Eclipsing, spectroscopic double-lined (SB2) binaries remain to be the prime source of precise and accurate fundamental properties of stars. Furthermore, high-cadence spectroscopic observations of the eclipse phases allow us to resolve the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect whose modelling offers the means to probe spin-orbit misalignment in binaries. In this study, we develop the LSDBinary algorithm that is capable of working with both in-eclipse and out-of-eclipse spectra of SB2 binaries as input and delivers the LSD profiles, LSD-based model spectra, and precise RVs of both binary components as output. We offer an option to account for the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect in the calculation of the initial guess LSD profiles and components' flux ratio such that the effect can be modelled within the algorithm itself. We provide an extensive test of the LSDBinary software package on simulated spectra of artificial binaries. We study the effects of signal-to-noise-ratio of input spectra, resolving power of the instrument, uncertain atmospheric parameters of stars, and orbital properties of the binary system on the resulting LSD profiles and RVs measured from them. We find that atmospheric parameters have negligible effect on the shape of the computed LSD profiles while affecting mostly their global scaling. Our results are barely sensitive to signal-to-noise ratio of the input spectra provided they contain sufficient number of spectral lines, such as in A-type stars and later. Finally, the orbital inclination angle and components' radii ratio are found to have the largest effect on the shapes of the LSD profiles and RV curves extracted from them. RZ Cas is a short-period Algol-type system showing episodes of mass transfer and Delta Sct-like oscillations of its mass-gaining primary component. We analyse high-resolution spectra of RZ Cas that we obtained during a spectroscopic long-term monitoring lasting from 2001 to 2017. Spectrum analysis resulted in precise atmospheric parameters of both components, in particular in surface abundances below solar values. We find that the variation of orbital period is semi-regular and derive different characteristic timescales for different epochs of observation. We show that the radial velocity variations with orbital phase can be modelled when including two cool spots on the surface of the secondary component. The modelling leads to precise masses and separation of the components. The seasonal variation of several parameters, such as vsin(i), rotation-orbit synchronisation factor, strength of the spots on the cool companion, and orbital period, can be characterised by a common timescale of the order of nine years. We interpret the timescale of nine years as the magnetic activity cycle of the cool companion. In particular the behaviour of the dark spots on the cool companion leads us to the interpretation that this timescale is based on an 18-year magnetic dynamo cycle. We conclude that the mass-transfer rate is controlled by the variable depth of the Wilson depression in the magnetic spot around the Lagrangian point L1. In the result, based on available data, we observe a damped activity cycle of the star, starting with a high mass-transfer episode around 2001, followed by quiet periods in 2006 and 2009, slightly higher activity around 2013 and 2014, and again followed by quiet periods in 2015 and 2016. However, owing to missing data for years 2010 and 2011, we cannot exclude that a second high mass-transfer episode occurred within this time span., Comment: 18 pages, 19 figures, 10 tables. Classical T Tauri stars with ages of less than 10 Myr possess accretion discs. Magnetohydrodynamic processes at the boundary between the disc and the stellar magnetosphere control the accretion and ejections gas flows. We carried out a long series of simultaneous spectroscopic and photometric observations of the classical T Tauri stars RY Tau and SU Aur with the aim to quantify the accretion and outflow dynamics at time scales from days to years. It is shown that dust in the disc wind is the main source of photometric variability of these stars. In RY Tau we observed a new effect: during events of enhanced outflow the circumstellar extinction gets lower. The characteristic time of changes in outflow velocity and stellar brightness indicates that the obscuring dust is near the star. The outflow activity in both stars is changing on a time scale of years. Periods of quiescence in H$\alpha$ profile variability were observed during 2015-2016 season in RY Tau and during 2016-2017 season in SU Aur. We interpret these findings in the framework of the magnetospheric accretion model, and discuss how the global stellar magnetic field may influence the long-term variations of the outflow activity., Comment: 17 pages, 13 figures, 4 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS

R Canis Majoris is the prototype of a small group of Algol-type stars showing short orbital periods and low mass ratios. A previous detection of short-term oscillations in its light curve has not yet been confirmed. We investigate a new time series of high-resolution spectra with the aim to derive improved stellar and system parameters, to search for the possible impact of a third component in the observed spectra, to look for indications of activity in the Algol system, and to search for short-term variations in radial velocities. We disentangled the composite spectra into the spectra of the binary components. Then we analysed the resulting high signal-to-noise spectra of both stars. Using a newly developed program code based on an improved method of least-squares deconvolution, we were able to determine the radial velocities of both components also during primary eclipse. This allowed us to develop a better model of the system including the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect and to derive improved orbital parameters. Combining the results with those from spectrum analysis, we obtain accurate stellar and system parameters. We further deduce at least one oscillation frequency of 21.38 c/d. It could be detected during primary eclipses only and confirms a previous photometric finding. Results point to an amplitude amplification of non-radial pulsation modes due to the eclipse mapping effect. The presence of a He\,I line in the spectra indicates mass transfer in the R CMa system. Calculations of its Roche geometry give evidence that the cool secondary component may fill its Roche lobe. The paper deals with a computational method for detection of the solar system minor bodies (SSOs), whose inter-frame shifts in series of CCD-frames during the observation are commensurate with the errors in measuring their positions. These objects have velocities of apparent motion between CCD-frames not exceeding three RMS errors ($3\sigma$) of measurements of their positions. About 15\% of objects have a near-zero apparent motion in CCD-frames, including the objects beyond the Jupiter's orbit as well as the asteroids heading straight to the Earth. The proposed method for detection of the object's near-zero apparent motion in series of CCD-frames is based on the Fisher f-criterion instead of using the traditional decision rules that are based on the maximum likelihood criterion. We analyzed the quality indicators of detection of the object's near-zero apparent motion applying statistical and in situ modeling techniques in terms of the conditional probability of the true detection of objects with a near-zero apparent motion. The efficiency of method being implemented as a plugin for the Collection Light Technology (CoLiTec) software for automated asteroids and comets detection has been demonstrated. Among the objects discovered with this plugin, there was the sungrazing comet C/2012 S1 (ISON). Within 26 minutes of the observation, the comet's image has been moved by three pixels in a series of four CCD-frames (the velocity of its apparent motion at the moment of discovery was equal to 0.8 pixels per CCD-frame; the image size on the frame was about five pixels). Next verification in observations of asteroids with a near-zero apparent motion conducted with small telescopes has confirmed an efficiency of the method even in bad conditions (strong backlight from the full Moon). RZ Psc is an isolated high-latitude post-T Tauri star that demonstrates a UX Ori-type photometric activity. The star shows very weak spectroscopic signatures of accretion, but at the same time possesses the unusual footprints of the wind in Na I D lines. In the present work we investigate new spectroscopic observations of RZ Psc obtained in 2014 during two observation runs. We found variable blueshifted absorption components (BACs) in lines of the other alcali metals, K I 7699 \AA\ and Ca II IR triplet. We also confirmed the presence of a weak emission component in the H$\alpha$ line, which allowed us to estimate the mass accretion rate on the star as $\dot{M}\leq$ $7 \cdot 10^{-12}$Msun yr$^{-1}$. We could not reveal any clear periodicity in the appearance of BACs in sodium lines. Nevertheless, the exact coincidence of the structure and velocities of the Na I D absorptions observed with the interval of about one year suggests that such a periodicity should exist.

We investigate the nature of the long-period radial velocity variations in Alpha Tau first reported over 20 years ago. We analyzed precise stellar radial velocity measurements for Alpha Tau spanning over 30 years. An examination of the Halpha and Ca II 8662 spectral lines, and Hipparcos photometry was also done to help discern the nature of the long-period radial velocity variations. Our radial velocity data show that the long-period, low amplitude radial velocity variations are long-lived and coherent. Furthermore, Halpha equivalent width measurements and Hipparcos photometry show no significant variations with this period. Another investigation of this star established that there was no variability in the spectral line shapes with the radial velocity period. An orbital solution results in a period of P = 628.96 +/- 0.90 d, eccentricity, e = 0.10 +/- 0.05, and a radial velocity amplitude, K = 142.1 +/- 7.2 m/s. Evolutionary tracks yield a stellar mass of 1.13 +/- 0.11 M_sun, which corresponds to a minimum companion mass of 6.47 +/- 0.53 M_Jup with an orbital semi-major axis of a = 1.46 +/- 0.27 AU. After removing the orbital motion of the companion, an additional period of ~ 520 d is found in the radial velocity data, but only in some time spans. A similar period is found in the variations in the equivalent width of Halpha and Ca II. Variations at one-third of this period are also found in the spectral line bisector measurements. The 520 d period is interpreted as the rotation modulation by stellar surface structure. Its presence, however, may not be long-lived, and it only appears in epochs of the radial velocity data separated by $\sim$ 10 years. This might be due to an activity cycle. Auns. The aim of our paper is to investigate the low-amplitude and long-period variations in evolved stars with a precise radial velocity (RV) survey. Methods. The high-resolution, the fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) was used from 2003 to 2013 for a radial velocity survey of giant stars as part of the exoplanet search program at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO). Results. We report the detection of three new planetary companions orbiting the K giants beta Cnc, mu Leo, and beta UMi. The planetary nature of the radial velocity variations is supported by analyzes of ancillary data. The HIPPARCOS photometry shows no variations with periods close to those in RV variations and there is no strong correlation between the bisector velocity span (BVS) and the radial velocities for each star. Furthermore, the stars show weak or no core reversal in Ca II H lines indicating that they are inactive stars. The companion to beta Cnc has a minimum mass of 7.8 M_Jup in a 605-day orbit with an eccentricity of 0.08. The giant mu Leo is orbited by a companion of minimum mass of 2.4 M_Jup having a period of 357 days and an eccentricity of 0.09. The giant beta UMi is a known barium star and is suspected of harboring a white dwarf or substellar mass companion. Aims. We have been carrying out a precise radial velocity (RV) survey for K giants to search for and study the origin of the lowamplitude and long-periodic RV variations. Methods. We present high-resolution RV measurements of the K2 giant HD 66141 from December 2003 to January 2011 using the fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO). Results. We find that the RV measurements for HD 66141 exhibit a periodic variation of 480.5 +/- 0.5 days with a semi-amplitude of 146.2 +/- 2.7 m/s. The Hipparcos photometry and bisector velocity span (BVS) do not show any obvious correlations with RV variations. We find indeed 706.4 +/- 35.0 day variations in equivalent width (EW) measurements of H_alpha line and 703.0 +/- 39.4 day variations in a space-born measurements 1.25{\mu} flux of HD 66141 measured during COBE/DIRBE experiment. We reveal that a mean value of long-period variations is about 705 +/- 53 days and the origin is a rotation period of the star and variability that is caused by surface inhomogeneities. For the 480 day periods of RV variations an orbital motion is the most likely explanation. Assuming a stellar mass of 1.1 +/- 0.1 M_Sun? for HD 66141, we obtain a minimum mass for the planetary companion of 6.0 +/- 0.3 M_Jup with an orbital semi-major axis of 1.2 +/- 0.1 AU and an eccentricity of 0.07 +/- 0.03., Comment: 7 pages, 10 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publisation in Astronomy & Astrophysics

Aims. To search for extrasolar planets around intermediate-mass stars, we are conducting a precise RV survey around K-giants. Methods. We present high-accuracy RV measurements of {\alpha} Ari made from November 2003 to February 2010. This star belongs to our sample of 55 K-giants studied for extrasolar planet and pulsation searches using the fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) attached to the 1.8-m telescope at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) in Korea. Results. We find a planetary companion with long-period and low-amplitude radial velocity (RV) variations in oscillating K2 III star {\alpha} Ari (HD 12929). We do not find the correlation between RV variations and chromospheric activity indicators (Ca II H & K region, H{\alpha} line). The bisector analysis also shows that the bisector velocity span (BVS) does not show any obvious correlation with RV variation but has periodic component that may be attributed to the rotation of the star. If the RV variation is indeed caused by a planetary companion, an orbital solution with a period of P = 381 days, a semi-amplitude of K = 41 m/s, and an eccentricity of e = 0.25 fits the data best. Assuming a possible stellar mass of M_star = 1.5 M_sun, we estimate the minimum mass for the planetary companion of m2 sin i = 1.8 M_Jupiter with an orbital semi-major axis of 1.2 AU. Conclusions. Our finding of a likely exoplanet in {\alpha} Ari supports searching for extrasolar planets around giant stars with multiperiodic oscillations., Comment: 6 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables

Aims: Our primary goal is to search for planets around intermediate mass stars. We are also interested in studying the nature of radial velocity (RV) variations of K giant stars. Methods: We selected about 55 early K giant (K0 - K4) stars brighter than fifth magnitude that were observed using BOES, a high resolution spectrograph attached to the 1.8 m telescope at BOAO (Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory). BOES is equipped with $I_2$ absorption cell for high precision RV measurements. Results: We detected a periodic radial velocity variations in the K0 III star \gam1leo with a period of P = 429 days. An orbital fit of the observed RVs yields a period of P = 429 days, a semi-amplitude of K = 208 \mps, and an eccentricity of e = 0.14. To investigate the nature of the RV variations, we analyzed the photometric, CaII $\lambda$ 8662 equivalent width, and line-bisector variations of \gam1leo. We conclude that the detected RV variations can be best explained by a planetary companion with an estimated mass of m $\sin i = 8.78 M_{Jupiter}$ and a semi-major axis of $a = 1.19$ AU, assuming a stellar mass of 1.23 \Msun., Comment: accepted for publication in the Astronomy and Astrophysics

We present the results of a spectroscopic multisite campaign for the beta Cephei star 12 (DD) Lacertae. Our study is based on more than thousand high-resolution high S/N spectra gathered with 8 different telescopes in a time span of 11 months. In addition we make use of numerous archival spectroscopic measurements. We confirm 10 independent frequencies recently discovered from photometry, as well as harmonics and combination frequencies. In particular, the SPB-like g-mode with frequency 0.3428 1/d reported before is detected in our spectroscopy. We identify the four main modes as (l1,m1) = (1, 1), (l2,m2) = (0, 0), (l3,m3) = (1, 0) and (l4,m4) = (2, 1) for f1 = 5.178964 1/d, f2 = 5.334224 1/d, f3 = 5.066316 1/d and f4 = 5.490133 1/d, respectively. Our seismic modelling shows that f2 is likely the radial first overtone and that the core overshooting parameter alpha_ov is lower than 0.4 local pressure scale heights., Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, accepted in MNRAS

We report a multisite photometric campaign for the Beta Cephei star 12 Lacertae. 750 hours of high-quality differential photoelectric Stromgren, Johnson and Geneva time-series photometry were obtained with 9 telescopes during 190 nights. Our frequency analysis results in the detection of 23 sinusoidal signals in the light curves. Eleven of those correspond to independent pulsation modes, and the remainder are combination frequencies. We find some slow aperiodic variability such as that seemingly present in several Beta Cephei stars. We perform mode identification from our colour photometry, derive the spherical degree l for the five strongest modes unambiguously and provide constraints on l for the weaker modes. We find a mixture of modes of 0 <= l <= 4. In particular, we prove that the previously suspected rotationally split triplet within the modes of 12 Lac consists of modes of different l; their equal frequency splitting must thus be accidental. One of the periodic signals we detected in the light curves is argued to be a linearly stable mode excited to visible amplitude by nonlinear mode coupling via a 2:1 resonance. We also find a low-frequency signal in the light variations whose physical nature is unclear; it could be a parent or daughter mode resonantly coupled. The remaining combination frequencies are consistent with simple light-curve distortions. The range of excited pulsation frequencies of 12 Lac may be sufficiently large that it cannot be reproduced by standard models. We suspect that the star has a larger metal abundance in the pulsational driving zone, a hypothesis also capable of explaining the presence of Beta Cephei stars in the LMC., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, MNRAS, in press

The preliminary results of a 1996 multisite campaign on the pulsating lambda Bootis star 29 Cyg are presented. This campaign, initiated by the Central Asian Network (CAN), allowed to collect data during 48 photometric and 2 spectroscopic nights at observatories of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Hungary, Canada and USA. The multiplicity of excited modes is confirmed in both spectroscopy and photometry. Seven high-resolution and high S/N CCD spectra were used to derive elemental abundances in the atmosphere of VW Ari A (T_eff=7200, log g=3.7) which is the primary component of a visual binary system. The synthetic spectrum technique applied in the analysis allowed to reveal the following feature: the atmosphere of this star is strongly deficient in some metals, while light elements have solar-like abundances. Taking into account these results, one can suggest that VW Ari A is a lambda Boo-type star. Another argument supporting this supposition is the following: on the diagrams (b-y)-c_1, (b-y)-m_1 and (b-y)-beta (Paunzen et al. 1997), VW Ari A falls exactly in the region occupied by the lambda Boo stars. Note also, that a previous analysis (Andrievsky et al. 1995) has shown that the secondary component of VW Ari has a normal metallicity. The history and present status of informal asteroseismological network of Asian observatories of Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Turkmenistan is given. We give briefly the description of facilities of CAN sites, the 1994-1997 activity of CAN in international multisite asteroseismological campaigns and further strategy of CAN.
