6 pags., 4 figs., 2 tabs., The change of the shell structure in atomic nuclei, so-called “nuclear shell evolution”, occurs due to changes of major configurations through particle-hole excitations inside one nucleus, as well as due to variation of the number of constituent protons or neutrons. We have investigated how the shell evolution affects Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions that dominate the β decay in the region below 132Sn using the newly obtained experimental data on a long-lived isomer in 127Ag. The T1/2=67.5(9) ms isomer has been identified with a spin and parity of (27/2+) at an excitation energy of 1942−20+14 keV, and found to decay via an internal transition of an E3 character, which competes with the dominant β-decay branches towards the high-spin states in 127Cd. The underlying mechanism of a strong GT transition from the 127Ag isomer is discussed in terms of configuration-dependent optimization of the effective single-particle energies in the framework of a shell-model approach., Part of the WAS3ABi was supported by the Rare Isotope Science Project which is funded by MSIP and NRF of Korea. Improving the long-term stability of perovskite solar cells is critical to the deployment of this technology. Despite the great emphasis laid on stability-related investigations, publications lack consistency in experimental procedures and parameters reported. It is therefore challenging to reproduce and compare results and thereby develop a deep understanding of degradation mechanisms. Here, we report a consensus between researchers in the field on procedures for testing perovskite solar cell stability, which are based on the International Summit on Organic Photovoltaic Stability (ISOS) protocols. We propose additional procedures to account for properties specific to PSCs such as ion redistribution under electric fields, reversible degradation and to distinguish ambient-induced degradation from other stress factors. These protocols are not intended as a replacement of the existing qualification standards, but rather they aim to unify the stability assessment and to understand failure modes. The mechanisms producing fast variability of the γ-ray emission in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are under debate. The MAGIC telescopes detected a fast, very-high-energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) γ-ray flare from BL Lacertae on 2015 June 15. The flare had a maximum flux of (1.5 ± 0.3) × 10-10 photons cm-2 s-1 and halving time of 26 ± 8 min. The MAGIC observations were triggered by a high state in the optical and high-energy (HE, E > 100 MeV) γ-ray bands. In this paper we present the MAGIC VHE γ-ray data together with multi-wavelength data from radio, optical, X-rays, and HE γ rays from 2015 May 1 to July 31. Well-sampled multi-wavelength data allow us to study the variability in detail and compare it to the other epochs when fast, VHE γ-ray flares have been detected from this source. Interestingly, we find that the behaviour in radio, optical, X-rays, and HE γ-rays is very similar to two other observed VHE γ-ray flares. In particular, also during this flare there was an indication of rotation of the optical polarization angle and of activity at the 43 GHz core. These repeating patterns indicate a connection between the three events. We also test modelling of the spectral energy distribution based on constraints from the light curves and VLBA observations, with two different geometrical setups of two-zone inverse Compton models. In addition we model the γ-ray data with the star-jet interaction model. 6 pags., 5 figs., The β-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich Ag123,125 isotopes is investigated at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of RIKEN, and the long-predicted 1/2- β-emitting isomers in Ag123,125 are identified for the first time. With the new experimental results, the systematic trend of energy spacing between the lowest 9/2+ and 1/2- levels is extended in Ag isotopes up to N=78, providing a clear signal for the reduction of the Z=40 subshell gap in Ag towards N=82. Shell-model calculations with the state-of-the-art VMU plus M3Y spin-orbit interaction give a satisfactory description of the low-lying states in Ag123,125. The tensor force is found to play a crucial role in the evolution of the size of the Z=40 subshell gap. [Purpose of Review] Atmospheric blocking events represent some of the most high-impact weather patterns in the mid-latitudes, yet they have often been a cause for concern in future climate projections. There has been low confidence in predicted future changes in blocking, despite relatively good agreement between climate models on a decline in blocking. This is due to the lack of a comprehensive theory of blocking and a pervasive underestimation of blocking occurrence by models. This paper reviews the state of knowledge regarding blocking under climate change, with the aim of providing an overview