We give a brief review of the most important results on inclusive processes and the relativistic theory of gravity obtained by A. A. Logunov.

We show that under gravitational contraction of a spherical body, its internal energy increases infinitely as the body radius approaches GM/c 2 , which leads to a negative mass defect and unavoidably to an explosion process with ejection of part of the body mass because the spherical compression is unstable. This conclusion follows exactly from the general theory of relativity in harmonic coordinates.

The metric of a neutral stationary “black hole” does not satisfy the causality conditions formulated by Hilbert. As a consequence, a trial body falling freely, for instance, into a rotating “black hole” develops a speed equal to the speed of light on the ergosphere shell during a finite time in the reference frame of a distant observer, which results in physical inconsistency and indicates the principal drawback of the vacuum solution of Einstein’s equation outside a source.

We show that according to the relativistic theory of gravity, a dust ball pulsates in time in the absence of dissipation. Hence, collapse is impossible.

In the framework of the relativistic theory of gravity, we establish the absence of gravitational radiation from a nonstatic spherically symmetric source.

It is shown that, in the framework of Relativistic Theory of Gravitation with massive graviton, gravitational waves, due to the causality condition, do not bear negative energy flows.

We show that if we regard the gravitational field as a physical field evolving in the Minkowski space, then a massive dust ball whose mass exceeds three solar masses, in contrast to the conclusions of general relativity, does not collapse under its own gravitation but pulsates in time in the absence of dissipation.

It is shown that according to the relativistic theory of gravity, the gravitational field slows down the rate of time flow but stops doing so when the field is strong, thus displaying its tendency toward self-limitation of the gravitational potential. This property of the gravitational field prevents massive bodies from collapsing and allows a homogeneous isotropic universe to evolve cyclically.

We shown that the internal Schwarzschild-type solution in the field theory of gravity does not lead to infinite pressure inside the body as is the case in general relativity. This occurs as a result of the graviton rest mass because the time-dilation process terminates.

We demontrate that in the relativistic theory of gravity, the time dilation in comparison with the inertial time results in repulsive forces that remove the cosmological singularity in the evolution of a homogeneous, isotropic Universe and stop the collapse of a large mass.

In the relativistic theory of gravity, we analyze the solution for a static spherically symmetrical body in detail. Comparing this solution with the Schwarzschild solution in general relativity, we find that they are essentially different in the domain near the Schwarzschild sphere. This difference eliminates the possibility of a collapse leading to the formation of “black holes.”

It is shown that the gravitational field, as a physical field developing in the Minkowsky space, does not lead to unlimited gravitational collapse of massive bodies and, hence, excludes a possibility of the formation of the ``black holes''.

It is shown that there exists, in the field theory of gravitation, contrary to the General Theory of Relativity (GTR), a bound for admissible time slowing down by the gravitational field which excludes a possibility of unbounded compression of matter by the gravity forces.

This article discusses the hypothesis that the universally conserved stress-energy tensor of matter is the source of the gravitational field. From this hypothesis, it immediately follows that space-time must be Riemannian. In contrast to the general theory of relativity, in the gravitational theory based on this hypothesis, the concept of an inertial coordinate system, acceleration relative to space, and the laws of conservation of the energy and angular momenta are retained. In the framework of this theory, the gravitational field is a physical field. The theory explains all observable facts of the solar system, predicts the existence of a large hidden mass of matter in a homogeneous and isotropic universe, and assumes that such a universe can only be “flat.” The theory changes the established idea of the collapse of large massive bodies.

Early formulations of the equivalence principle (EP) [1–3, 6] are discussed and a critical analysis of them is given. It is shown that the main conclusions of papers [3, 5] are erroneous. The formulation of EP is presented as given by A Einstein in 1933 [9]. It is this formulation of EP that underlies the general theory of relativity (GTR).

For the example of the motion of an accelerated charge it is shown that an inertial frame of reference in which there is a homogeneous static gravitational field with strength g is physically inequivalent to a uniformly accelerated frame of reference moving with acceleration-g with respect to the inertial frame of reference. It follows from this that the equivalence principle does not hold in the usual formulation. The widely held opinion that such a principle is the basis of the general theory of relativity is not entirely correct. Einstein's theory of gravitation is based on an equivalence principle of a deeper content, which takes the form that the metric fieldgμν of a Riemannian space is declared to be a gravitational field. Such is the “natural formulation of the equivalence principle” at which Einstein subsequently arrived.

Analysis of the general theory of relativity shows that adoption of its concept leads, first, to the abandonment of conservation laws for energy, momentum, and angular momentum of the matter and gravitational field taken together and, second, to abandonment of the notion of the gravitational field as a classical field of Faraday-Maxwell type possessing energy-momentum density. But in neither the macroscopic nor the microscopic world is there a single experimental indication that directly or indirectly casts doubt on the validity of the matter conservation laws, and therefore there are no physical grounds for abandoning these laws. It is true that occasionally one does encounter in the literature remarkable assertions [I] to the effect that there are conservation laws in general relativity reflecting the symmetry of a background Minkowski spacetime and that one can introduce an energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational field. That such an assertion is false is already obvious from the fact that the field equations of general relativity in principle do not contain a background Minkowski spacetime, so that there can be no talk of a 10parameter group of motions of spacetime, and therefore there cannot exist in general relativity conservation laws for the energy, momentum, and angular momentum of the matter and the gravitational field, and it is also impossible to introduce the concept of an energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational field. All this is now obvious and has been considered in sufficient detail in our monograph [2], which gives references to original studies.

In the present paper a relativistic theory of gravitation (RTG) is unambiguously constructed on the basis of the special relativity and geometrization principle. In this a gravitational field is treated as the Faraday--Maxwell spin-2 and spin-0 physical field possessing energy and momentum. The source of a gravitational field is the total conserved energy-momentum tensor of matter and of a gravitational field in Minkowski space. In the RTG the conservation laws are strictly fulfilled for the energy-moment and for the angular momentum of matter and a gravitational field. The theory explains the whole available set of experiments on gravity. By virtue of the geometrization principle, the Riemannian space in our theory is of field origin, since it appears as an effective force space due to the action of a gravitational field on matter. The RTG leads to an exceptionally strong prediction: The universe is not closed but just ''flat.'' This suggests that in the universe a ''missing mass'' should exist in a form of matter.

A brief critical analysis of the general theory of relativity shows that its adoption leads to the abandonment of a number of fundamental principles underlying physics. A relativistic theory of gravitation is constructed. In it the gravitational field possesses all the attributes of physical fields, and the theory agrees completely with the fundamental physical principles and also the available experimental and observational facts. The consequences of the relativistic theory of gravitation, including, in particular, the development of collapse and the evolution of the universe, are considered.

A homogeneous and isotropic universe (Friedmann universe) is studied in the framework of the relativistic theory of gravitation under the assumption that the graviton has a nonzero rest mass. This fundamentally changes the evolution of the Friedmann universe, which becomes oscillatory; there is an infinite time and, very importantly, the matter density is always finite and nonzero.
