12. Energy recovery from a system with double magnet. Analytical approach.

Abstract

The main goal of the research presented in this paper is to find an analytical solution for an electromagnetic energy harvester with double magnet. A double magnet configuration is defined as a structure in which two magnets, either attracting or repelling, are positioned at a constant distance from each other. Analytical dependencies that govern the shape of electromechanical coupling coefficient curves for various double magnet configurations are provided. In the subsequent step of the analysis, resonance curves for its vibrations and the corresponding recovered energy were determined for the selected dual magnet settings using the harmonic balance method. These characteristics enabled us to ascertain the optimal resistance and estimate the maximum electrical power that can be harvested from the vibrations of the double magnets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this paper the modelling of special biomechanical mechanism and application of shape memory materials are presented. The model of the human middle ear is made as multibody system. The basic 3dof ear model of the healthy middle ear is modified to represent the damaged ear. A damaged of the ossicular chainis taken into account by adding gap in visco-elastic joints. In addition, an attempt of the ossicles chain reconstruction through prosthesis made of shape memory alloy is presented. Moreover, a new description of the hysteresis sub-loop which characterise prosthesis material is proposed. Finally, dynamic responses of healthy, damaged and reconstructed models of the middle ear are compared by quality index.

Abstract

In this paper, a model of an electromagnetic system with two levitating magnets is presented. Modeling was performed using the results of experiments. The data obtained make it possible to fit the magnetic forces between two magnets using a 5th order polynomial. The time series show that dry friction constitutes an important part of damping forces. The differential equations of motion consider strong nonlinearities of magnetic and damping forces. These terms cause the nonlinear hardening effect. The energy recovered by magnetic induction is dissipated in the resistors. Numerical simulations show that resistance has an impact on magnet dynamics and energy recovery. Abstract

The main aim of the paper is study on flexural vibration reduction of a laminated cantilever beam by Macro Fiber Composite active element embedded to its surface. The numerical simulations of the system using the Finite Element Method (FEM) are performed. The Abaqus software package is applied. The time-domain analysis using the implicit method is carried out. The excitation of the system by concentrated load as a periodic force is defined. The beam response recorded by the sensor is used in the proportional control (P). In this application the MFC element is activated with a voltage signal, which is directly proportional to the measured displacement. A subroutine UAMP is prepared for implementation of the control algorithm. The resonance curves for the beam with and without control system are determined. Next, the experimental studies are performed and both results are compared. It was found that the proportional control algorithm of the MFC element can be used to change the stiffness of the thin-walled beam.

Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of hysteresis of a piezoelectric subsystem on the nonlinear beam dynamics with active vibration control. The investigated model considers geometric and inertia nonlinearities of the beam (plant), nonlinear coupling of the controller, and hysteresis of the piezoelectric actuator. The developed numerical model of the electromechanical system allows a comparison of responses given by a simplified model and a model with a complete description of the piezoelectric subsystem, including hysteresis. Obtained results provide information about the effect of hysteresis on the beam and controller dynamics. Abstract

The paper describes the dynamics of a composite cantilever beam with an active element. The vibrations of the kinematically excited beam are controlled with the use of a Macro Fiber Composite actuator. A proportional control algorithm is considered. During the analysis, actuator is powered by a time-varying voltage signal that is changed proportionally to the beam deflection. The MFC element control system with the implemented algorithm allowed for changing the stiffness of the tested structure. This is confirmed by the numerical and experimental results. The main aim of this paper is modelling the hysteresis effect in shape memory alloys. The stress versus strain relation is approximated by idealized curves. The adopted characteristics is modelled using the piecewise linear model. Transmission between individual line segments is dependent on the proposed conditions if(...). Abstract

The main aim of this paper is an experimental and numerical analysis of the dynamic behavior of an active rotor with three composite blades. The study focuses on developing an effective FE modeling technique of a macro fiber composite element (denoted as MFC or active element) for the dynamic tests of active structures. The active rotor under consideration consists of a hub with a drive shaft, three grips and three glass-epoxy laminate blades with embedded active elements. A simplified FE model of the macro fiber composite element exhibiting the d33 piezoelectric effect is developed using the Abaqus software package. The discussed transducer is modeled as quasi-homogeneous piezoelectric material, and voltage is applied to the opposite faces of the element. In this case, the effective (equivalent) piezoelectric constant d33 * is specified. Both static and dynamic tests are performed to verify the proposed model. First, static deflections of the active blade caused by the voltage signal are determined by numerical and experimental analyses. Next, a numerical modal analysis of the active rotor is performed. The eigenmodes and corresponding eigenfrequencies are determined by the Lanczos method. The influence of the model parameters (i.e., the effective piezoelectric constant d33 *, voltage signal, angular velocity) on the dynamics of the active rotor is examined. Finally, selected numerical results are validated in experimental tests. Abstract

In this paper the FE model of multi-layers composite beam with added Macro Fiber Composite (MFC) active element is presented. At the first step of study the model of the MFC element was prepared. The experimental validation was made. Next, a static deflection of the composite beam with the actuator was calculated. The piezoelectric effects was analyzed. 41. Dynamics of a Self-Balancing Double-Pendulum System

Abstract

Modeling and analysis of a system of two self-balancing pendulums is presented in this paper. Such systems are commonly used as elements of automotive door latch mechanisms that can be subjected to oscillatory excitation or vibratory inertia forces occurring during crash events. In order to avoid an unwanted behavior such as opening of the door, the considered mechanism should be properly designed and its dynamical response well understood and predictable. One pendulum of the double-pendulum system, playing the role of a counterweight (CW), is used to reduce the second (or main) pendulum motion under inertia loading. The interaction force between the pendulums is defined as the reaction of a holonomic constraint linking the rotations of both pendulums. Another reaction force acts between one of the pendulums and the support, reinforced by the action of a preloaded spring. An important aspect of the model is its discontinuous nature due to the presence of a gap in the interface area. This may result in impacts between both pendulums and between one of the pendulums and the support. High-frequency/high-acceleration amplitude vibratory motion of the base part provides inertia input to the system. Classical multibody dynamics approach is adopted first to solve the equations of motion. It is shown that the considered system under certain conditions responds with a high-amplitude irregular motion. A special methodology is used in order to study the regions of chaotic motion, with the goal to gain more understanding of the considered system dynamics. Bifurcation diagrams are presented together with quantitative and qualitative analysis of the motion. The sensitivity of solutions to variation of system parameters and input characteristics is also analyzed in the paper.
