Abstract To achieve dual optimization of the mechanical properties and environmental impacts of geopolymer concrete (GPC), this study proposes a high-strength geopolymer concrete (HSGPC) without coarse aggregate. The mix proportion of HSGPC was optimized using the response surface methodology, targeting compressive strength and splitting tensile strength to determine the optimal mix. Additionally, the carbon emission impact of HSGPC was assessed and compared with ordinary Portland cement concrete, ultra-high-performance concrete, and reactive powder concrete. The results indicate that the optimal mix proportion for HSGPC includes 15% fly ash content, 10.30% silica fume content, alkali activator ratio of 2.5, and a NaOH molar concentration of 10 M. Simultaneously, the carbon emissions of HSGPC are reduced by about 30% compared to ordinary Portland cement concrete. Compared to ultra-high-performance concrete and reactive powder concrete of the same strength, the production of HSGPC respectively reduces carbon emissions by 59.87% and 68.24%. This study not only provides valuable technical support for the practical application of GPC in engineering but also holds significant implications for promoting sustainable development in the construction industry.

Abstract The carboamination of unsaturated molecules using bifunctional reagents is considered an attractive approach for the synthesis of nitrogen-containing compounds. However, bifunctional C–N reagents have never been employed in the carboamination of cyclopropane. In this study, we use an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC), N-benzoyl saccharin, as a bifunctional reagent and a photoredox catalyst for a dual-catalyzed 1,3-aminoacylation of cyclopropane. NHCs play multiple roles, functioning as Lewis base catalysts to activate C–N bonds, promoting the oxidative quenching process of PC*, and acting as efficient acyl radical transfer catalysts for the formation of C–C bonds. The oxidative quenching process between the excited-state PC* and acyl NHC adduct is the key to the photooxidation generality of aryl cyclopropanes.

In recent years, exploration breakthroughs have been successively achieved in the strata deeper than the fifth member of the Lower Ordovician Majiagou Formation in the Ordos Basin, revealing its tremendous exploration potential. With the deployment of high-precision 3D seismic data and the deepening of oil and gas exploration, the control exerted by faults on the gas reservoirs in the deeper layers of the fifth member has become increasingly prominent. Based on high-precision 3D seismic data, this study systematically characterized the geometric features of faults in the Gaojiabao area, dissected typical fault structural patterns, established fault formation and evolution models, and, in conjunction with drilling and testing data, discussed the control of faults on the differential enrichment of gas reservoirs in the deeper layers of the Majiagou Formation. The study yielded the following insights: Faults in the Lower Paleozoic of the Gaojiabao area in the Ordos Basin exhibit distinct stratified deformation characteristics, with the two sets of gypsum-salt rocks in the third and fifth members being major contributors to fault stratification. The Lower Paleozoic in the Gaojiabao area mainly develops strike-slip faults with compressional and torsional properties and thrust faults. Through studying the structural morphology and fault patterns of the Gaojiabao area, it is inferred that the Yanshan tectonic movement was the most significant phase of reformation affecting the faults formed during the Caledonian tectonic movement. The coupling of the structural uplift period with the oil-gas charging period in the Gaojiabao area means that faults play multiple roles, including improving reservoirs, connecting source rocks, and controlling traps.

Objective To analyze the correlation of HBV serological characteristics between non-reproducible reactivity (NRR) samples and occult hepatitis B virus infection (OBI) samples for blood screening. Methods A total of 144 samples with negative ELISA (HBV, HCV and HIV test) results and reactive nucleic acid tests(NAT) were collected from January 2021 to January 2023 in Anhui Blood Center, including 92 reactive samples by TMA method (combined ID-NAT) and 52 HBV DNA reactive samples by PCR method (ID-NAT). Supplementary differential testing and ID-NAT by PCR were performed on the reactive samples of the combined ID-NAT, samples that were non-reactive by both differential testing and ID-NAT by PCR were included in the NRR group, and samples that were reactive for HBV DNA detected by either method were included in the OBI group. Supplemented with HBsAg, anti-HBs, HBeAg, anti-HBe and anti-HBc tests, the differences in serological pattern and positive rate between NRR samples and OBI samples were analyzed. Results A total of 53 samples were negative for differential testing and ID-NAT and were included in the NRR group, 91 samples were detected as HBV DNA reactive in either method and were included in the OBI group. HBsAg and HBeAg were not detected by serological testing in either group. The detection rates of anti-HBs, anti-HBc and anti-HBe in the NRR group and the OBI group were 64.15% vs 47.25%, 86.79% vs 94.51%, 35.85% vs 52.75%, respectively. Comparison of serological patterns between the two groups: the most frequent pattern in the NRR group was anti-HBs (+ ) and anti-HBc (+ ) (32.08%), and the most frequent pattern in the OBI group was anti-HBe (+ ) and anti-HBc (+ ) (37.36%). Conclusion There were differences in some of the test results between the NRR samples and the OBI samples in HBV serological testing, and higher anti-HBc positive rate in the NRR samples suggests a higher possibility of HBV infection.

Abstract Objective In this study, multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) imaging was used to deeply analyze the changes of hippocampal subfields perfusion and function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), aiming to provide image basis for the diagnosis of hippocampal‐related nerve injury in patients with T2DM. Methods We recruited 35 patients with T2DM and 40 healthy control subjects (HCs). They underwent resting‐state functional MRI (rs‐fMRI), arterial spin labeling (ASL) scans, and a series of cognitive tests. Then, we compared the differences of two groups in the cerebral blood flow (CBF) value, amplitude of low‐frequency fluctuation (ALFF) value, and regional homogeneity (ReHo) value of the bilateral hippocampus subfields. Results The CBF values of cornu ammonis area 1 (CA1), dentate gyrus (DG), and subiculum in the right hippocampus of T2DM group were significantly lower than those of HCs. The ALFF values of left hippocampal CA3, subiculum, and bilateral hippocampus amygdala transition area (HATA) were higher than those of HCs in T2DM group. The ReHo values of CA3, DG, subiculum, and HATA in the left hippocampus of T2DM group were higher than those of HCs. In the T2DM group, HbAc1 and FINS were negatively correlated with imaging characteristics in some hippocampal subregions. Conclusion This study indicates that T2DM patients had decreased perfusion in the CA1, DG, and subiculum of the right hippocampus, and the right hippocampus subiculum was associated with chronic hyperglycemia. Additionally, we observed an increase in spontaneous neural activity within the left hippocampal CA3, subiculum, and bilateral HATA regions, as well as an enhanced local neural coordination in the left hippocampal CA3, DG, HATA, and subiculum among patients with type 2 diabetes, which may reflect an adaptive compensation for cognitive decline. However, this compensation may decline with the exacerbation of metabolic disorders.

A novel DC traction power supply system suitable for energy feeding and de-icing is proposed in this paper for an urban rail transit catenary on the basis of the full bridge submodule (FBSM) modular multilevel converter (MMC). The FBSM-MMC is a novel type of voltage source converter (VSC) and can directly control the output DC voltage and conduct bipolar currents, thus flexibly controlling the power flow of the urban rail transit catenary. The proposed topology can overcome the inherent disadvantages of the output voltage drop in the diode rectifier units, increase the power supply distance and reduce the number of traction substations. The flexible DC technology can coordinate multiple FBSM-MMCs in a wide area and jointly complete the bidirectional control of catenary power flow during the operation of the electric locomotive, so as to realize the local consumption and optimal utilization of the recovered braking energy of the train. In addition, the FBSM-MMCs can also adjust the output current when the locomotive is out of service to prevent the catenary from icing in winter. The working modes of the proposed topology are illustrated in detail and the control strategy is specially designed for normal locomotive operations and catenary de-icing. Simulation cases conducted by PSCAD/EMTDC validate the proposed topology and its control strategy.

