The physical characteristics of supramolecular assemblies composed of small building blocks are dictated by molecular packing patterns in the solid-state. Yet, the structure-property correlation is still not fully understood. Herein, we report the unexpected cofacial to herringbone stacking transformation of a small aromatic bipyridine through co-assembly with acetylated glutamic acid. The unique solid-state structural transformation results in enhanced physical properties of the supramolecular organizations. The co-assembly methodology was further expanded to obtain diverse molecular packings by different bipyridine and acetylated amino acid derivatives. This study presents a feasible co-assembly approach to achieve the solid-state stacking transformation of supramolecular organization and opens up new opportunities to further explore the relationship between molecular arrangement and properties of supramolecular assemblies by crystal engineering.

Herein, unexpected stacking transformation from H- to J- and X-aggregation is observed in the crystal structure of a small heterocyclic molecule, 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-Bpy), upon coassembly with N-acetyl-l-alanine (AcA), a nonaromatic amino acid derivative. This structural transformation into hybrid stacking mode improves physicochemical properties of the cocrystals, including a large red-shifted emission, enhanced supramolecular chirality, improved thermal stability, and higher mechanical properties. While a single crystal of 4,4'-Bpy shows good optical waveguiding and piezoelectric properties due to the uniform elongated needles and low symmetry of crystal packing, the significantly lower band gap and resistance of the cocrystal indicate improved conductivity. This study not only demonstrates cocrystallization-induced packing transformation between H-, J-, and X-aggregations in the solid state, leading to tunable mechanical and optoelectronic properties, but also will inspire future molecular design of organic functional materials by the coassembly strategy. It is highly desirable to provide extra functionality for p-n junction to bypass the limits to Moore’s law. By combining magnetoelectric and photovoltaic effects of p-n junctions, we demonstrate a novel light-induced magnetoresistance (MR) effect, that the photovoltage in the conventional p-n junction can be significantly tuned by magnetic field. In contrast to the symmetric MR driven by external electric field, light-induced MR presents an asymmetric behavior at positive and negative magnetic induction. Theoretical fits using photovoltaic transport equations further reveal that the asymmetric MR induced by light directly reflects the asymmetric geometric of the space-charge region in p-n junction under the magnetic induction. The results not only further confirm our MR model of p-n junction, but also provide a new route by using magnetic control of energy flow in light harvest.

Identifying the dopants and their occupation sites in rare-earth-doped permanent magnets is critical not only to understand the mechanism of tuning their magnetic properties, but also to develop guiding principles to further improve their performance. In this study, we present a direct observation of the preferred atomic sites of La atoms in La-doped M-type SrFe12O19 hexaferrite. Our data solidly clarified that only the Sr2+ cations were replaced by La3+ cations, and the La-doping caused the changes in the valence states of iron cations located at the 4f1 and 2a crystallographic sites. First principles calculations further revealed that after La-doping, the changes in the spin states of the Fe3+ cations located at the 4f1 tetrahedral sites resulted in magnetization enhancement and those of the 2a octahedral sites contributed to electrical neutrality, well matching the experimental atomic-column resolution EELS and magnetic measurement results.

Materials with one-dimensional Weyl nodal lines are attracting much attention because of rich exotic properties. In this work, based on the first-principles calculations, we predict the existence of Weyl nodal lines in Fe70Al30. A large intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity is calculated to be −374 [Formula: see text], which stems from the net Berry curvature induced by Weyl nodal lines. To confirm our calculated results, high quality Fe70Al30 has been prepared and did possess a large anomalous Hall conductivity, where the intrinsic Berry curvature plays a role.

Compared to a space group, a magnetic space group is much more complex, as both magnetic structure and magnetic moment direction can change the original symmetries of materials. The interplay between space symmetry and magnetism can generate versatile novel quantum states. However, detecting these topological phases experimentally, achieved through manipulating the magnetic configuration, has been restricted. It is mainly because the intrinsic link between the theory and the available experimental technique remains elusive. Here, we show that high harmonic generation (HHG) can identify these topological quantum states. We use rhombohedral ${\mathrm{MnBi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Te}}_{4}$ film as an example, and analyze the symmetry-dependent harmonic order and signal by combining first-principles calculations and time-dependent Liouville equation numerical computations. Our results provide a fundamental basis for using HHG to study the topological quantum phases mediated by various magnetic configurations that can be easily realized by applying an external magnetic field.

Structural characterization is essential to material engineering, but few tools can detect structural properties in the time domain. High harmonic generation (HHG) emerges as a new frontier that touches the heart of condensed-matter physics from the symmetry to quantum geometrical nature of electrons, but its capability in structural characterization has not been materialized. Here, we establish a crucial connection between the symmetry of a material and the helicity of light. We employ monolayer ${\mathrm{MoS}}_{2}$ as an example. We show that a linearly polarized laser pulse used in experiments is not ideal for structural characterization because it only generates in-plane anisotropy. It is the circularly polarized laser field that is capable of producing four distinctive HHG signals from the four phases of ${\mathrm{MoS}}_{2}$. This finally links the laser helicity to the crystal structure. The results are generic and are not affected by the Berry curvature, the interband or intraband contribution. Our study unleashes the power of HHG as a structural characterization tool for technologically important materials.

The self-assembly of cyclodipeptides composed of natural aromatic amino acids into supramolecular structures of diverse morphologies with intrinsic emissions in the visible light region is demonstrated. The assembly process can be halted at the initial oligomerization by coordination with zinc ions, with the most prominent effect observed for cyclo-dihistidine (cyclo-HH). This process is mediated by attracting and pulling of the metal ions from the solvent into the peptide environment, rather than by direct interaction in the solvent as commonly accepted, thus forming an "environment-switching" doping mechanism. The doping induces a change of cyclo-HH molecular configurations and leads to the formation of pseudo "core/shell" clusters, comprising peptides and zinc ions organized in ordered conformations partially surrounded by relatively amorphous layers, thus significantly enhancing the emissions and allowing the application of the assemblies for ecofriendly color-converted light emitting diodes. These findings shed light into the very initial coordination procedure and elucidate an alternative mechanism of metal ions doping on biomolecules, thus presenting a promising avenue for integration of the bioorganic world and the optoelectronic field.

This stacking transition improves the physicochemical properties of the co-crystals, including a large red-shifted emission, enhanced chirality, improved thermal stability and mechanical properties. While the single crystal of 4,4’-Bpy shows good optical waveguiding and piezoelectric properties, the co-crystal has a significantly lower band-gap and improved conductivity. This demonstrates the first example of H- to J- and X- packing transition of a minimalistic model by co-crystal aggregation and provides a proof-of-concept strategy for organic optoelectronics design.

Atomic layered two-dimensional (2D) materials have become fascinating research topics due to their intriguing performances, but the limitation of nonmagnetic properties hinders their further applications. Developing versatile strategies endowing 2D materials with ferromagnetism is one of the main trends in current research studies. Herein, a hydrogen plasma strategy is introduced to dope hydrogen (H) atoms into the prototypical layered α-MoO3 nanosheets, by which ferromagnetic and exchange bias (EB) effects can be induced by H atom doping into α-MoO3 to form HxMoO3. These effects were interpreted by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. We find that H atom doping can introduce unoccupied states and induce a net magnetic moment localized on the d orbital of the Mo atom, because of the generated asymmetric distribution of electronic states on the Mo atom near the Fermi level. Moreover, the saturation magnetization and the EB field (He) of hydrogenated α-MoO3 are found to be tunable through altering the amount of H dopant. This work provides new perspectives for the effective manipulation of ferromagnetism and exchange interaction through H doping. We hope that the presented hydrogenation strategy is applicable for other kinds of 2D materials.

Current-induced spin–orbit torque (SOT) allows for highly efficient control of magnetization for the magnetic memory and the logic application, but its high critical current density Jc limits its applications. Here, we report that the surface acoustic wave (SAW) presents a promising approach for reducing Jc in Pt/Co/Ta heterostructures with perpendicular anisotropy. By the second harmonic Hall measurements, we find that the damping-like SOT effective field is almost the same with or without SAW, implying that the reduction of Jc does not originate from the enhancement of the SOT. However, the current-induced domain wall velocity v under SAW is greatly enhanced. By fitting with the creep law under SAW, we find that lnv is linear with SAW power (P), which reveals that the effective pinning barrier is reduced linearly with increasing P. This feature can be well described by the time average of the periodically accumulated nucleation probability under SAW. The results shed light on the application of SAW-assisted SOT devices for low consumption storage.

Galfenol owing excellent deformation due to lattice softening are regarded as a new generation of smart magnetostrictive materials. However, the lack of direct probes of phase transformation and intermediate phase related to lattice softening blocks the comprehensive understanding of their intrinsic magnetostrictive mechanism and further improvement of their performance. In this work, we firstly report an atomic observation of ω phase transformation in Galfenol under low temperature aging by spherical aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy. The ω precipitates with two variants are directly probed to be decomposed from FeGa bcc matrix with the assistances of both spinodal decomposition and displacive transformation. Their orientation relationships with the long range ordered bcc structure of D03 can be well indexed into (0003)ω1[ 11 2 ¯ 0 ]ω1 || ( 4 4 ¯ 4 ¯ )D03[ 0 1 ¯ 1 ]D03 || ( 4 ¯ 40 1 ¯ )ω2[ 11 2 ¯ 0 ]ω2. Density functional theory calculations unveil the precipitate of ω phase in Galfenol is theoretically possible. Further magnetostrictive measurements reveal the ω phase precipitates deteriorate the magnetostriction of Galfenol as empirically expected. Our work is believed to contribute a further insight of precipitate and structural evolution in Galfenol and is significant to maintain the magnetostriction performance of Galfenol in service.

As a new class of condensed matter, topological insulators challenge the traditional wisdom of condensed matter physics. Doping topological insulators with magnetic elements can realize the quantum anomalous Hall state, a two-dimensional bulk insulator with nonzero Chern number. High harmonic generation (HHG) has emerged as a very promising tool to probe electronic properties. However, its application to magnetically doped topological insulators has not been realized. Here, we predict that high harmonics from six quintuple layers of ${\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$(6QL-${\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$) carry crucial information about its structure. HHG sensitively depends on crystal symmetry and laser polarization. While in the parent compound 6QL-${\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$ all the harmonic orders are odd, once it is doped with a magnetic Cr atom, selective even and odd harmonics appear, depending on whether the laser field is in-plane or out-of-plane. With spin-orbit coupling, both even and odd harmonics appear. We find that these seemingly complicated harmonics have a simple origin: microscopic interplay between symmetry operations and laser polarization. Our finding demonstrates the unexplored power of HHG in topological insulators and will have a broad impact on future research.

Low biocompatibility or engineerability of conventional inorganic materials limits their extensive application for power harvesting in biological systems or at bio-machine interfaces. In contrast, intrinsically biocompatible peptide self-assemblies have shown promising potential as a new type of ideal components for eco-friendly optoelectronic energy-harvesting devices. However, the structural instability, weak mechanical strength, and inefficient optical or electrical properties severely impede their extensive application. Here, we demonstrate tryptophan-based aromatic dipeptide supramolecular structures to be direct wide-gap semiconductors. The molecular packings can be effectively modulated by changing the peptide sequence. The extensive and directional hydrogen bonding and aromatic interactions endow the structures with unique rigidity and thermal stability, as well as a wide-spectrum photoluminescence covering nearly the entire visible region, optical waveguiding, temperature/irradiation-dependent conductivity, and the ability to sustain quite high external electric fields. Furthermore, the assemblies display high piezoelectric properties, with a measured open-circuit voltage of up to 1.4 V. Our work provides insights into using aromatic short peptide self-assemblies for the fabrication of biocompatible, miniaturized electronics for power generation with tailored semiconducting optoelectronic properties and improved structural stability.

DO3 disorder is essential to elucidate the properties of many 3d group Heusler alloys, especially Mn2-based alloys. The DO3 disorder for Mn2FeAl, corresponding to the exchange between Mn and Fe atoms, is difficult to distinguish with the normal x-ray diffraction instrument because of similar atomic scattering factors for Mn and Fe atoms. However, via the observation of magnetic behavior, the DO3 disorder has been observed indirectly. Many pieces of evidence show the existence of DO3 disorder in our samples. A qualitative method is employed to clarify the degree of DO3 disorder for Mn2FeAl alloys with the results of first-principles calculations, and this method can be applied to many Mn2-based alloys. In addition, full ordering occupation of Al atoms has been observed and Mn2FeAl without any disorder could be prepared hopefully for further work.

Recently, electrical switching of interface states in nonferromagnet/ferromagnet (FM)/antiferromagnet (AFM) heterostructure using spin–orbit torque (SOT) is promising due to its high efficiency, zero magnetic field, and multilevel memory state. However, the reversal mechanism of the AFM interface state is still unclear. In this work, we explained the bipolar current switching of the AFM interface state at zero magnetic field by spin–orbit torque (SOT) in a perpendicularly magnetized Pt/Co/IrMn multilayer. By considering symmetry, we reveal that the mechanism behind the AFM interface bipolar current switching is consistent with FM layers perpendicularly switching induced by SOT. The distinct AFM bipolar current switching by SOT is contributed to the symmetry broken by adjacent FM interface coupling. Under such broken symmetry, the antiparallel interface configuration (AP) between FM and AFM could be switched to parallel configuration (P) for both positive and negative currents; however, P is only allowed to be switched to the AFM multiple domain configuration (M), instead of AP. Our result will be helpful for the formulation of a comprehensive understanding of AFM switching induced by SOT and for the development of the interface AFM spintronic devices.

In contrast to traditional concepts that eliminate magnetic impurities to achieve larger thermoelectric efficiencies, we report an enhanced thermoelectric efficiency for Cu through doping with the magnetic impurity Co. With doping concentrations from 15% to 30%, the amplitude of the Seebeck coefficient increases from 1.90 μV/K up to 16.3 μV/K, which greatly enhances the thermoelectric efficiency (i.e., power factor). Measuring the magnetoresistance and magnetothermoelectric powers at different temperatures indicates that the enhancement of thermoelectric efficiency is a result of spin-dependent scattering from Co nanoparticles, which are less sensitive to the superparamagnetic transitions. Our finding illustrates a path for the use of nanomagnets to develop potential thermoelectric materials.

Quantum confined materials have been extensively studied for photoluminescent applications. Due to intrinsic limitations of low biocompatibility and challenging modulation, the utilization of conventional inorganic quantum confined photoluminescent materials in bio-imaging and bio-machine interface faces critical restrictions. Here, we present aromatic cyclo-dipeptides that dimerize into quantum dots, which serve as building blocks to further self-assemble into quantum confined supramolecular structures with diverse morphologies and photoluminescence properties. Especially, the emission can be tuned from the visible region to the near-infrared region (420 nm to 820 nm) by modulating the self-assembly process. Moreover, no obvious cytotoxic effect is observed for these nanostructures, and their utilization for in vivo imaging and as phosphors for light-emitting diodes is demonstrated. The data reveal that the morphologies and optical properties of the aromatic cyclo-dipeptide self-assemblies can be tuned, making them potential candidates for supramolecular quantum confined materials providing biocompatible alternatives for broad biomedical and opto-electric applications., Quantum confined (QC) materials have favorable photoluminescent properties, yet are less bioavailable. Here, the authors developed aromatic cyclo-dipeptides that assemble into quantum dots and organize into biocompatible QC supramolecular structures suitable for in vivo imaging and optoelectronics.

High-order harmonic generation (HHG) in solids has entered a new phase of intensive research, with envisioned band-structure mapping on an ultrashort time scale. This partly benefits from a flurry of new HHG materials discovered, but so far has missed an important group. HHG in magnetic materials should have profound impact on future magnetic storage technology advances. Here we introduce and demonstrate HHG in ferromagnetic monolayers. We find that HHG carries spin information and sensitively depends on the relativistic spin-orbit coupling; and if they are dispersed into the crystal momentum ${\bf k}$ space, harmonics originating from real transitions can be ${\bf k}$-resolved and carry the band structure information. Geometrically, the HHG signal is sensitive to spatial orientations of monolayers. Different from the optical counterpart, the spin HHG, though probably weak, only appears at even orders, a consequence of SU(2) symmetry. Information technology depends on how one can control and manipulate signals accurately and quickly. Transistors are at the core of modern technology and are based on electron charges. But as the device dimension shrinks, heating becomes a major problem. The spintronics explores the spin degree of electrons and thus bypasses the heat, at least in principle. For this reason, spin-based technology offers a possible solution. In this review, we survey some of latest developments in all-optical switching (AOS), where ultrafast laser pulses are able to reverse spins from one direction to the other deterministically. But AOS only occurs in a special group of magnetic samples and within a narrow window of laser parameters. Some samples need multiple pulses to switch spins, while others need a single-shot pulse. To this end, there are several models available, but the underlying mechanism is still under debate. This review is different from other prior reviews in two aspects. First, we sacrifice the completeness of reviewing existing studies, while focusing on a limited set of experimental results that are highly reproducible in different labs and provide actual switched magnetic domain images. Second, we extract the common features from existing experiments that are critical to AOS, without favoring a particular switching mechanism. We emphasize that given the limited experimental data, it is really premature to identify a unified mechanism. We compare these features with our own model prediction, without resorting to a phenomenological scheme. Blue phosphorene (BP) was theoretically predicted to be thermally stable recently. Considering its similar in-layer hexagonal lattice to MoS 2 , MoS 2 could be an appropriate substrate to grow BP in experiments. In this work, the van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures are constructed by stacking BP on top of MoS 2 . The thermal stability and electronic structures are evaluated based on first principles calculations with vdW-corrected exchange-correlation functional. The formation of the heterostructures is demonstrated to be exothermic and the most stable stacking configuration is confirmed. The heterostructures BP/MoS 2 preserve both the properties of BP and MoS 2 but exhibit relatively narrower bandgaps due to the interlayer coupling effect. The band structures can be further engineered by applying external electric fields. An indirect–direct bandgap transition in bilayer BP/MoS 2 is demonstrated to be controlled by the symmetry property of the built-in electric dipole fields.

The anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnetic materials has attracted much attention for more than a century due to its physical complexity and important applications. Depending on its origin, this effect has been explained by three typical mechanisms: intrinsic contribution [1], skew scattering [2], and side jump [3], which cause exponential dependences with different power indexes between the extraordinary Hall conductivity σ xy and the longitudinal conductivity σ xx in experiments [4]. The power law has been extensively studied experimentally in a large series of ferromagnetic materials, by changing the temperature, disorder scattering, and the density of states at the Fermi surface [1].

Two-dimensional ferromagnetic metal-free materials possessing only an s/p electronic configuration with weak spin–orbit coupling and a large spin relaxation time play a crucial role in constructing future spintronic devices. Here, we demonstrate a novel two-dimensional material, fluorinated graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets, with intrinsic ferromagnetism; its Curie temperature can reach as high as 700 K. More surprising is that such unusual ferromagnetism can be further tuned by changing the concentration of fluorine. The tuneable electronic spin polarization, as well as the ferromagnetism observed in the fluorinated g-C3N4 nanosheets is quite promising for future device applications in spintronics.

We report a first-principles study of the magnetic properties and spin caloritronics of zigzag-type blue phosphorene nanoribbons (zBPNRs). It is found that the bare zBPNR (0H-zBPNR) or monohydrogenated zBPNR (1H-zBPNR) exhibit spin-semiconducting properties arising from the edge electronic states. We further confirm that the py orbitals of the edge P atoms have the main contributions to these states. The spin-semiconducting property has a natural advantage for fabricating perfect thermospin devices with a stronger spin Seebeck effect than charge Seebeck effect at the Fermi level. When a temperature difference is applied, the electric current with the different spin index displays a bipolar behavior, and the spin-filtering efficiency can reach 1200%. By changing the widths of 0H-zBPNR and 1H-zBPNR, the ratio of the spin Seebeck coefficient to the charge Seebeck coefficient at the Fermi level is about 10 at room temperature.

Employing an electron energy-loss spectrum (EELS), we have found that the structure of ZnFe2O4 nanotubes deviated from the normal spinel structure as the calcination temperature decreases. More Fe3+ ions migrate to the tetrahedral sites (A sites) rather than staying in their equilibrium octahedral sites (B sites). This results in the enhanced superexchange interactions between Fe3+ ions, thus affecting the magnetic properties of the nanotubes, i.e., higher blocking temperature (TB) and larger saturation magnetization (MS), etc. On the other hand, we have also found that deviation of the Fe/Zn from 2 affects the magnetic properties of the nanotube samples. This should be caused by the enhanced superexchange interactions resulting from the extra Fe3+ ions in the nonstoichiometric sample.

An ideal semiconducting material should simultaneously hold a considerable direct band gap and a high carrier mobility. A 2D planar compound consisting of zigzag chains of C-C and B-N atoms, denoted as BC2N, would be a good candidate. It has a direct band gap of 2 eV, which can be further tuned by changing the layer number. At the same time, our first-principles calculations show that few-layer BC2N possesses a high carrier mobility. The carrier mobility of around one million sqaure centimeters per volt-second is obtained at its three-layer. As our study demonstrated, few-layer BC2N has potential applications in nanoelectronics and optoelectronics.

First principles calculations based on the density functional theory (DFT) are employed to estimate the electronic structures of bilayer heterostructure of MoS2/WS2. The dependences of the band structures on external electric field and interlayer separation are evaluated. The external electric filed induces a semiconductor-metal transition. At the same time, a larger interlayer separation, corresponding to a weaker interlayer interaction, makes an indirect-direct band gap transition happen for the heterojunction. Our results demonstrate that electronic structure tailoring of two-dimensional layered materials should include both spatial symmetry control and interlayer vdW interactions engineering.

The effect of Si doping on the stability, electronic structure, and electron transport properties of boron nitride (BN) monolayer has been investigated by density functional theory method. Unique features in the electron transport characteristics consisting of a significant enhancement of current at the Si site, diode-like asymmetric current-voltage response, and negative differential resistance are noted for the doped BN monolayer. These features are found to result from new "tunnel" channels induced by the substitutional Si atom near Fermi level in the band gap. The calculated position-projected tunneling currents providing scanning tunneling micrograph clearly discern the site-dependence of the Si atom and can be used to distinguish substitutional sites of atomic dopants in the monolayer.

We report a pronounced angular dependence of the magnetoresistance (MR) effect in a silicon based p-n junction device at room temperature by manipulating the space charge region of the p-n junction under a magnetic field. For the p-n junction device with various space charge region configurations, we find that all the angular dependence of the MR effect is proportional to sin(2)(θ), where the θ is the angle between the magnetic field and the driving current. With increasing the magnetic field and driving current, the anisotropic MR effect is obviously improved. At room temperature, under a magnetic field 2 T and driving current 20 mA, the MR ratio is about 50%, almost one order of amplitude larger than that in the magnetic material permalloy. Our results reveal an interpretation of the MR effect in the non-magnetic p-n junction in terms of the Lorentz force and give a new way for the development of future magnetic sensors with non-magnetic p-n junctions.

In this letter, we demonstrate a large enhancement of the magnetic moment in zigzag Janus MoSSe nanoribbons arising from the out-of-plane mirror symmetry breaking. Owing to the broken mirror symmetry, the orbital of the edge Mo atom is tilted and largely overlaps the orbital. As a result, a new band which is nearly completely occupied near the Fermi level emerges, leading to a large spin splitting and so a large magnetic moment in zigzag Janus MoSSe nanoribbons. The results shed new light on the understanding of magnetism correlated to the space symmetry breaking in low-dimensional materials.

In contrast to commonly used means such as the magnetic field, here an electric field is used to achieve a large valley splitting in the van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure WSe2/CrI3. CrI3 contributes to the spin moment. The electric field pushes the valence bands of Cr atoms close to those of the W atoms associated with pseudospin so that they can interact through the exchange interaction. The opposite helicities of pseudospin at the K and K' points realize a valley splitting as large as 10.5 meV under an electric field of 0.1 V A−1. The underlying physics stems from the interlayer charge transfer, where the spin conservation plays a role.

Based on the three-dimensional micromagnetic simulations, we present a method to tailor the microwave permeabilities of magnonic metamaterials cells by a designed nanoring structure. The results show that the permeabilities and resonant frequency are depended on the wallʼs thickness of nanorings. The underlying mechanism is ascribed to the presence of strong demagnetization fields, which are associated to the ringʼs wall. In addition, the products of magnetic susceptibility and resonant frequency are larger than that predicted from Snoekʼs law in polycrystalline particles. These results are direct manifestations of the bi-anisotropy model.

Ultrafast spin dynamics in Tbx(FeCo)1-x films is studied using the time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect. Since the graphitic carbon nitride (g-C4N3), which can be seen as C-doped graphitic-C3N4 (g-C3N4), was reported to display ferromagnetic ground state and intrinsic half-metallicity (Du et al., PRL,108,197207,2012), it has attracted numerous research interest to tune the electronic structure and magnetic properties of g-C3N4 due to their potential applications in spintronic devices. In this paper, we reported the experimentally achieving of high temperature ferromagnetism in metal-free ultrathin g-C3N4 nanosheets by introducing of B atoms. Further, first-principles calculation results revealed that the current flow in such a system was fully spin-polarized and the magnetic moment was mainly attributed to the p orbital of N atoms in B doped g-C3N4 monolayer, giving the theoretic evidence of the ferromagnetism and half-metallicity. Our finding provided a new perspective for B doped g-C3N4 spintronic devices in future.
