Abstract

The general test plan for a redundant sensor strapdown inertial measuring unit evaluation program is presented. The inertial unit contains six gyros and three orthogonal accelerometers. The software incorporates failure detection and correction logic and a land vehicle navigation program. The principal objective of the test is a demonstration of the practicability, reliability, and performance of the inertial measuring unit with failure detection and correction in operational environments.

31. ESR and Optical Properties of Copper Atoms in γ-Irradiated Organic Solutions at 77 K

Abstract

EtOH and MTHF solutions containing Cu+ ions are γ-irradiated at 77 K. ESR spectra are attributed, for the first time, to Cu0 that is produced radiation-chemically by reducing Cu+ ions in the solutions at 77 K. A large delocalization of the unpaired spin density of Cu0 onto ligands is deduced. No evidence for formation of the dimer cation of Cu0 has been obtained. This is contrary to the case of Ag0 produced in the solutions containing Ag+ ions. The NUV absorption spectrum of Cu0 is decomposed into five Gaussian bands that are attributed to two types of exciplexes formed between excited Cu0 and ligands:  one associates with Cu+ ions as well as solvent molecules, the other consists mainly of solvent molecules. The exciplexes are supposed to be transferred to relaxed states followed by two emission bands, one of which is common to both solvents and the other is characteristic of the solvents. The absorption band at 255 nm is ascribed to a photoionization spectrum of Cu0.

37. Emission Characteristics of Silver Atoms in γ−Irradiated Organic Solid Solutions at 77 K

Abstract

Ag0 atoms were produced via the electron capture of Ag+ ions in γ-irradiated solid solutions of ethanol and MTHF at 77 K. The 2-dimensional time-resolved fluorescence spectra together with the steady-state fluorescence spectra and excitation spectra were measured by photoexcitation of Ag0 produced in the γ-irradiated solid solutions. The steady-state measurements have revealed the existence of two main emission bands at nearly 500 and 580 nm. The intensity of the 500 nm band increased and that of the 580 nm band concomitantly decreased with increasing concentration of Ag+ in both solutions. The time-resolved observation has shown that the 500 nm band consists of three components of different lifetimes (τ). The main component with τ ~ 1 μs is attributed to the exciplex (Ag0·Ag+)*, the one with τ ~ 2 μs, to the similar exciplex which is weakly coupled to solvent molecules, and the third one with τ ~ 3 ns, to Ag0* trapped in a large cavity where Ag0 scarcely interacts with solvent molecules. The 580 nm band grows at about 0.5−1 μs and decays with a long lifetime, i.e., about 50 μs in ethanol or 40 μs in MTHF. The band is attributed to the exciplex (Ag0·Ln)*, where Ln denotes n solvent molecules.

Abstract

The topological cross-sections for pp reactions at 6.94 GeV/c are given together with other published results. A total of 1294 events have been analysed corresponding to pp to pp pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ interactions at 7 GeV/c. The cross-sections of isobar productions, which were obtained by applying the peripheral phase-space method on the M(p pi /sup +/)-M(p pi /sup -/) plane are presented. (0 refs).
