The recovery of coseismic 3-dimensional (3D) surface deformation field plays a crucial role in studying seismic source characteristics and earthquake hazards. As of now, there are two main types of methods for recovering coseismic 3D surface deformations: the first type is to solve the problem directly by using the least squares method based on observations from three or more viewpoints, and the second type solves the problem by combining ascending and descending InSAR line-of-sight (LOS) observations with constraint models. The former type is mainly applicable to surface rupture earthquakes, because when an earthquake ruptures to the surface, we can usually obtain surface deformation observations from three or more views. The latter type applies to earthquakes that do not cause surface ruptures and have extensive blind faults. Currently, most research focuses on improving the above types of methods. However, some key factors in the coseismic 3D surface deformation inversion are rarely mentioned, such as the influence of window size on the inversion results in the strain model and variance component estimation method (SM-VCE), and whether the outliers in the observational data are considered. So, we developed a new chain of integrating InSAR observation and SM-VCE model to systematically assess the impacts of window size and outliers on coseismic 3D surface deformation inversions. Through simulation experiments, we observed that the selection of window size significantly impacts the accuracy of the results. Specifically, larger window sizes lead to wider residuals ranges in the fault region, resulting in the loss of extreme solution values when using a window of 15 × 15 pixels (i.e., 7.5 km × 7.5 km). Hence, we recommend utilizing windows with 7 × 7 pixels or 9 × 9 pixels for optimal accuracy, as larger window sizes diminish the significance of the outcomes. The elimination of points displaying different deformation directions helps reduce residuals and preserves near-field deformation results. Furthermore, the residuals along the 3D direction can be reduced by 10%–30% when a small set of points is selected using a method based on Euclidean distances. However, when 441 points were selected, the vertical residuals increased by 22% compared to 81 points. Integration of the SM-VCE algorithm with robust estimation techniques effectively minimizes far-field deformation errors in data, thereby marginally enhancing the near-field deformation solution.

Background: Endoscopy is important for the diagnosis and treatment of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB), especially acute variceal bleeding (AVB), in liver cirrhosis. However, the optimal timing of endoscopy remains controversial, primarily because the currently available evidence is of poor quality, and the definition of early endoscopy is also very heterogeneous among studies. Herein, a multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) is performed to explore the impact of the timing of endoscopy on the outcomes of cirrhotic patients with AVB. Methods: A total of 368 cirrhotic patients presenting with AUGIB who are highly suspected to be from AVB will be enrolled. They will be stratified according to the severity of liver function and clinical presentation at admission and then randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio into early (within 12 h after admission) and delayed (within 12–24 h after admission) endoscopy groups within each stratum. The primary outcomes include the rates of 5-day failure to control bleeding after admission and 6-week rebleeding. The secondary outcomes include 6-week mortality and incidence of adverse events. Conclusion: Considering existing evidence originates from non-randomized studies, this RCT will provide high-quality evidence to uncover whether cirrhotic patients with AVB should undergo early endoscopy to control bleeding and improve survival. Background and objectives: Exosomes, which are small nanoscale vesicles capable of secretion, have garnered significant attention in recent years because of their therapeutic potential, particularly in the context of kidney diseases. Notably, human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (hucMSC-Exos) are emerging as promising targeted therapies for renal conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of hucMSC-Exos on diabetic kidney disease (DKD) both in vivo and in vitro. Additionally, this study seeks to elucidate cellular and molecular differentials, as well as the expression of relevant signaling pathways, through single-cell RNA sequencing. This endeavor was designed to enhance our understanding of the connection between hucMSC-Exos and the pathogenesis of DKD. Methods and results: The study commenced with the extraction and characterization of hucMSC-Exos, including the determination of their concentrations. Animal experiments were conducted to evaluate the therapeutic potential of hucMSC-Exos in a DKD mouse model. Subsequently, single-cell sequencing was employed to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the efficacy of extracellular vesicles in ameliorating DKD. These findings were further substantiated by cell-based experiments. Importantly, the results indicate that hucMSC-Exos can impede the progression of DKD in mice, with macrophage activation playing a pivotal role in this process. Conclusions: The in vivo experiments conclusively established hucMSC-Exos as a pivotal component in preserving renal function and retarding the progression of DKD. Our utilization of single-cell sequencing technology, in conjunction with in vivo and in vitro experiments, provides compelling evidence that M2 macrophages are instrumental in enhancing the amelioration of diabetic nephropathy.