The Weixinan Sag in the Beibuwan Basin is rich in shale oil resources. However, the reservoirs exhibit rapid phase changes, strong compartmentalization, thin individual layers, and high-frequency vertical variations in the thin interbedded sandstone and mudstone. These factors can restrict the height of hydraulic fracture propagation. Additionally, the low-porosity and low-permeability shale oil reservoirs face challenges such as low production rates and rapid decline. To address these issues, the Plannar3D full 3D fracturing model was used to simulate hydraulic fracture propagation and to study the main controlling factors for fracture propagation in the second member of the Liushagang Formation. Based on the concept of geological–engineering integration, a sweet spot evaluation was conducted to identify reservoirs with relatively better brittleness, reservoir properties, and oil content as the fracturing targets for horizontal wells. The UFM model was then applied to optimize fracturing parameters. This study indicates that the matrix-type oil shale has a high clay mineral content, resulting in a low Young’s modulus and poor brittleness. This makes hydraulic fracture propagation difficult and leads to less effective reservoir stimulation. In contrast, hydraulic fractures propagate more easily in high-brittleness interlayer-type oil shale. Therefore, it is recommended to prioritize the extraction of shale oil from interlayer-type oil shale reservoirs. The difference in interlayer stress is identified as the primary controlling factor for cross-layer fracture propagation in the study area. Based on the concept of geological–engineering integration, a sweet spot evaluation standard was established for the second member of the Liushagang Formation, considering both reservoir quality and engineering quality. Four sweet spot zones of interlayer-type oil shale reservoirs were identified according to this evaluation standard. To achieve uniform fracture initiation, a differentiated segment and cluster design was implemented for certain high-angle sections of well WZ11-6-5d. Interlayer-type oil shale was selected as the fracturing target, and the UFM was used for hydraulic fracture propagation simulation. Fracturing parameters were optimized with a focus on hydraulic fracture characteristics and the estimated ultimate recovery (EUR). The optimization results were as follows: a single-stage length of 50 m, cluster spacing of 15 m, pump injection rate of 10 m3/min, fluid intensity of 25 m3/m, and proppant intensity of 3.5 t/m. The application of these optimized fracturing parameters in field operations resulted in successful fracturing and the achievement of industrial oil flow.

The chemical flame retardants represented by organophosphate esters (OPEs) are widely used and have a serious impact on the environment. In this study, we collected data on the exposure levels of ten OPEs in Chinese soils in recent years and performed an ecological risk assessment. The results showed that the levels of OPEs varied considerably throughout different regions of China, with high exposure levels in highly urbanized or industrialized areas such as Guangdong Province and Northeast China, where the mean value was >200 ng/g. The content of OPEs in the soil in industrial and commercial areas was significantly higher than in other regions, indicating that the concentration of OPEs in the soil is closely related to local economic development and the degree of industrialization. Meanwhile, the number of studies reporting on OPEs and their exposure concentrations have increased significantly since 2018. Through the ecological risk assessment, it was found that TCP, EHDPP and TEHP pose high ecological risks. Although some OPEs, such as TCIPP, have low ecological risk levels overall, their high exposure concentrations are still worthy of attention. This study details the general status of OPE contamination in Chinese soils, which can serve as a reference for ecological environmental supervision.

Based on the dynamic shock response of the material and structure, the hypervelocity impact processes and mechanisms of long composite rods with axial density/impedance gradients penetration into four-layer targets were studied through experiments and numerical simulation methods. The propagation law of the shock waves, together with the structural responses of the projectiles and targets, the formation and evolution of the fragment groups formed during the processes and their distributions were described. The damage of each target plate was quantitatively analysed by comparing the results of the experiment and numerical simulation. The results showed that the axial density/impedance gradient projectiles could decrease the impact pressure to a certain extent, and the degree of damage to the target plate decreased layer by layer when the head density/impedance of the projectile was high. When the head density/impedance of the projectile was low, the degree of target damage first increased layer by layer until the projectile was completely eroded and then it decreased. The results can provide a reference for the design and application of long rods with axial composite structure for velocities ranging from 6 to 10 Ma or greater.

The exponential growth of human activities has resulted in a substantial increase in land use practices that not only modify the characteristics of landscape patterns but also pose significant landscape ecological risk (LER), with the latter being pivotal for ecosystem conservation and sustainable social development. However, research on LER and driving factors of Irtysh River Basin (IRB) are limited. Objectively assessing the LER of the high latitudes within Central Asia (Irtysh River Basin) and quantitatively identifying the environmental factors driving its changes holds significant research value for ensuring the ecological security of human habitation amidst global change. In this study, the spatial autocorrelation analysis method and geographically weighted regression (GWR) and geographical detector (Geo-Detector) models were utilized to reveal the spatiotemporal changes in LER based on land use/land cover (LULC) changes in the IRB from 1992 to 2020. The findings indicate that (1) the temporal scale reveals a slight increasing trend in LER within the IRB. (2) The spatial distribution is characterized by a dominance of lower- and medium-risk regions, with evident positive spatial autocorrelation. (3) The spatial pattern of LER is influenced by various factors, with a significant impact from temperature in the geo-detector model. In addition, the spatial heterogeneity of the effects of major factors was further obtained using the GWR model. The findings presented herein can serve as scientific references for the development of sustainability and ecological safety management in global arid zones and high-latitude cold regions, thus promoting environmental protection in various countries, enhancing consensus on ecological protection and facilitating international cooperation on conservation.

Billions of people worldwide have experienced irreversible kidney injuries, which is mainly attributed to the complexity of drug-induced nephrotoxicity. Consequently, there is an urgent need for uncovering the mechanisms of nephrotoxicity caused by compounds. In the present study, a network-based methodology was applied to explore the mechanisms of nephrotoxicity induced by specific compounds. Initially, a total of 42 nephrotoxic compounds and 60 kinds of syndromes associated with nephrotoxicity were collected from public resources. Afterward, network localization and separation algorithms were used to map the targets of compounds and diseases into the human interactome. By doing so, 199 statistically significant nephrotoxic networks displaying the interaction between compound targets and disease genes were obtained, which played pivotal roles in compounds-induced nephrotoxicity. Subsequently, enrichment analysis pinpointed core Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways that highlight commonalities in nephrotoxicity induced by nephrotoxic compounds. It was found that nephrotoxic compounds primarily induce nephrotoxicity by mediating the advanced glycosylation end products-receptor for advanced glycosylation end products signaling pathway in diabetic complications, human cytomegalovirus infection, lipid and atherosclerosis, Kaposi sarcoma–associated herpesvirus infection, apoptosis, and the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-Akt pathways. These results provide valuable insights for preventing drug-induced nephrotoxicity. Furthermore, the approaches we used are also helpful in conducting research on other kinds of toxicities.

ABSTRACTNorthern corn leaf blight (NCLB) is one of the most important foliar disease in maize, which leads to serious yield losses. It is necessary to identify resistance genes in order to control NCLB. Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades play important roles in plant defense reactions. Ethylene-response factor (ERF) is involved in plant disease resistance in maize through phosphorylation by MAPK signaling pathway. Here, we found that ZmMPK6-1 positively regulates maize resistance against E. turcicum through enhancing the expression of defense-related genes and enzyme activities. Moreover, ZmMPK6-1 can interact with ZmERF061 which enhanced the transcriptional activation activity of ZmERF061. Taken together, our findings indicated that ZmMPK6-1 would act through improving ZmERF061 transcriptional activation activity to induce defensin gene expression in regulating the maize resistance against E. turcicum. These results revealed the molecular mechanism of ZmMPK6-1-ZmERF061 signaling pathway in response to E. turcicum, which is useful to maize E. turcicum resistance breeding.

