We propose shortcut to adiabaticity protocols for Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in generalized anisotropic harmonic traps in three dimensions. These protocols enable high-fidelity tuning of trap geometries on time scales much faster than those required for adiabatic processes and are robust across a wide range of interaction strengths, from weakly interacting regimes to the Thomas-Fermi limit. Using the same approach, we also design STA paths to rapidly drive interaction strengths in both isotropic and anisotropic traps. Comparisons with standard linear ramps of system parameters demonstrate significant improvements in performance. Finally, we apply these STA techniques to a unitary engine cycle with a BEC as the working medium. Gases of doubly-dipolar particles, with both magnetic and electric dipole moments, offer intriguing novel possibilities. We show that the interplay between doubly-dipolar interactions, quantum stabilization, and external confinement results in a rich ground-state physics of supersolids and incoherent droplet arrays in doubly-dipolar condensates. Our study reveals novel possibilities for engineering quantum droplets and droplet supersolids, including supersolid-supersolid transitions and the realization of supersolid arrays of pancake droplets., Comment: 8 pages, 11 figures

Although crystallization is a ubiquitous phenomenon in nature, crystal formation and melting still remain fascinating processes with several open questions yet to be addressed. In this work, we study the emergent crystallization of a laser-driven dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate due to the interplay between long-range magnetic and effectively infinite-range light-induced interactions. The competition between these two interactions results in a collective excitation spectrum with two roton minima that introduce two different length scales at which crystalline order can emerge. In addition to the formation of regular crystals with simple periodic patterns due to the softening of one of the rotons, we find that both rotons can also soften simultaneously, resulting in the formation of exotic, complex periodic or aperiodic density patterns. We analyze the physics of self-bound droplets in a doubly dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate (DDBEC) composed by particles with both electric and magnetic dipole moments. Using the particularly relevant case of dysprosium, we show that the anisotropy of the doubly-dipolar interaction potential is highly versatile and nontrivial, depending critically on the relative orientation and strength between the two dipole moments. This opens novel possibilities for exploring intriguing quantum many-body physics. Interestingly, by varying the angle between the two dipoles we find a dimensional crossover from quasi one-dimensional to quasi two-dimensional self-bound droplets. Recent experiments have revealed that beyond-mean-field corrections are much more relevant in weakly-interacting dipolar condensates than in their non-dipolar counterparts. We show that in quasi-one-dimensional geometries quantum corrections in dipolar and non-dipolar condensates are strikingly different due to the peculiar momentum dependence of the dipolar interactions. The energy correction of the condensate presents not only a modified density dependence, but it may even change from attractive to repulsive at a critical density due to the surprising role played by the transversal directions. The anomalous quantum correction translates into a strongly modified physics for quantum-stabilized droplets and dipolar solitons. Moreover, and for similar reasons, quantum corrections of three-body correlations, and hence of three-body losses, are strongly modified by the dipolar interactions. The effect of dipolar orientation with respect to the condensate plane on the mean-field dynamics of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates in a pancake-shaped confinement is discussed. The stability of a quasi-two-dimensional condensate, with respect to the tilting angle, is found to be different from a two-dimensional layer of dipoles, indicating the relevance of the transverse extension while characterizing two-dimensional dipolar systems. An anisotropic excitation spectrum exhibiting a highly tunable, rotonlike minimum can arise entirely from the dipole-dipole interactions, by tilting the dipoles. At the magic angle and in the absence of contact interactions, the long-wavelength excitations are not phononlike and always unstable. The post-roton-instability dynamics, in contrast to phonon instability, in a uniform condensate, is featured by a transient, defect-free, stripe pattern, which eventually undergoes local collapses, and driving the condensate back into the stable regime can make them sustained for longer. Hopping between stripes has been observed before it melts into a uniform state in the presence of dissipation. Finally, we discuss a class of solutions, in which a quasi-two-dimensional condensate is self-trapped in one direction, as well as a regime of interaction parameters, including attractive short-range interactions, at which a two-dimensional anisotropic soliton can be stabilized, and we show that a chromium condensate with a relatively small number of atoms is well suited for this., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

The effect of dipolar orientation with respect to the soliton plane on the physics of two-dimensional bright solitons in dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates is discussed. Previous studies on such a soliton involved dipoles either perpendicular or parallel to the condensate-plane. The tilting angle constitutes an additional tuning parameter, which help us to control the in-plane anisotropy of the soliton as well as provides access to previously disregarded regimes of interaction parameters for soliton stability. In addition, it can be used to drive the condensate into phonon instability without changing its interaction parameters or trap geometry. The phonon-instability in a homogeneous 2D condensate of tilted dipoles always features a transient stripe pattern, which eventually breaks into a metastable soliton gas. Finally, we demonstrate how a dipolar BEC in a shallow trap can eventually be turned into a self-trapped matter wave by an adiabatic approach, involving the tuning of tilting angle., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures
