Through advanced experimental techniques on Formula Presented single crystals, we derive a pressure-temperature phase diagram. We find that Formula Presented increases to Formula Presented K with pressure up to Formula Presented GPa followed by a decrease to Formula Presented K at 21.2 GPa. The experimental results are reproduced by theoretical calculations based on density functional theory where electron-electron interactions are treated by a static on-site Hubbard Formula Presented on Cr Formula Presented orbitals. The origin of the pressure-induced reduction of the ordering temperature is associated with a decrease in the calculated bond angle, from Formula Presented at ambient pressure to Formula Presented at 25 GPa. Above 22 GPa, experiment and theory jointly point to the idea that the ferromagnetically ordered state is destroyed, giving rise first to a complex, unknown magnetic configuration, and at sufficiently high pressures a pure antiferromagnetic configuration. This sequence of transitions in the magnetism is accompanied by a well-detected pressure-induced semiconductor-to-metal phase transition that is revealed by both high-pressure resistivity measurements and ab initio theory. ©2022 American Physical Society.

We find that T-c increases to similar to 66 K with pressure up to similar to 3 GPa followed by a decrease to similar to 10 K at 21.2 GPa. The origin of the pressure-induced reduction of the ordering temperature is associated with a decrease in the calculated bond angle, from 95 degrees at ambient pressure to similar to 85 degrees at 25 GPa. The intermetallic compound Fe1−xCoxSi has a helical magnetic order for 0.05

The monoaxial chiral magnet CrNb3S6 exhibits a chiral soliton lattice (CSL) upon application of an external magnetic field (H) perpendicular to the helical axis (c-axis). The increase in the soliton (kink) number of the CSL in the process of decreasing H accompanies soliton penetration after nucleation at the surface. Avalanche soliton nucleation occurs during the initial process of soliton nucleation. We applied dynamic strain with scores of MHz to the crystal with the crystal size along the c-axis of 10 lm from the edge of the c-axis, so that we controlled the avalanche soliton nucleation by modifying the surface barrier. The present results suggest that the acoustic wave is useful for controlling the soliton number.

The coexistence of charge density wave (CDW) and superconductivity in tantalum disulfide (2H-TaS2) at low temperature is boosted by applying hydrostatic pressures to study both vibrational and magnetic transport properties. Around P-c, we observe a superconducting dome with a maximum superconducting transition temperature T-c = 9.1 K. First-principles calculations of the electronic structure predict that, under ambient conditions, the undistorted structure is characterized by a phonon instability at finite momentum close to the experimental CDW wave vector. Upon compression, this instability is found to disappear, indicating the suppression of CDW order. The calculations reveal an electronic topological transition (ETT), which occurs before the suppression of the phonon instability, suggesting that the ETT alone is not directly causing the structural change in the system. The temperature dependence of the first vortex penetration field has been experimentally obtained by two independent methods. While a d wave and single-gap BCS prediction cannot describe the lower critical field H-c1 data, the temperature dependence of the H-c1 can be well described by a single-gap anisotropic s-wave order parameter.

The spin ice materials Ho2Ti2O7 and Dy2Ti2O7 are experimental and theoretical exemplars of highly frustrated magnetic materials. However, the effects of applied uniaxial pressure are not well studied, and here we report magnetization measurements of Ho2Ti2O7 under uniaxial pressure applied in the [001], [111], and [110] crystalline directions. The basic features are captured by an extension of the dipolar spin ice model. We find a good match between our model and measurements with pressures applied along two of the three directions, and we extend the framework to discuss the influence of crystal misalignment for the third direction. The parameters determined from the magnetization measurements reproduce neutron scattering measurements that we perform under uniaxial pressure applied along the [110] crystalline direction. In the detailed analysis, we include the recently verified susceptibility dependence of the demagnetizing factor. Our work demonstrates the application of a moderate applied pressure to modify the magnetic interaction parameters. The knowledge can be used to predict critical pressures needed to induce new phases and transitions in frustrated materials, and in the case of Ho2Ti2O7 we expect a transition to a ferromagnetic ground state for uniaxial pressures above 3.3 GPa., QC 20201127

type:Journal Article, The ferromagnetic state of the spin-polarized ferromagnet La1−xSrxMnO3 is stabilized in the metallic region by strong coupling between localized spins in the t2g orbital and conduction electrons in the eg orbital. We prepared polycrystalline La1−xSrxMnO3 films (x = 0.15, 0.25, or 0.30) by deposition on an oxidized Si substrate. The three types of La1−xSrxMnO3 films were in the ferromagnetic rhombohedral phase, and their Curie temperatures, TC, evaluated from the midpoint of ac magnetization, were 305 K, 335 K, and 338 K, respectively. By applying expansion-mode acoustic vibration to the crystal structure of La1−xSrxMnO3, we observed a remarkable decrease (as large as 70 K) in TC. The applied structural perturbation causes a decrease in the possibility of conduction electron hopping and an increase in the Jahn–Teller distortion.
