The successful restoration of the physiognomic function of the anterior area of the dental arches requires the dentist to have advanced knowledge of the facial, dentofacial and marginal periodontal aspects and, at the same time, to master the techniques of working with adhesive materials. Composite resins are currently the materials of choice for regaining the optimal esthetic appearance in the frontal region, because they present both the ability to preserve dental tissues (through chemical adhesion to the substrate) and extensive esthetic possibilities, which give rise to a wide variety of clinical and therapeutic indications. Abstract

Breast cancer is a complex disease that can be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Several genes have been identified to be associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, including BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53, PTEN and others. These genes can be tested for mutations in order to assess an individual’s risk of developing breast cancer. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) plays a significant role in personalized breast cancer treatment by providing information on the specific proteins and biomarkers present in a patient’s tumor. This information can help guide treatment decisions and improve outcomes. Immunohistochemistry is used to determine the expression levels of several proteins, including estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). ER and PR are hormone receptors that are commonly expressed in breast cancer cells. Their expression levels are important for determining treatment options, as hormone therapy can be effective in patients whose tumors express these receptors. HER2, on the other hand, is a growth factor receptor which is overexpressed in some breast cancers. HER2-positive tumors can be treated with targeted therapy drugs such as trastuzumab. In addition to ER, PR and HER2, IHC can also be used to assess the expression of other markers in breast cancer, such as Ki-67, a marker of cellular proliferation, and cytokeratins, which are intermediate filaments found in epithelial cells. This information can help determine the aggressiveness of the tumor and the likelihood of response to certain treatments. Overall, the identification of breast cancer genes and the use of immunohistochemistry to assess protein expression levels are important tools for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Abstract

Calcium hydroxide is the most used intracanalar medicament between apointments. It shoud be properly removed before root canal filling because its remnants could compromise the sealing of root obturation. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of two type of irrigation solutions, EDTA and SmearClear in the removal of calcium hydroxide from root canals. Materials and method: twenty human single rooted teeth were prepared using ProTaper Universal instrumentation till F2, .06 taper. The canals were filled with Ca(OH)2 and after 7 days the Ca(OH)2 was removed using 3 rinses of 5 ml 15% EDTA and 5 ml 5.25% NaOCl alternately (group 1; n=10) or 3 rinses of 5 ml Smear Clear (SybronEndo) and 5 ml 5.25% NaOCl alternately (group 2; n=10). Results: On the final radiographs the best result was found in group 2 where the cleanliness of the total surface of the root canal wall when SmearClear was used obtained better results comparative to NaOCl – 15% EDTA (91.34% to 71.69%). Conclusions: under the limitation of this study, SmearClear was superior in removing Ca(OH)2 material compared to NaOCl and 15% EDTA irrigation solution.

Abstract

This article presents specific aspects regarding the role of endodontic medication in the conservative treatment in chronic apical periodontitis. Starting from the bacterial microflora, the etiological factor of the periapical lesions, we discuss about the modalities of identification by the means of in vivo and in vitro tests of the microorganisms present inside the root canal. The characteristics of these methods of microbiological evaluations, as well as their clinical relevance, are reviewed. The general characteristics of endodontic antimicrobial medication are presented, as well as the causes of endodontic failures in treatment in chronic apical periodontitis. It is underlined the essential importance of the rigorous biomechanical treatment, in association with endodontic lavage, which makes the antibacterial medication only have a subordinate role in the treatment of chronic apical lesions.

Abstract

Deep caries progress is associated with tertiary dentin formation and additional reversible or irreversible dental pulp inflammation. It seems that some particular signs of pain in irreversible pulpitis are associated to a particular caries microflora. Streptococcus species, Parvimonas micra and Dialister invisus are prevailing in cases of throbbing pain while Streptococcus mutans is incriminated in sensitivity to vertical percussion of tooth. Continuous pain is thought to be the clinical outcome of Lactobacillus implication. A better understanding of molecular signals and mechanisms induced by microbiome of deep caries that orchestrate the modulation of dental pulp complex response toward tertiary dentinogenesis or pulp inflammation it is supposed to improve diagnosis and conservative therapies of vital pulp.

Abstract

Introduction. Agenesis of the corpus callosum is the most important change in white matter in the human brain. Absence of this structure can cause delayed motor development, mental retardation, seizures, language, or comprehension difficulties, with the progressive onset of autism, schizophrenia, and attention deficit disorders. Objectives. Advances in prenatal imaging techniques have led to a significant increase in the detection rate of agenesis of corpus callosum or associate anomalies – cranial and extracranial. Through this, we can advise parents earlier and check over time the development of affected children. Materials and methods. We studied 23 cases of agenesis of corpus callosum, from which 15 of the women with this fetal diagnosis chose to give birth to 15 live newborns with this pathology, and we started to do follow up on the neurodevelopmental outcome of this children. Results. The outcome of neurological development for people with corpus callosum abnormalities is highly variable and there is often an overlap in neuropsychological performance between patients with complete agenesis and those with partial agenesis of corpus callosum. The 15 children evaluated showed a diverse evolution from normal to severe, with neuro-psychological regression found and proven over time. Conclusions. Given the unexpected shift from normal neurological, motor and cognitive functions to borderline and even severe ones, prenatal counseling regarding the prognosis of this disease is difficult.