In this work, a gelatin/chia mucilage (GN/CM) composite coating material doped with Lactococcus lactis (LS) was developed for strawberry preservation applications. The results of the scanning electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy stated that the enhanced molecular interaction between the CM and GN matrix strengthened the density and compactness of the GN film. Antifungal results indicated that the addition of LS significantly (p < 0.05) improved the ability of the GN coating to inhibit the growth of Botrytis cinerea (inhibition percentage = 62.0 ± 4.6%). Adding CM significantly (p < 0.05) decreased the water vapour permeability and oxygen permeability of the GN coating by 32.7 ± 4.0% and 15.76 ± 1.89%, respectively. In addition, the incorporated CM also significantly (p < 0.05) improved the LS viability and elongation at break of the film by 13.11 ± 2.05% and 42.58 ± 1.21%, respectively. The GN/CM/LS composite coating material also exhibited an excellent washability. The results of this study indicated that the developed GN/CM/LS coating could be used as a novel active material for strawberry preservation.

Objective To retrospectively analyze the detection results of blood donors with HBsAg reactivity to single reagent detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in our center, so as to provide basis for further consolidating the blood donor team. Methods Samples of blood donors who had been deferred for at least 6 months due to HBsAg reactivity to sole ELISA assay were collected, and HBsAg ELISA and NAT were further performed. Meanwhile, HBsAg/HBsAb/HBeAg/HBeAb/HBcAb were detected by Roche electrochemiluminescence immunoassay, and the results were statistically analyzed. Results Among these 51 selected samples, 45 were negative to two assays, 6 were reactive to sole assay, with reactivity-yield rate at 11.76% (6/51). The results of NAT/ECLIA were all negative. For five indicators of hepatitis B virus infection, 23 samples were all negative and 28 were partially positive, mainly anti-HBs, anti-HBc and anti-HBe. Conclusion The follow-up detection of HBsAg ELISA sole-reagent reactive samples, supplemented with the detection of HBV serological markers, can reduce the number of deferred blood donors, increase the willingness to donate blood again, and protect the rights and interests of blood donors.

Objective To investigate the characteristics of HBV serological markers of NAT reactive blood donors under different HBsAg status. Methods NAT reactive samples, with HBsAg-, HBsAg+ /retest - and HBsAg+ by single reagent were collected from September 2021 to May 2022 in our laboratory. The TMA non-reactive samples were retested by Roche PCR, then HBsAg, anti-HBs, HBeAg, anti-HBe and anti-HBc were detected by ECLI for statistical analysis. Results A total of 66 samples were collected, among which 55 were HBsAg-/NAT+. The positive rate of anti-HBc, anti-HBs+ anti-HBc, anti-HBe+ anti-HBc was 87.3% (48/55), 43.6% (24/55) and 45.5% (25/55), respectively. The positive rate of anti-HBs was 10.9% (6/55) and the overall negative rate was 1.8% (1/55). In 7 HBsAg+ initially/retest -/NAT+ samples, the positive rate of anti-HBc was 100%(7/7), and the positive rate of anti-HBe+ anti-HBc was 71.4%(5/7). In 4 HBsAg+ /NAT+ samples by single reagent, the positive rate of HBsAg+ anti-HBs+ anti-HBe+ anti-HBc was 50% (2/4), and positive rate of anti-HBe+ anti-HBc was100% (4/4). Samples, not reactive to TMA discriminatory and anti-HBc negative, were also non-reactive to individual PCR retest. There were significant differences in the positive rates of anti-HBe+ anti-HBc between HBsAg-/NAT+ samples and HBsAg+ /NAT+ (single reagent) samples (P

Continuous co-phase traction power system is an effective method to eliminate neutral sections and provide high quality power for both the public grid and the catenary. The substations have the ability to provide cooperative support to each other to reduce capacity and improve system reliability. A fast power control method for substations is needed due to rapid load changes and low overload capability of the system. This paper proposes a fast power control method based on high-speed communication between substations, with additional transient power control to significantly improve the dynamic response of the system.

Background: Data-driven event analysis has gradually become the backbone of modern competitive sports analysis. Increasingly, competitive sports data analysis tasks use computer vision and machine learning models for intelligent data analysis. Existing sports visualization systems focus on the player–team data visualization, which is not intuitive enough for team season win–loss data and game time–series data visualization, and neglects the prediction of all-star players. Methods: This study used an interactive visualization system, the NPIPVis is designed with parallel aggregated ordered hypergraph dynamic hypergraphs, Calliope visualization data story technology, and iStoryline narrative visualization technology to visualize the regular statistics and game time data of players and teams. NPIPVis includes dynamic hypergraphs of team wins and losses and game plot narrative visualization components. In addition, an integrated learning-based all-star player prediction model SRR-voting, which starts from the existing minority and majority samples, was proposed using synthetic minority oversampling technique and RandomUnderSampler methods to generate and eliminate samples of a certain size to balance the number of all-star and average players in the datasets. A random forest algorithm was introduced next to extract and construct the features of players and combined with the voting integrated model to predict the all-star players, using GridSearchCV, to optimize the hyperparameters of each model in integrated learning and then combined with fivefold cross-validation to improve the generalization ability of the model, and, finally, the Shap model was introduced to enhance the interpretability of the model. Results: The experimental results of comparing the SRR-voting model with six common models show that accuracy and F1-score and recall metrics are significantly improved, which verifies the effectiveness and practicality of the SRR-voting model. Conclusions: This paper combines data visualization and machine learning to design a National Basketball Association data visualization system to help the general audience visualize game data and predict all-star players which can be extended to other sports events or related fields.

Although the ecological risk of emerging contaminants is currently a research hotspot in China and abroad, few studies have investigated the ecological risk of pesticide pollutants in Chinese coastal sediments. In this study, nine pesticide pollutants included in the “List of New Key Pollutants for Control (2023 Edition)” issued by the Chinese government were used as the research objects, and the environmental exposure of pesticide pollutants in China’s coastal sediments was analyzed. The baseline sediment quality criteria were deduced using the balanced distribution method, and a multi-level ecological risk assessment of pesticides in sediment was performed. The results showed that the nine pesticide pollutants were widespread in Chinese coastal sediments, with concentrations ranging from 0.01 ng·g−1 to 330 ng·g−1. The risk quotient assessment showed that endosulfan and DDT posed medium environmental risks to the Chinese coastal sediment environment, and PCBs posed medium risks in some bays of the East China Sea. The semi-probabilistic, optimized semi-probability evaluation and joint probability curve (JPC) assessments all show that endosulfan and DDT pose a certain degree of risk to the environment.

In order to determine the distribution pattern of the threshed mixture in the double longitudinal axial flow threshing device, single-factor experiments were conducted on the self-developed experimental platform for the double longitudinal axis threshing device. The experimental factors included drum speed, threshing clearance, and feed rate. The variations in the distribution of the threshed material along the axial and radial directions were examined. The results indicate that the mixed material after threshing exhibits uneven distribution both axially and radially. Along the axial direction, the mass of corn kernels initially increases and then decreases and is predominantly distributed in the front one-third section of the drum. Meanwhile, the mass of corn cobs continuously increases. In the radial direction, the mass of corn kernels and cobs is higher in the middle and on both sides, with the corn kernels being most concentrated in the middle and the corn cobs mostly on the sides. Combining the corn kernel breakage rate and the unthreshed rate, the optimal operating conditions were determined as follows: a drum speed of 400 r/min, a concave clearance of 50 mm, and a feed rate of 16 kg/s.

The objective of this work was to study the difference of physical and chemical indexes and sensory indexes between set-style yogurt with TG enzyme and plain set-style yogurt (without TG enzyme) in the fermentation process. The changes of acidity, viscosity, hardness, water holding capacity and viable count of yogurt during fermentation were measured by phenolphthalein indicator method, rheometer, texture analyzer, centrifugation and plate counting method, respectively. The changes of color, taste and smell were measured by electronic eye, electronic tongue and electronic nose, respectively, and sensory evaluation was carried out. The results showed that adding 0~5 U TG enzyme per gram of milk protein, the acidity of yogurt at the end of fermentation was within the range of 71.12~73.64 oT, and there was no significant difference in the acidity of yogurt (P>0.05). During the fermentation process, the viscosity and hardness increased significantly after 3 h (P0.05). The main color number of TG enzyme set-style yoghurt and common set-style yoghurt were both 4095, and there was no significant difference in color at the end of fermentation (P>0.05). By principal component analysis, adding different concentrations of TG enzyme after fermentation had no significant effect on the taste and smell of yogurt (P>0.05). According to sensory evaluation, yogurt that 1 g milk protein supplemented with 2 U TG enzyme had the best sensory. Therefore, compared with the plain set-style yogurt without TG enzyme, the coagulated yogurt with TG enzyme was not significantly different in acidity, live bacteria count, color, taste and odor (P>0.05); it was significantly higher in viscosity, hardness and water-holding capacity (P

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to investigate the ability of differential diagnosis of prostate specific antigen decline rate (PSADR) per week, degree of prostatic collapse (DPC) and tissue signal rate of prostate (TSRP) between prostatitis and prostate cancer. Methods The clinical data of 92 patients [prostate specific antigen (PSA) > 10 ng/mL] who underwent prostate biopsy in the Department of Urology, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi ’an Jiaotong University from May 2017 to April 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. They were divided into two groups, prostatitis group (n = 42) and prostate cancer (PCa) group (n = 50), according to pathological results. Parameters, like patient characteristics, PSADR, DPC, TSRP and infectious indicators, were compared and analyzed by t test or non-parametric test to identify if there were significant differences. The thresholds of parameters were determined by the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), and the data were analyzed to investigate the diagnostic value in distinguishing of prostatitis and prostate cancer. Results There were statistical differences in age, PSADR, DPC, TSRP, neutrophil percentage in serum, white blood cell (WBC) in urine and prostate volume between prostatitis group and PCa group (P 3.175 might be good indicators when distinguishing prostate disease with prostatitis (OR = 14.305, 95%CI = 3.779 ~ 54.147), while DPC > 1.113 and TSRP > 2.708 might be associated with a higher risk of prostate cancer (OR = 0.151, 95%CI = 0.039 ~ 0.588; OR = 0.012, 95%CI = 0.005 ~ 0.524, respectively). Conclusion The combination of PSADR per week, DPC, and TSRP might be helpful to distinguish prostate cancer and prostatitis, and can reduce unnecessary invasive and histological procedure.

The evolution of the manufacturing sector coupled with advancements in digital twin technology has precipitated the extensive integration of digital twin robotic arms within the industrial domain. Notwithstanding this trend, there exists a paucity of studies examining the interaction of these robotic arms in virtual reality (VR) contexts from the user’s standpoint. This paper delves into the virtual interaction of digital twin robotic arms by concentrating on effective guidance methodologies for the input of their target motion trajectories. Such a focus is pivotal to optimize input precision and efficiency, thus contributing to research on the virtual interaction interfaces of these robotic arms. During empirical evaluations, metrics related to human–machine interaction, such as objective operational efficiency, precision, and subjective workload, were meticulously quantified. Moreover, the influence of disparate guidance methods on the interaction experience of digital twin robotic arms and their corresponding scenarios was investigated. Consequent findings offer pivotal insights regarding the efficacy of these guidance methods across various scenarios, thereby serving as an invaluable guide for future endeavors aiming to bolster interactive experiences in devices akin to digital twin robotic arms.

Abstract Background In-stent restenosis (ISR) remains a challenge for coronary artery disease (CAD) patients who undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with stents, and risk factors for ISR are controversial. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors of ISR in patients from southern China. Methods In this retrospective study, patients diagnosed as acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and underwent successful PCI with drug-eluting stent (DES) and conducted a follow-up coronary angiography in Center for Cardiovascular Diseases of Meizhou People’s Hospital at the period of January 1st, 2016 to January 1st, 2021 were included for analysis. The clinical and angiographic factors were compared between patients in ISR ( +) and ISR (−) groups. The association between variables and ISR was evaluated by multivariate logistic regression model. Result A total of 341 ACS patients who had been installed at least 1 stent were included in this study. The follow-up time was 34.2 ± 17.2 months. During the follow-up period, 62 (18.2%) patients experienced ISR, and the average time for ISR was 32.8 months; the incidence of ISR for left main coronary artery, left anterior descending coronary artery, left circumflex artery coronary artery and right coronary artery were 6.7%, 20.9%, 19.4% and 14.4%, respectively; left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), stent number, stent type, statin therapy, antiplatelet therapy were significantly different between patients in ISR ( +) and ISR (−) group. Multivariate logistic analysis suggested that LVEF and stent number were significantly correlated with ISR. Conclusion Our study revealed the incidence and risk factors of ISR in patients from southern China. Our data suggested that LVEF and stent number were independent risk factors associated with ISR.

IntroductionType 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can accelerate cognitive decline and even dementia so that the underlying mechanism deserves further exploration. In the resting state, brain function is still changing dynamically. At present, it is still unknown whether the dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) between various brain regions is in a stable state. It is necessary to interpret brain changes from a new perspective, that is, the stability of brain architecture.MethodsIn this study, we used a fixed dynamic time scale to explore the stability of dynamic functional architecture in T2DM, then the dynamic effective connectivity (dEC) was used to further explain how information flows through dynamically fluctuating brain architecture in T2DM.ResultTwo brain regions with decreased stability were found including the right supra-marginal gyrus (SMG) and the right median cingulate gyrus (MCG) in T2DM subjects. The dEC variation has increased between the left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and the right MCG. The direction of causal flow is from the right MCG to the left IFG.ConclusionThe combination of stability and dEC can not only show the stability of dynamic functional architecture in brain but also reflect the fluidity of brain information, which is an innovative and interesting attempt in the field of neuroimaging. The changes of dynamic architecture in T2DM patients may present an innovative perspective and explanation for their cognitive decline.

Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation enhancement and climate warming are two critical environmental issues worldwide. Understanding the effects of enhanced UV-B radiation on methane (CH4) emission and rice growth in paddy fields are fundamental for human sustainability. In situ field experiments with ambient and supplemental UV-B radiation stresses were conducted in paddy fields subjected to prolonged flooding at Yuanyang Terraces, Southwest China. Annual dynamics and driving factors of CH4 emission were investigated; the effects of enhanced UV-B radiation on soil carbon conversion, enzyme activities and rice growth were studied. Yuanyang Terrace’s CH4 emission levels were 1.6 and 3.3 times higher than China’s and global mean values, respectively. Weather conditions (27.02%) and the stage of rice cultivation (25.65%) were the predominant factors in driving CH4 emission. During the winter fallow period, enhanced UV-B principally affected rice straw and its decomposition, subsequently changing both soil enzyme activities and labile organic carbon levels to reduce CH4 emission. On the other hand, during the rice-growing period, enhanced UV-B affected rice growth, subsequently changing rhizospheric microorganism and soil enzyme activities to reduce CH4 emission. Meanwhile, enhanced UV-B could affect the growing of rice to further change the balance between CH4 and CO2 in the rhizosphere, and the corresponding trade-off could reduce the shifts in global warming potential of rice terraces. In total, enhanced UV-B reduced CH4 emission in the rice terraces by 15.70%, but would increase CO2 and N2O emissions, and negatively affect paddy yields, thus hindering regional food security and sustainable development. Therefore, integrating a consideration of the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions with a concern for food security is a prospect for future research.