for those working in related fields., [Recent Findings] Several avenues have been identified by which blocking can be improved in numerical models, though a fully reliable simulation remains elusive (at least, beyond a few days lead time). Models are therefore starting to provide some useful information on how blocking and its impacts may change in the future, although deeper understanding of the processes at play will be needed to increase confidence in model projections. There are still major uncertainties regarding the processes most important to the onset, maintenance and decay of blocking and advances in our understanding of atmospheric dynamics, for example in the role of diabatic processes, continue to inform the modelling and prediction efforts., [Summary] The term ‘blocking’ covers a diverse array of synoptic patterns, and hence a bewildering range of indices has been developed to identify events. Results are hence not considered fully trustworthy until they have been found using several different methods. Examples of such robust results are the underestimation of blocking by models, and an overall decline in future occurrence, albeit with a complex regional and seasonal variation. In contrast, hemispheric trends in blocking over the recent historical period are not supported by different methods, and natural variability will likely dominate regional variations over the next few decades., TW was supported by UK NERC grant NE/N01815X. The transformation from a disordered into an ordered version of the zeolite natrolite occurs on prolonged heating of this material in the crystallizing medium, but not if the mother liquor is replaced by water or an alkaline solution. This process occurs for both aluminosilicate and gallosilicate analogues of natrolite. In cross experiments, the disordered Al-containing (or Ga-containing) analogue is heated while in contact with the mother liquor of the opposite analogue, that is, the Ga-containing (or Al-containing) liquor. Therefore, strong evidence for the mechanism of the ordering process was obtained, which was thus proposed to proceed by intraframework migration of tetrahedral atoms without diffusion along the pores. Migration is first triggered, then fuelled by surface rearrangement through reactions with the mother liquor, and stops when an almost fully ordered state is attained. In this work we present friction-force microscopy (FFM) lattice-resolved images acquired on the (100) facet of the semiconductor organic oligomer ( 2 Z , 2 ′ Z ) − 3 , 3 ′ -(1,4-phenylene)bis(2-(4-butoxyphenyl)acrylonitrile) ( β -DBDCS) crystal in water at room temperature. Stick-slip contrast, lateral contact stiffness, and friction forces are found to depend strongly on the sliding direction due to the anisotropic packing of the molecular chains forming the crystal surface along the [010] and [001] directions. The anisotropy also causes the maximum value of the normal force applicable before wearing to increase by a factor of 3 when the scan is performed along the [001] direction on the (100) face. In present investigation, we have prepared a nanocomposites of highly porous MnO2 spongy balls and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in thin film form and tested in novel redox-active electrolyte (K3[Fe(CN)6] doped aqueous Na2SO4) for supercapacitor application. Briefly, MWCNTs were deposited on stainless steel substrate by ¿dip and dry¿ method followed by electrodeposition of MnO2 spongy balls. Further, the supercapacitive properties of these hybrid thin films were evaluated in hybrid electrolyte ((K3[Fe(CN)6 doped aqueous Na2SO4). Thus, this is the first proof-of-design where redox-active electrolyte is applied to MWCNTs/MnO2 hybrid thin films. Impressively, the MWCNTs/MnO2 hybrid film showed a significant improvement in electrochemical performance with maximum specific capacitance of 1012Fg−1 at 2 mA cm−2 current density in redox-active electrolyte, which is 1.5-fold higher than that of conventional electrolyte (Na2SO4). Further, asymmetric capacitor based on MWCNTs/MnO2 hybrid film as positive and Fe2O3 thin film as negative electrode was fabricated and tested in redox-active electrolytes. Strikingly, MWCNTs/MnO2//Fe2O3 asymmetric cell showed an excellent supercapacitive performance with maximum specific capacitance of 226 Fg−1 and specific energy of 54.39 Wh kg−1 at specific power of 667 Wkg−1. This article is part of the themed collection: 2015 Journal of Materials Chemistry A Hot Papers, We have synthesized an aluminosilicate RTH-type zeolite with Si/Al = 10 using 1,2,3-trimethylimidazolium (123TMI+) as an organic structure-directing agent (OSDA) together with Na+ or K+ in hydroxide media and without the use of seed crystals. The zeolite obtained is characterized by a cuboid morphology made of very small ill-defined crystallites, largely different from the plank-like morphology typically observed for RTH-type zeolite crystals thus far. More interestingly, we show