A summary of the historical background of the present-day Lacandon Maya is followed by an account of their worldview, with respect to the archaeological remains which are found all over their territory, and about the deities who inhabited them. Southern Lacandon beliefs about the soul and death are outlined in order to grasp the meaning of “the song of the dead person’s soul”, which tells of the different phases through which the soul passes during the process of dying, in its transition between the human world and the world of the deities. A description of Lacandon funerary rites is provided, as well as an explanation of the term used in the song to signify the body. Finally, this song is compared to “the song to a dead person”, which belongs to Northern Lacandon oral tradition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Social representations of giftedness among university students in preservice teacher Abstract This study examines the conceptions and beliefs entrenched in schools regarding giftedness, which hinder the proper educational development and attention to the diversity of these students. It focuses on the social representations present among university students in preservice teacher. The research adopts a mixed-method approach, utilizing social representations theory through prototypical word analysis, with the participation of 274 individuals. The results reveal that the word “intelligent” prevails in all social representations, while peripheral elements vary and are more related to socioemotional aspects. Academic training stands out as an important element that destabilizes the central core of the representation, offering a more holistic view of the concept. In the collective perception of the investigated group, several myths, stereotypes, and false beliefs are identified. Among them, the belief in the idea that giftedness is innate stands out. Additionally, the stereotype persists that these students always excel in performance and face difficulties in their personal and social adaptation.

The research question is the role of audiovisual narratives in the construction of myths to transcend historical events in the collective imagination. The objective is to study the case of the figure of King Juan Carlos I in the history of the democratic transition in Spain (1975-1982) as told in the television series "Cuéntame cómo pasó" (Tell me how it happened), broadcast since 2001 and with an audience of more than 7 million viewers. The qualitative methodology used consists of a bibliographic review of scientific works on "Cuéntame", myths, construction of collective memory and recent history of Spain, and the viewing and analysis of the first fourteen seasons of Cuéntame (2001-2013 - 253 episodes) using the methodological categories of Julien Greimas' actantial model of semiotics. The results show that in the first season of the series the idea that the king will lead the Spaniards towards democracy is already established, but it is in the fourteenth season that the circle is closed with his leading role in stopping the military coup d'état attempt.

The patients/clients and the skilled professionals' beliefs and expectations about hypnosis, influence the decision to use this procedure as well as its effects. On the other hand, in the Internet there is plenty of information about hypnosis, which shapes opinions of public and professionals. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the quality of the information disseminated by non-specialized online press. 334 articles (from 2011 to 2012) and 200 articles (from 2018-2019) written in Spanish and published online in non-specialized publications press have been analyzed. Results show that, although a high number of articles demystify hypnosis, many of them disseminate myths as well. The highest percentage of articles that demystify hypnosis is associated with the press topic "Science and Culture". Results indicate that myths are broadly present in the popular culture, and are maintained with the support of their ongoing dissemination in the newspapers online articles. This supports the importance of fostering the dissemination of scientific available evidence about applied and basic research on hypnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AMYOTROPHIC lateral sclerosis , *RETROSPECTIVE studies - Abstract
To evaluate the Milano-Torino staging (MiToS) and King's staging systems as potential outcome measures for clinical trials in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by assessing these outcomes in FORTITUDE-ALS. This was a post hoc analysis of the phase 2b FORTITUDE-ALS trial (NCT03160898), a double-blind, randomized, dose-ranging, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study of reldesemtiv in patients with ALS. The treatment period was 12 weeks, with a follow-up assessment at week 16. Patients were retrospectively classified into MiToS and King's stages. Outcomes were the mean time maintaining baseline stage and risk of progression from the baseline stage to a later stage. The full analysis set consisted of 456 patients randomized 3:1 (reldesemtiv n = 342, placebo n = 114) who received at least one dose of double-blind study drug and had at least one post-baseline assessment. At baseline, MiToS and King's stages were balanced between the reldesemtiv and placebo groups: >99% of patients were in MiToS stage 0 or 1 and King's stage 1, 2 or 3. Time of maintaining the baseline stage was similar in both groups, for each staging system. The two staging systems exhibited considerably disparate results for risk of progression from baseline to a later stage: hazard ratio (HR) = 0.62 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.38, 0.99) for MiToS and HR = 0.96 (95% CI 0.63, 1.44) for King's. This exploratory analysis showed the feasibility of MiToS and King's staging as potential outcome measures in ALS. Additional studies of these staging systems are needed to further explore their utility in ALS clinical trials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MYTH - Abstract
Legal positivism, as a set of theses necessarily defended or assumed by those that fly its colors, has being commonly criticized with bases in errors or myths, constituting a “straw man” of what this philosophical tradition is. In this paper, we proport to rescue the central theses of positivism, defining them by the artifact thesis and the separability thesis, with contingent presence of the source thesis and/or the conventionality thesis. With that settled, we go on to demonstrate that the idea of a “outdated” positivism, unable to account for legal principles, is false, as well as the picture of a legal positivism that implies some specific interpretative methodology, such as textualism or originalism. Through this article, we expect to clear or even recover the debate about legal positivism, specially in Brazil, reviving the theses that are really defended by this century-old philosophical tradition, distancing ourselves from the “straw man” created. Study of the Mythical, Exotic and Supernatural Characters in the Oriental Legends of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer ABSTRACT: This article aims to shed light on different crossings, interferences, interculturalities and considerable literary evolution between East and West, that was inherited from remote times creating an influence which look like a pearl necklace where the first pearl complete the next one. Spanish literature has always been inspired by traditional oriental Arabic poetry such as the Qasidah, located in the Andalusian historical past that had its roots in the pre-Islamic Arabic literature of the Jahiliya. In order for this influence to be justified, we have focused on the legends of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, from Seville author inspired by Eastern mythology, especially Arabic and Hindu that he adopted, thanks to his readings of authors such as Conde de Noroña (1760-1816). Famous with his book Asiatic Poems (1833) that opened the taste for what is exotic and for what is oriental. That romanticists like Bécquer used to feed their imaginations creating legendary, exotic, supernatural and, above all, mythical characters from Arab and Hindu mythology, creating, in this way, simultaneously a great diversity and richness of themes nourished by traditions and distant beliefs.

This article is a phenomenological-hermeneutical approach to the anthropogenic myth found in the Popol Vuh. The first section exhibits the structure and meaning of mythical discourse. The second section sheds light on the idea of man implicit in the sacred book, for which the essential features and limitations of the men of clay and wood are exposed. Finally, the analysis is underpinned by its theme: the essence and the ultimate goal of the corn man. The thesis to be demonstrated is that man is a being created by and for the gods. The methodological approach on which our research is based is derived from both Mircea Eliade's phenomenology of religion and Heidegger's fundamental ontology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