ObjectiveThis study aims to explore the changes in the structure, perfusion, and function of the bilateral hippocampus in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) applying multimodal MRI methods, hoping to provide reliable neuroimaging evidence for the diagnosis of hippocampus-related brain injury in T2DM.MethodsWe recruited 30 T2DM patients and 45 healthy controls (HCs), on which we performed 3D T1-weighted images, resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI), arterial spin labeling (ASL) sequences, and a series of cognitive tests. Then, we compared the differences of two groups in the cerebral blood flow (CBF) value, amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) value, fractional ALFF (fALFF) value, coherence-based regional homogeneity (Cohe-ReHo) value, and degree centrality (DC) values of the bilateral hippocampus.ResultsIn the T2DM group, the bilateral hippocampal volumes and the CBF value of the right hippocampus were lower than those in the HCs, while the ALFF value, fALFF value, and Cohe-ReHo value of the bilateral hippocampus were higher than those in the HCs. Correlation analysis showed that fasting blood glucose (FBG) was negatively correlated with the residuals of left hippocampal volume (r = −0.407, P = 0.025) and right hippocampal volume (r = −0.420, P = 0.021). The residual of the auditory-verbal learning test (AVLT) (immediate) score was positively correlated with the residual of right hippocampal volume (r = 0.369, P = 0.045).ConclusionThis study indicated that the volume and perfusion of the hippocampus are decreased in T2DM patients that related to chronic hyperglycemia. Local spontaneous neural activity and coordination are increased in the hippocampus of T2DM patients, possibly as an adaptive compensation for cognitive decline.

Abstract Background The ferroptosis inhibitory gene Solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) provides a new strategy for anticancer treatment. However, its function in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains elusive. Methods The expression and somatic mutation information of SLC7A11 in RCC samples were determined using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Oncomine, and cBioPortal databases. The prognostic value of SLC7A11 was assessed through survival analysis, Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis, independent prognostic analysis, clinical subgroup analysis, and nomogram. Its prognostic value was also validated in the ICGC and GSE29607 cohorts. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was employed to investigate the effects of SLC7A11 on multiple metabolic pathways. The CIBERSORT algorithm and single‐sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) method were applied to evaluate the effects of SLC7A11 on the tumor immune microenvironment (TIM). SLC7A11’s therapeutic correlations were analyzed using the GSE87121, GSE67501, and GSDC datasets. Finally, the biofunctions of SLC7A11 in renal cancer cells and ferroptosis were ascertained by MTT, wound healing, transwell, and western blot assays. Results Through multiple datasets, SLC7A11 was found to be markedly upregulated in RCC. In terms of prognosis, SLC7A11 overexpression conferred a worse prognosis and was identified as an independent prognostic factor. Its prognostic value was validated in ICGC cohort. Moreover, high SL7CA11 expression could stimulate nucleotides, fatty acids, and amino acid metabolism to meet the proliferative consumption of tumor cells. As for the immune effect, SLC7A11 suppressed antitumor immunity by reducing the abundances of CD8+ T and NK cells. Regarding the therapeutic response, SLC7A11 expression was not correlated with the sensitivities of most chemotherapy and targeted drugs. Finally, SLC7A11 promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of renal cancer cells by enhancing GPX4 output, which in turn inhibits ferroptosis. Conclusions SLC7A11 not only deeply influences RCC prognosis and TIM, but also promotes RCC progression by inhibiting ferroptosis and inducing metabolic reprogramming. In addition, SLC7A11 weakly affects the therapeutic effect and sensitivities of multiple chemotherapy and targeted drugs.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to explore the abnormality of local brain function in patients with post-stroke insomnia (PSI) based on fMRI and explore the possible neuropathological mechanisms of insomnia in patients with PSI in combination with the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) score and provide an objective evaluation index for the follow-up study of acupuncture treatment of PSI.MethodsA total of 27 patients with insomnia after stroke were enrolled, and the PSQI was used to evaluate their sleep status. Twenty-seven healthy participants who underwent physical examinations during the same period were selected as controls. Resting-state brain function images and structural images of the two groups of participants were collected, and the abnormal changes in the regional brain function in patients with PSI were analyzed using three methods: regional homogeneity (ReHo), the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and fractional ALFF (fALFF), and a correlation analysis with the PSQI scale score.ResultsCompared with the HCs, the ReHo values of the PSI group in the bilateral lingual gyrus, right cuneus, right precentral and postcentral gyri were significantly lower, and the ReHo values of the left supramarginal gyrus were significantly higher. In the PSI group, the ALFF values in the bilateral lingual gyrus were significantly decreased, whereas those in the bilateral middle temporal gyrus, right inferior temporal gyrus, right inferior frontal gyrus, right limbic lobe, right precuneus, left posterior cingulate gyrus, and left middle occipital gyrus were significantly increased. Compared with HCs, the fALFF values of the bilateral lingual gyrus, bilateral inferior occipital gyrus, and bilateral cuneus in the PSI group were significantly higher. The ReHo value of the left supramarginal gyrus in the PSI group was significantly negatively correlated with the total PSQI score.ConclusionPatients with PSI have abnormal local activities in multiple brain regions, including the visual processing-related cortex, sensorimotor cortex, and some default-mode network (DMN) regions. Over-arousal of the DMN and over-sensitivity of the audiovisual stimuli in patients with PSI may be the main mechanisms of insomnia and can lead to a decline in cognitive function and abnormalities in emotion regulation simultaneously.

Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are used to prevent pulmonary embolism in patients with deep vein thrombosis for whom anticoagulation is unresponsive. The head is a necessary structure for an Inferior vena cava filter (IVCF) in clinic use. At present, there are various head configurations for IVCFs. However, the effect of head pattern on the hemodynamics of IVCF is still a matter of unclear. In this study, computational fluid dynamics is used to simulate non-Newtonian blood flows around four IVCFs with different heads inside an IVC model, in which the Denali filter with a solid and hooked head is employed as a prototype, and three virtual variants are reconstructed either with a no-hook head or with a through-hole head for comparison. The simulation results show that the through-hole head can effectively avoid the recirculation region and weaken the blood flow stasis closely downstream the IVCF head. The shape change of the filter head has no significant effect on the blood flow acceleration inside the IVCF cone as well as little influence on the wall shear stress (WSS) distribution on the filter wire surface and IVC wall. The structure pattern of filter head greatly affects the flow resistance of its own. However, the flow drag of filter head only occupies a small proportion of the total resistance of IVCF. Therefore, to reduce the flow resistance of an IVCF should optimize its whole structure.

Accumulating evidence indicates that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) contribute to myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. However, the underlying mechanisms by which lncRNAs modulate myocardial I/R injury have not been thoroughly examined and require further investigation. A novel lncRNA named lncRNA-hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-associated transcript (lncRNA-HRAT) was identified by RNA sequencing analysis. The expression of lncRNA-HRAT exhibited a significant increase in the I/R mice hearts and cardiomyocytes treated with H/R. LncRNA-HRAT overexpression facilitates H/R-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Furthermore, cardiomyocyte-specific deficiency of lncRNA-HRAT in vivo after I/R decreased creatine kinase (CK) release in the serum, reduced myocardial infarct area, and improved cardiac dysfunction. Molecular mechanistic investigations revealed that lncRNA-HRAT serves as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) of miR-370-3p, thus upregulating the expression of ring finger protein 41 (RNF41), thereby aggravating apoptosis in cardiomyocytes induced by H/R. This study revealed that the lncRNA-HRAT/miR-370-3p/RNF41 pathway regulates cardiomyocyte apoptosis and myocardial injury. These findings suggest that targeted inhibition of lncRNA-HRAT may offer a novel therapeutic method to prevent myocardial I/R injury.

