Abstract

This research intends to investigate the effects of a new intraoral device, VomPress, combined with a Right Angle Maxillary Protraction Appliance (RAMPA) extraoral device on the treatment of maxillary hypoplasia. To this end, finite element (FE) method has been employed and a skull model, including all sutures, has been investigated. In addition, the effects of VomPress combined with RAMPA on a seven-year-old girl with the malocclusion and other side problems were monitored. The results of both FE simulations and the clinical data revealed that VomPress combined with RAMPA effectively improved the malocclusion and straight neck problem by creating more space in the patient's mouth and anterosuperior protraction effects. Abstract

Prognosis of carcinoma is variable and can not be predected from the initial clinical finding. In some cases it recovers permanently while in others it has recurrence, although the clinical findings themselves are quite the same at the beginning of the treatment. In some cases it prognosis rapidly to death in a very short period of time while in others it takes rather a mild course. Thus it is likely that there is a difference in degree of malignancy of carcinoma of the cervix. Regarding the histological grading of malignancy of cervical carcinoma much has been written up to the present, but it is not clear whether or not this grading will correspond with clinical prognosis. Under such circumstances it is note worthy that professor IMAI of the Department of Patholology, University of Kyushu, suggested a new classification of carcinoma in 1949. 9. Carcinomatous infiltration into the uterine body in carcinoma of the uterine cervix

Abstract

This report deals with the infiltration of the uterine body by carcinoma of the uterine cervix in 162 surgically treated cases. 1.1. Infiltration of the uterine body was found in 42 cases (25.9 per cent) out of 162, and its incidence parallel the stage.2.2. Infiltration showed a higher incidence in the group beyond 51 years of age, in cases with a long lapse before treatment, when the carcinoma was of the endophytic type, and in the presence of parametrial infiltration and lymph node metastases.3.3. The prognosis was unfavorable in cases with involvement of the corpus uteri and the 5 year cure rate was unfavorable in proportion to the height of infiltration, and also in proportion to the distance of infiltration outward from the uterine cavity.

Abstract

Objective: The underlying etiology of Class III malocclusion may be associated with cranial base morphology. The aim of this study is to test the efficacy of a Right-Angled Maxillary Protraction Appliance (RAMPA) System in Asian subjects with Class III malocclusions., Materials and Methods: 27 homologous landmarks were digitized from lateral cephalographs for 10 pre-pubertal Japanese children (mean age 95 months) with skeletal Class III malocclusion prior to and after RAMPA treatment. The mean, pre- and post-treatment craniofacial configurations were computed using Procrustes superimposition, and subjected to principal components analysis (PCA), and finite-element analysis (FEA)., Results: The mean treatment time was 22.5 months. All patients showed significant craniofacial change with correction of anterior and/or posterior crossbite. The mean, pre- and post-treatment craniofacial configurations were statistically different when tested using PCA (p < 0.001), with the first two principal components accounting for 97% of the total shape change. Using FEA, the anterior cranial base showed a relative 12-32% increase in size. The midfacial and mandibular regions, as well as the oropharyngeal airway showed large relative size-changes., Conclusion: This study suggests that the anterior cranial base may be targeted in the correction Class III malocclusions.
