This project is to investigate the counter electrode material from two different carbon sources to fabricate dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC). The carbon sources are extracted from battery and pencil lead. The method to prepare the DSSC is through the conventional Dr.Blading method. The same method is also used for the counter electrode which uses carbon from recycle batteries, the carbon from pencil lead are scribbled onto the ITO glass to get a uniform coating. Both thickness of the counter electrode vary accordingly. The solar cells are then placed under outdoor solar irradiation and the output is taken every 10 minutes. Based on observation, the solar cells which have the carbon from batteries shows higher cell efficiency which is 8.2 % with lower FF of 0.78, compared to by using the pencil lead, the cell efficiency is only 7.23% but with a higher FF of 0.93. more...

Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) is another kind of solar cell from the third generation that forms a photovoltaic. DSSC is designed to reduce cost from usage of expensive material in conventional solar panels. The purpose of this project is to fabricate and compare dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) by using organic dye from blueberry and blue dye from chemical substances. The DSSC is fabricated using ‘Doctor Blade’ method. Results are based on investigating the electrical performance and characteristic of the fabricated TiO2 solar cell based on these comparisons of dyes in order to investigate the potential of organic dyes as a light absorbing mechanism. The required data that is investigated are the open circuit voltage, Voc, short circuit current, Isc, fill factors, solar cells efficiency and UV absorption. This paper presents a review on Malaysia and Thailand’s view on renewable energy mainly in the area of solar energy. It is based on a survey conducted on random subjects in Malaysia raging from different discipline such as those from RE and non RE industries, and several learning Institution. The survey was conducted on random subject as to create a variance on their given answers. A total of 6,450 Malaysian have answered the survey which is then analyzed and compared with the views and current RE scenario in Thailand. The data analysis for Thailand is obtained from literature review. Based on the analysis, one could conclude that both Malaysia and Thailand are on the same objective which is to expand and cultivate their RE sources and has adapt an alternative method to sustain their energy development. more...