PurposeCognitive impairment is generally found in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Although they may not have visible symptoms of cognitive impairment in the early stages of the disorder, they are considered to be at high risk. Therefore, the classification of these patients is important for preventing the progression of cognitive impairment.MethodsIn this study, a convolutional neural network was used to construct a model for classifying 107 T2DM patients with and without cognitive impairment based on T1-weighted structural MRI. The Montreal cognitive assessment score served as an index of the cognitive status of the patients.ResultsThe classifier could identify T2DM-related cognitive decline with a classification accuracy of 84.85% and achieved an area under the curve of 92.65%.ConclusionsThe model can help clinicians analyze and predict cognitive impairment in patients and enable early treatment.

Ferroptosis is fairly different from other types of cell-death in biochemical processes, morphological changes and genetics as a special programmed cell-death. Here we summarize the current literatures on ferroptosis, including the cascade reaction of key material metabolism in the process, dysfunction of organelles, the relationship between different organelles and the way positive and negative key regulatory factors to affect ferroptosis in the epigenetic level. Based on material metabolism or epigenetic regulation, it is obvious that the regulatory network of ferroptosis is interrelated and complex.

The Chang 7 Member of the Mesozoic Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin mainly developed as a semi-deep to deep lacustrine mudstone and shale.It is the main oil-rich source bed for the Mesozoic reservoir in the basin. Compared with North American marine shale oil, the Chang 7 shale oil has diverse sedimentary facies, poor stratigraphic continuity and strong reservoir heterogeneity, and its enrichment and distribution characteristics are more complicated. The fine scale core descriptions of the Chang 7 Member from more than 30 wells and the experimental testing and analysis of more than 30 000 samples were carried out. The basic geological characteristics and main factors controlling enrichment of shale oil in the Chang 7 source beds were clarified, and the shale oil resource potential was evaluated. A major breakthrough was made in the Chang 7 Member shale oil exploration, and the Qingcheng Oilfield, a 1 billion ton large shale oil field, was discovered in 2019. There are three types of shale oil in the Chang 7 Member of Yanchang Formation, including the source-reservoir differentiation type (type Ⅰ), the source-reservoir integration type (type Ⅱ) and the pure shale type (type Ⅲ). The hydrocarbon source rocks with high abundance of organic matter provides the material base for the enrichment of shale oil, the sandstone reservoirs have numerous micro pores and nano throats, which are the main spaces and seepage channels for shale oil. The inter-distribution of multiple types of fine-grained sediments constitutes a good source-reservoir configuration, and high-intensity hydrocarbon charging and abnormal high pressure form reservoirs with high saturation in source rocks. The Chang 7 Member developed in the Longdong and northern Shaanxi shale oil-bearing areas, and the shale oil reserves have been initially estimated to be 3 to 5 billion tons, showing great exploration and development potential. By 2025, a production base of 5 million tons is expected.

In a sudden shutdown of primary pump or coolant loss accident in a marine nuclear power plant, the primary flow decreases rapidly in a transition process from forced circulation (FC) to natural circulation (NC), and the lower flow enters the steam generator (SG) causing reverse flow in the U-tube. This can significantly compromise the safety of nuclear power plants. Based on the marine natural circulation steam generator (NCSG), an experimental loop is constructed to study the characteristics of reverse flow under middle-temperature and middle-pressure conditions. The transition from FC to NC is simulated experimentally, and the characteristics of SG reverse flow are studied. On this basis, the experimental loop is numerically modeled using RELAP5/MOD3.3 code for system analysis, and the accuracy of the model is verified according to the experimental data. The influence of the flow variation rate on the reverse flow phenomenon and flow distribution is investigated. The experimental and numerical results show that in comparison with the case of adjusting the mass flow discontinuously, the number of reverse flow tubes increases significantly during the transition from FC to NC, and the reverse flow has a more severe impact on the operating characteristics of the SG. With the increase of flow variation rate, the reverse flow is less likely to occur. The mass flow in the reverse flow U-tubes increases at first and then decreases. When the system is approximately stable, the reverse flow is slightly lower than obverse flow in the same U-tube, while the flow in the obverse flow U-tube increases.

The vertically inverted U-tube steam generator (UTSG) is widely used in the pressurized water reactor (PWR). The reverse flow behavior generally exists in some U-tubes of a steam generator (SG) under both single- and two-phase natural circulations (NCs). The behavior increases the flow resistance in the primary loop and reduces the heat transfer in the SG. As a consequence, the NC ability as well as the inherent safety of nuclear reactors is faced with severe challenges. The theoretical models for calculating single- and two-phase flow pressure drops in U-tubes are developed and validated in this paper. The two-phase reverse flow characteristics in two types of SGs are investigated base on the theoretical models, and the effects of the U-tube height, bending radius, inlet steam quality and primary side pressure on the behavior are analyzed. The conclusions may provide some promising references for SG optimization to reduce the disadvantageous behavior. It is also of significance to improve the NC ability and ensure the PWR safety during some accidents. Keywords: Two-phase natural circulation, Reverse flow, UTSG, U-tubes

Introduction: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients suffer from its high recurrence and metastasis rate, and a new prognostic risk score to predict individuals with high possibility of recurrence or metastasis is in urgent need. Autophagy has been found to have a dual influence on tumorigenesis. In this study we aim to analyze autophagy related genes (ATGs) and ccRCC patients and find a new prognostic risk score. Method: Analyzing differential expression genes (DEGs) in TCGA-KIRC dataset, and took intersection with ATGs. Through lasso, univariate, and multivariate cox regression, DEGs were chosen, and the coefficients and expression levels of them were components constructing the formula of risk score. We analyzed mRNA expression of DEGs in tumor and normal tissue in ONCOMINE database and TCGA-KIRC dataset. The Human Protein Atlas (HPA) was used to analyze protein levels of DEGs. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was examined in STRING and visualized in cytoscape. Functional enrichment analysis was performed in RStudio. To prove the ability and practicibility of risk score, we analyzed univariate and multivariate cox regression, Kaplan-Meier curve (K-M curve), risk factor association diagram, receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) of survival and nomogram, and the performance of nomogram was evaluated by calibration curve. Then we further explored functional enrichment related to risk groups through Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and Metascape database. At last, we investigated immune cell infiltration of DEGs and two risk groups through TIMER database and “Cibersort” algorithm.Result: We identified 7 DEGs (BIRC5, CAPS, CLDN7, CLVS1, GMIP, IFI16, and TCIRG1) as components of construction of risk score. All 7 DEGs were differently expressed in ccRCC and normal tissue according to ONCOMINE database and TCGA-KIRC dataset. Functional enrichment analysis indicated DEGs, and their most associated genes were shown to be abundant in autophagy-related pathways and played roles in tumorigenesis and progression processes. A serious analysis proved that this risk score is independent from the risk signature of ccRCC patients.Conclusion: The risk score constructed by 7 DEGs had the ability of predicting prognosis of ccRCC patients and was conducive to the identification of novel prognostic molecular markers. However, further experiment is still needed to verify its ability and practicability.

Aquaporins (AQPs) are a kind of transmembrane proteins that exist in various organs of the human body. AQPs play an important role in regulating water transport, lipid metabolism and glycolysis of cells. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a common malignant tumor of the kidney, and the prognosis is worse than other types of renal cell cancer (RCC). The impact of AQPs on the prognosis of ccRCC and the potential relationship between AQPs and the occurrence and development of ccRCC are demanded to be investigated. In this study, we first explored the expression pattern of AQPs by using Oncomine, UALCAN, and HPA databases. Secondly, we constructed protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and performed function enrichment analysis through STRING, GeneMANIA, and Metascape. Then a comprehensive analysis of the genetic mutant frequency of AQPs in ccRCC was carried out using the cBioPortal database. In addition, we also analyzed the main enriched biological functions of AQPs and the correlation with seven main immune cells. Finally, we confirmed the prognostic value of AQPs throughGEPIA and Cox regression analysis. We found that the mRNA expression levels of AQP0/8/9/10 were up-regulated in patients with ccRCC, while those of AQP1/2/3/4/5/6/7/11 showed the opposite. Among them, the expression differences of AQP1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/11 were statistically significant. The differences in protein expression levels of AQP1/2/3/4/5/6 in ccRCC and normal renal tissues were consistent with the change trends of mRNA. The biological functions of AQPs were mainly concentrated in water transport, homeostasis maintenance, glycerol transport, and intracellular movement of sugar transporters. The high mRNA expression levels of AQP0/8/9 were significantly correlated with worse overall survival (OS), while those of AQP1/4/7 were correlated with better OS. AQP0/1/4/9 were prognostic-related factors, and AQP1/9 were independent prognostic factors. In general, this research has investigated the values of AQPs in ccRCC, which could become new survival markers for ccRCC targeted therapy.

Objective: We aimed to explore whether the percent amplitude of fluctuation (PerAF) measurement could provide supplementary information for amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) about spontaneous activity alteration in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) subjects without mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Then we further evaluated the synchronization through the method of functional connectivity (FC) to better demonstrate brain changes in a more comprehensive manner in T2DM.Methods: Thirty T2DM subjects without MCI and thirty well-matched healthy subjects were recruited in this study. Subjects’ clinical data, neuropsychological test results, and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data were acquired. Voxel-based group difference comparisons between PerAF and ALFF were conducted. Then, seed-based FC between the recognized brain regions based on PerAF and ALFF and the rest of the whole brain was performed.Results: Compared with healthy group, T2DM group had significantly decreased PerAF in the bilateral middle occipital gyrus and the right calcarine, increased ALFF in the right orbital inferior frontal gyrus and decreased ALFF in the right calcarine. Seed-based FC analysis showed that the right middle occipital gyrus of T2DM subjects exhibited significantly decreased FC with the right caudate nucleus and right putamen. According to the partial correlation analyses, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and immediate memory scores on the auditory verbal learning test (AVLT) were negatively correlated in the T2DM group. However, we found that total cholesterol was positively correlated with symbol digit test (SDT) scores.Conclusion: PerAF and ALFF may have different sensitivities in detecting the abnormal spontaneous brain activity in T2DM subjects. We suggest PerAF values may add supplementary information and indicate additional potential neuronal spontaneous activity in T2DM subjects without MCI, which may provide new insights into the neuroimaging mechanisms underlying early diabetes-associated cognitive decline.

The massive burning of a large amount of fossil energy has caused a lot of serious environmental issues (e.g., air pollution and climate change), urging people to efficiently explore and valorize sustainable alternatives. Biomass is being deemed as the only organic carbon-containing renewable resource for the production of net-zero carbon emission fuels and fine chemicals. Regarding this, the selective transformation of high-oxygen biomass feedstocks by catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) is a very promising strategy to realize the carbon cycle. Among them, the important Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reaction is believed to be capable of replacing the traditional hydrogenation strategy which generally requires high-pressure H2 and precious metals, aiming to upgrade biomass into downstream biochemical products and fuels. Employing bifunctional heterogeneous catalysts with both acidic and basic sites is needed to catalyze the MPV reaction, which is the key point for domino/cascade reaction in one pot that can eliminate the relevant complicated separation/purification step. Zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf), belonging to transition metals, rich in reserves, can demonstrate similar catalytic efficiency for MPV reaction as that of precious metals. This review introduced the application of recyclable heterogeneous non-noble Zr/Hf-containing catalysts with acid-base bifunctionality for CTH reaction using the safe liquid hydrogen donor. The corresponding catalysts were classified into different types including Zr/Hf-containing metal oxides, supported materials, zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, metal-organic hybrids, and their respective pros and cons were compared and discussed comprehensively. Emphasis was placed on evaluating the bifunctionality of catalytic material and the key role of the active site corresponding to the structure of the catalyst in the MPV reaction. Finally, a concise summary and prospect were also provided centering on the development and suggestion of Zr/Hf-containing acid-base bifunctional catalysts for CTH.

Objective: Cognitive impairment in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients is related to changes in hippocampal structure and function. However, the alternation of hippocampal subfields volumes and their relationship with cognitive function are unclear. This study explored morphological alterations in the hippocampus and its subfields in T2DM patients and their relationship with cognitive function.Methods: Thirty T2DM patients and 20 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited and underwent 3-dimensional, high-resolution T1-weighted sequence (3D-T1) and a battery of cognitive tests. Freesurfer 6.0 was performed to segment the hippocampus into 12 subregions automatically. Then relationships between hippocampal subfield volumes and neurocognitive scale scores in the T2DM group were evaluated.Results: Immediate memory scores on the auditory verbal learning test (AVLT) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores in T2DM patients were lower than in the HCs. T2DM patients showed that volumes of the bilateral hippocampus were significantly reduced, mainly in the bilateral molecular layer, granule cell and molecular layer of the dentate gyrus (GC-ML-DG), cornu ammonis 4 (CA4), fimbria, and left subiculum and the right hippocampus amygdala transition area (HATA) compared to HCs. In addition, T2DM patients showed the FINS was negatively correlated with volume of left GC-ML-DG (r = −0.415, P = 0.035) and left CA4 (r = −0.489, P = 0.011); the FBG was negatively correlated with volume of right fimbria (r = −0.460, P = 0.018); the HOMA-IR was negatively correlated with volume of left GC-ML-DG (r = −0.367, P = 0.046) and left CA4(r = 0.462, P = 0.010). Partial correlation analysis found that the volume of right HATA in T2DM group was positively correlated with AVLT (immediate) scores (r = 0.427, P = 0.03).Conclusion: This study showed the volumes of multiple hippocampal subfields decreased and they were correlated with FINS, FBG and HOMA-IR in T2DM patients. We hypothesized that decreased hippocampal subfields volumes in T2DM patients was related to insulin resistance and impaired vascular function. In addition, we also found that abnormal hippocampal subfields volumes were related to memory function in T2DM patients, suggesting that reduced volumes in specific hippocampal subfields may be the potential mechanism of memory dysfunction in these patients.

Background: Structural and functional brain alterations that underlie cognitive decline have been observed in elderly adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); however, whether these alterations can be observed in patients with early-onset T2DM remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to describe the abnormalities in brain volume and functional patterns in patients with early-onset T2DM in the present study.Methods: We enrolled 20 patients with early-onset T2DM and 20 healthy controls (HCs). Changes in brain volume were assessed using voxel-based morphology (VBM), while changes in brain function were assessed using degree centrality (DC) and functional connectivity (FC).Results: Compared to HCs, patients with early-onset T2DM exhibited gray matter reductions in the left orbital superior, middle, and inferior frontal gyri as well as the right superior frontal gyrus. The gray matter reductions in the right superior frontal gyrus were negatively associated with the urine albumin to creatinine ratio. Furthermore, increased DC values were observed in the left superior temporal gyrus, left Heschl gyrus, and left hippocampus in patients with early-onset T2DM. An FC analysis of these regions revealed elevated connectivity in the right precuneus, left inferior parietal gyrus, left Heschl gyrus, bilateral post-central gyrus, bilateral insula, bilateral superior temporal gyrus, and bilateral medial and paracingulate gyrus. Furthermore, the FC of the hubs to the superior temporal gyrus, insula, and Heschl gyrus was increased and positively correlated with trail making test-B.Conclusion: Decreased local gray matter volume and increased DC and FC may represent the neurobiological mechanism underlying cognitive dysfunction in patients with early-onset T2DM.

