超多様性が日常化する現代社会において、社会言語学の基本的概念である「ことばの共同体（スピーチ・コミュニティ）」をどのように捉えるべきなのか。本稿ではハワイの沖縄ディアスポラ共同体が発信するYouTube ビデオシリーズ“ Yuntaku Live!”のインタビュー談話に注目して考察を行った。スピーチ・コード理論に基づいて、舞台芸術家を対象としたインタビューの談話を分析した結果、沖縄ディアスポラ共同体の個人像、社会的人間関係、そしてコミュニケーション行動の特色について次の点が明 らかになった。舞台芸術家はその演舞を通して自らの内にある混成性（ハイブリディティ）と沖縄との歴史的連続性を重視し、演目に込められた、記憶の断片から想像した祖国の物語を聴衆と共有することで沖縄ディアスポラの社会的人間関係を構築して いる。舞台芸術に込められたこうした物語は、日常会話において「ユンタク」という固有のコミュニケーション儀式を通して広く共有され、国境を越えて人と人を結ぶ役割を担っている。舞台芸術の演舞とオンラインの仮想空間を媒介としてもたらされる人と人のこうしたネットワークは、超多様性を享受する現代における新出の「ことばの共同体」であり、この共同体創造の基盤をなすのが沖縄語語彙、メタ言語としての沖縄語、そしてそれらを契機として創造される物語である。

Everyday discourse in present-day Okinawa includes some remnant features of language use that have been passed down from Uchinaaguchi (Okinawan language) . Consequently, seemingly identical surface structures of Japanese and Okinawan may convey quite different modality. This study takes up one such modality marker. utterance final "shiyō ne," and carries out a contrastive analysis between Okinawan and standard Japanese discourse. The analysis of discourse data that were extracted from stage dramas and essays on some outlandish and yet likable Okinawan elderly characters reveals some distinctive modality features of "shiyō ne." It is used to confirm with a listener about an action a speaker intends to carry out. It is also used to induce an already agreed-upon action and to propose a joint action. However, it cannot be used to draw a wavering listener into a speaker's action. In contrast. all these modality features are enacted by "shiyō" in standard Japanese. Additionally. the study identified a common modality feature that expresses a speaker's wish for a listener. Many of these distinctive features derive from the modality marker's listener orientation and responsiveness to the contingency of an event. As such. "shiyō ne" is a composite modality marker that allows interlocutors to construct an alignment structure that is conducive to assertions of a\nspeaker's volition., 紀要論文

After reviewing the litertature on conceptual methaphors and presenting an analytical model of political discourse, this paper examines some U.S.-Okinawa postwar public discourese that centers on the notion of peace. If first identifies some dominant conceptual metaphors of peace(I.e.,PEACE IS JOURNEY; PEACE IS WAR) in American public discourse on postwar Okinawa. Then, along the dimensions of space, time, and modality, it deictically represents the ongnitive semantic sphere of conceptual metaphors. The analysis of metaphors reveals how peace justifies war, and how the JOURNEY-WAR metaphor is embodied in the everyday public activities of American political actors., 紀要論文

This paper reports some fieldwork findings from observations of a Japanese Baptist church in Seattle, Washington. The ethnographic observation of church services and related community activities by Japanese Americans depicts what may be called a cultural "tug-of-war" between Japanese past and American present. The church, now best characterized as a "commuter church" , is a material existence of Japanese American reinterpretation of Japanese past and American present. It is a site in which Japanese Americans re-create their Japanese heritage and reaffirm their cultural identity. In doing so, they transform their past and construct a new, shared ethnic identity. A transformation from a community church, which is defined by its locale, to a commuter church, which, in contrast, is defined by a voluntary community-wide network of people, can be taken as a material outcome of the competing cultural forces Japanese Americans experience. The study also describes a way in which some remnants of Japanese cultural terms and expressions serve as speech codes that invoke a Japanese past in the process of the cultural reinterpretation discussed above., 紀要論文

1978年の発表以来、ポライトネス理論は様々な論争を巻き起こして発展してきた。本稿ではまずその発展の経緯をたどり、理論の問題点を整理する。さらに、ポライトネス理論を異文化間依頼行動研究に応用する場合に必要だと考えられる修正点を指摘し、新しい理論的枠組みを提示する。ポライトネス理論の中心的な概念であるフェイスは、当初唱えられたように、｢承認」と「押し付けからの解放」というふたつの欲求に普遍的に分類できるものではなく、社会から与えられるものであり、その構成要素はそれぞれの文化・共同体に独自の概念である。したがって、特定の言語行為がフェイスを汚すものかどうかは、文化によって解釈が異なってくる。こうした文化依存性を考えると、ポライトネス理論の核心的概念である「フェイスを汚す行為」（ＦＴＡ）は、その視点を「フェイスを立てる行為」に転換することが望まれる。そうすることにより、異文化コミュニケーション行動は、発話者がお互いのフェイスに適応するプロセスであるととらえることができ、フェイスのコミュニケーション理論に論理的な一貫性が生まれてくる。さらに、フェイスという文化的概念を支える「己」の意識、意味、そして言語シンボルを民族誌学的にとらえることが重要となる。本論ではこのような新しい理論に向けての試みを五つの論点にまとめてみた。, 紀要論文

普遍的な発話行為のひとつとして唱えられた依頼行為（directive）については、多くの言語共同体における比較談話研究から、その表現上の多様性が明らかにされてきた。言語共同体に特有な依頼行為から推察される、文化的に規定された自己、対人関係、そして権力構造などについても多くの論考が存在する。異文化コミュニケーションにおいては、このような文化的特色を持つ総体が複数存在することから、談話を通して依頼行為の表現と意味の違いに関する相互調整が必要となる。そこで本稿では、従来の比較談話研究の結果を考察することによって、異文化コミュニケーションにおける依頼行為の研究の理論的立脚点をまとめてみた。考察の結果は四つの論点にまとめられる。（１）異文化コミュニケーションの研究では、発話者と聞き手の能力や態度、権利、義務などに関する語用論上の条件を当然のものとして受け止めず、意識的に分析することによってまず依頼に関する異文化間の類似点と相違点が明らかになる。（２）依頼行為の最も基本的な誤用論的特徴はその直接性と間接性にある。（３）依頼表現を直接－間接という連続体の上で捉えることによって、顕著な依頼表現の特徴を見出すことができる。このようにして明らかにされた依頼表現の誤用論的特徴は、背景にある文化特有の意味を発見し、それを的確に解釈する手がかりとなる。（４）異文化コミュニケーションで必要な依頼行為の相互調整の方法とそこから推察できる自己や対人関係の文化的な解釈には、直接－間接という連続体での駆け引きを考察することがひとつの有効な方法である。, 紀要論文

コミュニケーション学において，言語共同体独自の話しことばの意味を記述･解明することがひとつの研究テーマである。各共同休に特有の｢自己像｣や「社会」，「ことば」の意味がどのように記号化されるのか，そして文化的に定義されたこれらの意味を独自の発話形式でどのように表明するのかということが問われてきた。その一端として，ことばの民族誌や異文化接触の研究に基づき，多様な文化的シンボルの意味やコミュニケーション行動の形式と規範というものが明らかにされている。本稿では，これらの事例研究をいくつか取り上げ，比較対照することによって，話しことばによる自己表現の文化的な特徴や異文化間での類似点と相違点について考えてみる。「自己」や「社会」は文化のシンボルとして特殊な意味を帯びており，それに伴い「コミュニケーション」，「命令」，「模倣」，「自己表現」等の発話行為も特殊化され，言語共同体独自の意味を含むことになる。こうしたシンボルの意味を言語共同体独自のコミュニケーション儀式や話し方の論理の枠内で捉えると，コミュニケーション行動の一部は常に文化的行為であることがわかる。まとめとして，文化的自己に関するシンボルと発話形式，更に模範的なコミュニケーション行動を「個人」，「他者関係」，「行為」，「共同体」という四種の自己像のフレームにまとめてみた。こうしたメタアナラシスから得られる類似点と相違点が異文化接触にもたらす影響は大きい。, 紀要論文