The digital twin is the concept of transcending reality, which is the reverse feedback from the real physical space to the virtual digital space. People hold great prospects for this emerging technology. In order to realize the upgrading of the digital twin industrial chain, it is urgent to introduce more modalities, such as vision, haptics, hearing and smell, into the virtual digital space, which assists physical entities and virtual objects in creating a closer connection. Therefore, perceptual understanding and object recognition have become an urgent hot topic in the digital twin. Existing surface material classification schemes often achieve recognition through machine learning or deep learning in a single modality, ignoring the complementarity between multiple modalities. In order to overcome this dilemma, we propose a multimodal fusion network in our article that combines two modalities, visual and haptic, for surface material recognition. On the one hand, the network makes full use of the potential correlations between multiple modalities to deeply mine the modal semantics and complete the data mapping. On the other hand, the network is extensible and can be used as a universal architecture to include more modalities. Experiments show that the constructed multimodal fusion network can achieve 99.42% classification accuracy while reducing complexity.

Autoimmune diseases (AID) have emerged as prominent contributors to disability and mortality worldwide, characterized by intricate pathogenic mechanisms involving genetic, environmental, and autoimmune factors. In response to this challenge, a growing body of research in recent years has delved into genetic modifications, yielding valuable insights into AID prevention and treatment. Sirtuins (SIRTs) constitute a class of NAD-dependent histone deacetylases that orchestrate deacetylation processes, wielding significant regulatory influence over cellular metabolism, oxidative stress, immune response, apoptosis, and aging through epigenetic modifications. Resveratrol, the pioneering activator of the SIRTs family, and its derivatives have captured global scholarly interest. In the context of AID, these compounds hold promise for therapeutic intervention by modulating the SIRTs pathway, impacting immune cell functionality, suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators, and mitigating tissue damage. This review endeavors to explore the potential of resveratrol and its derivatives in AID treatment, elucidating their mechanisms of action and providing a comprehensive analysis of current research advancements and obstacles. Through a thorough examination of existing literature, our objective is to advocate for the utilization of resveratrol and its derivatives in AID treatment while offering crucial insights for the formulation of innovative therapeutic approaches.

Recently, the development of the Metaverse has become a frontier spotlight, which is an important demonstration of the integration innovation of advanced technologies in the Internet. Moreover, artificial intelligence (AI) and 6G communications will be widely used in our daily lives. However, the effective interactions with the representations of multimodal data among users via 6G communications is the main challenge in the Metaverse. In this work, we introduce an intelligent cross-modal graph semantic communication approach based on generative AI and 3-dimensional (3D) point clouds to improve the diversity of multimodal representations in the Metaverse. Using a graph neural network, multimodal data can be recorded by key semantic features related to the real scenarios. Then, we compress the semantic features using a graph transformer encoder at the transmitter, which can extract the semantic representations through the cross-modal attention mechanisms. Next, we leverage a graph semantic validation mechanism to guarantee the exactness of the overall data at the receiver. Furthermore, we adopt generative AI to regenerate multimodal data in virtual scenarios. Simultaneously, a novel 3D generative reconstruction network is constructed from the 3D point clouds, which can transfer the data from images to 3D models, and we infer the multimodal data into the 3D models to increase realism in virtual scenarios. Finally, the experiment results demonstrate that cross-modal graph semantic communication, assisted by generative AI, has substantial potential for enhancing user interactions in the 6G communications and Metaverse.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease with multifactorial pathogenesis; histone demethylases (HDMs) are emerging as attractive targets. We identified HDM genes (including KDM5C, KDM6B, KDM8, KDM4A, and JMJD7) that were differentially expressed in NAFLD and normal samples by exploring gene expression profiling datasets. There was no significant difference in the expression of genes related to histone demethylation between mild and advanced NAFLD. In vitro and in vivo studies indicated that KDM6B and JMJD7 were upregulated at the mRNA level in NAFLD. We explored the expression levels and prognostic values of the identified HDM genes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). KDM5C and KDM4A were upregulated in HCC compared to normal tissue, while KDM8 showed downregulation. The abnormal expression levels of these HDMs could provide prognostic values. Furthermore, KDM5C and KDM4A were associated with immune cell infiltration in HCC. HDMs were associated with cellular and metabolic processes and may be involved in the regulation of gene expression. Differentially expressed HDM genes identified in NAFLD may provide value to understanding pathogenesis and in the development of epigenetic therapeutic targets. However, on the basis of the inconsistent results of in vitro studies, future in vivo experiments combined with transcriptomic analysis are needed for further validation.

Abstract Bleeding risk factors for gastroesophageal varices (GEV) detected by endoscopy in cirrhotic patients determine the prophylactical treatment patients will undergo in the following 2 years. We propose a methodology for measuring the risk factors. We create an artificial intelligence system (ENDOANGEL-GEV) containing six models to segment GEV and to classify the grades (grades 1–3) and red color signs (RC, RC0-RC3) of varices. It also summarizes changes in the above results with region in real time. ENDOANGEL-GEV is trained using 6034 images from 1156 cirrhotic patients across three hospitals (dataset 1) and validated on multicenter datasets with 11009 images from 141 videos (dataset 2) and in a prospective study recruiting 161 cirrhotic patients from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (dataset 3). In dataset 1, ENDOANGEL-GEV achieves intersection over union values of 0.8087 for segmenting esophageal varices and 0.8141 for gastric varices. Antibacterial protein hydrogels are receiving increasing attention in the aspect of bacteria-infected-wound healing. However, bacterial drug resistance and biofilm infections lead to hard healing of wounds, thus the construction of biological agents that can overcome these issues is essential. Here, a simple and universal method to construct antibiotic-free protein hydrogel with excellent biocompatibility and superior antibacterial activity against drug-resistant bacteria and biofilms was developed. The green industrial microbicide tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate (THPS) as cross-linking agent can be quickly cross-linked with model protein bovine serum albumin (BSA) to form antibacterial hydrogel through simple mixing without any other initiators, subsequently promoting drug-resistance bacteria-infected wound healing. This simple gelatinization strategy allows at least ten different proteins to form hydrogels (e.g. BSA, human serum albumin (HSA), egg albumin, chymotrypsin, trypsin, lysozyme, transferrin, myohemoglobin, hemoglobin, and phycocyanin) under the same conditions, showing prominent universality. Furthermore, drug-resistance bacteria and biofilm could be efficiently destroyed by the representative BSA hydrogel (B-Hydrogel) with antibacterial activity, overcoming biofilm-induced bacterial resistance. The in vivo study demonstrated that the B-Hydrogel as wound dressing can promote reepithelization to accelerate the healing of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected skin wounds without inducing significant side-effect. This readily accessible antibiotic-free protein-based hydrogel not only opens an avenue to provide a facile, feasible and general gelation strategy, but also exhibits promising application in hospital and community MRSA disinfection and treatment.

BackgroundOxidative stress is an important contributor to the progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but whether dietary and lifestyle pro- and antioxidants may have combined or independent effects on NAFLD, and advanced liver fibrosis (AHF) remains unclear. We aimed to elucidate the relationship between a well-established oxidative balance score (OBS) and NAFLD/AHF.MethodsThis was a cross-sectional study. We included adult participants with complete data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999–2018. Survey-weighted adjusted multivariate regression analyses were used to examine the association of all OBS with NAFLD/AHF. A combination of restricted cubic splines, mediation analysis, stratified analysis, and sensitivity analysis were used to further elucidate these associations.ResultsWe included 6,341 eligible adult participants with prevalence of NAFLD and AHF of 30.2 and 13.9%, respectively. In the fully adjusted model, the highest quartile of OBS, dietary OBS, and lifestyle OBS were associated with 65, 55, and 77% reduced risk of NAFLD, respectively, compared with the reference population, respectively. However, all OBS were not associated with the risk of AHF. All OBS were nonlinearly associated with risk of NAFLD and had a more pronounced reduced risk for OBS, dietary OBS, and lifestyle OBS after exceeding 26, 21, and 5 points, respectively. OBS may exert a protective effect indirectly through inflammation, oxidative stress, and glycolipid metabolism markers. Stratification and sensitivity analyses demonstrate the robustness of our findings.ConclusionAll OBS were nonlinearly and negatively associated with NAFLD risk. These effects may exert indirectly through inflammation, oxidative stress, and glycolipid metabolism markers.

To examine the three-dimensional texture structure of SMA-13 asphalt pavement and assess its anti-skid performance, a light gradient-boosting machine evaluation model was developed using non-contact three-dimensional laser-scanning technology. The study focused on collecting three-dimensional texture data from newly laid SMA-13 asphalt pavement. Subsequently, wavelet transform was employed to reconstruct the pavement’s three-dimensional texture, and discrete Fourier transform was utilized to separate macro- and microtextures, enabling the calculation of their characteristics. The macro- and micro-characteristics of the three-dimensional texture and friction coefficient were input into the model. A comparative analysis with linear regression and a random forest model revealed superior accuracy and efficiency in the model. The training set R2 is 0.948, and the testing set R2 is 0.842, effectively enabling the evaluation of pavement anti-skid performance. An analysis of parameter importance indicated that Rku and MPD are still effective indicators for evaluating skid resistance. Furthermore, diverse texture indexes exhibited varying effects on the anti-skid performance. The established asphalt pavement anti-skid evaluation model serves as a theoretical foundation for understanding the actual influence on pavement anti-skid performance.

The advancement of millimeter wave (mmWave) technology can meet the requirements of large amounts of data communications among intelligent devices for indoor scenarios. However, reducing interference in an enclosed region is still challenging because the human body becomes the main blockage in indoor scenarios. In this paper we develop a robust system to exploit the self-blockage model for analysing the side effect of the human body and adopting a multi-ball Line of Sight (LOS) link state model to describe the conventional blockage. The combination of self-blockage and link state models will provide a more comprehensive and accurate expression for indoor obstacles that disturb the communication robustness. Besides, we formulate the resource allocation as a robust optimization problem, where the proposed optimization function is to achieve the maximum throughput by minimizing interference. We have given a closed expression of coverage rate to analyze the system performance. The simulation results show that the proposed model can accurately describe the distribution of blockages for indoor cases.

Background: COVID-19 has rapidly become a major health emergency worldwide. The characteristic, outcome, and risk factor of COVID-19 in patients with decompensated cirrhosis remain unclear. Methods: Medical records were collected from 23 Chinese hospitals. Patients with decompensated cirrhosis and age- and sex-matched non-liver disease patients were enrolled with 1:4 ratio using stratified sampling. Results: There were more comorbidities with higher Chalson Complication Index (p < 0.001), higher proportion of patients having gastrointestinal bleeding, jaundice, ascites, and diarrhea among those patients (p < 0.05) and in decompensated cirrhosis patients. Mortality (p < 0.05) and the proportion of severe ill (p < 0.001) were significantly high among those patients. Patients in severe ill subgroup had higher mortality (p < 0.001), MELD, and CRUB65 score but lower lymphocytes count. Besides, this subgroup had larger proportion of patients with abnormal (PT), activated partial thromboplatin time (APTT), D-Dimer, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total bilirubin (TBL) and Creatinine (Cr) (p < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression for severity shown that MELD and CRUB65 score reached significance. Higher Child-Pugh and CRUB65 scores were found among non-survival cases and multivariate logistic regression further inferred risk factors for adverse outcome. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves also provided remarkable demonstrations for the predictive ability of Child-Pugh and CRUB65 scores. Conclusions: COVID-19 patients with cirrhosis had larger proportion of more severely disease and higher mortality. MELD and CRUB65 score at hospital admission may predict COVID-19 severity while Child-Pugh and CRUB65 score were highly associated with non-survival among those patients.

Adipose tissue has been shown to play a key role in energy metabolism and it has been shown to regulate metabolic homeostasis through the secretion of adipokines. Neuregulin 4 (Nrg4), a novel adipokine secreted mainly by brown adipose tissue (BAT), has recently been characterized as having an important effect on the regulation of energy homeostasis and glucolipid metabolism. Nrg4 can modulate BAT-related thermogenesis by increasing sympathetic innervation of adipose tissue and therefore has potential metabolic benefits. Nrg4 improves metabolic dysregulation in various metabolic diseases such as insulin resistance, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and diabetes through several mechanisms such as anti-inflammation, autophagy regulation, pro-angiogenesis, and lipid metabolism normalization. However, inconsistent findings are found regarding the effects of Nrg4 on metabolic diseases in clinical settings, and this heterogeneity needs to be further clarified by future studies. The potential metabolic protective effect of Nrg4 suggests that it may be a promising endocrine therapeutic target.

The cause of some patients with negative RT-PCR results experienced turn-positive after treatment remains unclear. In addition, understanding the correlation between changes in clinical data in the course of COVID-19 and treatment outcomes is of great importance in determining the prognosis of COVID-19. To perform cause analysis of RT-PCR turn-positive and the effective screening factors related to treatment outcome in COVID-19. Clinical data, including clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, radiography results, treatment methods and outcomes, were retrospectively collected and analyzed from January to March 2020 in Renmin Hospitals of Wuhan University. 116 COVID-19 patients (40 in recurrent group, 29 in recovered group and 47 in unrecovered group) were recruited. In the recurrent group, white blood cell, Neutrophils, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, CD3, CD4, CD8, ratio of CD4/CD8, IgG and C4 complement were of significant difference among the baseline, negative and turn-positive time points. CD19 and CT scan results were found notable difference between recurrent group and recovered group. Odds from CD3, CD4, CD8, CD19, IgM, C3 complement, C4 complement and CT scan results validated associations with clinical outcomes of COVID-19. The so-called recurrence in some COVID-19 patients may be due to the false-negative of nucleic acid test results from nasopharyngeal swabs. Levels of CD3, CD4, CD8, CD19, IgM, C3 complement, C4 complement and CT results were significantly correlated with the outcome of COVID-19. The cellular immunity test could be beneficial to further screen the reliability of RT-PCR test on the basis of CT images.

Clostridium difficile is a Gram-positive bacillus with fecal-oral transmission and is currently one of the most common nosocomial infections worldwide, which was renamed Clostridioides difficile in 2016. Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is a prevalent infection in cirrhosis and negatively affects prognosis. This study aimed to provide a concise review with clinical practice implications. The prevalence of CDI in cirrhotic patients increases, while the associated mortality decreases. Multiple groups of risk factors increase the likelihood of CDI in patients with cirrhosis, such as antibiotic use, the severity of cirrhosis, some comorbidities, and demographic aspects. Treatment in the general population is currently described in the latest guidelines. In patients with cirrhosis, rifaximin and lactulose have been shown to reduce CDI risk due to their modulatory effects on the intestinal flora, although conflicting results exist. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) as a treatment for the second or subsequent CDI recurrences has demonstrated a good safety and efficacy in cirrhosis and CDI. Future validation in more prospective studies is needed. Screening of asymptomatic patients appears to be discouraged for the prevention currently, with strict hand hygiene and cleaning of the ward and medical equipment surfaces being the cornerstone of minimizing transmission.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that serum N-terminal proB-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) was a predictor of adverse cardiovascular outcomes after surgery. We performed a prospective study to evaluate if NT-proBNP could be a sensitive marker of overall postoperative outcomes in older patients undergoing major elective non-cardiac surgery when combined with myoglobin (MYO).Methods: Two hundred and three adults aged ≥65 years were enrolled in the study. The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status of patients were I to IV. Blood samples would be taken before and 2 h after the surgery for each patients and NT-proBNP and MYO concentrations (NT-proBNP baseline/ 2 h and MYO baseline/ 2 h) of these samples would be measured immediately. The primary outcome was moderate to severe complications, which were based on the Clavien–Dindo Classification (CDC) scheme (≥CDC grade 3), and the secondary outcomes were major complications within 30 days after surgery. This study was registered at China Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR1900026223, http://www.chictr.org.cn/).Results: Overall, moderate to severe complications occurred in 15 patients (7.4%) and major complications occurred in 18 patients (8.9%). Both preoperative and postoperative NT-proBNP values were independent predictors of moderate to severe complications (area under the curve (AUC), 0.820; 95% CI: 0.728, 0.912, P < 0.001; AUC, 0.785; 95% CI: 0.685, 0.885, P < 0.001). When NT-proBNP baseline and MYO-2 h were combined (NT-proBNP baseline × MYO-2 h), the predictive power was improved (AUC 0.841, 95% CI: 0.758, 0.923, P < 0.001).Conclusions: A combination of perioperative NT-proBNP and postoperative MYO concentrations was a good predictor of postoperative complications in elderly patients who underwent major non-cardiac surgery. Using fast and dynamic tests provided by point-to-care-testing, NT-proBNP and MYO concentration measurements provided useful guidance for therapy before or soon after surgery, thus helping to reduce postoperative complications in elderly patients.

Abstract Background Coronary artery disease (CAD) including acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a common complex disease caused by atherosclerosis. Vascular epithelial growth factor receptor-1 (VEGFR-1) stimulates angiogenesis and vascular permeability, and functions as a decoy to sequester VEGF and prevent initiation of intracellular signaling. VEGFR-1 knockout mice exhibit significantly higher mortality due to heart failure, cardiac hypertrophy, and cardiac dysfunction. An evident increase in macrophage infiltration and cardiac fibrosis are also observed after transverse aortic constriction. Therefore, VEGFR-1 gene variants may be involved in CAD. In this study, VEGFR-1 gene promoter was genetically and functionally analyzed in large cohorts of AMI patients and ethnic-matched controls. Results A total of 16 DNA sequence variants (DSVs) including six single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were found in the VEGFR-1 gene promoter and 5′-untranslated region. Five novel DSVs and one SNP were only identified in AMI patients group. A human can infer the magnitude of interaction force solely based on visual information because of prior knowledge in human–robot interaction (HRI). A method of reconstructing tactile information through cross-modal signal processing is proposed in this paper. In our method, visual information is added as an auxiliary source to tactile information. In this case, the receiver is only able to determine the tactile interaction force from the visual information provided. In our method, we first process groups of pictures (GOPs) and treat them as the input. Secondly, we use the low-rank foreground-based attention mechanism (LAM) to detect regions of interest (ROIs). Finally, we propose a linear regression convolutional neural network (LRCNN) to infer contact force in video frames. The experimental results show that our cross-modal reconstruction is indeed feasible. Furthermore, compared to other work, our method is able to reduce the complexity of the network and improve the material identification accuracy.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by hepatic steatosis, insulin resistance, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and oxidative stress. As a group of NAD+-dependent III deacetylases, the sirtuin (SIRT1–7) family plays a very important role in regulating mitochondrial biogenesis and participates in the progress of NAFLD. SIRT family members are distributed in the nucleus, cytoplasm, and mitochondria; regulate hepatic fatty acid oxidation metabolism through different metabolic pathways and mechanisms; and participate in the regulation of mitochondrial energy metabolism. SIRT1 may improve NAFLD by regulating ROS, PGC-1α, SREBP-1c, FoxO1/3, STAT3, and AMPK to restore mitochondrial function and reduce steatosis of the liver. Other SIRT family members also play a role in regulating mitochondrial biogenesis, fatty acid oxidative metabolism, inflammation, and insulin resistance. Therefore, this paper comprehensively introduces the role of SIRT family in regulating mitochondrial biogenesis in the liver in NAFLD, aiming to further explain the importance of SIRT family in regulating mitochondrial function in the occurrence and development of NAFLD, and to provide ideas for the research and development of targeted drugs. Relatively speaking, the role of some SIRT family members in NAFLD is still insufficiently clear, and further research is needed.