experimental evidence demonstrating that two 123TMI+ ions are located within each [46586484] cavity of the RTH framework, forming antiparallel dimers, as found by Rietveld refinement. When hydrothermally aged at 1023 K, Cu-RTH is much less active for NO reduction with NH3 than Cu-SSZ-13, the best catalyst known for this reaction to date. However, while the CO2 uptake (3.2 mmol g−1) on Na-RTH at 298 K and 1.0 bar is lower than that (4.5 mmol g−1) on zeolite Na-Rho, a well-studied small-pore zeolite that selectively adsorbs CO2, it exhibits much faster CO2 sorption kinetics. We investigate the linear thermoelectric response of an interacting quantum dot side-coupled by one of two Majorana modes hosted by a topological superconducting wire. We employ the numerical renormalization group technique to obtain the thermoelectrical conductance L in the Kondo regime while the background temperature T, the Majorana-dot coupling Γ m , and the overlap ε m between the two Majorana modes are tuned. We distinguish two transport regimes in which L displays different features: the weak- (Γ m T K ) regimes, where T K is the Kondo temperature. We consider spin-polarized transport in a quantum spin Hall antidot system coupled to normal leads. Due to the helical nature of the conducting edge states, the screening potential at the dot region becomes spin dependent without external magnetic fields nor ferromagnetic contacts. Therefore, the electric current due to voltage or temperature differences becomes spin polarized, its degree of polarization being tuned with the dot level position or the base temperature. This spin-filter effect arises in the nonlinear transport regime only and has a purely interaction origin. Likewise, we find a spin polarization of the heat current, which is asymmetric with respect to the bias direction. Interestingly, our results show that a pure spin current can be generated by thermoelectric means: when a temperature gradient is applied, the created thermovoltage (Seebeck effect) induces a spin-polarized current for vanishingly small charge current. Natrolite (framework type NAT) is a naturally occurring zeolite with an ideal chemical composition (Na16(H2O)16) [Al16Si24O80] and a two-dimensional pore system consisting of 8-ring (2.6 × 3.9 Å) channels intersected by 9-ring (2.5 × 4.1 Å) channels.(1) This small-pore material is characterized by a completely ordered distribution of Si and Al over the three crystallographically distinct T-sites in Fdd2 (orthorhombic) symmetry with a high degree of framework flexibility.(2) Among the members of the natrolite family of zeolites, in addition, tetranatrolite, which has a similar chemical composition to that of natrolite, shows a complete disorder over the two T-sites in I42d (tetragonal) symmetry.(3) This family of zeolites is reported to be potentially useful for the selective separation of the smallest gases like H2 and He,(4) as well as of highly radioactive actinides.(5) Despite its relative abundance in nature, however, natrolite has been found very difficult to crystallize under laboratory conditions. We propose a two-terminal spin-orbit interferometer with a hot molecule inserted in one of its arms to generate pure spin currents. Local heating is achieved by coupling the vibrational modes of the molecule to a third (phononic) reservoir. We show that this spin caloritronic effect is due to the combined influence of spin-dependent wave interference and inelastic scattering. Remarkably, the device converts heat flow into spin-polarized current even without applying any voltage or temperature difference to the electronic terminals. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC., The authors acknowledge the support from MECD under Grant Nos. Nonlinear transport coefficients do not obey, in general, reciprocity relations. We here discuss the magnetic-field asymmetries that arise in thermoelectric and heat transport of mesoscopic systems. Based on a scattering theory of weakly nonlinear transport, we analyze the leading-order symmetry parameters in terms of the screening potential response to either voltage or temperature shifts. We apply our general results to a quantum Hall antidot system. This includes weathering, evolution of soils, and transport, sorting, and deposition, as well as with the location of first-order geomorphological demarcations identified as possible paleoocean boundaries. The element abundances occur in patterns consistent with weathering in situ and possible presence of relict or exhumed paleosols, deposition of weathered materials (salts and clastic minerals), and eathering/transport under neutral to acidic brines. The abundances are explained by hydrogeology consistent with the possibly overlapping alternatives of paleooceans and/or heterogeneous rock compositions from diverse provenances (e.g, differing igneous compositions)., We are grateful to the Gamma Ray Spectrometer Team whose diligent efforts have yielded tremendous fruit.