Sleep deprivation (SD) may lead to serious myocardial injury in cardiovascular diseases. Saponins extracted from the roots of Panax notoginseng, a traditional Chinese medicine beneficial to blood circulation and hemostasis, are the main bioactive components exerting cardiovascular protection in the treatment of heart disorders, such as arrhythmia, ischemia and reperfusion injury, and cardiac hypertrophy. This study aimed to explore the protective effect of stem-leaf saponins from Panax notoginseng (SLSP) on myocardial injury in SD mice. SD was induced by a modified multi-platform method. Cardiac morphological changes were assessed by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. Heart rate and ejection fraction were detected by specific instruments. Serum levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured with biochemical kits. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), immunofluorescent, and Western blotting analysis were used to observe the process and pathway of autophagy and apoptosis in heart tissue of SD mice. In vitro, rat H9c2 cells pretreated with rapamycin and the effect of SLSP were explored by acridine orange staining, transient transfection, flow cytometry, and Western blotting analysis. SLSP prevented myocardial injury, such as morphological damage, accumulation of autophagosomes in heart tissue, abnormal high heart rate, serum ANP, and serum LDH induced by SD. In addition, it reversed the expressions of proteins involved in the autophagy and apoptosis and activated PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway that is disturbed by SD. On H9c2 cells induced by rapamycin, SLSP could markedly resume the abnormal autophagy and apoptosis. Collectively, SLSP attenuated excessive autophagy and apoptosis in myocardial cells in heart tissue induced by SD, which might be acted through activating PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.

Sleep deprivation (SD) may cause serious neural injury in the central nervous system, leading to impairment of learning and memory. Melatonin receptor 1A (MTNR1A) plays an important role in the sleep regulation upon activation by melatonin. The present study aimed to investigate if notoginsenoside R1 (NGR1), an active compound isolated from Panax notoginseng, could alleviate neural injury, thus improve impaired learning and memory of SD mice, as well as to explore its underlying action mechanism through modulating MTNR1A. Our results showed that NGR1 administration improved the impaired learning and memory of SD mice. NGR1 prevented the morphological damage and the accumulation of autophagosomes in the hippocampus of SD mice. At the molecular level, NGR1 reversed the expressions of proteins involved in autophagy and apoptosis, such as beclin-1, LC3B, p62, Bcl-2, Bax, and cleaved-caspase 3. Furthermore, the effect of NGR1 was found to be closely related with the MTNR1A-mediated PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. On HT-22 cells induced by autophagy inducer rapamycin, NGR1 markedly attenuated excessive autophagy and apoptosis, and the alleviative effect was abolished by the MTNR1A inhibitor. Taken together, NGR1 was shown to alleviate the impaired learning and memory of SD mice, and its function might be exerted through reduction of excessive autophagy and apoptosis of hippocampal neurons by regulating the MTNR1A-mediated PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.

ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to (1) explore the changes in topological properties of static and dynamic brain functional networks after nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) radiotherapy (RT) using rs-fMRI and graph theoretical analysis, (2) explore the correlation between cognitive function and changes in brain function, and (3) add to the understanding of the pathogenesis of radiation brain injury (RBI).MethodsFifty-four patients were divided into 3 groups according to time after RT: PT1 (0–6 months); PT2 (>6 to ≤12 months); and PT3 (>12 months). 29 normal controls (NCs) were included. The subjects’ topological properties were evaluated by graph-theoretic network analysis, the functional connectivity of static functional networks was calculated using network-based statistics, and the dynamic functional network matrix was subjected to cluster analysis. Finally, correlation analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between the altered network parameters and cognitive function.ResultsAssortativity, hierarchy, and network efficiency were significantly abnormal in the PT1 group compared with the NC or PT3 group. The small-world variance in the PT3 group was smaller than that in NCs. The Nodal ClustCoeff of Postcentral_R in the PT2 group was significantly smaller than that in PT3 and NC groups. Functional connectivities were significantly reduced in the patient groups. Most of the functional connectivities of the middle temporal gyrus (MTG) were shown to be significantly reduced in all three patient groups. Most of the functional connectivities of the insula showed significantly reduced in the PT1 and PT3 groups, and most of the functional connectivities in brain regions such as frontal and parietal lobes showed significantly reduced in the PT2 and PT3 groups. These abnormal functional connectivities were correlated with scores on multiple scales that primarily assessed memory, executive ability, and overall cognitive function. The frequency F of occurrence of various states in each subject differed significantly, and the interaction effect of group and state was significant.ConclusionThe disruption of static and dynamic functional network stability, reduced network efficiency and reduced functional connectivity may be potential biomarkers of RBI. Our findings may provide new insights into the pathogenesis of RBI from the perspective of functional networks.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) exist widely in soil polluted by heavy metals and have significant effects on plant growth and cadmium (Cd) uptake. Cd contents differ among wasteland, farmland and slopeland soils in a lead-zinc mining area in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. The effects of AMF on maize growth, root morphology, low-molecular-weight organic acid (LMWOA) concentrations and Cd uptake were investigated via a root-bag experiment. The results show that AMF increased maize growth on Cd-polluted soils, resulting in increases in root length, surface area, volume and branch number, with the effects being stronger in farmland than in wasteland and slopeland soils; increased malic acid and succinic acid secretion 1.3-fold and 1.1-fold, respectively, in roots on farmland soil; enhanced the iron- and manganese-oxidized Cd concentration by 22.6%, and decreased the organic-bound Cd concentration by 12.9% in the maize rhizosphere on farmland soil; and increased Cd uptake 12.5-fold and 1.7-fold in shoots and by 25.7% and 86.6% in roots grown on farmland and slopeland soils, respectively. Moreover, shoot Cd uptake presented significant positive correlations with root surface area and volume and LMWOA concentrations. Thus, these results indicated the possible mechanism that the increased maize Cd uptake induced by AMF was closely related to their effect on root morphology and LMWOA secretion, with the effects varying under different Cd pollution levels.

Self-healing materials as a type of promising smart materials are gradually applied to electronics, biology, and engineering. In this study, we used in situ polymerization to make melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin microcapsules to wrap the epoxy oxide as a repairing agent and Cu(MI)4Br2 as a latent-curing agent to protect epoxy oxide E-51 from broken melamine-formaldehyde resin microcapsules. In addition, graphene oxide was used as a reinforcing phase through its two-dimensional-layered structure to increase the tensile strength to 41.91 MPa, which is higher than the initial materials. The melamine-formaldehyde capsules and latent-curing agents were uniformly distributed in the materials according to the digital photos and scanning electron microscope (SEM) pictures. It is worth noting that the mechanical strength of the broken materials can be restored to 35.65 MPa after heating to 130°C for 2 h to repair the damage, and the self-healing efficiency reached up to 85.06%. Furthermore, we also fabricated the 4D printed material with a tensile strength of 50.93 MPa through a 3D printer. The obtained materials showed excellent repair effect, with a recovery rate of up to 87.22%. This study confirms that the designed self-healing system has potential applications in many areas due to its excellent self-healing performance, which provides valuable guidance for designing the 4D system.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a comprehensive term for chronic or relapsing inflammatory diseases occurring in the intestinal tract, generally including Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Presently, the pathogenesis of IBD is unknown, yet multiple factors have been reported to be related with the development of IBD. Flavonoids are phytochemicals with biological activity, which are ubiquitously distributed in edible plants, such as fruits and vegetables. Recent studies have demonstrated impressively that flavonoids have anti-IBD effects through multiple mechanisms. These include anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions; the preservation of the epithelial barrier integrity, the intestinal immunomodulatory property, and the shaping microbiota composition and function. In addition, a few studies have shown the impact of flavonoids on enterohormones release; nonetheless, there is hardly any work showing the link between flavonoids, enterohormones release and IBD. So far, the interaction between flavonoids, enterohormones and IBD is elucidated for the first time in this review. Furthermore, the inference can be drawn that flavonoids may protect against IBD through modulating enterohormones, such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), GLP-2, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4 inhibitors), ghrelin and cholecystokinin (CCK). In conclusion, this manuscript explores a possible mechanism of flavonoids protecting against IBD.