民族誌学によるコミュニケーション研究に基づいて，本稿では言語行動にあらわれる文化的シンボルがどのような働きをするのかを考察する。特に，言語行動がどの様に社会変化もしくは文化変容を促すのか，事例研究の比較分析を通して変化構造の一端を解明することが本論の目的である。ウエスタン・アパッチ（米国）とサプラ（イスラエル）の言語行動を事例として挙げ，奥深い意味を持つ文化的シンボルが深層で複雑に相互作用する過程を詳しく調べてみた結果，言語共同体に特有な「話しことば」は社会変化あるいは文化変容の重要な媒体であることがわかった。社会の変化は言語共同体に特有なコミュニケーション行動による第一次テクストと代替テクストの相互作用や，それに基づくアイデンティティーの再認識と創出の繰り返しの中で遂行される。こうしたコミュニケーション行動の具体例としては，コードの切り替え(Code-Switching）や話しことばの儀式（Communicative Rituals）が挙げられる。従って，コードの切り替えや話しことばの儀式に注目してコミュニケーション行動を分析すれば，特定の言語共同体における話しことばの文化的意味を発見する大きな手がかりが得られることを本稿では論証する。, 紀要論文

This chapter addresses a more subtle approach that festival organizers adopted with regard to the issue of fostering a collective Uchinā identity at 2006 Worldwide Uchinānchu festival (WUF): the introduction and use of Uchināguchi term chimugukuru , loosely translated as 'spirit' or 'heart' and held to be a defining characteristic of Uchinā identity. It examines more closely the use of Uchināguchi at 2006 diaspora festival and, especially, the cultural term chimugukuru . It then draws on evidence from WUF promotional materials, local news coverage, fieldnotes taken during the festival and interviews with overseas Uchinānchu in attendance. The chapter unpacks the term from Okinawan perspective. It examines its initial use in speeches and festival theme song. The chapter argues that organizers in Okinawa attempted to use chimugukuru and discourse surrounding it to retraditionalize the festival. Finally, it discusses the overseas participants' feelings towards chimugukuru and its overall role in their Uchinā identity. 平成14年度～平成16年度科学研究費補助金(基盤研究(A)(2))研究成果報告書, 研究概要：1945年以降の沖縄の歴史は異文化接触の歴史であり、それは戦後日本でも極めて特異な歴史であった。本研究は、このような戦後沖縄におけるアメリカ文化との異文化接触により生起した現象を、国際政治、憲法、沖縄文学、アメリカ文学・文化、言語政策、コミュニケーション論、食品学、農業経済、建築学、公衆衛生の各領域において分析し、最終的には学際的な総合化をとおして異文化接触の全体像を理解することを目的として進めた。さらに、このような研究をとおして、異文化接触のメカニズムを解明し、普遍的なモデルの構築を試みつつ21世紀の国際社会における相互理解に寄与することを最終的な目標として研究を展開した。このような目的、目標を達成するために、平成14年から16年において、以下のような研究活動を推進した。 1) 特に米国公文書館をはじめとして公文書館等における文書の収集、戦後沖縄に直接に関わった沖縄及び日米の関係者に対するアンケート・聞き取り調査等を含めて、新しい知見を得るべく、実証的かつ総合的な研究を遂行した。 2) 研究分担者間の相互連携及び異文化接触に関する理論的深化をはかるために、研究組織内で研究会を開催し、同時に国内の関連分野から講師を招聘しつつ研究を進めた。 3) 平成15年度は、カリフォルニア大学デイヴィス校において、アメリカ側の研究者とともに国際シンポジウム("Symposium : Cross-Cultural Contact between the U.S. and Okinawa")を開催し、国際的な連携を図りつつ研究を推進した。 4) 以上の活動を基礎に、研究分担者がそれぞれの課題について研究報告をまとめた。, 研究概要：The history of Okinawa after 1945 can be seen in terms of cross-cultural contact between Okinawan culture and American culture, a rare and intense experience unique to Okinawa in the postwar history of Japan. In this project, phenomena born of this cultural contact were analyzed in such fields as International Relations, the Constitution, Okinawan Literature, American Literature and Culture, Linguistic Policies, Communication, Food Science, Agricultural Economics, Architecture, and Public Health. The final object of this research has been to synthesize each research and discover a mechanism of cross-cultural phenomena, thereby presenting a universal model for such phenomena now observable worldwide. This model, we hope, will eventually contribute greatly to mutual understanding in the globalizing world of the 21^ century. To render this project successful, our research involved the following activities between 2002 and 2004 : 1. We visited archives in the U.S. and Japan, such as the National Archives in Maryland, to collect documents. 2. We interviewed Americans and Japanese who were directly involved in postwar Okinawan politics. 3. We held many workshops to exchange ideas and opinions, commenting on each other's research, to develop theories on cross-culturality. We also invited lecturers from Japan and held workshops on cross-cultural contact. 4.
