Two new ferrocene acetals were synthesized from a chiral diol in toluene and characterized by a range of spectroscopic techniques. The biological activities of the products were evaluated by using the breast adenocarcinoma cell lines T47D, MCF7, ZR-75-1, MD-MB-468, and MD-MB-231. In comparison with tamoxifen, the ferrocene acetals showed moderate anticancer activity in vitro for the T47D and MCF7 cell lines.

Gold surfaces have been modified by self-assembled techniques. Here the adsorption time of diasteroisomers (1 R , 3 S )-1-ferrocenyl-3-methyl-4,4-diphenyl-2,5-dioxacyclopentane and (1 S , 3 S )-1-ferrocenyl-3-methyl-4,4-diphenyl-2,5-dioxacyclopentane ( Scheme 1 , 3a and 3b ) at a Au surface in ethanol solution was controlled. This study was followed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. The method used for the surface modification was the control of exposure time of a Au surface in the modifier/ethanol solution. It was demonstrated by EIS and XPS that the Au surface was modified with mixture of compounds 3a + 3b , avoiding the electron transference in the interface. It was also observed that the organometallic molecule indeed had been adsorbed on the Au surface. In addition, evidence seems to conclude that the molecule-Au interaction is through the electrons of cyclopentadienyl moiety, where the oxygen atoms are near the air-molecule interface and the iron atom is near the Au surface. This type of interaction of the ferrocene derivatives with gold surfaces has not been reported by any other author.

The chloroplatinic acid-catalysed hydrosilylations of phenylacetylene, l-heptyne, and l-octyne by ( η 5 - C 5 H 5 )Fe(CO) 2 SiPh 2 H (I), Ph 2 MeSiH and PhMe 2 SiH have been studied in the presence of CO. The results indicate that the normally high levels of trans -β-addition products formed in the absence of CO are dramatically reduced in favour of the α-addition products.

Treatment of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde with base at 0°C, lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) or n-butyllithium, followed by the addition of trimethylsilylcyanide, produced 1-(diisopropylamino)cyanomethylferrocene, FcCH(N{iPr}2(CN) (II) or 1-trimethyl-siloxy-n-pentylferrocene, FcCH(nBu)OSiMe3 (IIIa). The reaction of naphthaldehyde, NpCHO, with LDA/Me3SiCN led to formation of 1-(diisopropylamino)cyanomethylnaphthalene, NpCH{N(iPr)2}(CN) suggesting a general new synthesis for cyanoamines. The reaction of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde with Me3SiCN led to the expected silylether FcCH(CN)OSiMe3 (I). An alternative synthesis of ferrocenylmethylsilylethers, FcCH2OSiR3 (IV), involved the reaction of 1-ferrocenylmethanol with R3SiCl in the presence of pyridine. The basicity of the new silylethers III and IV is reported.

Acylsilanes react with lithium α-silyl ester enolates to provide β-silyl-α,β-unsaturated esters having predominantly the (Z) geometry. These esters were reacted with Grignard reagents and with lithium aluminum hydride to give the corresponding (Z) 3-silyl allyl alcohols.
