influencing the coverage of presidential candidates in Czech press, which is represented by Mladá fronta DNES and Hospodářské noviny. The examination is based on the example of presidential race in 2008 in USA. The aim of the research is if there are signs of international two-step flow in Czech press. The second part of the research is focused on so called honeymoon effect in Czech press on the example of news Coverage of President Barack Obama in his first term in office. The quantitative content analysis showed that there are similar features in the coverage of presidential race in Czech and American press. The investigation also showed that Czech press is more positive in the coverage of Barrack Obama at the beginning of his first term in office and this positivity declined in the second year.

A bachelor's thesis on Changes in Media with the Arrival of a New Owner. Case Study: MF DNES deals with the functioning of periodicals' ownership in the Czech Republic. In particular, it aims to present the current situation in the area with the example of daily newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes, which after many years of operating under a foreign owner, German company Rheinisch-Bergische Verlagsgesellschaft passed into the ownership of Czech businessman and current Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Andrej Babiš. After his entry into the said most popular Czech broadsheet newspaper, doubts began to appear in public discourse on whether media owned by a both politically and entrepreneurially significant person can be independent. This paper therefore monitors changes that have occurred in the Mladá fronta Dnes periodical with the arrival of the new owner, and also whether the media image of Mr. Babiš's person and his interests has been improved upon through the articles of the newspaper. The results presented here were obtained with the use of a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis, and they show that there has been a substantial increase in contributions regarding the new owner, though their impact was rather negative.

My diploma thesis deals with respecting the journalism ethics by two most read general- interest newspapers in the Czech Republic - Mlada fronta DNES and Hospodarske noviny, when using complex communicate including a news photo. My research sample contained just breaking news (home and world) published nationwide in March, 2014. A relationship between meanings of particular parts in complex communicates (the headline, the caption, the photo and the article) and has been my variable that I was searching for within the sample. As all the parts work together in building one sense, which should represent a reality, I suppose, that meanings of these parts should show a relationship of harmony and substitution within one complex communicate. I used semiotic analysis to analyse meanings within a communicate, both denotation and connotation level. I applied my knowledge of social and visual semiotics, semantics and pragmatics to explain the meanings of individual signs. At the end of my research I compared results of my analysis to outcomes of Magda Polmanova's research - a former Charles University student that dealt with almost the same topic as me in her bachelor thesis, analysing the same dailies however from 2011. The theoretical phase explains the normative media theory as well as basic journalistic concepts used in this thesis such as well as conflict of interest and the legislation that deals with it. But this part of thesis mainly contains of two profiles of media moguls, which are also in top level politics - Andrej Babiš and Silvio Berlusconi. This thesis, The Media Image of Czech Presidents during the Normalisation Period and Today looks at the visual component of the media image of Normalisation-era president Gustáv Husák and democratic president Václav Havel. The study looks at their visual representations in the newspapers Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Mladá fronta DNES. The theoretical part of the study focuses on defining the role of President in the Czech political system, and outlines the historical context. The research part comprises a quantitative and qualitative analysis of photographs published in the determined newspapers. The study also details the characteristic activities of official presidential photographers and gives an assessment of information acquired during in-depth interviews with official presidential photographers. The bachelor thesis deals with analysis of marketing communication of daily newspaper Mladá fronta DNES. It is divided into two parts: the theoretical and the practical. The theoretical part defines basic concepts of marketing and marketing communication which are completed by specifics in media environment, specifically in the print media. Furthermore, there is summarized the print history of the 20th century in the area of the Czech Republic with emphasis on circumstances of the origin of the focused newspaper as well. The diploma thesis explores how the selected Czech and French media inform about the Israeli- Palestinian conflict using the operation Protective Edge, from summer 2014, as an example. Theory of the thesis is based on the relationship between power and media in society and examines reciprocal impact between political and media power. Two national daily newspapers from each country were chosen for the analysis. These two newspapers also present opposite poles of the political spectrum in each country. Media contents of the daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Právo, Le Figaro and Le Monde are analysed with combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. This methodology helps to create a comprehensive image of the conflict represented by the researched media. Quantitative analysis aims to describe the balance of the coverage and differences between French and Czech media in context with the representation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The research also focuses on the impact of the foreign policy of France and the Czech Republic on media contents of the analysed media. Qualitative analysis works with smaller sample of texts and aims to present the representation of the war by the French and Czech media.

Thesis "Selected aspects of the war news in Czech daily newspapers on the example of the war in Croatia" analyze approach Czech printed media to reporting on the war in Croatia. This work verifies the existence of selected journalistic routines, using by journalists when they reporting on military conflicts, that was emerged from the study of foreign research, through quantitative analysis of the front pages of Mladá fronta Dnes and Rudé právo from the years 1991 to 1995. The thesis focuses on how floods were covered in Czech newspapers. The approach taken by two periodicals, Mladá Fronta (MF DNES) and Rudé Právo (Právo), was compared on five examples of actual floods that took place in the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia between 1954 - 2002. Examined was how the manner in informing about natural disasters differs between the period prior to 1989 and after, and how developments in technology contributed to the visual aspects of reporting on these events.

This bachelor thesis deals with the media portrayal of the 2011 riots in the north of Bohemia in selected media: the most read serious newspaper Mladá fronta DNES, the tabloid newspaper Blesk, which is at the same time the most read daily in the Czech Republic, and the news website Romea.cz, which is focused on the Roma minority. In summer 2011 there were two attacks on people from ethnic majority by groups of Roma in the north of Bohemia. Lots of riots and demonstrations followed there. In the theoretical part, the thesis focuses on the history of the Roma minority in the Czech Republic, as well as their current situation, the media construction of reality and stereotypes in media, especially about ethnic minorities. The next part of the thesis contains a qualitative study of the selected media, which analyses how the media referred to the riots and whether there were some stereotypes about Roma in the articles. Subsequently, there were several problematic ways of referring to the riots identified within the analyzed media. Stereotypes about the Roma minority appeared most often in Mladá fronta DNES. The key research question for my bachelor thesis deals with the problem of how great is the media image influence of the leader of a political party on the success in the elections. I will try to answer this question in the case of Jiri Paroubek, who was the leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2006. I decided to verify these theories, that explain the issue of leader and election campaign personalization. Then I carried out my research on two of the most famous newspapers on the right and left of the political spectrum: finding out how positive or negative was before the election the media image of Jiri Paroubek and Czech Social Democratic Party in these two newspapers. The research results are then compared with the pre-election opinion polls and election results and verified, if the media image of Jiri Paroubek was really different from his political party and whether it had an impact on the electoral success. It could help verify the validity of several theories, that leadership attributes of the leader have the great influence on the success of his party.

In this thesis, the author focus on the description of mass, later called popular culture, and its products, the two selected, originally British, talent singing reality show, "Česko hledá SuperStar" (and "Česko Slovenská SuperStar") and X Factor. Their competitors are the subject for qualitative research of articles in periodical press. The aim of the research is using qualitative content analysis to analyse "Mladá fronta DNES" and "Blesk", and how published texts construct contestants of selected shows. For research was selected period of time when the competition was broadcasted, February - June 2004; February - June 2008 and September - December 2009.

The main goal of this bachelor thesis, "Comparison of media interest in Czechoslovakia/Czech athletes at summer Olympic Games in Ciudad de Mexico in 1968 and London in 2012", is to compare the media interest in Czechoslovakia and Czech athletes in Československý sport, Sport, Mladá fronta, Mladá fronta Dnes, Rudé právo a Právo newspapers, during two summer Olympic Games concretely the one in Ciudad de México (1968) and in London (2012). The quantitative content analysis was used to find out how much of the space was given to our athletes in each kind of newspapers. I made the comparison of those two years and also the comparison of every each newspapers. Results of the analysis shows the differences and progress in the sports journalism.

This diploma thesis on Representation of the problem of climate change in the print media is a content analysis of Czech quality daily newspapers, namely Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. It deals with the way the selected daily newspapers presented debate on global climate change in 2013-2014. The theoretical part informs readers about the basic concepts and definitions and introduces them to the problem. The empirical part answers the question of whether the media coverage of global climate change in Czech quality daily newspapers is consistent with scientific findings of the international climate discourse represented by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) or whether it relies equally on opinions of the small group of so called climate skeptics who question the general consensus of the scientific comunity regarding the causes and consequences of climate change or the need of adequate measures. The results of research indicated that most of analyzed articles informed about climate change the same way as the main climatological research. The largest number of skeptical articles appeared in Lidové noviny. A considerable number of articles didn't comment on the causes of climate change, their seriousness or decisions regarding action.
