Gastric cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignant tumor and ranks as the second leading cause of death among cancer patients worldwide. Due to its hidden nature and difficulty in detection, GC has a high incidence and poor prognosis. Traditional treatment methods such as systemic chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgical resection are commonly used, but they often fail to achieve satisfactory curative effects, resulting in a very low 5-year survival rate for GC patients. Currently, targeted therapy and immunotherapy are prominent areas of research both domestically and internationally. These methods hold promise for the treatment of GC. This article focuses on the signaling pathways associated with the development of GC, as well as the recent advancements and applications of targeted therapy and immunotherapy. The aim is to provide fresh insights for the clinical treatment of GC.

FAIR Principles are a set of high-level guidelines for sharing digital resources. The growing global adoption of the FAIR Principles by policymakers, funders, and organizations compels data professionals, projects, and repositories to demonstrate the level of FAIR-compliance (referred to as FAIRness) of their digital data, metadata, and infrastructures. Because the FAIR Principles offer general objectives rather than specific implementation instructions, discrepancies exist due to different interpretations, domain-specific requirements, and intended applications. These discrepancies hinder direct comparisons and integration of assessment outcomes. To address this issue, we propose a novel framework, including a consolidated FAIR vocabulary. This framework establishes quality measures upfront in FAIRness assessment workflows to surpass the intricacies arising from the aforementioned dependencies. The established quality measures encapsulate the distinctive core concepts inherent in individual FAIR principles and can serve as common, fundamental pillars of holistic FAIRness assessment workflows. Building upon this fundamental set of the quality measures, we introduce a FAIRness quality maturity matrix (FAIR-QMM) as a structured, tiered, and progressive approach for evaluating and reporting the degree of FAIR-compliance. The FAIR-QMM can be used as a FAIRness assessment tool independently and/or as a translator between other FAIRness assessment tools or models.

ABSTRACTAutomated metadata annotation is only as good as training dataset, or rules that are available for the domain. It's important to learn what type of data content a pre-trained machine learning algorithm has been trained on to understand its limitations and potential biases. Consider what type of content is readily available to train an algorithm—what's popular and what's available. However, scholarly and historical content is often not available in consumable, homogenized, and interoperable formats at the large volume that is required for machine learning. There are exceptions such as science and medicine, where large, well documented collections are available. This paper presents the current state of automated metadata annotation in cultural heritage and research data, discusses challenges identified from use cases, and proposes solutions.

ABSTRACTThe increased number of data repositories has greatly increased the availability of open data. To enable broad discovery and access to research dataset, some data repositories have begun leveraging the web architecture by embedding structured metadata markup in dataset web landing pages using vocabularies from Schema.org and extensions. This paper aims to examine metadata interoperability for supporting global data discovery. Specifically, the paper reports a survey on which metadata schema has been adopted by participating data repositories, and presents an analysis of crosswalks from fourteen research data schemas to Schema.org. The analysis indicates most descriptive metadata are interoperable among the schemas, the most inconsistent mapping is the rights metadata, and a large gap exists in the structural metadata and controlled vocabularies to specify various property values. The analysis and collated crosswalks can serve as a reference for data repositories when they develop crosswalks from their own schemas to Schema.org, and provide the research data community a benchmark of structured metadata implementation.

WTaNbMo refractory high entropy alloy (RHEA) coatings were prepared by laser cladding assisted with reciprocating dynamic magnetic field on Inconel 718 substrates. The effects of dynamic magnetic field on the microstructure, defects and residual stress were discussed. The results show that the reciprocating magnetic field improves the microstructure homogeneity of the laser cladded WTaNbMo coating. The coatings are composed of WTaNbMo solid solution (BCC) and γ-(Ni, M). With reciprocating magnetic field assistance, the flow in the molten pool is accelerated, porosity is reduced. The residual stress inside the coating is depressed, thereby cracks in the coating are inhibited. The flow behavior in the molten pools was also discussed.

This paper presents an optimal diagnostic observer design scheme to deal with the remote fault detection problem for a local closed-loop system with unknown external disturbances and faults. To utilize limited network shared resources efficiently, an event-triggered generator is employed in the local closed-loop system to determine whether to transmit the current output measurement for fault detection. By constructing the error system that contains event-triggered transmission errors and evaluating the composition of the residual under the constraint of Luenberger conditions, the diagnostic observer which has optional order and flexible structure is designed by the use of factorization techniques to achieve the optimal performance tradeoff between disturbance robustness and fault sensitivity. Next, the inevitable influence of reference input on the residual is taken into account in the residual evaluation to deliver a time-varying threshold. Finally, a vehicle lateral dynamic system is presented to illustrate the validity of the proposed optimal diagnostic observer design scheme.

With the fast-growing demand of aluminum alloys in ships and deep-sea pressure structures, an accurate and efficient underwater cutting operation for aluminum alloy is significant. However, its underwater arc cutting mechanism is still not clear enough, which limits its further application. The challenges lie in poor underwater visibility and complex underwater environment. In this study, process experiments, underwater sensor, and numerical simulations were conducted during cutting process to investigate the cutting mechanism of 5,052 aluminum. Firstly, the effect of parameters were investigated on cutting current, voltage, and water depth on the underwater kerf formation. In addition, three typical kerf formations, including “V” type, “II” type and “∧” type, were found; Secondly, visual sensing system was setup to monitor the cutting arc trajectory and the combustion process during the cutting process. Specially, the underwater burning phenomenon was observed. Finally, Finite Element Analysis was performed to further analyze the underwater arc cutting kerf formation of aluminum alloy. A semi-ellipsoidal composite heat source was applied to simulate the underwater arc, and the aluminum thermal reaction-generated heat was introduced. A dynamic method named “birth and death elements” was utilized to simulate the removal of molten metal. The temperature test results show that the simulation process is feasible. All results showed that different cutting parameters led to different cutting mode and affected the kerf forming. 5,052 aluminum alloy in the deep water environment (≥50 m) kerf significantly narrowed. The kerf cross-section produces an inward concavity and the kerf surface is as wide as the cutting wire. The aluminum kerf forming process is greatly impacted by the process parameters and self-propagating high-temperature synthesis reaction during aluminum alloy cutting. The periodicity of the cutting process was computed by the numerical simulation with the arc motion trajectory monitored by the high-speed camera. The numerical results of temperature distribution and kerf shape were consistent with the experimental data, which revealed the cutting mechanism.

Abstract A limitation of current anticancer nanocarriers is the contradiction between multiple functions and favorable biocompatibility. Thus, we aimed to develop a compatible drug delivery system loaded with paclitaxel (PTX) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) therapy. A basic backbone, PTX-loaded poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) PHBV nanoparticle (PHBV-PTX-NPs), was prepared by emulsion solvent evaporation. As a gatekeeper, the pH-sensitive coating was formed by self-polymerization of dopamine (PDA). The HCC-targeted arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD)-peptide and PDA-coated nanoparticles (NPs) were combined through the Michael addition. Subsequently, the physicochemical properties of RGD-PDA-PHBV-PTX-NPs were characterized by dynamic light scattering-autosizer, transmission electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry and X-ray spectroscopy. As expected, the RGD-PDA-PHBV-PTX-NPs showed robust anticancer efficacy in a xenograft mouse model. More importantly, they exhibited lower toxicity than PTX to normal hepatocytes and mouse in vitro and in vivo, respectively. Taken together, these results indicate that the RGD-PDA-PHBV-PTX-NPs are potentially beneficial for easing conflict between multifunction and biocompatible characters of nanocarriers.

There are many kinds of biological activities of resveratrol itself, but its clinical application is limited by its poor solubility in water and low bioavailability. Therefore, we have prepared glycyrrhizic acid-conjugated human serum albumin nanoparticles wrapping resveratrol nanoparticles (GL-HSA-RESNPs). The purpose of this study was to investigate the bioavailability, pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of resveratrol in rats after single-dose tail vein injection administration of GL-HSA-RESNPs. A sensitive and reliable high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was established to verify the content of resveratrol in rat plasma and organs. This work investigated the preparation of specific targeted drug delivery systems in cancer chemotherapy by folate conjugated human serum albumin nanoparticles encapsulated resveratrol (RES) nanoparticles (FA-HSA-RESNPs). FA was coupled to HSA, and RES was encapsulated in FA-conjugated HSA by high pressure fluid nano-homogeneous emulsification. The average particle size and polydispersity index of NPs prepared under optimal conditions were 102.1 ± 4.9 nm and 0.001. The drug capsulation efficiency and drug loading efficiency were 98.36 and 14.66%, respectively. The analysis of the results of the physical characterization showed that the RES was present in the FA-HSA-RESNPs in an amorphous state. In vitro drug-release study showed that the NPs can release the drug persistently and slowly. The inhibition rate of FA-HSA-RESNPs and RES was detected using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide method to be 110.8 and 157.2 μM, respectively. The targeting ability of the FA-HSA-RESNPs for the HepG2 cell was measured by fluorescein isothiocyanate-modified albumin techniques. The uptake rate of FA-HSA-RESNPs was higher than that of the original RES. By using near-infrared imaging, in vivo activity was labeled with Cy5 fluorescent FA-HSA-RESNP confirmed FA-HSA-RESNP tumor-targeting ability. The intravenous administration bioavailability of FA-HSA-RESNPs was about 5.95-fold higher than that of the original RES.

Knowledge about the quality of data and metadata is important to support informed decisions on the (re)use of individual datasets and is an essential part of the ecosystem that supports open science. Quality assessments reflect the reliability and usability of data. They need to be consistently curated, fully traceable, and adequately documented, as these are crucial for sound decision- and policy-making efforts that rely on data. Quality assessments also need to be consistently represented and readily integrated across systems and tools to allow for improved sharing of information on quality at the dataset level for individual quality attribute or dimension. Although the need for assessing the quality of data and associated information is well recognized, methodologies for an evaluation framework and presentation of resultant quality information to end users may not have been comprehensively addressed within and across disciplines. Global interdisciplinary domain experts have come together to systematically explore needs, challenges and impacts of consistently curating and representing quality information through the entire lifecycle of a dataset. This paper describes the findings of that effort, argues the importance of sharing dataset quality information, calls for community action to develop practical guidelines, and outlines community recommendations for developing such guidelines. Practical guidelines will allow for global access to and harmonization of quality information at the level of individual Earth science datasets, which in turn will support open science.

Luteolin (LUT, 3′,4′,5,7-tetrahydroxyflavon) is a low water-soluble flavonoid with multiple biogicially activities. In this study, high water-soluble LUT nanoparticle was prepared by liquid anti-solvent precipitation and vacuum freeze-dry technology to enhance bioavailability and inhibit liver microsomal peroxidation in rats. When the concentration of LUT in the nanoparticles was 10.7 ± 0.3% (w/w), the size of LUT nanoparticles in water was successfully decreased to 127.5 ± 23.1 nm, and the amorphous state was reached. Meanwhile, the saturated solubility of LUT nanoparticles in deionized water (149.69 ± 12.6 µg) increased by 132.74 times. On the basis of the abovementioned results, LUT nanoparticles achieved excellent results in dissolution rates, lipid oxidation in vitro and bioavailability. Finally, results showed that the small particle size and amorphous state of LUT nanoparticles considerably improved their solubility in the solution medium, thereby enhancing their antioxidant ability and bioavailability.

Process evaluation is widely accepted as an effective strategy to improve product quality and shorten its development cycle. However, there has been very little research on how to evaluate the process plan with the dynamic change of the machining condition and uncertain available manufacturing resources. This paper proposes a novel process evaluation method based on digital twin technology. Three core technologies embodied in the proposed method are illustrated in details: 1) real-time mapping mechanism between the collected data in machining and the process design information; 2) construction of the digital twin-based machining process evaluation (DT-MPPE) framework; and 3) process evaluation driven by digital twin data. To elaborate on how to apply the proposed method to the reality, we present a detailed implementation process of the proposed DT-MPPE method for the key parts of the marine diesel engine. Meanwhile, the future work to completely fulfill digital twin-based smart process planning for complex products is discussed.

7N01-T4 aluminum alloy plates were welded by the metal inert gas (MIG) welding method, with ER5087 and ER5356 welding wires, respectively. The electrochemical corrosion behavior of the weld zones in the two kinds of welded joints using 3.5 wt.% and 5 wt.% NaCl solutions were investigated by polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and laser confocal scanning microscope (LCSM). The results indicated the better corrosion resistance of the weld zone in the ER5356 welded joint than that in the ER5087 welded joint, which was related to the different contents of Mn and Zn elements and the distribution of precipitates for the weld zones in the two kinds of welded joints. Based on the LSCM of the weld zones, the maximum depth (dmax) of corrosion pits for the weld zone in the ER5356 welded joint was lower than that in the ER5087 welded joint when immersed in the same NaCl concentrations. The dmax of the corrosion pit of the weld zone in the ER5356 welded joint using the 5 wt.% NaCl solution was 78.5 ± 0.96 μm, which was much bigger than that using the 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. For the weld zone in the ER5087 welded joint with 5 wt.% NaCl solution, more Cl- was adsorbed onto the active surface of weld zones, which accelerated the corrosion, resulting in the corrosion mechanism from pitting to intergranular corrosion.

7N01-T4 aluminum alloy were welded into three layers by metal inert gas (MIG) welding, with ER5087 welding wire containing Zr and ER5356 welding wire without Zr, respectively. The microstructures and face bend properties of the ER5356 and ER5087 welded joints were investigated. The weld zone (WZ) of the ER5087 welded joint had a smaller grain size than that of the ER5356 welded joint. Two kinds of welded joints were not broken via the face-bend test. However, there were some small holes and microcracks on the surface of the ER5356 welded joint, and there were no obvious defects on the surface of the ER5087 welded joint. The face bending specimen metallography shows that the grains of the cover layer were elongated, and the grains of the bottom layer were extruded. The ER5087 welded joint had a better bending performance than the ER5356 welded joint due to the microstructure refinement of the WZ through adding Zr element in ER5087 welding wire.

A dataset, small or big, is often changed to correct errors, apply new algorithms, or add new data (e.g., as part of a time series), etc. In addition, datasets might be bundled into collections, distributed in different encodings or mirrored onto different platforms. All these differences between versions of datasets need to be understood by researchers who want to cite the exact version of the dataset that was used to underpin their research. Failing to do so reduces the reproducibility of research results. Ambiguous identification of datasets also impacts researchers and data centres who are unable to gain recognition and credit for their contributions to the collection, creation, curation and publication of individual datasets. Although the means to identify datasets using persistent identifiers have been in place for more than a decade, systematic data versioning practices are currently not available. In this work, we analysed 39 use cases and current practices of data versioning across 33 organisations. We noticed that the term ‘version’ was used in a very general sense, extending beyond the more common understanding of ‘version’ to refer primarily to revisions and replacements. Using concepts developed in software versioning and the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) as a conceptual framework, we developed six foundational principles for versioning of datasets: Revision, Release, Granularity, Manifestation, Provenance and Citation. These six principles provide a high-level framework for guiding the consistent practice of data versioning and can also serve as guidance for data centres or data providers when setting up their own data revision and version protocols and procedures.

In order to repair or strengthen stainless steel structural parts, the experiment was conducted by using plasma arc cladding technology to prepare 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS) layers on the surface of Q345 steel. Their macro morphology and microstructure were observed by an optical microscope and the phase composition of microstructure was analyzed by an X-ray diffractometer instrument (XRD). The electrochemical behavior of 2205 DSS cladding layer under different current in 3.5% NaCl etching solution was studied by the potentiodynamic polarization, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). The results showed that when the current was 100 A, the forming of cladding layer was continuous, complete and fine with the dilution ratio of 11.43%. The mass ratio of austenite to ferrite in the microstructure increased with the increase of current and it was up to the optimum of 1.207 with the current of 100 A. Under such conditions, the self-corrosion potential of the cladding layer was up to the maximum while its corrosion current density reached the minimum, thus the corrosion resistance of the cladding layer reached the optimum. It was attributed to the existence of a large amount of Cr3+ and Mo6+ in the passive film of cladding layer, which can stabilize the passive film and promote the formation of Cr2O3 in the passive film.

Cs4PbBr6 crystals have been synthesized by an ultrasonication-assisted trace amount polar solvent method. The prepared green Cs4PbBr6 material was found to have high photoluminescence (PL) brightness and 10 ns PL lifetime. The prepared green light emitting device can achieve the maximum brightness of 3.8 × 109 cd/m2, which is nearly 100 times higher than a wick. The white light emitting device based on Cs4PbBr6 crystals has better performance than commercial products, which can cover 32.3% of the color gamut and achieves 107.3% coverage for International Commission on Illumination (CIE)1931 and 84.8% coverage for CIE1976.

With the development of electronical technology and the construction of the fifth-generation cellular networks, electronic devices with higher integrated level and power are widely applied. Hence, greater demands are being placed on electronic packaging materials. High-Pb solder alloys were widely used for low- and medium-temperature soldering for the past decades but have been prohibited due to toxicity. Au-based solder alloys with proper melting and mechanical properties show great potential to replace high-Pb solder alloys and are being emphasized recently. But in comparison with Pb-containing solder alloys, the investigation on novel Au-based solder alloys is quite insufficient, and their performance and reliability are still unclear. In this paper, the recent research studies on Au-based solder alloys with low temperature and medium temperature were reviewed and their microstructure, mechanical performance, and reliability were introduced and analyzed. Moreover, the novel processing technologies of Au-based solder alloys were discussed and compared.

Diamond tools were prepared by sintering Fe-Cu-Sn-Zn-Ni pre-alloyed powders and diamonds. The effects of Ni contents in pre-alloyed powders on microstructure evolution of Fe-based matrix, the properties of Fe-based matrix and the service life of diamond tools were investigated. The results showed that adding 3~15 wt.% Ni into the Fe-Cu-Sn-Zn pre-alloyed powders refined the microstructure of the Fe-based matrix and improved its density and hardness gradually. The addition of Ni reduced the loss of low melting liquid phase at a low sintered temperature, thus resulting in a decrease of the pores, an increase of the density and hardness of Fe-based matrix. When the Ni content is less than 9 wt.%, the bending strength of Fe-based matrix and diamond tools, together with the holding force of Fe-based matrix to diamonds increases sharply. They reached up to the optimal value with the Ni content of 9 wt.%. At this sintering powder ratio, the sufficient Fe-Cu-Sn-Zn-Ni liquid phase had a good wettability on the surface of diamonds, thus the optimal performance of sintered matrix and diamond tools was obtained. The service life of diamond tools was prolonged greatly owing to the excellent bonding capacity between matrix and diamonds. Once the Ni content exceeded 9 wt.%, the corresponding value decreased gradually. The fracture morphologies of the matrix changed from the brittle fracture into brittle-ductile fracture, then ductile fracture (with the Ni content of 9 wt.%), brittle-ductile mixed fracture and brittle fracture.

A biological pretreatment of Eucommia ulmoides leaf biomass was carried out. Above all, the total flavonoids were isolated from Eucommia ulmoides leaves by the treatment of alkaline solution of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate combined with ultrasonic microwave. The extraction parameters were optimized by central composite design (CCD) software and were displayed as follows: surfactant concentration of 1.5%, microwave power of 700 W, extraction time of 30 min, and liquid–solid ratio of 50 mL/g. The actual yield of total flavonoids was 1.45%. The results of Sudan III color development showed that the cuticle of Eucommia ulmoides leaves was completely removed after dilute alkali pretreatment. Then, Eucommia ulmoides leaves were fermented by Trichoderma viride to remove the holocellulose and obtain gutta-percha. The content of cellulose and hemicellulose in Eucommia ulmoides leaves obviously decreased after Trichoderma viride fermentation. The optimum parameters were listed as follows: solid–liquid ratio of 0.06 g/mL, four extraction times, extraction time of 89.72 min, and extraction temperature of 85 °C. The actual yield of gutta-percha was 4.38%. The amount of extraction solvent per unit weight of gutta-percha from untreated Eucommia ulmoides leaves was 2.91 mL/mg, while that from leaves treated by Trichoderma viride was only 0.96 mL/mg. The amount of extraction solvent was grossly reduced, which is beneficial in terms of environmental protection. The characterizations of gutta-percha were verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). This study laid a certain theoretical and experimental basis for the multi-stage extraction of Eucommia ulmoides leaves and the utilization of Eucommia ulmoides resources.