Caching popular multimedia content constitutes a promising solution to mitigate the congestion in the ultimate potential for 5G networks. Moreover, a three-tier heterogeneous network, where device-to-device pairs, small cells, and macro base stations (BSs) are included, is suggested in 5G wireless networks. In addition, local caching of popular multimedia content for small-cell base stations (SBSs) and user equipment has been considered to decrease the BS transmission cost without requiring high capacity backhaul or access to the core network. Thus, in this paper, we first analyze the numerous relevant performances in this three-tier content delivery network. For the independent Poisson point process and uniform distribution, where there are two regular different SBS assumption modes, we first provide theoretical analysis of the hitting probability in this heterogeneous network in different user request transmission modes based on a stochastic geometry theory. Then, we further propose a novel resource selection and scheduling algorithm satisfying the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio and signal-to-interference ratio criteria and the optimal transmission link selections and scheduling strategy for the three-tier heterogeneous network in order to reasonably allocate restricted resources. Finally, the numerical results reveal that the theoretical results are in agreement with the simulation results of the Zipf-distribution caching scheme. Meanwhile, the proposed algorithm performs well compared with the theoretical limit and an increase in the state of the art.

Transmitting multiple independent data streams through the same medium can increase the capacity of line-of-sight-based wireless communication systems. One of the promising approaches is to utilize spatial multiplexing with multiple spatially separated transmission/reception pairs, for which inter-channel interference can be declined by employing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) signal processing at the receiving ends. The other approach is to use orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing transmitting multiple data streams, which makes use of the orthogonality among OAM beams to reduce interchannel interference and enable efficient demultiplexing. However, due to the practical limitations, the two methods are hard to maximize their advantages independently. In order to utilize the two merits, this paper proposes an OAM-MIMO communication scheme to employ the potential of both multiplexing methods. Based on the system, we implement the measurement of inter-channel interference and then utilize the optimal modes selection strategy and constant modulus algorithm MIMO equalization to further improve the system performance. Our work indicates that the combination of these two interference mitigation methods can guarantee the communication quality when pursuing high-speed communications. Simulation results are given to corroborate the proposed scheme.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the potential role of hydrogen sulphide (H(2)S) and ATP-sensitive potassium (K(ATP)) channels in chronic stress-induced colonic hypermotility. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were submitted daily to 1 h of water avoidance stress (WAS) or sham WAS (SWAS) for 10 consecutive days. Organ bath recordings, H(2)S production, immunohistochemistry and western blotting were performed on rat colonic samples to investigate the role of endogenous H(2)S in repeated WAS-induced hypermotility. Organ bath recordings and western blotting were used to detect the role of K(ATP) channels in repeated WAS. RESULTS: Repeated WAS increased the number of fecal pellets per hour and the area under the curve of the spontaneous contractions of colonic strips, and decreased the endogenous production of H(2)S and the expression of H(2)S-producing enzymes in the colon devoid of mucosa and submucosa. Inhibitors of H(2)S-producing enzymes increased the contractile activity of colonic strips in the SWAS rats. NaHS concentration-dependently inhibited the spontaneous contractions of the strips and the NaHS IC(50) for the WAS rats was significantly lower than that for the SWAS rats. The inhibitory effect of NaHS was significantly reduced by glybenclamide. Repeated WAS treatment resulted in up-regulation of Kir6.1 and SUR2B of K(ATP) channels in the colon devoid of mucosa and submucosa. CONCLUSION: The colonic hypermotility induced by repeated WAS may be associated with the decreased production of endogenous H(2)S. The increased expression of the subunits of K(ATP) channels in colonic smooth muscle cells may be a defensive response to repeated WAS. H(2)S donor may have potential clinical utility in treating chronic stress-induced colonic hypermotility.