The present work aimed to apply the liquid antisolvent precipitation (LAP) method for preparing the apigenin nanoparticles and thereby improving the solubility and bioavailability of apigenin. The different experimental parameters on particle size were optimized through central composite design (CCD) using the Design-Expert® software. Under the optimum conditions, the particle size of the apigenin nanosuspension was about 159.2 nm. In order to get apigenin nanoparticles, the freeze-drying method was selected and the mannitol was used as a cryoprotectant. Then the solid state properties of the apigenin nanoparticles were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermo gravimetric (TG), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results obtained displayed that the apigenin nanoparticles exhibited near-spherical shape and could be transformed into an amorphous form. In addition, the dissolving test, the bioavailability in rats, and the antitumor activity were also studied. The experimental results showed that the solubility of the apigenin nanoparticles were about 29.61 times and 64.81 times of raw apigenin in artificial gastric juice and in artificial intestinal juice, respectively, and the apigenin nanoparticles showed higher dissolution rates compared to raw apigenin, and was about 6.08 times and 6.14 times than that of raw apigenin in artificial gastric juice and in artificial intestinal juice. The oral bioavailability of apigenin nanoparticles was about 4.96 times higher than that of the raw apigenin, but the apigenin nanoparticles had no toxic effect on the organs of rats. In addition, the apigenin nanoparticles had a higher inhibition to HepG2 cells by lower IC50 than that of raw apigenin.

As data repositories make more data openly available it becomes challenging for researchers to find what they need either from a repository or through web search engines. This study attempts to investigate data users’ requirements and the role that data repositories can play in supporting data discoverability by meeting those requirements. We collected 79 data discovery use cases (or data search scenarios), from which we derived nine functional requirements for data repositories through qualitative analysis. We then applied usability heuristic evaluation and expert review methods to identify best practices that data repositories can implement to meet each functional requirement. We propose the following ten recommendations for data repository operators to consider for improving data discoverability and user’s data search experience: 1. Provide a range of query interfaces to accommodate various data search behaviours. 2. Provide multiple access points to find data. 3. Make it easier for researchers to judge relevance, accessibility and reusability of a data collection from a search summary. 4. Make individual metadata records readable and analysable. 5. Enable sharing and downloading of bibliographic references. 6. Expose data usage statistics. 7. Strive for consistency with other repositories. 8. Identify and aggregate metadata records that describe the same data object. 9. Make metadata records easily indexed and searchable by major web search engines. 10. Follow API search standards and community adopted vocabularies for interoperability.

The Australian National Data Service (ANDS) has been funded by the Australian Government since 2009, with a goal to increase the value of data to researchers, research institutions and the nation. To achieve this goal, ANDS has funded more than 200 projects under seven programs. This paper provides an overview of one of these programs, the Applications Program, which focused on funding software infrastructure to enable data reuse to demonstrate the value of making data available to researchers. The paper also presents some representative projects, a summary of what the program has achieved, and lessons learned. Â

This article introduces the provenance activities that are being carried out at the Australia National Data Services (ANDS). Since its beginning, ANDS has been promoting four data transformations so that Australia’s research data become more valuable and reusable by researchers. Among many other activities that enable the four transformations, ANDS has been encouraging ANDS partners to capture and describe rich context at the time when a data collection is created. In 2015, ANDS funded a number of external projects that had provenance components. In addition, ANDS is working on the interoperability between the schema that is used by the ANDS research data registration and discovery service – Research Data Australia (RDA) – and the W3C recommended provenance standard, Provenance Ontology (PROV-O), and investigating how to enrich the schema to access provenance information. The article concludes by discussing the lessons we learnt and our future planned activity.
